@@ron4tron sure, but that's not the case even here. Even with a horrible matchup against cottonee, you can hope in a crit, or in an additional effect triggering. Bad matchup are gonna happen and that goes for any game, you either play the meta or are at a disadvantage (or, if you play smogon, have enough people crying about it until they vote to ban the meta)
One thing I'm a little curious about is how, typically as you've talked about here and in other videos, if the entire metagame revolves around one incredibly overpowered pokemon, it is usually banned. But there's been examples of incredibly powerful pokemon who the meta is almost entirely shaped around, like gen 2 Snorlax that weren't banned, I'd be interested in a video explaining why Snorlax, for example, wasn't banned despite completely dominating the OU tier

Ah, I remember 1v1 whimsicott and cottonee. I also remember that in showdown, people would set the level to 1, and give it a focus sash. Leech seed would fully heal it each turn, and it just kept spamming subs

I love how lore-wise Black Kyurem is supposed to be this insanely powerful creature being the merging of 2 almost godlike Dragons, but gameplay-wise it has historically always been very underwhelming until very recently

I think it's more accurate to say that "grass has a lot of weaknesses" than it is to say that it's a terrible defensive type. For all of its downsides, resistance to Scald and EQ will always be a top tier trait.
I see people coming up with counters here, and yeah they exist but the whole point of 1v1 is to bring 3 pick 1, your Whimsicott answer could just as easily lose to the other 2 mons they brought and if steam didn’t have a Whimsicott answer then Whimsicott just got free wins

tbh i never liked the whole thing of dark types being completely immune to prankster, it should just put the moves a priority bracket of +0, otherwise it's like a soft taunt/disable which to me is broken
It's because priority status moves are kind of broken without such a mechanic. The fact that they have a chance to fail gives the one side a way to punish the strategy, making it risk-reward instead of purely rewarding

Not necessarily 1v1, but my favorite set was level 2 Whimsicott back in gen 6. Same concept, but using sash and endeavor additionally. Even switch outs aren't safe answers
In gen 7 I used a jumpluff with a similar strategy. Without it's reliance on prankster, as well as access to sleep powder could take on even more than Whimsicott
Hmm. I recognise this. Back ca. Gen 5, I had some fun running lvl1 teams. Cottonee was one of the strats back then. LVL 1 + Focus Sash + Leech Seed + Substitute. The last two move slots were just any move to help you stall or set up for the next level one. Of course there were ways to stop it, but it was fun to roll into matches with a bunch of small things to fight legendaries.
I forgot why, but similarly I found a niche in using level 2 Whimsicott, I don't remember why but it was probably an evolutionary move but same idea. This line has one of the most threatening fears due to prankster

I coincidentally created this exact set for whimsicott in 1v1 gen 8. I just put some moves on her that I thought would be really annoying to deal with and it worked so well!

hey Freezai I was wondering something, I noticed that Vulpix was banned from Littlecup a while ago, I was never around back then to see why, and I now see it un Bellow PU tier on showdown, but I noticed Alolan Vulpix isn't banned?? what is so different between the 2 to where sun and fire is ban worthy but hail and blizzard isn't?? or was there another reason?
Because hail is pretty bad, it only benefits special attacking ice types with blizzard (move that only becomes slightly less risky), aurora veil and pokemon with slush rush. While sun boosts EVERY SINGLE fire move by 50% and makes solar beam turn 1, so fires types get a way to destroy water, ground and rock types that would normally counter them. It even gives a buff to grass types because of solar beam, solar power an chlorophyll

It's the ability rather than the bulk. Basically Prankster (the ability) gives priority to status moves, so unless you were faster (even when using priority moves) you couldn't set up in front of it or punch it first.
Cottonee evolves into Lilligant! It's super effective! Seriously though, I am glad that my favorite pre-evolution dominated a tier. Ah. Such were the times. Edit: Imagine doing a nuzlocke with only one Cottonee.

You should do a vid about Smeargle in 1v1. You use imprison and then transform to make your opponent unable to do anything.
Mew can do the same. Imprison, transform, any trapping move and recover/taunt/whatever you like, this set is so good against stall it's hilarious.
