i don't think i realized that 85 hp, 70 Def, 75 sDef was considered "incredibly frail" with regard to porygon z never played competitively, but find it interesting anyways
So power creep has gotten so insane in current generations, even 100 defenses / 90 HP pokemon aren't really considered "bulky". Good example is Galarian Slowbro. Also, in the past even 70 def pokemon with full defensive investment can still survive hits and be considered good checks (if they have recovery). A good example is gen 4 breloom which had amazing recovery.
if it were lets say fairy or steel type it could be really strong. But having no resistances, due to being normal, with those average stats means its frail
Minccino gets skill link+ technician+ stab tail slap. Pretty good coverage too, in triple axel, bullet seed, and rock blast. Also gets a pretty solid move pool apart from that too. Kleavor gets sharpness+ sheer force +stab on stone edge. Stone edge being a hundred base power, coming off of a 135 attack stat. Pelipper gets drizzle+ rain dish, and A. Ninetails gets snow cloak+ snow warning.
Haha, this is pretty cool idea. I thought of Gyrados as soon as I saw the video title, and then Freezai mentioned it within the first minute. Very interesting way for some older mons to catch up to modern power creep.
I thought of Scrafty as like a poor man's Gyarados. You are so scared of fairies but fighting is a good offensive type, dark is immune to prankster, and you also get shed skin so you don't have to worry as much about status. Also I really like Scrafty
So every turn you get +4 in one stat and -2 in another. It could get some insane high-rolls, but also having the potential for a boost on the wrong attack stat and cutting one of your defenses or speed in half turn 1 means it’s even more chaotically random than normal moody. 🤔
Alolan Ninetales could be interesting. Snow cloak and snow warning with aurora veil, blizzard, nasty plot, and draining kiss or moonblast could be terrifying.
It was always nice that in mystery dungeon, every pokemon could have 2 abilities. Psyduck having water type to walk on water, plus being immune to weather effects and explosiobs made it incredible in rescue team. The time this is bad though was Riolu being immune to cringe/flinch and getting a boost from being flinched/cringing.
Your breakdowns of all things pokemon - individual matches (singles doubles or otherwise), metagames, mechanics, is just some of the best ive heard Love all your content
If you were to cover Shared Power, that would be phenomenal, in shared power your Pokémon's abilities are shared with the rest of your team, allowing you to have six abilities, it's a similar concept to pokebilites but the meta itself is VERY different, with plenty of extremely powerful pokemon you wouldn't expect to be good, like iron crown, pinchurchin and indeedee. I tried to make a video on it myself, but with my lack of experience and equipment I don't think I did the tier justice
6:33, it's important to note that Supreme Overlord doesn't boost the attack stat. Its boosts the move itself, same way that burn halves the damage from moves not the attack stat itself.
Yeah I immediately thought that too. The best thing from that game is riolu/lucario having steadfast and inner focus which cancel each other out completely lol. There’s also the bronzor line that have no 2x weakness in that game too.
Pokébilities Doubles would probably make Hisuian Arcanine the best Intimidator since it threatens Incin with recoilless Head Smash and a Flare Blitz swap with Flash Fire, which it can then throw into Incin's allies with no recoil.
Lanturn would be a funny pivot in this ruleset. It has both Volt Absorb and Water Absorb, so it'll heal for 25% of its health if you switch into a Water or Electric type move. Zebstrika would also make a decent pivot, as it has Lightning Rod + Motor Drive + Sap Sipper. I know Articuno has been rather obnoxious somewhat lately due to a Snow Cloak evasion set with the reworked "Hail", so I imagine it'd be even more obnoxious with Pressure. I see Dugtrio potentially being scary on a sandstorm team. It has Sand Veil and Sand Force to boost evasion and damage, along with Arena Trap. Golurk would throw out some nasty Dynamic Punches, as it has Iron Fist and No Guard. Unfortunately it also has Klutz and no real way to use it (outside of Fling I guess?). I don't quite know if it would work, but Klinklang does have access to both Plus AND Minus. It would be funny if it applied both of those boosts to itself, simply doubling its Special Attack for essentially free.
I'm shocked Kingambit isn't utterly broken with two of the best offensive abilities in the game on it at once. Intimidate must not be common in this meta
Imagining this in Gen 6 Doubles. Mega Evos would be kept more in check because they can only have one ability. Ttar Excadrill would be in a much higher tier. Porygon2 would be much more offensive and even exceed Cresselia in usage.
I appreciate this video! I've heard about Pokebilities more than once and it always seemed interesting but not interesting enough for me to look into. This video is exactly for what I was hoping for!
PokeRogue actually does this! It gives all Pokemon an extra ability they don't get in the main series that you can unlock. The first one I unlocked was Moxie on Flamgio, and it CLEANS
As an avid PMU player, what happens is that Azumarill becomes amazing. Grass immunity along with further Fire and Ice resistances while still having Huge Power. You better have an electric or poison type around.
8:00 Honestly, singles is such a foreign world to me already, this format just makes it worse. Ah yes, top meta threats like Great Tusk and *Clodsire*.
It's not that difficult to believe Clodsire is already a great special wall with great ability options in Unaware, Water Absorb and Poison Point This meta allows you to use all those abilities at once, so naturally it's going to be very good.
A pokemon that wasn’t mentioned is Cinccino. Even tho cute charm is ass, Skill Link and Technician would tear a hole on a lot of teams considering it learns bullet seed, rock blast, tail slap, and triple axle. Tidy up is also there for a dragon dance and item removal. In terms of an item, you have the option of choice items and life orb
I wanna make a case for Flygon. Because it would've been stupid for a winged creature with the word FLY in its name to not be airborne, Trapinch loses all 3 of its abilities for Levitate upon evolution, but that never really sat right with me so I'd like to propose some tweaks for Flygon's case: Levitate, Sand Stream and Compound Eyes (these are picks based on its physical characteristics over meta)
This reminds me of Pokébilities AAA, a mashup meta where you can use all the normal abilities and an extra one. I made a Hustle Machamp who combined No Guard, Guts, and Hustle to make an insane Dynamic Punch that was effectively 225 Base power, couldn't Miss, and always confused the target. It also ran Stone Edge, which couldn't miss either, and Knock off for coverage, with a final Facade for Fairy types. There was also the popular Talonflame, who could use Magic Guard to avoid using boots, take no damage from the Life Orb, and not lose Gale Wings when using Brave Bird. It was also immune to poisoning and all the other stuff magic guard does. Give it Swords Dance, Flare Blitz, and Roost, and you have a sweeper with a base 120 priority move.
No need to imagine the Pokemon Hack Elite Redux already gives the pokemon 4 abilities the main ability and 3 passives. but you have to choose between three abilities for the main. It also added a bunch of other abilities, an example is that it combined all of the sun abilities into one ability so it's like having a pokemon with 8 abilities.
When I first learned about secondary abilities, I thought they worked like this, where a pokemon would always have its base ability and then occasionally would have it's secondary ability on top of that
i know i'm incredibly late, but if you're willing to rock a rom hack emerald exceeded is 100% your 'guy' - mons gain them as they go and can have up to 4 between their 'main' ability and three extras as they go. if you're more interested in competitive/kaizo-y stuff, elite redux will give you all of them off the jump with a huge host of other forms, moves, and stuff like that
I thought of this agessss ago, and one of the most fun Pokemon I came across when diving into the idea was Heliolisk, it'd make a really interesting 'mon to go into a weather team. Sand Veil to boost evasion in sandstorms, Dry Skin to heal in the rain, and Dry Skin and Solar Powered boosts special attack in the sun but also damages it over time
Okay but to be fair, if Hidden Abilities are accessible it should be made so that Pokemon can only have 2 abilities and the Hidden Ability replaces one of them
Before I clicked on this video I thought it was every ability in all of Pokemon on the same one so my first thought was “oh god everyone’s gonna have truant and defeatist”
I was zoning out and saw the title, and thought there was only going to be pokemon that had ALL the abilities and it was going to be some math stuff about who is the most powerful pokemon then
Theres actually an Emerald hack with this feature called Elite Redux. The hack also adds abilities based on Pokedex entries, like most Pokemons that stated they prey on other Pokemons gets an ability that recover their HP upon K.O.
It would be so ironic if you play the mode that is specifically made to have multiple abilities and somone just says *"NO"* and brings neutralizing gas
Imagine Charizard having: drought, tough claws, blaze, & solar power. Have dragon dance on it holding heavy-duty boots. Lando now gets sheer force, sand force, & intimidate
Curious how Bronzong does in this mode. While having 2 of it's 4 weakness removed sounds useful on paper, having both means opponents will no longer have to guess *which* it has and just know from the start to not use either type of attack.
I think this is exactly how abilities work in the Mystery Dungeon games (at least in Sky and Darkness, I'm not sure if it carried over to the others) so Luxray can have both Rivalry and Intimidate.
Kingambit unlocks his true potential. My shogun is out there raising attack through "no u" drops and from losing teammates. Imagine if he kept inner focus from his previous evolutions instead of pressure.

Garganacl is also very good, he cannot be OHKO, he cannot be statued, and his stats will not get lowered
...Mold Breaker, anyone? In all seriousness, it's a stronger Gholdengo
Yeah this is the reason I need that Tink to be a Ton.
@@ArgiemithiusAbility Shield negates
@@-libertyprimev1-902 does it? I thought the Ability Shield negates any changes to the wielder's ability from moves or other abilities, like Worry Seed, Skill Swap, or Neutralizing Gas; whereas Mold Breaker ignores the effect of abilities allowing for, let's say, a fire type move hitting and dealing damage to a Flash Fire mon; or for any non super effective move hitting Shedinja. You getting my point? Ability Shield would not help
@@Argiemithius no it does counter Mold Breaker, as per your example Flash Fire Heatran holding an Ability Shield cannot be hit by Mold Breaker FlameMask-Ogrepon's Ivy Cudgel.
i don't think i realized that 85 hp, 70 Def, 75 sDef was considered "incredibly frail" with regard to porygon z
never played competitively, but find it interesting anyways
for a pokemon with a better defensive type its ok enough with good ev investment, but for a normal type wallbreaker its pretty bad
@@KaijuGal-rb9ek Exactly yeah. Type coverages matter a lot more. Hence Klefki being a great defensive pokemon inspite of having horrible stats.
if it were lets say fairy or steel type it could be really strong. But having no resistances, due to being normal, with those average stats means its frail
Lucario has 70/70/70 defenses.
When I was a kid I thought hidden abilities worked like this lol
Sand force+sheer force landorus incarnate
(Shudder)
Could be fun to have an hold item activating all abilities for a pokemon. Would be a worthy sacrifice.
That's a 187.5 bp plus stab
Pelipper sounds like the smallest threat there. :D
So basically everyone is Calyrex
Haha, this is pretty cool idea.
I thought of Gyrados as soon as I saw the video title, and then Freezai mentioned it within the first minute.
Very interesting way for some older mons to catch up to modern power creep.
I thought of Scrafty as like a poor man's Gyarados. You are so scared of fairies but fighting is a good offensive type, dark is immune to prankster, and you also get shed skin so you don't have to worry as much about status. Also I really like Scrafty
ah, I see my Heatran being frozen by Ice Beam made it into the video
I find it funny that your opponent was named Freezai too
What about Bibarel? Simple, Unaware AND Moody. (Simple AND Moody).
So every turn you get +4 in one stat and -2 in another. It could get some insane high-rolls, but also having the potential for a boost on the wrong attack stat and cutting one of your defenses or speed in half turn 1 means it’s even more chaotically random than normal moody. 🤔
Yeah you ignore their +6ATK. But they also ignore your +6ATK because of Unaware.
That's an o7
@@chrayez that should be a real ability called "bipolar", it would just be funny and have it be on like cosmog or something like that for extra memes
Unaware only ignores the opponent's stat changes, so Bibarel's stats would still matter
@@andyhuynh2625 unaware doesnt ignore your own stats
Alolan Ninetales could be interesting. Snow cloak and snow warning with aurora veil, blizzard, nasty plot, and draining kiss or moonblast could be terrifying.
It was always nice that in mystery dungeon, every pokemon could have 2 abilities.
Psyduck having water type to walk on water, plus being immune to weather effects and explosiobs made it incredible in rescue team.
The time this is bad though was Riolu being immune to cringe/flinch and getting a boost from being flinched/cringing.
Mystery dungeon made the oddest Pokémon shine.
Especially all that had multiple hit attacks.
Beedrill was absolutely disgusting.
Your breakdowns of all things pokemon - individual matches (singles doubles or otherwise), metagames, mechanics, is just some of the best ive heard
Love all your content
If you were to cover Shared Power, that would be phenomenal, in shared power your Pokémon's abilities are shared with the rest of your team, allowing you to have six abilities, it's a similar concept to pokebilites but the meta itself is VERY different, with plenty of extremely powerful pokemon you wouldn't expect to be good, like iron crown, pinchurchin and indeedee. I tried to make a video on it myself, but with my lack of experience and equipment I don't think I did the tier justice
Oh dear god. I remember when contrary used to be legal in that OM. Serp victini cores were everywhere
How does Protosynthesis work there? Could you have 1 Driver then 5 Paradox Pokemon giving it Super-Omni Boost?
@@-libertyprimev1-902 You cant have multiple of the same ability, and protosynthesis is restricted
6:33, it's important to note that Supreme Overlord doesn't boost the attack stat. Its boosts the move itself, same way that burn halves the damage from moves not the attack stat itself.
I was dreaming of a metagame like this for months now, i am so happy someone decided to create it, and thank you for covering it
That concept is just like Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
Yeah I immediately thought that too. The best thing from that game is riolu/lucario having steadfast and inner focus which cancel each other out completely lol. There’s also the bronzor line that have no 2x weakness in that game too.
@@jadetboi i was about to say ghost and dark but remembered gen 5- steel resists those
I wanna see one where they can use any move they can learn
the national dex tier is just that id highly recommend it it’s so fun
@@Devshujin I think they meant they had access to their entire movepool at once
Mew: 🗿
what
@@DevshujinThat is not what they mean. 🤦
I like how every time that something fundamental in Pokemon is changed in any gimmick idea, makes porygon-Z or Excadrill really good or really bad
I expected this to be a “what if pokemon had EVERY ability” video and now i need that
as an om player it’s so cool to see ppl with more motion cover our little land
I love seeing videos exploring niche formats like this. Keep it up!
Pokébilities Doubles would probably make Hisuian Arcanine the best Intimidator since it threatens Incin with recoilless Head Smash and a Flare Blitz swap with Flash Fire, which it can then throw into Incin's allies with no recoil.
2:58 don't forget x1.3 recoiless life orb if you manage to get tspikes on your own field...
god ice beam blissey was so silly here
Lanturn would be a funny pivot in this ruleset.
Wait a sec… tera water zebstrika can’t be hit supereffectively unless there’s mold breaker involved.
I'm shocked Kingambit isn't utterly broken with two of the best offensive abilities in the game on it at once. Intimidate must not be common in this meta
The Porygon line is broken in like half the extra game modes on showdown
Protean Torrent Ash-Greninja at 20%HP in Gen 7: "This Z-Move boosted Hydro Pumps about to be the ultimate nuke Lil bro."
Imagine Kecleon in this format. Bro would be changing types every second.
Imagining this in Gen 6 Doubles. Mega Evos would be kept more in check because they can only have one ability. Ttar Excadrill would be in a much higher tier. Porygon2 would be much more offensive and even exceed Cresselia in usage.
This was a really cool video. Hope Freezai makes more like it
I appreciate this video!
This is (or at least was) how Pokemon Mystery Dungeon works in terms of abilities, and it was great.
8:00 Honestly, singles is such a foreign world to me already, this format just makes it worse. Ah yes, top meta threats like Great Tusk and *Clodsire*.
It's not that difficult to believe
Clodsire is already a great special wall with great ability options in Unaware, Water Absorb and Poison Point
This meta allows you to use all those abilities at once, so naturally it's going to be very good.
Y'all are sleeping on Guts + No Guard + Flame Orb + Dynamic Punch Machamp.
I love that Great Tusk is so good that it doesn’t need the boost of this format to be good in this
I wanna make a case for Flygon.
Cinccino gets Technician + Skill Link (and Cute Charm) while having held item freedom.
When I first learned about secondary abilities, I thought they worked like this, where a pokemon would always have its base ability and then occasionally would have it's secondary ability on top of that
I'm imagining a Pokemon game where the mons unlock abilities as they level up.
i know i'm incredibly late, but if you're willing to rock a rom hack emerald exceeded is 100% your 'guy' - mons gain them as they go and can have up to 4 between their 'main' ability and three extras as they go. if you're more interested in competitive/kaizo-y stuff, elite redux will give you all of them off the jump with a huge host of other forms, moves, and stuff like that
There's already a poke rom with that feature of having 4 abilities at once
This was cool to learn about. Its interesting peeking into the leas known game types.
How does trace work in this? Do they now have their other abilities plus all three of the opponents abilities?!
There was a meta called Shared Power in Gen 8 where each Pokémon's ability affects the whole team, but it didn't work properly.
Off topic but does anyone know the BGM when he's talking abt the Pokemon that got significantly better in this format? From 9:40 onwards
Dragalge with both Poison Touch and Poison Point. No matter what, someone is getting poisoned
I really enjoy these format analysis videos, they’re super entertaining
We've had this in mystery dungeon. Lucario had steadfast and inner focus which made steadfast impossible to activate
*someone tries to make it flinch with a dark type move*
Lucario: not only did that not work, but you just boosted me twice
Sand Rush Sand Force Mold Breaker Excadrill sounds terrifying
Garchomp in a sandstorm with an evasion boost, damage boost, and it damages others when hit by a contact move.
They should introduce the move "Ability Switch." It has 1 PP and allows the pokémon to switch abilities mid match but excludes hidden abilities.
Ironic that two of the banned pokemon in this format are from the most recent game without abilities: PLA
It would be so ironic if you play the mode that is specifically made to have multiple abilities and somone just says *"NO"* and brings neutralizing gas
If you run a Pokemon with one ability in pokebilities... Consider yourself an opp
Anyone know the theme that’s starts at 6:18 ?
fortnite skibidi
In the pokemon mystery dungeon series, every pokemon has their primary and secundary ability at the sale time
Imagine Charizard having: drought, tough claws, blaze, & solar power. Have dragon dance on it holding heavy-duty boots. Lando now gets sheer force, sand force, & intimidate
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Pokemon Elite redux is a hackrom of pokemon emerald and it bring 3 extra abilities to pokemons.
Kingambit unlocks his true potential. My shogun is out there raising attack through "no u" drops and from losing teammates.
Imagine if he kept inner focus from his previous evolutions instead of pressure.
