    Ingredients:
    1 onion
1 long green chili pepper (also called finger chili)
    2-3 pieces garlic
    small piece ginger
    400ml canned chickpeas (mayo recipe • Pink Pickled Ginger | ... )
    4 cardamom pods
1 1/2 tsp coriander seeds (or ground)
    1 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
    1/2 tsp smoked paprika
    1/2 tsp turmeric
    2 tsp garam masala
    generous pinch of salt
2 tbsp chili oil ( • Most addictive Red Chi... )
    1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
    2 cups strained tomatoes
    100g spinach
    2-3 tbsp coconut cream
    few sprigs cilantro
    Directions:
    1. Finely chop the onion and long green chili pepper. Grate the garlic and ginger
    2. Rinse the canned chickpeas with some water and set it aside. Prepare the spices by removing the cardamom pod shells to extract the seeds and grinding the whole coriander seeds. Then, add the sweet paprika, smoked paprika, turmeric, garam masala, salt, and set aside
    3. Heat up a sauté pan to medium heat. Add the chili oil followed by the cumin seeds. Fry for a few seconds
    4. Add the onions and green chili peppers. Sauté for 3-4min. Add the garlic and ginger. Sauté for 2-3min
    5. Add in the spices and sauté for about a minute. Add the chickpeas and strained tomatoes. Give the pan a good stir
    6. When the gravy starts to bubble, add in the spinach. Cover and cook on medium low for 15min
    7. Add about 2 tbsp of coconut cream and stir
    8. Plate and garnish with fresh cilantro and a drizzle more coconut cream

Wowzers! One of my cello students told me about your channel. Who knew that I could ever enjoy eating meals prepared at home by me (not a great cook) AND on a budget!?! Your presentation and atmosphere is so alluring and the flavors are so balanced. And you guide the viewer/listener through the recipe in a patient and encouraging way. I have also prepared and savored the garlic turmeric rice (twice) and Red Lentil Curry. Fantastic! Cooking with confidence in Kentucky. YAY!

I will try this recipe 😋.. I buy the dried chickpeas now as so much cheaper. Soak and cook and freeze (in two cup portion sizes) so they are always to hand for such recipes. I'm going to add kale instead of spinach as it's in abundance on the island I live on. Can't wait to cook this. Thank you Will. Loving your channel.💕

What a great tip! We burn through a lot of chick peas in our house and it’s out of pure exhaustion that I don’t make from dried each time. I’ll try your method as it will save a lot of time, expense and my chick pea footprint will be minimal!
I also just learned that the key to non-gassy chickpeas (from dried) is soaking them for 8-12 hrs beforehand and rinsing and adding a fresh batch of water every 3 hrs. I’m stoked, thank you!

    • @denisehumphreys677
      @denisehumphreys677 Рік тому +3

@TonySopranoswife you're very welcome... another tip I have, once you have soaked them for the required time, I cook mine on high in the slow cooker for 4 to 5 hours ... its better on high so they don't overcook and get mushy. But just keep testing them. But cooking them in the slow cooker means not boiling them on the stovetop for ages. I hate all that steam when cooking things on the stove.
I really recommend the slow cooker method
I use it for all my beans and pulses. So.much better 💕👍

Fantastic dish! I love the red lentil curry recipe you have on your channel as well (I add spinach and potato to it to make it even heartier and stretch the portions out a little bit). Eating plant-based dishes (especially those with lots of beans for the main source of protein) is such a great way to save money on your food budget without sacrificing flavor and interest!

Chana masala is an Indian dish …infact all the pakistani food is copied from india, afghanistan and iran…pakistan doesn’t have much of diversity in food ..
Sorry if this offends you but there are many people walking on this earth who are ancient than pakistan
So calling chana masala as an pakistani dish is undermining work of our Indian ancestors and culture who created these wonderful dishes over time interval thousands of years

Nice touch there with the coconut cream there towards the end!. Whole spices, in this case Cumin seeds are always to be added in hot oil. The cumin seed should almost pop when you add it to oil that's how they lend test to the fat. Adding them to cold oil is as good as not adding it. The cumin powder added will give the smoky taste, the seeds in hot oil add a different layer of taste.

Hi Will, this morning I made this Chana dish. It is absolutely delicious. The blend of spices is spot on... 👌 I had a small carrot and a few green beans in my fridge which I finely chopped and added with the chickpeas. It's a great dish to use up some veggies you might have .... very versatile and still keeps it healthy. I'm going to attempt some yeast free naan breads next so wish me luck with that. But will be delicious with the Chana.

You’ve done it again, it’s amazing, thanks!! With the first bite I thought oh, this is bland and then I realized after chowing down a bit that I was addicted it was so moreish! I don’t know how you do it, but you sure have the magic, sir. 🙏
BTW, I used kale and soaked chickpeas.
