Gentle movement in the morning can be incredibly effective in decreasing knee tightness and heaviness, especially if you have knee osteoarthritis. Morning stiffness can be one of the most common symptoms of osteoarthritis but the good news is, you can do something about it!
In this video you'll learn from Dr. Alyssa Kuhn, physical therapist and osteoarthritis specialist as she shows you 3 simple exercises you can do in the morning before getting out of bed to help to set your knees up for success throughout the day.
These exercises include heel slides while lying down, heel slides + lateral slide in a seated position and knee kicks in a seated position. The key is making sure these exercises don't increase knee pain.
Consistently sticking with the exercises is key. Starting with completing every day or every other day can be a great place to start for most.

Hi I find your videos are very helpful .Is there anything that can be done for knee pain in bed apart from taking more pain killers ? This wakes me up constantly.

Thank you, Dr Alyssa. Just started this, after not receiving the agreed exercises to do at home, from my physical therapy assistant (or MSK assistant, as we call them in the UK). These are a great introduction to at home exercises to up my mobility, with worsening arthritis in both knees, feelings of burning fire in my lower legs, and arthritic pain in my back and hips, as it is real hell ascending and descending the multiple sets of stairs on my home and my dad's. Bless you for what you do for us ❤

Thanks for this. I also suffer even more after I've been driving a car for a few hours. It's very difficult and painful to walk. Do you have any suggestions for that? By the way, I really do enjoy your videos.
I get the same thing! It's maddening! We just need to stop & stretch our legs every couple hours from what I have read. Doing so is a pain in the Ass when traveling and you're settled in going down the highway, LOL. Oh well, better than a knee replacement!

I have severe pain bilat knee osteoarthritis (very long story)
Many of ur vids r great start points because of the unbalanced atrophied limping stiffness of my legs .

My keens crack when I walk.
While climbing steps it cracks even more with mild pain.

Thanks a lot for your helpful videos. A year ago my both knees had replacement surgery. After few months of surgery my knees and back of upper thigh started to get stiff. I do all stretches and exercises including the one you showed. It feels good for couple hours and then start getting stiff again. Why is that and why can do for not to get stiff permanently. It makes hard to go for a walk

My knees are a little stiff firat thing but my main concern is the graunching noises they make when bending. No pain as such but a lot of noise.

Doesn't slide to well on carpet
Well try it on a chair with a hard floor.
I bought furniture movers. They have a plastic bottom and you can put your feet on them and they will move wonderfully on carpet. I think I got them on Amazon.
