Totally agree. I like watching US reseller vids but they take low shipping costs for granted. Try selling a book (or anything over 2cm thickness - under 2cm has to be "flexible"). Shipping averages $15+). The item must either have a minimum high value or sell as a lot (same cost up to ~5kg/10lbs). That's why I mainly sell paper ephemera (stamps, postcards, etc.). Nice to see vids from a Canadian. Seems like many Canadian sellers (of clothes) are going to Poshmark.

Hi Tabs! One thing about calculated shipping, and I am down here in the US on the west coast in the Seattle area. Let's say someone in NY is selling a pair of jeans. I know that will not cost more than $8.30 for a padded flat rate. But when people on the opposite side of the country from me use calculated it will charge me $17+ for a single pair of jeans. That person has lost the sale to me because I am not paying $17+ for shipping that I know will not cost more than $8.30. If the seller lives closer to the middle of the country then it doesn't really hurt them but most of the US population is on one coast or the other. No one ever talks about this issue and it really blows my mind. Hope that makes sense. I know this may be very different for Canadian resellers but like you I can only speak from my experience. xoxo Melissa
No this makes total sense. I’m kinda central Canada… so I find my rates can be reasonable. And ppl always say I ship fast, bc I’m central. That makes total sense. I was thinking with my flat rate I eat $1-2 bucks shipping to states on most items. Which I price into pricing. It all washes out in the end. But I do think the best rate you can offer helps sales.

I always use padded flat rate on things over 12oz when possible. And I charge my buyer the $8.30 instead of the $10 whatever it is before our discount. I wouldn’t pay $17 for shipping jeans either. That’s nuts

Adding .25c on your listings doesn't sound silly. There is definitely a formula to it. Never list an item with .99c as people subconsciously think of cheap or dollar store grade items no matter the brand. On the flipside pricing with .00c we subconsciously think luxury as this is how luxury brands price their items.....probably why Poshmark uses the .00c pricing!

Love this video, lots of great info!! I would love some eBay experience based info on returns from U.S. I am in Ontario, Canada and had free returns on all my listings, as suggested by eBay. I had 2 orders both high priced boots go out and had complaints. I could have disputed as I don't feel they were warranted BUT don't want any marks on my account so tried to figure out how to get the items back to me. Getting a return from U.S was a pain and costly so just let her have the item. The second pair I gave her some money back, which she was happy with. I have since turned off free returns from U.S on higher priced items, kept it on items shipped in Canada and items that have low cost to me if they were to ship to U.S. Questions for you: 1. Does the paypal shipping that you are using offer an easy way to get returns from U.S (obviously I will research this myself as well) and 2. have you had any experience or what features do you offer on your listings for buyers in U.S.
NOt sure I dont do free returns, it is up to the buyer to pay and ship back... I don't think I could offer free returns. I offer flat rate shippingof $9.99 canadian and I accept return up to 30 days.. I think thats it.
Is a regular kitchen scale ok for lighter weight items? I'm thinking of getting started. I'm in Canada and the shipping costs are a definite deterrent. I've been going back and forth but you're encouragement helps ;) Also, how important is having an established rating or feedback? As a new seller I'm wondering if that's a factor. Yes kitchen digital is totally fine. Make sure weight includes packaging material. I would stick with polymailers, for that reason. And for sure ratings matter. I’ve heard others recommend buying small items from established sellers. They know to leave feedback on all purchases. And the feedback can be from solds or buys, it combines them!!

One thing i've noticed about item specifics and missing categories is that no matter how many items you add .. it asks for more. On many of my items I have almost everything fill out except stuff that doesn't apply to the item and many times it wants those items too even though I can't fill them out.

Yes. I sell on eBay and I’ve been wanting to cross list to poshmark but I have the same anxiety that poshmark is way too complicated. When I opened my poshmark account, I just felt bombarded with all the accounts they said was following. Like I couldn’t navigate because just logging in was an overwhelming experience. So after a couple of logins and even trying to unfollow some stranger accounts, I just didn’t go back to sort out how to start selling there.
I'm exactly opposite, I find Poshmark Canada fairly easy but Ebay complicated. Both of my accounts have little activity so I'm hoping to gain some ideas on how to fix that here. 4seasonsbydeb

I ship to the us all the time. I fill out the few check boxes they ask for customs. What is the item and value. As for taxes, chat with your accountant. EBay now collects taxes on your behalf!

So for shipping to the US the only main concern would be filling out the custom form since the taxes are collected by eBay? I’m new to how the whole tax system works(as a seller) on selling on eBay since I’ve only been used to paying taxes from a regular job, would I only be taxed on the profits I made at the end of each year?

I find the rate I get straight from the Canada Post site with my Solutions for Small Business card is better than the Canada Post rate I am offered on Netparcel. So I am still shipping directly with Canada Post. Although Netparcel can offer good courier rates that beat the Canada Post rate, I live more than an hour away from a courier drop-off so that's not an option for me.
I’ve been using ups. And depending on size of package I was getting a better rate still with netparcel. I would play around with dimensions in it. It’s dimensional weight, size matters. Flatter is better.
Hi I just sold a high price item over 1K on ebay, and I wanted to prepay the duties, and taxes so the buyer in the states wont get any custom charges. Are you familiar with when buyers are charged duties when they receive their item? I talked to the ebay Rep, and they said when I used the ebay shipping label the buyer, wont get a customs charge. Is that correct?
Great video! There's something I don't quite understand, can you clarify? You mentioned ebay renews the listings after 30 days, so when they automatically renew the listing does it show up as NEWLY LISTED? Or do you have to end listing and sell similar for it to show up as "Newly Listed". I wasn't sure why you spend extra time doing that if ebay automatically relists it for you after 30 days.
Listings will auto relist with the same ID #. eBay algorithm has recently been "reprimanding" to dissuade us from ending and fresh listing an item so don't do it too often. My sales dive for a couple days when I do it. Also, your monthly listing amount will count these ended listings into the total allotment for the month.
@@angelad.8944 Listings relist with the same ID but they don't show as "Newly listed". If you listed the item a year ago and ebay auto relists it each month and you filter results by "Newly Listed" your item won't show up as newly listed, it will be at the end of the results. Does ebay really penalize you for ending the listing each month and relisting it?
@@ke88kee I was chatting with a rep about how to change shipping to local pick up after someone purchased from me. They said I would have to cancel, end the listing and make a new one with the shipping option change. The rep also said that I may see a dip in sales because eBay doesn't like it when listings are ended just to make a new listing too many times in a cluster. That is why I suggested they use caution. I suspect it gums up their database since those listings sit there for a few months.
Do ebay charge insertion fee now if you dont have a store? I am a new seller and I tried to list my item worth $180 and the y told me I have to pay $6.90. Pls help me.
That is up to you and your business. You can sell for free. There are limitations. I like the ability to set sales and walk away with my store. But I’ve heard many big sellers say you do t need to bother unless you are reaching the limits.

When you connect your ebay store to net parcel and have your label scanned with ups, will the tracking automatically update on ebay or do you have to paste the tracking number into ebay?

I have set some goals for myself, and learning more about shipping is major! I am good with using USPS, but international is where I need help.
@@TabsMcCaffrey well to this point only Canada post because I’m in rural NS with no UPS, Purolator, etc nearby. But I have just checked out NetParcel and have contacted a local 3rd party carrier company to see if they have any partnerships with some of these bigger names and if I can use NetParcel and drop off prepaid packages to them just 2 mins from my house that will save me a ton of money versus using Canada post for everything.

You need a shipping policy and return policy. Google how to set it up!! EBay has good tutorials. That’s all you need!

Yes shipping can be tough on eBay. I don’t know what to say, and that won’t guarantee sales. Make sure you comp search stuff on eBay before sourcing.

They will automatically but I don’t think it’s shows up new. You should end listing and sell similar
Listings will auto relist with the same ID #. eBay algorithm has recently been "reprimanding" to dissuade us from ending and fresh listing an item so don't do it too often. My sales dive for a couple days when I do it. Also, your monthly listing amount will count these ended listings into the total allotment for the month.

If you listed the item a year ago and ebay auto relists it each month and you filter results by "Newly Listed" your item won't show up as newly listed, it will be at the end of the results. Does ebay really penalize you for ending the listing each month and relisting it?
@@ke88kee I was chatting with a rep about how to change shipping to local pick up after someone purchased from me. They said I would have to cancel, end the listing and make a new one with the shipping option change. The rep also said that I may see a dip in sales because eBay doesn't like it when listings are ended just to make a new listing too many times in a cluster. That is why I suggested they use caution. I suspect it gums up their database since those listings sit there for a few months.

That is up to you and your business. You can sell for free. There are limitations. I like the ability to set sales and walk away with my store. But I’ve heard many big sellers say you do t need to bother unless you are reaching the limits.

I list on ebay . ca, they pay me in canadian funds. If you list on US they pay is usd I believe.

Sales have been extremely slow this last 6 weeks on PM so hoping to subsidize thru EBay. I am using a flat ship rate $9.00. Do you have any other tips outside of your video on EBay?
I’ve been using stallion to get them in the us. I’m getting the best rate through them where I live. I have cancelled my store since recording this. And I promote at 5%.

Thanks for so much helpful info! I am so timid about shipping that I don't ship out of the US. I want to learn more about worldwide shipping, because I know eBay is popular in other countries! I have set some goals for myself, and learning more about shipping is major! I am good with using USPS, but international is where I need help.
You can do it! You can always set it that they can request shipping rates. Or do calculated to canada. We are very similar to the US

@@TabsMcCaffrey well to this point only Canada post because I’m in rural NS with no UPS, Purolator, etc nearby. But I have just checked out NetParcel and have contacted a local 3rd party carrier company to see if they have any partnerships with some of these bigger names and if I can use NetParcel and drop off prepaid packages to them just 2 mins from my house that will save me a ton of money versus using Canada post for everything.
