I sent brand new shoes to someone in California and ebay gave them money back even though it showed item delivered. I told them someone probably stole it; but, it got there lol.
i used to sell big time on ebay for many years but will no longer as there are just too many scams the number of times i have been ripped off by dishonest buyers is just soul destroying and ebay always side with these buyers
@@Realqueensofmiami They may ask for your information in subtle ways, tell you the item isn't as described even if it is( you gotta be veryyyy sharp about your description if you are not sure don't put it), they'll usually have 0 feedback, but follow your gut instincts, I didn't and it cost me.
@Sheila Whitaker I got scanned out of a mobile phone, after almost a month they claimed it didn't work and ebay refunded them, the item was returned from another country to which I'd posted it and the box was empty, luckily on this occasion ebay also refunded me also but I'm sure this was a rare outcome in the sellers favour
I’ve been selling for 3 months and I’m currently at $7,800 in sales. I list when I have time. I have listed everyday before and my sells are the same either way. ( so I do not stress over that whole list everyday thing) what I have learned the past 3months…There are good days and bad days with sales. I steer clear of heavier items unless it’s really going to bring a good profit bc the shipping costs are ridiculous. I offer free shipping. Most things I do not sell with best offer. I set a reasonable price for the buyer but one that still makes profit. I do have a few heavier items that are still listed from before I realized those items are not worth the $3 profit I will make in the end, so i added calculated shipping to those items and in the description box I stated that the shipping was calculated from my location to theirs and I do not make profit off of the shipping. Being open and honest will get you way more sales. People know if a listing looks shady it probably is… like an item listed for $5 and $45 for shipping. That is just an insult to a buyer, they are not dumb but doing that basically makes them feel like the seller assumes they are also I can not stress this enough, take GOOD pictures!!! As someone who also buys a lot on EBay and other sites when I come across an item with one picture and a wimpy description it pisses me off and I immediately move on. Take the pictures as if you were the one looking to buy the item. I promise this makes a huge difference. What would you want to know about the item if you were buying it personally. Lastly, I stick to name brand items that are popular and in really good shape. Meaning just because you find a north face jacket doesn’t mean it will sell for $80 if the Zipper doesn’t work and the arms are ripped off 😂 if you do sell it for cheap and make sure to state the flaws and take pictures. People will still buy flawed items when you are honest about the flaws. I sell lots of them but I make sure it’s known. I know this is long. But I hope it may help someone, somewhere ❤
tHanks for posting. Great tips and advice. I have been setting up and eBay room in my storage. Not for me to use, but rather an opportunity for someone else to make a go of it. Have a super fantastic week!
@ahelto8359 what do you like to sell? I want to start a reseller store. I like to resell using marketplace but I'm in a small community presently and my fb marketplace hustle isn't doing as well as I'd like
People are quitting because eBay sales have plummeted. I've sold for over 2 years and have been listing like a madman for the last 2 months with zero increase in sales. I'm consistently listening daily.
I have 800 items Vs 100 3 years ago. Exact same quality/tags/fashionable/seasonal … I make way less money now and I’m working 4xs harder. I pay more for inventory, I sell less overall and eBay takes a bigger bite. Poshmark Live has bottomed out prices. I can’t give stuff away. (My cost of goods is $8)
I sell vintage motorcycle parts and the sales have fallen off a cliff. During the worldwide shut down I was doing 1k to 1500 a week now I'm lucky to do that in a month. Even views are down. Everyone is stressing the economy and the storm that's on the horizon.
This BS about listing daily thing has got to be put to bed. Ebay Australia Staff claim that daily sales have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with how many uploads you send on a daily basis. They have already put this theory to bed at a recent Seller + Ebay Staff get together.
I have been selling on eBay for nearly 5 years. I have had a very successful reselling career. But…I’m quitting…and there are multiple reasons why others are as well. Higher thrift prices, lower sales prices, less sales velocity, higher fees, eBay’s moving target and no playbook provided…all businesses require adjustments thru the years…but time vs profitability is always the determining factor…and for me and many others the math is no longer mathing. Time to be smart and shift gears elsewhere. With that being said..for those staying or just getting here…Chris is one worth following.
Platforms depend on what you're selling. You have to research them all based on what the most common items are that you sell. You have to put the time in. No one can tell you which is the best platform. For instance, if you're selling games, it's not going to go over well on Ruby. You can sell on multiple platforms.
Well said, the best business strategy I would say is dont use a platform like ebay given the option because they dictate too much of your bottom line, your ability to function, and it is borderline legally suspect quite often some of the practices they undertake. Do not see some of the things ive seen on almost any other platform to such a degree. Nor am I paying as much fees. I could make more and actually have room to grow without ebay a restrictive ebay dictatorship by just building my own website and doing some minimal marketing on multiple basically free to use channels. All in all would work out cheaper having a website than an ebay shop subscription too. Probably cost me less in advertising too lol.
I’ve been selling on EBay for over a year but I’m done and deleting my account today. The fees are ridiculed, add fees and transactions fees and expensive shipment. Plus, if the transaction gets cancelled or even you need to cancel it, you still have to pay a fee Sales are super slow Horrible I’m deleting that platform Over the course of a year I sold 791 and had to pay 320 on fees, and I charge shipping to the customers. Horrible platform for any dealer It’s literally more expensive than Amazon and way more complicated to navigate
The fees are outrageous. They cut into so much of your profits. And then i got an email the other day saying they have to report my small earnings to the IRS? Ive already paid taxes once on my items. Im just reselling. In fact, it isnt even a profit because im selling used items for less.
Great informative video. My problems are (as a very small seller) the FEES. I sell sports cards sparingly, here and there. It's pretty disheartening when I sell something for almost $91, and receive $70. Or sell something for $30 and receive $24. This is bull crap. Feebay is raking in dough and doesn't GAF...as someone who does this sparingly as a side-hustle. What would really help is if they didn't also calculate FEES on shipping and taxes. Such a farce.
It's extremely difficult to buy and list new items when you're not selling anything on the platform and your sales are down by 60%. eBay continually makes changes for the worse and we all suffer that's why they're leaving...
Agreed. I have a store of about 3000 items and had sold $100k+ in past years so I’m not a stranger to success on the platform. The main issue is just how cash intensive it is in order to continue influencing the algorithm regardless of what happened the prior few weeks. You need a surplus built up for when that happens, but it’s gone on that way for some time now
@@myplatinumlife exactly I wouldn't mind listing every day if my efforts paid off. Unfortunately the work I put in does not seem to pay off at the end of the day. The constant changes and increasing fees are pushing people away.
It sure is! I wanted to be a "part time" seller just trying to earn a few hundred a month. Not everyone wants to become the mega-store with thousands of items in it, but I've got caught up in it as most of us have. I spend more money on inventory, to list everyday, building my store to now over a thousand items, with little to no improvement on sales. I've finally just decided to stop the stressing. I don't make this money to live on like a lot of you so I'm going back to enjoying the hunt, listing when I can, taking what I get, and living a more stress-free life.
I've been selling on eBay for quite awhile now, mostly for fun and gearing up to have some extra income when I retire in a few years if needed. My biggest problem with eBay is that they allow obvious scam artists to give negative feedback. Example: "Item was delivered but was stolen from my mailbox". eBay allowed that negative feedback. I could go on.
There are ways to deal with scammers…. It is out of your control if it was delivered…. I tell them to contact their postal service, check with their neighbors etc. stolen items are not the sellers responsibility. Also if you suspect fraud tell them you will file a police report if they push it was stolen or encourage them to usually shuts them down. The other scammers out there I just tell them I will file a police report and IC3 or a report with the federal trade commission trust me they go away… if they truly are a scammer poof they disappear from eBay in seconds. Probably make another profile but I am good with that. I also report them to ebay as well, report a buyer. I have never had an issue with ebay not siding with me! It is a pain in the butt but give any platform a police report number and you get attention. Your local police probably won’t do anything but it does get filed. Only filed applies report once on a high dollar item. Got every cent back! Document everything in the chat and be polite.
For real some guy tried to say the item wasn't delivered even tho it had tracking and was delivered...he wanted a refund and I told him take it up with eBay
@@mistercut8331 rofl its so wild. Their system is crap if you want anything done you need to call them and hope youre talking with someone competent enough to understand what youre saying.
Well where do I begin ... ebay sellers leave for a plethora of reasons, here's just a few: Believing youtube videos of sellers showing "haul" videos with ridiculously inflated prices (ex: I'll sell this crappy old life is good t-shirt for $25 - $30), believing that all you need to do is "list at least 10 items a day", Unable to find enough "desirable/sellable" items to be able to LIST CONSISTENTLY, Unable to afford to purchase more inventory (so that you can list consistently) because your sales are so slow. When you start studying certain successful seller's stores it's very very obvious that they (mostly) have the same thing in common - HUGE stores with THOUSANDS of listings and they list large quantities of new listings daily - more than your average person can find (one lists 50 a day - there's no way I can find 350 "desirable" items every week!!! So in conclusion I think many ebay sellers leave because they're expecting the same results that they see/read about! And no, I'm not making excuses - these are all simply facts ;)
I have been on ebay for over 20 years and have had over 12,000 sales. I'm frustrated. I buy estates and abandoned storage lockers. I have been listing aggressively. I have 1,600 listings in my store now. And I'm selling 1 to 2 items every other day or so. There was a time when I was selling 8 to 10 items a day and more. I'm retired now and am doing this as a supplement to my social security. Oh well. Getting tired of eBay anyway...
....retired.....This means you are busier than ever? How did you ever find time to work back then? What will you do if you sell less on eBay? Have you shifted to Marketplace or something like that? Stay well!
The whole point of end and selling similar is to fix old inventory and constantly rotating your inventory. Shadow ban doesn’t exist. eBay encourage to keep updating your inventory. The main point of ending and selling similar is to correct the algorithm that isn’t working for that item based on the previous title and Cassini is smart but not that smart if you change pictures around change title change price and increase promotion it works I’ve been doing eBay 12 + yes .I’ve had items sell straight after ending and selling similar , with in days. I disagree. Not everyone can afford to list additional hundred items instead of revising 100 items a day. you have to look at things from a different perspective. Rotating your inventory instead of just adding to it and making it grow. You should be rotating and selling through old inventory as well as adding new.
Increase promotion? Can you give us an example of how it is that you "increased promotion"? Are you telling everyone here to pay ebay even more money on their ripoff "Promoted Listings" ? Pray tell. Please give us an example of how you "changed your pictures around" and suddenly drastically increased sales. Please tell the world how it is that thousands of experienced top rate sellers are seeing sales drops of 73%. Google it.
Also, they absolutely shadow your listings. That's why you search for something and there's zero results but you're seeing completely unrelated products that have nothing to do with what you searched for. Yet those listings are put up by sellers and been been paid for as *"SPONSORED ADS", aka, "promoted listings."* Then go to Google and look for the same item you just searched for and you'll see the actual eBay listings for the same product. They're banking money not on fees, but charging just to be seen on their site. They are the "Sponsored ad" advertisers now. There's no way to explain it away.
I find Small Ebay sellers quit because they don't necessarily see instant results. People are conditioned to want everything here and now and things don't always work out that way. People treat it as a hobby and not as a job.
I suggest starting out as a small eBay seller as a hobby and don't quite your day job or you most likely will experience burnout! I don't have a problem waiting to get top dollar for my niche items, because I have a day job. If I like the things I'm selling, They are very nice, well kept and I have other uses for the items....I am willing to wait longer for sales. I am unique though.
As an infrequent seller on the ebay platform I have been confronted with what is apparently a new ebay policy. Payment is not made to me for an entire month after the transaction. The reason or rather excuse is whether the buyer is satisfied with the purchase. Where in other forms of commerce is payment withheld? The buyer has the right of return if the item is not as listed. I am done with ebay.
Ebay sales are hard work. That is what I think as an outsider. I admire all of you who put in the hours and passion. I find loads of things I could sell, I have even prepared an eBay room in my storage......But I set it up for someone else to use......maybe one day that someone will walk through the door. I'll be ready to help, but I can't imagine doing it by myself. Congratulations to all of you, wishing you a great 2023!
eBay kicked me off in 2009 for "substandard DSR ratings" after being a full-time seller for 10 years, and having a 99% Positive feedback rating. They shot me in the heart and took away my livelihood at a time when I absolutely could not lose my source of income.
That is interesting. I have a friend who was kicked off. In his case It appears that he made simple mistakes like losing his inventory and not being able to complete the sale. After what you wrote I wonder if it was more eBay in the wrong than my friend. In the long run, in the case of my friend, I'm afraid eBay was correct. In your case I hope things worked out and a new road opened up.
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals Yes, it only worked because I had to open a completely new account with a fake identity with a different IP address. So, I have to maintain my "fake" identity every time I log on. It just got to be too authoritarian with their "dsr" rating non-sense. I'm not even sure if they use those any more. But so far, so good.
@@mellowmoods8393 I hope it goes well for you,...Interesting how many income streams these days can be cut off overnight. I don't believe UA-cam channels earn money...sure a few...Just like the Actresses/Waitresses ratio. Those channels that do often speak about how they can have their income vanish. A local store has steady clients...eBay sellers have it tough. My hats off to you all!
That's why I never rely on one's business to provide for my well being. I run on several delivery platforms as a retiree. Several because if I relied on one, there's no way I could make any money. But sourcing all 3 I generate a nice positive cash flow. I ran on Ebay since 2013 and I was rolling as a reseller. Estate sales, Goodwill, garage and yard sales etc. After Covid, all names I said raised their prices and it wouldn't stop. Then I noticed that my sales were decreasing and ebay was charging me relisting fees. Once I found this out, I pulled the plug and let it go. Now I just side gig hustle. Hope you bou
@@thebagman5216 Well said. That is similar to my "five fingers on your hand" rule. Make sure to organize five sources of income, small or large doesn't matter. What matters is you are not only relying on one thing and just sitting on your hands.
I really appreciate your videos. Whenever I feel like I can't do this or nothing is going to work out I pop on one of your videos and it gives me insight and keeps me grounded. I have learned so much from listening just wanted to say thank you for all the help.
eBay got too complicated.I'm done with ebay. I quit selling on eBay right after they started taxing sellers on top of tax (ebay fees on sells tax) and shipping. Ebay became greedy and evil.
My experience as a 3 year seller, also worked in retail 30 plus years, money is tight and there are many shopping options. I often visit associates that still work in retail at stores and they said their sales are down as well. We have been rotating and working on our Ebay store and it has picked up, and we are below average, soon to be above average. Keep on hustling people, don't ever give up !!!!
I have been selling since 2001 . I don’t give up .I sell more when people leave. Now I am selling my late mom’s stuff . She was a antique jewelry & collector. She was a hoarder. Once I have everything gone then I go back to thrift stores
My account was suspended by eBay for selling a perfectly legitimate record album purchased by me in 1982. In fact, at least five other eBay sellers have the exact same album for sale. Not a single one of the sellers were suspended for selling it. When eBay starts punishing sellers for listing legitimate items for sale, we all have problems. By the way, I'm a top rated + seller. Guess that makes no difference to eBay.
Im currently down 50%. My reality is that i think im doing everything better than I was, but im performing worse than i was. I cant go back and purposefully rewind to how i was doing it, because it was objectively worse. So now what? This is why people give up. You can follow all the advice, be meticulous with your sourcing and listing, price well, and still 'fail'. If i was doing this full time I would HAVE to quit. Nothing suggests if i double my input time that I will have better performance as Ive already done that. Yes, i am biased, but its hard to keep the motivation up when you have a certain consistancy, monitor trends and sales data, and go backwards. 2c
I'm an outsider asking this question. Are there simply more sellers or have people's buying trends changed? eBay to me was a place I could go and find something used but hard to find....Have people turned to buying new and cheap from the Internet? Very interesting because I'm not in eBay sales.
I agree with some of your points, however I work on my store every day and honestly the economy right now is the main reason for the huge downturn of sales on eBay. I have around 270 items on eBay and should be selling about 3 items a day. I go two to three days without selling an item. I have been on eBay on and off since 2005. I have never seen it so bad. Please lets not make this seem like its 100% the fault of small sellers. People do not have the disposable income they once had. I am grateful I have a job in addition to my eBay store.
100% I stopped watching so many UA-camr's videos because they were only showing the big finds or were only making a video for content for their hundreds of thousands of subscribers. It doesn't help new Resellers or Resellers looking for information when people aren't transparent. It honestly p*sses me off.
@@lozzieburger I don't personally make videos but I go Sourcing on average atleast 3 days during the week for listing purposes. Sometimes after day 1 I don't need to go day 2 but sometimes I need all 3 days plus a Saturday or Sunday.
Been selling on eBay for nearly a year now and highly delighted with sales. Yes it’s up and down 24 sales yesterday 1 so far today, but that’s just the way it is. If you have products listed that people need or just want, at a price they are willing to pay, coupled with top class customer service, you will succeed given time.
Been selling media on ebay for 4 years .I list quality items every day at fair prices. I have 100% positive feedback and am a top Rated plus seller On the last stock earnings report ebay was focused on increasing the revenue projections on income from promoted listings from sellers moving forward. Has me worried that we might need to increase prices to satisfy ebays new business model of what I am thinking wanting 7% promotion fee's to get traffic. I have seen soft sales periods in the past 4 years though nothing like what we have seen in the past 30 days. I am not trying to be negative.. Just being real with the data to back up this comment.
I really enjoy these short video's. If a video's 30+ mins long I usually skip it, but these short one's are perfect, and the little pockets of useful information really encourages and inspires me to do better. Cheers
I love most of the info from this channel, but disagree with all the either/or, White/ black type of reasoning. I heard him say in a live that your ebay day shouldn't take more than 4 hours! Well, that's just not true. There's so much that goes into what an ebay day should look like. I think the way one should approach it is to set your goals and work backward from there. Become a efficient as possible and if it takes more than 4 hours that's fine. It makes people think they're doing something wrong when they probably aren't
The popularity of thrifting has definitely affected sales. People who were once embarrassed to go in thrift stores now go in shoulders held high and sometimes holding hands with their babe like it's Saks Fifth Avenue. I used to sell and actually quit listing new things except occasionally because they just didn't move. People thrift for themselves so it affects ebay and such.
Why I don’t use eBay any longer: It takes me 4 or 5 times longer to list an item on eBay than Mercari. Their algorithm often hides my listings despite promoted listings. I get far less views on my items on eBay than Mercari and Mercari has less traffic. I absolutely can’t stand eBay and what they have become vs. eBay around 2017 or so without their stupid algorithm and unnecessarily large product details. Please keep it simple Mercari, you are doing it right. Edit: I’ve sold on eBay since 1998. While I agree we shouldn’t necessarily blame the platform, eBay has put obstacles up in my way vs. comparable selling platforms. Amazon does so much better for me as does Mercari.
I used a translation AI software so please let me know if this makes sense. :)
top rated power seller here since 2002. This year I’ve barely sold anything. Ive even put give away prices on items and not selling. Traffic sucks and people holding their money tighter idk
Don't you miss the old eBay...I sure do. Before it became mainstream, and "algorithm BS", you used to list your item, people would see it, and purchase. Now the "algorithm" hides your listings. It's all BS.
Well one of the reasons is when they started asking for a social security number a couple of years ago well a lot of people just aren't going to share that private information with a corporate entity known for being hacked and having poor cyber security.
This guy knows his stuff. However, as a data analyst myself and a hobbyist on ebay it clear he's analyzing the data and make informed decision to some degree. His videos are gold!
The parameters for negative feedback need to be drastically tightened. Buyers have weaponized it to a point where it's almost impossible to 3 or 4 months without getting one, usually for no good reason.
Thank you for the knowledge Chris! Always learn from you no matter how long or short a video is. You're what's right in the reseller community. God Bless!
I believe why is that they watch the resellers who post "I made 2,468 within my first week, you can too" videos. Then this new small reseller thinks off the bat he/she will make a few thousand with no knowledge on what items to get..then if they dont get the same results within a few week, they think it's not working then quit. When I began, I didn't have high set expectations. Which left more room to learn more and watch myself grow little by little. Don't get so high on expectations! The resellers who make 1k+ a week have alot of time and experience. If you're new and want the same results. DO.YOUR.RESEARCH!!...Learn the business a bit more and continue to build. Don't listen to naysayers who are on the outside looking in. 9/10 they are stuck in the comfort of a typical 9to5 and have no knowledge on owning a business or have never given it any mind..so of course it's a bad idea to them. Majority of the naysayers I had are now wanting to learn how to do it too..but as I said, they are too in the comfort zone to run it as a business. Keep pushing forward. Just think..all corporations all started as small business and grew through time. Even Sam Walton (Walmart)..he started as a small general store that was open only 5 hours a day...from that small start to the world's #1 retailer.
Another thing to think about is if your selling long-tail items. I sell a lot of postcards. I expect them to sit a while. Collectibles are like that. You need a collector to come along.
You wouldn't be able to leave your eBay store to your children. eBay does not allow stores to be transferred or sold. It is an awful, ridiculous, unfair policy. Many families work together building a store and if the owner on file passes it cannot be left to family. If a married couple works a store together and splits...the owner on file gets the store. Something for families who run eBay stores together should think about.
100% Correct. We found that out the hard way...my husband was retired late last year and we knew he would have the time to devote to our store. Called eBay 4x to inquire about changing the SSN on our store to his SSN and were told it could be done and what we needed to do in order for this to happen. It took months to get everything accomplished (in the meanwhile he had poured a lot of time and energy into my store) and we called eBay back and were told we couldn’t change the ownership. That we had to move the almost 500 listings by hand over to his store. This had never been mentioned in my PREVIOUS 4 CONVERSATIONS with eBay ‘Customer Service.’ So, he basically wasted a lot of time and effort in building up a store that had the wrong tax info on it. I was not working the store - he was because eBay CSR’s told us we could change ownership. My store was much more established than his and we wanted to use mine if possible. If we’d have been given correct information he could have been pouring work into building up his store. I even spoke to Supervisors and they don’t give a rat’s ass what incorrect info their CSR’s give you or how much trouble that false information causes. They wouldn’t even transfer over the listings from one store to another. We’re sorry is all they kept saying. They didn’t offer ANY solution. Our sales have plummeted as a result from about $2,500 a month to about $600. It is extremely discouraging to say the least. They don’t care about their sellers AT ALL.
For a person who want to leave beneficiaries to their children, you must have your own company. Ebay doesn't have a ESPP (Employee Stock Purchasing Plan) available to sellers. Ebay is just a third-party buying and selling platform, which sellers cannot purchase shares and stocks in the business to gain part ownership in the company.
I've seen enough of all those UA-cam videos just complaining about low sales on eBay. They pop up every day. It doesn't help me to watch them. Funnily enough, if I look at the "solds" every day, I see that items are still selling in my category. So those are the items I need to be finding and selling. Thanks for the reminder that "the good stuff sells first"..... I need to get rid of the fillers. Thanks Chris, I've been watching you for a few years now and you are very helpful.
thank you for the shot of Resale Adrenalin. I listen to you as I tweak my listings. I agree with what you say... somethings I bought and I now see that they are a filler and I should let them go because I have grown and would like to see my store grow and reflect my acquired knowledge. Love your mindset!
Thank you for this video!!! I asked about the "end & relisting" and how it affects my views/sales. You answered all my questions and gave me multiple goals!!
Thank you. You are a very positive influence on my Ebay business. I am at the point again where I am very selective in what I purchase, because you are correct, some items sell instantly, and some take a few months. I also have higher priced items and it's all about what the items on my route are and you just have to dig and pound everyday. It does get discouraging when you have a great week, and then get pounded with 4 or 5 big returns, but then the following week, you have a big week with zero returns. Bottom line for me, if you work hard and smart, you CAN make a good living doing what we do and have fun in the process!
So happy to find you!! I’ve been reselling for few months slow and steady. I’m part time as I do work four days a week another job! I just love to shop and resell! I totally agree to stay positive! Love all your knowledge! Thank you!
eBay has drastically changed over the last 10-15 years. I used to have tons of sales. eBay used to be hobbyist. Now, reselling is mainstream, it's gone to shit, like everything else.
Have you considered wearing a headlamp to the flea market so you can see what you’re buying better?? Would allow you to keep your hands free! Or strap one to your chest (like a camera so you don’t shine light into everyone’s eyes!) Just a thought!! I enjoy these brief pep talks-make a lot of sense!!
I'm on my 2nd/3rd month and growing inventory and trying to balance everything is tough. I'm not gonna throw in the towel. I'm gonna make it work! Little tweaks to make things efficient and learning as I go will make all the difference in the long run. Chris is right!
I did exactly that for the last 1.5 Yrs. I watch many UA-camrs daily, I consider it part of my business! I learn something new from them all. I had a great 4th quarter. I sell everything and anything and learning how to source smarter! It’s all working and my husband sees that it’s working, so much that he is building me a 20x16 reseller shed/office in our back yard. I try to be consistent and persevere!! We can all do this!!
I have less than 100 items listed, due to health reason. I've been on ebay off & on since 1999. March & April were my best months, but I had no sales, none zip from April 20 to May 13th. I always ship within 3 days and I have 100% feedback.
I have 98% feeback, but I have more than 600 listings, I make 15 to 30 sales per day. That's my main account, I my second account I have 100% feedback plus Top-rated seller, I make 1 or 2 sales per day with 200 listings. I think feedback it's not really important those days, listing new items is the key.
Watched this video during my office break. Reselling is just on the side for me and no way close to what I'm making here at my 8-4. Started by selling stuff from around the house. I do see my efforts pay off as I'm making better buys, listing regular, currently selling 4% of my inventory each day and maintaining to one room in the house. Took a few months to get to that. I think there are resellers that watch those youtuber haul videos and wonder why they aren't finding similar items. That's a disservice and only giving them watch hours. Each area will have it's own special items to find and you gotta have more than a couple sources for inventory as well as knowledge.
I’ve been getting sales everyday for the past months but to be honest it’s very hard to make profit or break even after eBay’s fees and SHIPPING costs. Also depending on what item(s) you are selling- you are forced to take losses sometimes if your competitors have better prices than you. There’s just soooo much that goes on behind the scenes of being a reseller or trying to run a business on the platform but as much as I hate to say it too- eBay and reselling is imo the easiest and best place to get started and get your feet wet in the world of e-commerce business.
Hello Chris thanks for the conversation. Chris I'm not giving up my sales aren't great all the time because I can't work at it steady all the time because of dealing with back pain and also my titles may not be the greatest and it could be prices also. Thanks for all the information you give Chris and you have helped me so much I am 73 years youn. Thanks Chris!
Our current cutoff is $20. It was $15. The same item, same condition is already listed on eBay by others so it's sort by "Price + Shipping: lowest first" so 1 cent cheaper & Free Shipping. With a 13.25% and a minimum shipping cost of $3.xx $20 is our cutoff. USPS is crying about still losing money so I expect more rate hikes.
The main reason small businesses quitting eBay is eBay advertising system, They tell you the (suggested rate) for advertising and sometimes it's 15% if you don't advertise the suggested rate your listing will not show up in first 10 search results and, Basically it's either you pay another 15% on top of the 12% they already charge or good luck selling your items
Well, if you buy promoted listing...who are you competing against? I am assuming another promoted lister. eBay gets it's 12 percent from each of the competitors. I only see one winner...😅😅😅😅😂😂😂
@@derekelliott6098 I think promoted listing are good especially if you are a new seller. It literally has 10x my traffic and sales. As you grow and have a bigger inventory I don't think its needed.
Kind of depends on your CSG and your business model, i.e. slow dime or fast nickel.. or REALLY slow dollar, lol. Another thing is, while everyone should be working towards a higher ASP, cheaper items say your average $12 T-shirt, those sales of “garbage”are what helps build your velocity. Especially when your store isn’t like 5000 items… Still you need to be at 1% or better turn. Like sometimes accepting an offer that you would rather not, but, perhaps it builds a velocity in the system.. that lower profit flip leads to more sales activity. Hopefully. And if your business model is to race to the bottom, you have to do what’s right for you not other people. Like those who feel it is chivalrous or something to “protect a brand” (oh, puhleeze!) Like Chris says in the video there’s so many different small variables involved that contribute to your success or not… PS we do end & sell similar but it’s not a religion, and it’s proven empirically to move our dead stock. Even w/o pumping up (Improving) the listing.
I sell bread and butter clothes and beauty because I live In a small city and state. I quit Mercari after being there years and I’m brand new to eBay. I’ve had a goal of 10 per day, it’s usually 5 for maybe a week and a half it was one a day at best. the last (and my first) month I have sold almost half my inventory. I studied like I am in collage for several weeks about my business. I sold 4 things just today after taking the whole weekend off and posted 10 things the last two days. I keyword my titles, I mostly sell things that research tells me is trending or people want. My goal now is to up my Inventory and daily post with higher priced items and a higher sell through rate. If I can double what I’ve done my first month that is a good income stream. I’m having fun and I don’t have to work 70 hours away from my kids. Not a lot of complaints here. Any work takes a lot of time and studying what your doing.
I think that if you are driven and just refuse to let anything stop your climb you will find the way to succeed... That's what I've had to do.. Get the best items you can get for as cheap as possible.. List them PERFECTLY,,, ship them fast.. Works for me
I quit because when covid ended, all of a sudden Goodwills and estate sale companies raised the prices up. So high that the second day wasn't even profitable. So, Ebay isn't my problem. Gas, shipping cost, even shipping material is up higher. So yeah economics was it for me.
Very encouraging video. I think I and many people are junk we need BOLO items to be successful. Over time I realized that isn’t the only way. My husband love curb alerts. He has brought home amazing things for free. I shouldn’t get discouraged with low price items if they are free. He brought home two Waterford crystal flutes.
I’m quitting selling on eBay as well. But there’s a lot of reasons for it. One big reason is scam buyers . Another is feeing me to death on ebay so it jacks the price up to a no sell point. I’ve notice ebay tapping into your shipping costs as well so when you charge shipping you pay the shipping the buyer pays for eBay takes a piece of that in total sales number instead of taking the shipping out of the total sale . So effectively ebay is stealing from you also. I’ve had enough of that. So I’m shutting down on ebay. Stagnant sales very stagnant sales even on high sell through rate items. Insertion feee percentage fee nipping your shipping charges and finally now there’s promotion fees. I’m stopping all online sales. I don’t like the way it operates soooo I’m gonna open a physical shop instead . I eliminate scam buyers , I eliminate stagnant sales I eliminate theft I eliminate nipping of my profits etc. I know what my expenses are in a physical location I have considered opening a flip shop . What I mean by that is designed and built to sell to resellers . I already have a template in mind for exactly this.
I have been selling since 2014 and Im leaving the platform. I switched to selling clothing 2 years ago and it tanked my business. I am not selling enough inventory right now to buy more and I gots bills to pay. I tried sell similar and it wokred for me, but in the long term, fresh items are better. I love watching your videos!!!
Clothing items are the worst! People are so cheap and wish-washy. I just don't have the patience...Lol My biggest sellers are/have always been Video Games, Consoles, Electronics and Accessories.
When eBay just freezes my account and then holds my money and then conducts an investigation demanding my home address, interfering with my business and shutting it down is not the type of business relationship for which I should pay or expect. It's best to have my own brand, actually more cost effective as well.
Chris, I hope you realize that sometimes sellers can have the best price, sell a high demand item with great pictures and great description and Ebay might not let them sell that item, no matter what they do. I have some items that are 30 - 40% cheaper than anyone else on Ebay and the platform will not let me sell it for 2 months, until the algorithm decides it's my turn to sell it. Sometimes, you are at the mercy of the algorithm and there is nothing you can do to change that.
Honestly quick solution, have come to discover if you put your ad rate high enough you will make sales lol. Ebay is self interested, if they will make good money from your sales in ad revenue you will make sales. I noticed on some listings the difference between 9.5% ad rate at a 10% lower price, and 10% ad rate at a 10% higher price, I would unituitively make more sales (somewhere in the range of 33-100% more) at the higher price, purely because ebay would give the listing more exposure to interested buyers with the higher rate. Which also makes me question the whole system, because the view rate did not change drastically, nor did the watchers, but 0.5% at a higher price would increase sales drastically, so there is probably a set number ad wise on their system where they give sellers greater priority on the platform, and the normal numbers you see may be questionable. I've noticed though you can game it slightly, because the algorithm will give you higher placement for sales/page views essentially, you can do short spurts of high ad rate, followed by short spurt of lower, and keep the listing highly placed and still with momentum without consistently getting done over by crazy fees. Also good to do high ad rates prior to big selling periods, so by the time the big selling period comes around, you are strong in the algorithm, and can then lower the ad rate, making more profit whilst retaining a good amount of sales - and then you are also not in a battle with ad spending rates with big brands during these periods, because you probably wont win combined with the fact ebay will also push these more. But this strategy will also slowly squeeze out your competiton granted you make more sales and they struggle for market exposure as a result.
Bro you are the GOAT at Reselling for real, You speak facts and do not sugarcoat nothing, You tell people the truth about reselling and not just make it all about how much money you make, You show people the way to success! Thank you for all you do!
Well said. I have a 3 strike rule. No money 3x at a store and I move on. There are plenty of ways and places to source. I'm not married to any one store or one way to source. Adapt or die.
Thanks! I’m working steadily to learn and build a small business. I’ve been selling on eBay since 2001 and have pivoted into new areas. Your message is very encouraging to me bc I’m not looking for instant success. Thanks.
I've been reselling for 3 years now and it's really hard finding inventory lately.I used to make 4,000 a month now down to 2,000 a month. But I'm not giving up until I find another side hustle.Imma keep consistent until I get my sales/inventory back up again 💪💪
Let’s see, selling as is doesn’t matter your not protected from bogus returns, buyers are liars, scammers and cheaters, can’t leave buyers negative feedback, money is on hold and they do not release it until you die from a stroke, you can spend hours on the phone with them and they don’t care, your 24 items don’t matter when the buyers ask for refunds and they don’t accept anything but a refund and they keep the items.
Dude you live in San Francisco. People donate high end designer clothes to thrift stores in SF, not in 80% of the rest of the country. It's not realistic to think most Americans can make $20 per item profit on clothing.
I compeletely agree, when you find that one good item that no one has, ill wait forever until I get the price I want them for. Just recently found a nice true vintage lightning McQueen lamp for $4 resold for about $100. And I was totally fine with that. Took 3 months to sell but it was worth it.
The problem with your theory is I don't list 200 a day, I have a life. I list 10 per day everyday, so me selling similar 300 gives me a little boost, I'll take it. I have watched the day after I sell similar and my traffic and impressions go up. What is even sillier is you saying oh you sold your best item so they aren't punishing you. O.k. I have five of the same item, why didn't all 5 sell the same day, I have multiple quantities. I have since I have started sold 4 to 6 every day no matter how many items I have in my store, it's always the same profit every day. If one day a week I get a massive sell on one of my expensive items then yes, they cut me off at the knees so I make around the same amount each week. Christmas is the only outlier, if I pick up a huge amount of something really good then all that goes away until I get back to the "normal" stuff that I sell. So yes, it can happen, since you run your store and a huge store people like me that are mom and pops can't necessarily go by what you say.
The other issue you are not mentioning is the capital that you have as a large seller. You can put 10-30 new items a day on. The smaller sellers do not have this capital.
Ebay is totally useless. 500 out of my 600 extremely varied and well constructed listings get 0 views in 30 days. The rest get between 1 and 20 views. Average sales per month is one or two items
You've been great since I signed up to the UA-cam monitoring show.... You're doing a lot to help everybody else and if they can understand what's going on (it's they problem..) You done nothing wrong I repeat ...you did nothing wrong!!!

Ridiculous high fees is making sellers leaving
Truth
The thing that discourages me is when a buyer scams me and eBay doesn’t support me
I sent brand new shoes to someone in California and ebay gave them money back even though it showed item delivered. I told them someone probably stole it; but, it got there lol.
i used to sell big time on ebay for many years but will no longer as there are just too many scams
the number of times i have been ripped off by dishonest buyers is just soul destroying and ebay always side with these buyers
@@mistercut8331 please tell me how the buyers scam ? Im a new reseller. Thank you in advance 🫶🏼
Wait till ScewBay turns your faucet off! You will see why others are upset.
Same here with zero increase!
Same here...no sales at all
I have 800 items Vs 100 3 years ago.
I think you just nailed it.All of the above are very valid reasons.
Where do you recommend selling besides Ebay? I sell used items, and Ebay's 15% fee is too high, plus some of my items have gotten zero views.
Plus, if the transaction gets cancelled or even you need to cancel it, you still have to pay a fee
Sales are super slow
Horrible
I’m deleting that platform
Over the course of a year I sold 791 and had to pay 320 on fees, and I charge shipping to the customers.
Horrible platform for any dealer
It’s literally more expensive than Amazon and way more complicated to navigate
The fees are outrageous. They cut into so much of your profits. And then i got an email the other day saying they have to report my small earnings to the IRS? Ive already paid taxes once on my items. Im just reselling. In fact, it isnt even a profit because im selling used items for less.
The fees are beyond ridiculous.
Yeah sometimes with shipping, fees, and cost of goods I make less than half of what the buyer paid
@@TMeyer-ge5pj That’s Highway robbery.
@SaltyShamanI heard of whatnot and jumble both of those 2 platforms are good and also Threadup
I don't make this money to live on like a lot of you so I'm going back to enjoying the hunt, listing when I can, taking what I get, and living a more stress-free life.
eBay charges high selling fees, that I don’t even break even anymore.
Document everything in the chat and be polite.
someone bought a video game from me once and left me negative feedback because they didn't like the game
For real some guy tried to say the item wasn't delivered even tho it had tracking and was delivered...he wanted a refund and I told him take it up with eBay
same thing happened to me
@@mistercut8331 rofl its so wild. Their system is crap if you want anything done you need to call them and hope youre talking with someone competent enough to understand what youre saying.

F eBay. We the people are coming for them. Class action lawsuits are coming scumbags
Well said!!!

How about Mercari, you may do well there...

Inflation a d interest rate rises are hurting sellers. People have less play money.
You made me feel a lot better. No expectations from now on , thank you😊
I find Small Ebay sellers quit because they don't necessarily see instant results. People are conditioned to want everything here and now and things don't always work out that way. People treat it as a hobby and not as a job.
They are watching the videos out there that show people flipping a $1 item for hundreds. It makes it look like that is an everyday occurrence.

I admire all of you who put in the hours and passion.

eBay kicked me off in 2009 for "substandard DSR ratings" after being a full-time seller for 10 years, and having a 99% Positive feedback rating.
@@Dancing_Alone_wRentals Yes, it only worked because I had to open a completely new account with a fake identity with a different IP address. eBay got too complicated.I'm done with ebay. I quit selling on eBay right after they started taxing sellers on top of tax (ebay fees on sells tax) and shipping. Ebay became greedy and evil.
When eBay introduced Promoted Listings it turned a lot of sellers off. It seems like a scammy way to get more money out of the sale.
What do you mean? How do you know you were suspended for selling an album? Did you try to get to the bottom of this? It doesn't make sense.
What album was it?
I very much appreciate that you stick to facts and numbers, and you address problems and concerns from the reselling community pragmatically. ❤
100% I stopped watching so many UA-camr's videos because they were only showing the big finds or were only making a video for content for their hundreds of thousands of subscribers. It doesn't help new Resellers or Resellers looking for information when people aren't transparent. It honestly p*sses me off.
@@theresellinghusband I think sometimes it would be good to see some "fails" and mistakes, rather than all the gold medal victories.
I'm quitting Ebay. It's an absolute NIGHTMARE of a company to work for. Absolute thieves
@@fabulouslifeinchrist1349 I agree. It is way too hard to sell anything and the cost of goods from thrfit stores is so high now
Why I don’t use eBay any longer:
It takes me 4 or 5 times longer to list an item on eBay than Mercari.
Hi, I'm Japanese. ebay since last year
, but are the number of people buying on eBay decreasing in America? Or are more people buying on Mercari?

top rated power seller here since 2002.
His videos are gold!
its rare for someone to keep me listening the whole time, youre a great speaker, good video man .
just do both. list on top of delisting/sell similar.
@@biffboffowhat's the increase in sales you experienced doing this?
SUBBED ++ Excellent Stuff !!!!! Honestly EBAY is a SKILL like everything else.......Learn, Pivot......Learn, Pivot and Grow from it all !!!!!
Thank you!

Ebay has changed a lot in the last year.
eBay has drastically changed over the last 10-15 years. I used to have tons of sales. eBay used to be hobbyist. Now, reselling is mainstream, it's gone to shit, like everything else.
It’s all the UA-cam vids that claim you’ll make 100k a year 🙄. I’m going slow, if I make 10k a year I’ll consider that a win.

You're right about the haul videos. They give a lot of people unrealistic expectations given their locations and budgets...

Ebay is oversaturated now. And all the UA-camrs making videos of selling shoes are going to oversaturate the shoe market.
Thanks for always being a great teacher. Always fun watching your video.
Giving credit where credit is due. This was a great video, thanks!
Fees on second hand goods are unjustifiable. They've been taxed once. I stopped selling years ago when it hit 13% - that's ridiculously high 😂
You mean taxes, and yes ebay will tax items sold. You make a good point though.
I think end and resist is beneficial in refreshing your items when you make actual edits to the listings ie title, photos, or price.
Like those who feel it is chivalrous or something to “protect a brand” (oh, puhleeze!)
Like Chris says in the video there’s so many different small variables involved that contribute to your success or not…
PS we do end & sell similar but it’s not a religion, and it’s proven empirically to move our dead stock. Even w/o pumping up (Improving) the listing.
ebay died a long time ago. everybody has just been beating a dead horse. They did everything they could NOT to stay relevant.
I love your perspective! You are very insightful.
I just don't have the patience...Lol
My biggest sellers are/have always been Video Games, Consoles, Electronics and Accessories.

I have learned so much from your videos, you are appreciated!!

Excellent. Teaching skills sublime. Thank you
Dude you live in San Francisco. People donate high end designer clothes to thrift stores in SF, not in 80% of the rest of the country. It's not realistic to think most Americans can make $20 per item profit on clothing.
I needed this. Truly appreciate it.❤
I compeletely agree, when you find that one good item that no one has, ill wait forever until I get the price I want them for. Just recently found a nice true vintage lightning McQueen lamp for $4 resold for about $100. And I was totally fine with that. Took 3 months to sell but it was worth it.
Guaranteed to work with that model
