    Nice to hear this outlook from an experienced reseller. Ive been selling and buying on PM for about 1 1/2 years now. I got sucked into the lives and wasted money buying items…I did make posh “friends” in the live chats who encouraged me to do lives. I did 4 lives total and honestly it wasn’t worth the time it takes to prepare for a show. And live sellers typically don’t make sales higher than $5-10 per item, (and those are the ones who have regulars who follow them!) Some have either a vivacious personality or have some gimmick ($3 starts) to get people coming back. It just doesn’t work for my personality, so I’m focusing on selling items in posh and ebay that will have a higher ASP

      Don’t ever think you need to sell live to make sales. I’m quite happy with my 8hrs a wk reselling hustle. Live selling takes much more time with maybe same gross sales

    I do NOT pick up Reitmans, Bluenotes, Aeropostale, Dynamite, Garage, Ardene, Laura, Old Navy, Reebok, Puma, Champion, Fila, Under Armour. I tend to pick up pieces that would retail minimum $150 originally. That way at least I can sell it from $35+. And outside of Outerwear and Shoes I try to stay away from basics, there's just too much competition.

    I have bought from ‘pallet’ shows every week for the past few months. I buy brands like Madewell, Halara, Everlane, Good American, Andie’s. Most of the items I get are still on the brands website for full price. They’ve been selling amazing for me & quickly.

    Thanks Tabs- some great tips! Glad to see you back. No interest in live selling or buying for me either. Market research is so important even though my target client isn’t necessarily young and trendy. I noticed last year in Jan that my summer items were selling so I leaned into it even more this year. Relisted all my sandals and resort wear items. Tagged all my dresses as swim covers, etc. I’ve sold more hot vacation items since Jan 1 than sweaters and boots-lol.

    With all the people putting "no cancellations" in the title of their live shows, I wonder,how many sales are actually going through. It sounds like a nightmare all the way around. • @thedealmama3070
      @thedealmama3070 9 місяців тому +1

      no cancellations probably refers to a well known problem with auctions that some people woth gambling addiction will win auctions for the high of the win. Then they got what they actually wanted and the item itself and spending itself is a liability and they write the seller a sob story to cancel. This has always been an issue and ebay addresses it as well with non paying buyer blocking lists. So yes auctions add a layer of issues for sure.

      I watch live sales when I’m bored hoping to win some Posh bucks, lol. I’ve accidentally bid 3 times.One time I went out of the show and put my phone in my pocket and another show automatically popped up and then I got a notification that I had won an auction. Luckily the seller was really sweet about it and canceled my sale. The first time it happened the seller was pissed but I kept messaging her saying Please cancel my accidental purchase. She finally did and then she blocked me 😅

    Your last point really needed to be said, as usual, spot on! I tried shopping on poshmark/general resale apps this week. The prices compared to new were delulu. Far fewer people have budget to spend extra money on “retired color” or “true vintage” used carhartt jackets. Plenty of resellers with it priced far above retail and obviously above the sale prices since everyone has a sale most of the year. The 1/3 or so sellers listing at prices below new SALE prices, making bank high turnover in those of items I liked. Found what I needed and had multiple options of colors again at below retail sales price! There’s buyers out here for items that are priced reasonably and or have good offers as you note in the strategy section. But some people are just out of touch with reality and they get into this ego space that doesn’t help their business!

I also think it encourages people to just buy needlessly and then they regret it. If I make a sale and someone wants to cancel it, I will cancel. Selling should not be a hardship to any customer. Re live shows, it's just not cost effective for me personally. I'd rather put my time into listing and it'll be seen by all subscribers, rather than go live and sell maybe 1-2 pieces in front of a fraction of viewers. BUT, if I look at what takes me the longest to list, I really stall on listing bags. So I'd probably do a live show for just bags, which wouldn't be size dependant to a buyer.

Although I'm a low cog bins girlie I think mall brands could be decent bread and butter but if you are paying 5-10 for it at a thrift store I'd agree with not picking it up.

    I have noticed some live sellers have increased their starting bids pretty significantly. I don't know if that is because they were losing money or because they realize it's ridiculous to start items at $1 just to get traffic. I keep going back and forth with if I want to do it mainly because the one consistent feedback I hear is it's very exhausting and time consuming and I don't want to burn out even more than I can already get. I know some people are doing really well but having to essentially work nonstop.

    Well said, as usual Girlfriend! I have discovered through comp checking, that it is also important to look at WHEN the good comps sold. That has bitten me in the butt a few times. I see something that looks great, I check comps, they are great, but it still sits and rots in my closet. When I go back to recheck comps, I notice that the good ones I saw were from a year ago, even though they seem recent. It's really sad that it's taken me many fails to do this regularly! 😂😛

Now, with the upcoming promoted listings/closets that will add to PM's already highest fees in the business I'm losing interest in PM. Hi Tabs, hope you are well and your year is off to a good start! Great video! Just thought to share a few ways that I've beat the market on pricing. There's a reason that I spend so much effort on photos and making the item look good. I'm like you, I price high. I have an expectation of what I think an item si worth when it's in excellent condition - what fraction of the original retail. That's because I used to buy all of my clothing off of eBay and i remember how things were priced then. If an item is in excellent condition and could be mistaken for new (but isn't clearly new) - I price at minimum 50% of retail and likely at 60-70%. And I do make more on most items than the going rate. Kuhl pants - sold a pair for $45 (negotiated back when someone offered) - going rate based on comps was mostly around $27. I have lots of examples of this. Presentation matters, it's why companies spend so much money on branding.

  • @hausofdezi
    @hausofdezi 9 місяців тому

    Totally agree with all your points. I forget the saying, but something along the lines of the sale begins with your sourcing. I was definitely more of a volume seller for most of my time reselling, but lately I’ve had to really pull back on the large majority of what I used to source. It took some getting used to, especially the feeling of leaving the regular thrift with 3 or 4 things instead of a cart full. It felt like I was wasting my time for a while, but the real time and money waster was picking up items that no longer move for me. I’ve also had to adjust my goals since I am bringing in less inventory to post. I used to want to post 10 items a day, but doing that meant bringing in less than great things just to hit the quota.
    I still source a lot from bins/outlets, but I’ve changed my model there as well. I’m obviously always looking for gold, but I pick up the mid tier brands and bring them to BST stores & spend my time listing the items that are going to bring me a higher return. It feels good to still be saving things from the landfill and making all of my money for the trip back, normally a good amount more. Plus I still always find a few things worth listing myself.

    Play to your strengths. I have sold one LuLulemon piece in my two years of reselling and that was because it was a put back by someone. I know nothing about the current styles or anything else. It would be a waste of my time to search for it especially because I don’t live in an area where it is prolific. My background is in art and textiles. I look for materials and textures. My closet is therefore eclectic. Yesterday I sold a Tyler Bőe sweater, an LLBean Newsboy cap and a Tommy Bahama NWT top handle bag. The day before I sold a vintage Frank Clegg leather messenger bag. All these items I picked up following instincts. Total selling price 271, ASP of those items is 67.75. My cost of goods was 30 for the 4 items. Discover your skill and buy as low as possible. Everyone can find their niche if they listen to their inner voice.

    Some mall brands that don’t move at all for me in pm Canada: BCBG, gap, banana republic, garage, dynamite.
    Aritzia is slowing down for me. Although J Crew is always a great pick up - substantial pieces 😊

    Omg thanks for addressing. Since using posh sidekick last fall I’ve sold a lot in silent shows just putting items on sale. I like that it pulls in new people and my buyers usually become repeat buyers since I sell all the same type of jewelry mostly. But, it poisons the well with some buyers I think. Lately, I’ve had to discount more and more, so I ran a 50% off edit: off BUNDLES closet sale last weekend and used posh shows basically to advertise my sale to new people, but I’m gong to slack off while I rebuild inventory bc I don’t want that type of buyer pool. I can’t sell at only $15-$20 profit in those shows the way it has gotten. The cancellations are getting on my nerves. I had someone telling me to cancel 2 days later over the holiday weekend this week after everything was packed, accounted for, deleted from Mercari and literally headed out the door to the post office in the bottom of an ikea bag so I just marked it shipped and responded later when I got back. Maybe she accidentally bid, but she kept saying “I’m going to return, just cancel, which I could not by then anyway. I would have the day prior, but no way 2 days later with her saying she was hacked in the middle of the night, etc. So, I told her when she bought it, what I told her when I thanked her for her purchase, etc since I had the sidekick transcript to reference. 😂 I told her to contact support with any more questions. If they allow her to return it bc she says it’s fake, etc, I’m going to be so annoyed. That’s becoming the loophole these days with returns on all platforms. Anyway, I will usually cancel since there is a buyer request reason, but I scold and block them in front of everyone bc I warn about accidental bids and cancels in every title. If it is someone that buys a lot from me, I will if they keep asking after, but I scold them and tell them one time only. I accidentally bid myself up my first couple of times on whatnot and just ate it. Would never ask that of someone. The nerve. End rant. Haha. This is something weighing heavily on my mind right now. I got asked into the beta promote stuff, so might try that if it’s not too late. 🫤 $5 for every $1 invested with 2 weeks free. 🤷‍♀️

      @@TabsMcCaffreyI was in the Beta test for promoted in the US. Poshmark can't tell you how it works or what the fees are. I sell on consignment and can't arbitrarily charge fees that can't be explained, plus I had zero increase in sales.

    They really need to require more to do lives. I think they definitely should be at least an PA1 and have been on PM for at least 6 months. They only require the seller to have made one successful sale prior to allowing them to do lives. I just think that's crazy. They need more experience

    The Posh shows have unlimited time. Before you could block out time. Now you can have a show all. day. long. There are several sellers who "hog" the shows. I don't do live shows, it's a lot of work. And there's no guarantee that you'll get views.
    I LUV BR, but it's a slow sell for me, unless it's a man's BR. The man's sweaters, jackets, pants sell very well. But it's usually the natural materials like silk.
    Chico's is a slow sell. J.Jill is a slow sell, I can go on and on. But I ONLY but those pieces under $2.
    I have fave brands that when I see them (cheap) I grab them: Robert Graham, Ralph Lauren, Jones NY.
