  • How to Knit One Skein Simple Lace Triangle Shawl with help from Marly Bird. This is a free pattern using the Super Saver Ombre yarn. One ball of the Ombre yarn will make this beautiful eye catching shawl. It's really easy to knit and yet it's the kind of piece that makes people stop and ask, "did you make that?"
The ombre yarn does a lot of the work for you. However, it's also fun to knit this piece. You'll get the chance to knit lace. The video shows you exactly what you need to do so don't worry if this is new for you.
It's a triangle shawl which means that you can wear it as a traditional shawl around your shoulders or wear it in front like a bandana shawl.

I can’t believe I’m making this now. I’m not a knitter. I just know knits and purls. You explain this so well that I am actually making it and enjoying it. I’m so happy. Thanks Marly!

I want to Thank You Marly for doing this video. I have never knitted before. I am over 60 years old. I had bought the Purple and the Sea Coral of the Red Heart Super Saver Ombre Yarn.
The yarn is so beautiful. I am excited to make these Lace Triangle Shawls in the colors I have chosen.

I love the ombre yarn. I've used it for several projects lately. I have been making shawls for nursing homes lately as my newest charity project. The ombre shading makes it easy to make something that looks impressive with simple stitches. Once again great job, Marly.

I just completed this project! I didn't use Red Heart yarn, but an organic merino wool yarn in a similar color as the example (the Caribbean blue).
This is the fastest I've completed any project like this. Thank you Marly for the great instructions and video.

This is great, My daughter went with me to get yarn the other day, saw the shawl on the yarn band, and wanted to do one. She got the spearmint color way, I found some circular needles I had in the correct size and off she went. She got stuck on row 17, and had a little bit of not getting the yarn over then knit two together, not increasing more than the four stitches every other row. But I think she has it now. And this video helped me understand what she was asking. Thanks a lot.

I just bought this yarn today as I love how easy you make it seem to just flow off the needle. I've only been knitting for 2 1/2 yrs now so YO's have intimadated me. But I really want to make this. I'm hoping it'll fit me as I'm a 2X gal. The color I bought is "True Blue" in Super Saver Ombre, I love the soft feel and the spin of this yarn. Thanks for making a video of How to make this shawl. Don't know If I know how but if I can, I will post you a picture of my finished shawl here, but If I can't figure out how , then I'll post it on FB page of REDHEART or your page at Marly Bird. I'm a bit slow so it may be a couple of months, hopefully. LOL

I might make a suggestion when it comes to your sound though that you make sure when you're talking it comes out of both the right and left frequencies so that there's an even surround sound of your voice. I am only commenting this because I thought my headset had broken lol. Anyway, very good work and I look forward to making this shawl in the near future!

I seem to have an issue between the initial set up w the 25 stitches and the starting of the stockinet stitches to the lacing row. When I get to that row I seem to have an extra stitch when I get to the markers. Did I do something wrong somewhere? Thought I was following exactly what you had shown

New knitter - so to increase you have to do the yarn over instead of the front & back of stitch so that you end up with a hole (lace) at the increase? Had wondered why it would be a different style of increase from the Garter Stitch Shawl from last years knit-along.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  7 років тому +1

+Kathryn Lester yes, you're correct. The YO is the increase in this pattern. It's only different because the designer made it so :)

Thanks. It was as I'm watching the video and kept thinking "Why not just dot the front & back" when it finally dawned on me that it gives it a totally different look. It also explains some of the "Hey! Where did that hole come from?" in a few of my other endeavors. lol Thank you so much for your clear, and distinct instructions on these videos. I've told the other members of the knitting group I attend about your videos.

I STRUGGLED for guage on this pattern; does gauge really matter for a shawl? I had to use size 10 US needles for guage but it was so loose it looked terrible!?

one more question if I were to create this shawl with different colors would I change on a knit row?

I appreciate the instructions but there is some thing that is a bit confusing to me. When I look at the written pattern, the shawl seems to end in a triangular shape (by the picture) but there is nothing in the pattern to suggest that you're making any decreases that would create this triangular shape. So, I'm super confused about that. Shouldn't there be any decreases in the shawl towards the end?
