I love your new shawl, Barbara! I’m quite the impulse buyer of yarn, and I like that this can be knitted with a choice of yarn weights. Another home run, Barbara!
Pretty and straightforward lace with nice flow. I like how the lace breaks up the variegated yarn and that the lace is mostly on the neck side and creates more interest but not distracting.
Very pretty! Love that colorway also. I just finished my first crescent shawl. Played yarn chicken and I won! Had three inches left.... I'm so proud! Haha
This is fantastic!! I recently organized my yarn. I actually touched all my yarn. I organized it into weight and fiber types. This new pattern is exactly what I need to use up my impulse buys. I am so excited. Thank you❤️
Ms. Benson, thank you, my love for these lovely videos! You just don't know how much it swells my heart with DEEP APPRECIATION for the way you represent yourself!
Just got the pattern. So excited. Can’t wait to start! My impulse buy yarn I’m using is a fingering weight, self striping yarn in jewel tone colors. I had no idea what to make with it until now! Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this shawl! What a great design to get the most out of that beautiful impulse buy!! And it's easy too! I'm definitely knitting this. Can't wait. Thank you Barbara.❤ ❤❤😊
Impulse Buy? Ja ... ich habe mir Deine Anleitung sofort gekauft weil ich die Idee, die Lace Kante am Hals zu tragen, einfach nur genial finde. Vielen Dank dafür 🤗😎
Hi, Barbara. I am definitely a beginner at knitting, a frustrated one! I love crochet, so I’m learning to knit Continental style. Not comfortable with purling yet. This is a lovely shawl, and I have the perfect “impulse buy” yarn to make it with…. Just don’t have the skill. I’ll keep practicing. Thank you for the inspiration. 🌻Carola on Morro Bay
I already bought it!!! I Love shawls......This is going to be great for the spring and chilly air-conditioned room during the summer....I'm looking for yarn from my stash...I have an lot of "Impulse" yarn...LOL Thank you!!!
I think the most genius part of this fabulous pattern is starting it off in the lace pattern. That stretches out the colors at a point where, in garter, they'd be more likely to pool because of the small # of stitches. You can see this at 6:27 in the video.
I decided no more lace as I seem to mess up often. However, this pattern may be one that I will tackle. I am almost finished with Curvette by Stephen West. A little encouragement please. Have lots of beautiful fingering weight yarn in various colors.
I love it! I was thinking that was your shops colors, but I was thinking sea green and blues of water!😂 I have the perfect skein, one from a knit crate box years ago. Guess I better finish Argonata to free up those needles.😂
This pattern is very interesting for me. I’m not an expert knitter but this doesn’t look like a basic shawl. My sister-in-law is a very small person and I’ve had a hard time finding a shawl (pattern) for her to wear in church and other forums where a shawl will take off the chill in the air. I would like to use really, really nice yarn because I love her a lot and she deserves the best. That said, I think the first “go” should be more conservatively chosen. She wears a size 0-2 for most of her clothes, so you can imagine trying to knit for her. But she can’t find a ready-to-wear shawl anywhere. She has therefore given up…then I saw your new pattern which I love. Not too complicated for me yet not too “simplistic” either. Hope I’m expressing myself correctly. I plan on using a sock yarn because I have more colors to choose from and any of them would be beautiful. I liked your note of using “silk” as part of the yarn composition due to obtaining a better drape. Do you think this will fit her as a casual “wrap” for church? She is soooo tiny. I could only dream. 😅 Thanks for your response and any additional help, Sandy Fercho. 9890 sw Coral Tree Circle, Port St Lucie, Fl 34987 734-751-9048
The way this shawl is constructed it is worked side to side and can be made pretty much any size you want it to be. You could always transfer live stitches to waste yarn and let her try it on as it get bigger simply stopping when it is a size she likes.
Soooo.. I'm am totally brand new to knitting. I've only knitted one thing before and I'm still working on it. I LOVE your style of teaching and even this brand newbie can follow. I must say though, my VERY FAVORITE thing about this post was discovering that you call your mannequin (sp?) your 'Silent Partner'.. lol lol I love it!! One more thing... May I ask what 'YARN CHICKEN' means? Thx! I subscribed!! :) :)
LOL, thank you very much for your kind words and I am glad you like my videos. The "chicken" in yarn chicken is like playing "chicken" as in running at another person and seeing which person dodges first. People us it to imply a race against the end of yarn when you are uncertain if you have enough yardage to complete the project. Winning means you finish the project with at least a small amount of yarn to spare. Losing means that you run out of yarn before you run out of pattern.
Just bought pattern I thought it was easy , l have been knitting for a year but this is really complicated 😂😊 I don’t understand the row7 what do you mean *to the last three sets,k1,ask? The same on the 9th row. Thank you very much
This is standard wording for knitting patterns and it is pretty literal. You repeat the stitches between the * and the ; however many times will fit until you are at the point where there are only three stitches left to knit. The last three stitches are k1, ssk.
Actually, at 1:32 in the video I specifically say that this is not a beginner pattern. I go on to explain why it falls into the easy and not beginner category.
@@WatchBarbaraKnit the count does not work out, however. My question: Do you stop in the middle of the * and ; ?? once there are three sts left? Please advise.
I am afraid I don't have any special connections when it comes to getting yarn. You can go to the LITLG website and find a list of stockists that you could contact.
I noticed u love lace knit. I'm a beginner knitter but been watch YT knitting sites to learn. I have a pretty small window in my bedroom and I want to knit lace curtains. I just can't seem to find lace style and I want panels hanging together. I don't want diamond or feather/fan stitch. I would like to advance to the next step but can't seem to find what I desire. Any suggestions?
Curtains are really just big rectangles so you could pick out pretty much any lace pattern you like and plan your own. You would need to do a blocked gauge swatch of the lace pattern and then do the math from there.
Hi Barbara, Fantastic thought having pattern adaptable to different yarn weights. Love the pattern with simple lace & garter stitches. Do have a question 🙋♀️ I was gifted 3 skeins of Malabrigo lace. 100% baby merino 470 yards in each skein. Being petite I prefer a shawl to be shorter/smaller. Would this yarn work for this lovely shawl? Thank you, Denise
If you’re not looking for a sizable shawl you might be able to get away with only one skein. Two at most. Malabrigo lace is an amazing yarn but super delicate so be careful with it.
@@WatchBarbaraKnit Thank you, Barbara. Appreciate the reply. Glad you told me about the lace being super delicate because I’ve have yet to to knit with it. Thinking to do a gauge swatch to see how it works…Enjoy your podcasts..Sincerely, Denise😊

You may have already done this, but would you consider reviewing some of the less expensive yarns like Lion Brand, Pattons, etc. for those of us on tight budgets? I know shopping at big box stores is bad, but some of us have no choice. Also, heaven forbid I know, are there any good acrylics?
I would never say shopping at Joanne's or Michaels is bad. Everyone has their own level of budgeting for their crafting time. I will contemplate how to approach your request.
