I love Stranger Things but they really have to stop doing my boy Will like this. He's either being traumatized or completely ignored and neglected. And there is literally no middle ground. Let him BE HAPPY.

While I don't condone violence, I have to say that I cheered loudly when Eleven hit Angela with the roller skate. Although all of the characters were horrified, and El later got arrested, it was immensely cathartic to see Angela FINALLY get her comeuppance!

it hurt me so bad how much they were blaming lucas and kind of treating him as a bad friend, instead of supporting him. yeah his reasoning for wanting be a jock isn’t great (popularity) but it was important for him and no one was there for him, not even his sister! then when they jocks are on the search for his friends he made sure to help his friends out. lucas is a great friend and deserves better friends, i’m sorry
I agree 100% and honestly the writers have done him dirty along with his sister Erica. They don’t get fleshed out enough which kinda shows who is writing them. There clearly needs to be more diversity off screen just like on screen.
Not to mention that’s pretty much EXACTLY what they did to Will on S3 but they were wayyyy worse to him. His reasoning wasn’t perfect, the whole ‘wanting to be popular’ thing, but he never went too far. He defended the hellfire club and insisted they were harmless, he didn’t tell anyone where Eddie was and he always put his REAL friends first. The only time he ever backtracked from his statements was when it was crystal clear that he would be in danger if he didn’t (I mean, Jason very clearly wasn’t afraid to hurt anyone he considered to be part of the ‘freaks’, if Lucas outwardly said he was a part of them it wouldn’t have gone great, so I think that excuses him backtracking on his words).
While I agree, I think everyone's reaction to everything is mostly realistic. They have a close friend drifting apart and taking interest in things outside of the friend group. They're kids, so they don't always think rationally. I know many people back when I was in middle school and high school would would do very similar things in this situation.
You're thinking about this rationally, from a perspective outside of the characters, a perspective where you can see more than the characters can. You have time to analyze, while the characters in the show are, like teens tend to do, running on emotion. While I agree they should be better to him, I can't really say that what they're doing wouldn't happen 9/10 times.

I think Joyce's backstory hasn't been explained that much because it doesn't really affect the plot or explain her motivations. We know that her husband was a piece of shit and she cares a lot about her loved ones and I don't think the writers know how to add on to that meaningfully.
I agree but maybe that is left untouched for the stories in the future with more focus on Will?
i‘m so scared for lucas and max in volume 2. if one of them dies the other one will blame themselves so much and be so emotionally destroyed 😭

It would make the Vecna scene pointless so I would really hate if they did kill her off, but they did do that with hopper even though he wasn’t really dead. Maybe they will do a fake out with her too or something, I just think that those letters will come in to play at some point.
Vecna was such a chilling villian. While his points about society were true, and I found myself agreeing with him up to when he mentioned killing. A line has to be drawn somewhere!
that's why he's such a good villian, you don't know wether to love or hate him until ultimately you realize what a complex and interesting character he is- and the way it all tied together was so seamless!
I love him as such a terrifying victim but at the same time damn do I hate that asshole victim blamer!
what makes him such a great character is that he's convinced he's talking away their suffering, and even if they were to get over their trauma they would still be in the constant cycle of the world. basically suffering is eternal. I lowkeyyy think that he makes a point and his actions aren't too evil

I’m seeing some people saying they don’t like the fact that some of their favorite characters (Mike, Will, El) are either angsty/annoying, falling to the background, or separating from the group. The truth is that is good character writing. In Mike’s case, it’s incredibly common for a kid to go through an unlikeable/jerk phase during high school, even when they’ve always been sweet. Will is probably going through a ton of internal emotion right now and may not be in the forefront because he doesn’t want to call attention to himself. El has always been different from the rest of the group with her own set of problems; it makes perfect sense that she would need to spend a lot of time alone working out her own world of issues. It might not be the most fun thing to watch, but it’s good writing in terms of realistic character development.
i thought this as well, I always wonder why ppl expect them to be the same way they were when they were like 12
I think it’s good writing if after, they come back as good as they used to be or better characters. Like an upgraded version. But if they don’t and they just stay unlikeable and not too important to the story, that’s just the writers not giving them much attention. I think that’s why people care a lot. They haven’t gotten something to indicate that they’ll be better characters in the future.
I personally hope Mike becomes way cooler and more important to the story for vol. 2 and season 5 (if he survives). I miss him from season 1 especially. We need that kid that would jump off a cliff for Dustin. Neither Mike or Dustin even acknowledge that anymore. I would bring that up all the time if my friend jumped off a cliff for me lol
@@LB-tu2fk honestly I think you debunked Mike dying with what you just said. Since Mike isn't likeable now, he *is* going to redeem himself and become cool again. Vol.2 doesn't have enough time for that (or atleast for it to be done well), so he *has* to survive for season 5 where he'll be the likeable guy he was back in season 1 and 2. (Maybe even better)

@@mrknowhere6457 that's what I mean, he's only just started this growth. Having someone's character growth being one apology is not good writing. It's the first step. And the theme is that he's unlikable when he's with/dating Eleven, and his apology came the day after she left. So we need to wait and see what he's like when eleven comes back into the group before finalizing any thoughts.
How is Mike going to have the audacity to be upset at Lucas just because he is growing and doing good things when Will in season 3 was upset at Mike because he was also moving on.Mike got a taste of his own medicine.
Umm yes he was upset in the moment, like Dustin was (he said the same things as Mike but for some reason no one points that out), but he was never mad or treated Lucas badly. He acepted it and moved on. So I don't understand the hate for Mike this season.

I hate what the did to mike honesty. how did he go from the main, lovable leader character who puts his friends first over him (he literally jumped off a cliff for dustin) to one of the most unlikable person in the series? the things season 3-4 mike do are something season 1-2 mike unlikely won't do. the other characters are so consistent so they shine so well but why were mike and will given dust to their characters ;-;
They don't feel like the same characters anymore, especially Mike. It's a shame what bad writing can do to such loveable characters :(

What’s really cool creature design wise is Vecna’s father (older) is played by Robert Englund who played Freddy Krueger. a
And it seems like they pulled inspiration from that design into Vecna like the scars and how his left hand has long claws while the right one is normal same as Freddy.
I’ve loved how much more serious this season has been so far especially as a horror fan!
and the fact that he makes his victims see visions before dying, kinda like freddy krueger with the dreams

lucas (+will) has always been the best!! he saved them so many times with the firework plan in s3, his slingshot, going to the lab alone to find will in s1, etc. It’s just sad how the duffers don’t care to give him his own arc

Everyone is saying the shot of Dustin crying is because Steve is dying but I think it’s Eddie. I think you’re right in that he’s going to have a moment to save people but end up dying. If Steve dies there will be riots lmao

i think steve is the most likely to die, because everyone loves steve, like he is a fan favourite but also literally in the show if steve died everyone would be sad,because they all have somewhat of a relationship with him. and if they're bold enough to kill him, it would greatly affect dustin's character, which I think would change the group dynamics like so much could happen
I also think Gaten's such an underrated member of the cast (largely because he usually only gets to be the comic relief), and killing Steve would give him a much needed moment to really show off his range.
honestly I don't wanna see Steve die but I think it'll add so much for the show. for multiple characters. Especially for Nancy and Dustin. and in this season, yk Steve makes comments about Eddie being Dustin new best friend and etc, but if Steve were to die for them, I think it'll showcase that his and Dustin's friendship never died out and kinda just how strong he felt for him as friend.

No because will is a lot like Henry too. He was an outcast from the group in season three because he didn’t want to conform to that teenage lifestyle with liking girls and dating and growing up. He just wanted to play D&D (which has been a direct parallel to the show) Or maybe Henry IS also gay and is showing solidarity

Yes they’re both described by their parents as “sensitive boys” and they’re always drawing and being introverted. And then Vecna , the character from D&D, is a wizard just like wills character “Will the Wise”

I agree on everything you said about mike leaving Lucas. Dustin and Mike should’ve stood up to Eddie and say “ this game is important to Lucas, so we need to move the game another time or we don’t play”. They just stayed quiet and left Lucas honestly the amount of audacity Mike had this season was irritating. However, he did love to run his mouth when el defended herself and when he tried to blame will. When he was supposed to run his mouth he didn’t and when it wasn’t needed he did.

So why should they give that up, considering Lucas never even left the bench the other times they went to his games?

If Lucas had the chance to move the game he most likely would but he couldn’t. Because Lucas did want to play D&D but Mike and Dustin made him choose when they didn’t need to. I’m not surprised with Mike thinking that D&D is more important than his friend. It’s funny because if I remember correctly when Will wanted to play D&D he didn’t want to and now he wants Lucas to play, karma is a bitch.

I was truly attached to Chrissy SOLEY for the fact that her chemistry with Eddie was SO STRONG, and I wanted to see a relationship with them form. I was sad to see her go because I was seeing the potential for that relationship leave as well :(

The only person I'd be ok with losing this season is Jonathan. He's slowly becoming less important to the story, has untalked about trauma from watching everything happen to will, becoming the man of the house too young, and watching his mom slowly lose herself in season 1 until they get will back. His relationship with Nancy is slowly dying and they're teasing us with the Steve and Nancy tension. He shows up last minute with the California crew, vecna gets ahold of him and he possibly dies while vecna is busy with him but that distraction is enough for 11 to get the upperside and defeate him. Out there theory but it would be very unexpected! we're all focused on the Hawkins group's possibility of dying due to them already dealing with vecna a majority of the season. most people aren't even considering the California crew as a possibility for the big death of the season so it would be a good twist!
To piggyback on this theory I know a lot of people think Eddie was brought in the be Steve's replacement. While I agree with this I don't think it's because Steve will be dying. They've developed his character so much they do need a replacement in a way but what if it's because Steve takes Jonathans place in the group as the caring older brother figure and Nancy's reunited love interest?

there’s theories that vecna was the one who took will to the upside down (first season the door of the shed will was hiding in was seemingly telekenetically unlocked…demogorgons don’t have telekenesis) as well as theories that vecna is elevens father and that brenner basically breeded him with els mom (hence why henry took such interest in el) and those theories are quite interesting also the skate rink scene the camera filming el said march 22 or something which was said to be wills birthday and the producers admitted they even forgot wills birthday…
I do think the first theory is true. Before Will gets taken you can see a manlike figure standing before he falls off the bike. The Duffer brothers have said that they planned Vecna from the beginning.

I agree with what you said about El's character this season, like she spent like 80% of the season in the lab. that's the only separation that I reallyyyy didn't like. but her storyline this season was so good

Like why else would they call him that…… but to see them all together w him and know that he’s just experimenting on all of them like that and be fine w it, and all call him papa….. it just makes no sense 😭
@@tannerv259 same. Also how come so many of them speak perfect english? And why El barely spoke a word when she grew up with older kids that could speak clearly? And why all of them had the same exact power as eleven except for 8 who could create illusions instead of telekinesis for some reason? Her storyline was so boring and repetitive this season, the only interesting thing was the Vecna backstory.

@@Naahi95 I mean yeah I get this but I thought it was kinda clear that El’s trauma is the reason she spoke that way. She was talking just fine in all the flashback scenes it wasn’t until she escaped the lab that her speech pattern changed
@@Naahi95 also she was heavily bullied while in the lab and I feel like that also plays a part in that. Idk if this is accurate or not but it’s what I got from it. I kinda liked that they don’t straight up tell us why these things happen. It seems like those details are in those scenes without having to be super obvious about it ya know

Max will forever be the best character thanks to this season. There is no possible way any other character can top Max's battle with Vecna. 😭✋
Y'all the main kids are untouchable. However if any were to die it would be El or Will. El because she was supposed to sacrifice herself in S01 but they chose to spare her but at the end of S05 they very much could kill her off. It's almost like her fate to die to save everyone. Also Will could cause there's some sus connection be him and the upside down. And maybe he is being used for evil but sacrifices himself so he isn't a vessel for evil anymore cause a little part of him is fighting for good
I feel like there's no way all 3 Byers are surviving the show, and I agree that if anyone's gonna die in S05 it's gonna be Will. It all started with him in S01, and it feels poetic to end it with him as well.
Honestly I'll take anything to do with Will at this point, he's been so neglected these last two seasons that if dying is what it takes to get Noah screentime then so be it.
The only controversy that could come from Will dying in S5 is if he’s canonically confirmed gay and then fans will be upset cause of the “K*ll Your Gays” trope
Funny enough, a pet theory that my sister's come up with is that Mike is going to die in these last few episodes, with his death being the key event that pushes him to potentially become a villain in season 5
I liked your point about the whole Lucas "leaving" Mike and Dustin when it really was them just not caring about his opinions or cares. Especially when looking back on season 3 and it had seemed that Mike and Lucas really had outgrown D&D when Will was the only one who wanted to play. I feel like that entire fight between Will and them was disregarded when next season Mike does a 180 and is putting the game above Lucas' newfound passion as if he hadn't said he was too old for it the year before

“At some point you have to put down your games” sounds like someone who has never been invested in dnd before, when you play a campaign for so long, you are your characters, you want to see them come to an end. So when you have a campaign like that, it is a betrayal, you have been through so much with this person, opened yourself up so much, and they just leave?
Meanwhile Robin and Steve got me 🤣 this is my favorite season so far. But it won't be if they kill off Steve!! 😵💫

That’s the thing with the 80s. Gen x grew up with boomer parents. My mum always tells me how their parents would just let them do what they want. Boomers had to be reminded on tv that they should know where their children are
Probably because they were raised exactly the same way. If anything boomers got even less guidance and supervision.
I actually think the point about el being a background character was interesting. I think maybe background character is not right, but I feel like after she left the high school, her plot was less about her as a person and character and more just about her powers and she was mainly being used as a plot device. Which makes sense bc she has a lot to do with the cretion of the upside down and stuff, but i do wish they didn't completely drop the whole part of her trying to learn how to come into her own as a person and her identity, and found a way to balance it more within her storyline as 'el the superhero'
I agree in some ways. But I think it's interesting now that she has a bit of experience being a "regular kid" and going back into the facility and feeling overwhelmed. I might even argue that she's more of a person than she was most of season 3. I think in season 3 I loved seeing her and Max be friends and acting like normal teenage girls, but after like episode 2 or 3, scenes with her are almost always her using her powers. And I like that this season she doesn't use her powers much, and the group fighting Vecna is entirely without her, if that makes sense.
Overall, I just think the show relied on her powers too much, especially in season 3, so seeing her without her powers, and back in a situation that is traumatic but now with real world experience is interesting

I think the scenes where it looks like Lucas is in trouble is because Vecna takes Jason (who he appears to have a lil scuffle with at the Creel house). He seems like he’s terrified and looking up at someone.

(I don’t count the camera smashing as a bad thing; I see it as a reasonable response because Jonathan LITERALLY TOOK PICTURES OF NANCY UNDRESSING.)

to me the issue wasn’t that it was DND vs basketball, i know a lot of adults that play DND which is fine. the issue was that one was something they could just continue next week and the other was the championship game 😭 like one is a once in a while type thing that is super important at the time, and the other is something they could just join up with the next week again. also like yeah there’s two of mike and dustin and only one of lucas lol. i also just really hate peer pressure tropes they make me so mad and i’m glad it didn’t last the whole season 😭😭
I dont think Eddie’s gonna die, i think Steve is gonna die and they brought Eddie in as a replacement to fill the void that steve is gonna leave once he’s gone. Like Eddie having “great hair” and a good relationship with Dustin is just too much of a coincidence for me. Also, Robin Nancys friendship could be the writters way of giving a Robin another person in the grown kids group to be friends with, that way her sticking around them in next season makes more sense as she doesn’t really have a deeper relationship with the kids.

I’m really in love with season 4 already, you can see everyone really kind of growing into their characters and even the directors feeling comfortable to try new things, and I looooove the actual darkness this season! Actually feeling scared when bb Chrissy hit the ceiling was amazzzzzing, I literally screamed and said “They weren’t lying it’s getting DARK” to my man and we were soo hooked immediately. I hope it continues to get worse like I literally want them to beat my ass with the fear and emotions. Make it hurt, heavy on the masochism deadass!

Does anyone else miss the more subtle and realistic aesthetic of season 1? I feel like it made the monsters and supernatural elements more jarring when paired w these everyday children, in common settings. After season 1 when they realized the show was a money-maker, they focused on turning up aesthetics to 11 and can easily be made into super recognizable merch to sell en masse, between seasons.

Mike and Will deserve better as characters. I liked this season so far but it has many issues too.
As much as I love mike I'm glad he has less screen time if it means people like Lucas have more screen time and development but I dont like how Will has been in the background for 2 seasons already
@Meg Mike was the "star" (it was actually eleven) just in S1, in all the other he's push to the background as a side character. And Will is the same, just that his season was 2 (and then back to the background). I don't think is unfair to ask for our supposedly main characters to have a meaningful arc/storyline, considering they always give the others characters plenty of time, even when they're not from our main group. Eleven, Hopper, Joice, Nancy, Steve, Dustin, Max hell even Billy got more of a storyline and arc just in 2 seasons than Mike and Will did in 4 seasons.
@@Naahi95 Agreed. The argument that the Duffers are sharing the spotlight makes zero sense when you look at how they've handled the other characters you mentioned. Hopper and Joyce have been left by the wayside this season, but they were a major focus of the first 3. And while Steve didn't have much to do in 1, he's been one of the main characters since 2, and thanks to being involved with Steve characters like Dustin, Robin and Max tend to bathe in his limelight. Compare them to Will, who was often the only character in group scenes in S3 who never said a single word, and was quite often literally the only character absent from tight shots of the whole group. It would be hilarious just how neglected he is if it wasn't so frustrating.
Nancy has also had a huge focus all 4 seasons, and El is effectively the main character of the entire show; she's defeated the main threat singlehandedly on her own 2 times, and the only time so far that other people saved the day was because she lost her powers and needed protection from a monster that was specifically gunning for her. She gets massive amounts of screen time even in a season that wasn't about her (2), and the deep dive into her backstory this season was easily my least favourite subplot and takes up entirely too much space.
Millie is an incredible actress, but she really hasn't gotten to show off much range with El, because so much of that character is just endless intense gazes and screaming. She only gets to show personality when she's with the other kids, but they've insisted on separating her from everyone for 2 seasons now so she can have a spirit journey and save everyone at the end instead of working With the group to find solutions. Sorry that this turned into a rant, especially because it's not like I hate the character. But you can't argue that side-lining Mike and Will makes sense when it's been the Eleven Show for 4 seasons straight.

Henry creel feels as though they have that in common because they were both described as sensitive he may feel an attachment, maybe he feels bad for him or maybe he wants to keep him attached because it reminds him of his younger self? I've never heard this theory, but that sounds incredible and would be an AMAZING twist. However, I thought 10 was the kid with Dr. Brenner in the first episode of the season when the door flew at them in the lab. It gave Dr. Brenner a cut on his face, but he held 10 and like cried over his body a little. So I guess the theory implies that he wasn't actually dead?

I think the reason all the victims were going to the counselor is just bc it’s easier to target someone when their trauma and bad memories are at the forefront of their mind, and therapy naturally does that.

Great discussion. Can't agree with your dismissal of D&D. It's just as important as sports to those who love it and no more childish than basketball is. What didn't ring true is having the D&D session somehow being the same length as the basketball game when it probably should have taken way longer.
It is interesting how parenting was viewed very differently in the past. People from the 80s would probably be horrified about how kids are raised these days with children never going outside and being so sedentary in front of screens that we have serious childhood obesity and depression crises in this country.
We do need so see Joyce getting some justice and a better job that would actually utilize her incredible detective skills.
Will was gotten by the Upside Down and would have died repeatedly if Joyce and the rest of his friends and family hadn't rescued him. I guess we are supposed to believe that his self-sufficiency (he apparently did have a gun with him when he was first abducted and evidently knew how to use it) combined with his powerful imagination enabled him to survive longer.

This is not a hate comment just an observation but I feel like a lot of people are missing the fact that every monster in stranger things is an allegory to some sort of mental/psychological/emotional struggle we face everyday as human beings. Seeing them as only a fantasy story is definitely fun and interesting but the allegories are the most beautiful parts of the show and needs more appreciation. Vecna really brings together the previous themes of fear, paranoia, isolation and emotional pain that was previously represented into a now physical form to show the extent to which these emotions and mental struggles can take us, that we, as humans, are capable of being monsters. okay gotta blast.
I want to correct you on the Bob grief thing. Joyce may not have been seen openly grieving Bob, but you can tell she still wasn't over him by the way she pushed Hopper away all of Season 3 up until the last episode.

i saw this theory on tik tok but I don't think Eddie will die, he's actually connected to el and vecna which is why he will stay alive at least until el reunites with him. *basically, Eddie is 010.*
*1.* So at the start of s4, you see 010 has the ability to see wherever he wants with his eyes closed, a tool powerful for papa to track down people, etc. he looks to be around 14-15 in comparison to 011 that was 10 when the massacre happened. so he's about 5 years older than el. el is 14-15 in s4, and eddie is like 19-20 since he repeated a couple years. **so the ages line up.**
*2. well, 010 was testing with papa in another room, and he was never shown dead* when papa went to see the rainbow room. all the other kids were shown dead. (then papa thought it was eleven who killed them but she actually just sent vecna to the upside down and opened it etc.). just like we never saw 008 die bc she managed to escape. so this gives us a hint that 010 is alive.
*3. Eddie mentions to Chrissy during their talk how he had a shaved head in middle school* , so if the ages align he might've been like 14 and in 8th grade, or people were unsure of his age. the fact that he entered the school system at the age of 14-15 would also explain how he wasn't that good academically and had to repeat a couple years. so yea, the shaved head thing.
*4. his watchhh. eddie ALWAYS wears a watch on the wrist where his 010 tat would be* . coincidence? i think not. especially since he actually USED the watch which characters rarely do. maybe to give us a hint?
*5. he knew the whole jason collective was coming for him so many times* , he was always paranoid and seemed to know that they were close to him. Maybe bc of his powers?

i think vecna took will to the upside down, cause if u see the figure in season one episode one, it is shaped like vecna. i also think that since will didnt get eaten by the demogorgan like the other victims, i really think vecna kidnapped him. so, i really hope that in volume two, when they all come together, i hope will can be able to be the savior since he allegedly got kidnapped by vecna and can save his friends, which i really like the idea of him getting a better role
While I would love more LGBTQ+ representation in the show, I don't know quite how to feel about them making Will gay. They already waste the character's potential and I would hate for his sexuality to become his main character trait. I hope it didn't just come from his line about not understanding why his friends are in relationships or why they would even like girls, because I feel like that was more about him missing out on his childhood and desperately trying to cling onto a simple life of his friends and D&D. I absolutely love Will, I just wish the writers would give him more moments to shine, hopefully they do a good job with his coming out and his character in general going forward
Edit: Hi Eevee pointed out that Will's sexuality was in the show's original pitch (Montauk), which I did not know. We only got little hints and bread crumbs that felt a little ambiguous to me, but I also understand that he's a gay teen living in Indiana (and California this season), during the 80's, amidst the aids crisis. Not exactly the most LGBTQ+ friendly time period. It does make me feel better that this has been a long time coming, but I still hope they do my boy Will justice.
i believe that the duffer brothers planned out seasons like how season five script is already completed prior to this recent season coming out. They could’ve been planning will’s sexuality out from season two many may argue, but I do agree that since he’s barely present that i don’t want his sexuality to become his whole arc either and actually go back to how will is involved in the whole point of the show and not just his “potential feelings” for mike.
will being gay has been planned out since before season 1. it was in the pitch for the show that he’s a kid with sexuality issues , it’s not a main character trait either , it’s just this season they’ve shown his love for mike. will has always been a key player in the supernatural plot lines even if it was slim
