i think it’s very important how apparent they made that charlie and nick’s relationship is not the same as charlie and ben’s relationship. because although they were both kept secretive, one was about love and trust while the other was about manipulation thus toxicity to the point where a person feels trapped creating an insecurity that was not charlie’s problem to begin with.
exactlyyyy. Plus nick was actually TRYING to grow and improve. He knew how charlie felt about the "secret" situation and was apologetic whereas Ben saw himself as the victim and lashed out at charlie instead
right, the only instances where he's SLIGHTLY similar to ben is when he hesitated to help charlie when he got hurt during the rugby game and when he hesitated to cut off his friends (tho that one is explainable)
@@danidkg4071 yeah that’s true, but like compared to sexual assault he doesn’t come close yk, and him not helping him and not leaving his friends i think it also shows that he’s a teenage boy, like that he’s human and not 100% perfect bc that’s unrealistic, but that’s just how i see it
100% The biggest difference is that Nick doesn't really treat Charlie any differently in public versus in private. The only difference is whether they kiss in front of people or not. Nick is still loving, kind, and clearly adorning Charlie even around all his friends. Meanwhile, Ben refused to even hang out with Charlie at his house.
It's so important bc it's easy to demonize someone for being in the closet which is wrong. Especially nowadays with social media ppl feel extremely entitled to know about sexuality which is really bad for someone who isn't ready to come out. Too many ppl think it's okay to ask someone about their sexuality when it's obvious they don't want to talk about it. Which then either forces someone to come out when they don't want to or lie about it which is just horrible. Because too many ppl think that lying about that is wrong when sometimes it's the only way not to be outed
@@miy4li yup. It's honestly adorable!! Nick grows a beard. Which Charlie very much likes, from what Alice has told us. He is a fan of bearded Nick. 😳🤣🥰
I loved how the entire cast actually looked like teenagers, being so close to high school age. After watching dark teen dramas like "Euphoria", sometimes a wholesome, idealistic teen show is just what you need. 😍💗
am i the only one confused as to how Joe Locke and Kit Connor (and basically everyone else) are supposed to be 14-15 slkfjdflkfs but other than that I thought they looked spot on aaa
I heard the reason why Tao's hair is so awful is to show Tao's rebellion against the above chin hair length rule. he's actually standing in solidarity with Elle even after she's gone, and it's kinda adorable. but you're right, the hairs gotta go 😭😭😭
Apparently the author said it was just to make him look nerdy. Also, it's not really below chin length so doesn't really add up. But I like the theory anyway even though it looks atrocious
@@nessie4215 oh that's interesting I hadn't heard that! I just saw the theory in a comment of a video where Will is getting his hair curled. it is about chin length when straight but it's still worth mentioning!!
It's a headcanon, but it's a super cute take. But, as stated before, they had to do something to make William Gao less attractive somehow, bc that boy is handsome! No one would believe he's an outcast otherwise lmao
I really loved how diverse the entire cast was, and that they ACTUALLY used the word "Bisexual", not just vaguely hinted at it. Charlie and Nick are too cute for words, and hopefully there will be more Male Bi representation in the media. 💗💜💙
i think a big reason is that it's on the cornier side. it's cute and def good for really young people (12-16) to help figure their sexualities out. but it's not the kind of show that people normally watch, there's not cussing, physical fighting, sex, drugs, alcohol, etc. not that there's anything wrong with that, i liked the wholesome aspect of the show, but it's not hard to believe that some people would find it boring
This show had me crying like a baby, it's so innocent and adorable, i wish i could've had more relationships like this growing up, it would've helped me understand myself without having so much internal conflict... I'm happy younger people have this show. So yes, it really is that good.
It's wonderful that younger generations have access to content that can potentially contribute to a more positive and introspective journey of self-discovery. 🌈💖
Trin: It's a CUTE show! Everyone who reads the comic: jokes aside, you should give the comic a shot, it touches on heavy subjects, is extremely relatable, sweet, funny, sad, the list is endless.
I loved the comic books they were pretty euphoric, but at volume three and four and then reading solitaire I had to take a break. I have really bad boundary issues where I take other people’s burden on as my own, and my personality is very similar to Charlie’s. Reading about Charlie’s struggles that were kind of extreme versions of my own struggles kind of was bad for my mental health so I had to take a step back, but watching the show gave me a really cute reset and I just love Alice Oseman sm.
This show literally made my heart stop. The comic is so good (HIGHLY recommend reading it btw) and the show definitely does it justice, which makes sense bc the author was a big part of the process of making the show
i loved all the details from the comic that can be seen in the show. from the paper mache heads of their characters in the art room to their bedrooms being literal copies.
I'm fully 29 years old and this show healed some of this sadness I didn't even know I'd carried around for over a decade, from how isolating growing up queer could be. I'm really glad that young queer people have this show right now ❤️
@@Lost_In_Peace Well by seeing the scene where Nick was figuring stuff out. He was reading articles of the hatecrime against the LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY, the suicide rating, the amount of people got kicked out of their family after they came out or got found out etc. Why he cried? First off: He realized how horrible has Charlie been through the bullying Second off: He feels sad that the LGBTQ+ Community is experiencing these. Lastly: Because now the fact that he thinks that he might not be straight and might be part of the community, he realizes that being part of the community is really hard, and to think that he might not be straight makes him sad because there's a possibility that his family, his love ones, his close friends might be against it. It's a scary feeling. When I find out I was Bi I didn't got scared or anything because I've never seen that bad of a bullying against being gay. It was mostly always used as a joke, some gay jokes are fine and some are just straight up offensive and hurtful. Plus I was new to the community at that time so all the gay jokes didn't really effect me as much. But as time slowly goes by it effected me because I started accepting myself and started to be proud. I watch some LGBTQ films, then someone will say something Homophobic and it'll hurt me. And most of those Homophobic comments comes from my friends and family. To think that you're part of the community and people who you love are against it hurts and It's scary. Because how will they react when they find out or you come out to them? Good possibility: They will either accept you, support you and love you no matter what or they're not really gonna be happy about it but they'll try their best to adjust and accept you. Bad possiblity: They will shame you, they will not treat you the same way again, they will bully you, they will kick you out and you'll be homeless etc. So many things could happen, considering that Nick found out in a very young age has a lot of pressure because he was just a kid, having those thoughts is scary, overwhelming, sad etc. It's not only being Bi, just being part of the community itself is really tough and you'll just have to fight back and get use to it. Nick crying also could mean "What did we did wrong? We didn't hurt anyone, we didn't do nothing. Why are they against us?"
i stopped watching teen shows cause it gets exhausting how unrealistic the situations/ ages of the cast is, but this show has really stood out !! i finished it last week and have already rewatched it and am rereading the comic now :) it’s so sweet and refreshing
I wonder if Trin felt it was boring in part because it doesn’t have all the ridiculous stuff of unrealistic shows like euphoria and riverdale that we’ve been asked to get used to
i think so, and it has some “realistic” drama but the point of the story isn’t for shock value like euphoria was, just a sweet slice of life story about two boys in love (and lots of representation!!)
I totally feel you ! Teen shows can sometimes be a bit over-the-top and unrealistic, but this one is a game-changer, right ? It's like a breath of fresh air. The sweet and refreshing vibe is just what we need. Rewatching it and diving into the comic is the perfect plan ! 🌈💖
while i def want more shows w college students experiencing innocent romance (esp gay shows) this feels a lot more accurate to what being a teenager is actually like. i hope other shows see the success of this one and realize not everyone wants gritty dark edgy shows starring 30 somethings as teenagers
Those gritty shows are really starting to make me feel inadequate, like I wasted my teen days (or at least hella uncomfortable lmao). I want a show more accurate to my experience, or at least shows the side that's not always the most dark side of teenagedom. This is an amazing start, and I hope for more shows like this (That DON'T get cancelled, NETFLIX.)
@@meganmcleod6152 I get why you say this but fully disagree. The past two decades have been full if "edgy" teen media and it's exhausting. Teenagers may go thru some shit but the average teen experience is a lot more innocent and youthful than that. Normalize teenagers being what they are: kids. I honestly think the edgy trend in media has caused this phenomenon we've seen of teenagers being forced to mature way faster than theyre ready for. We need more innocence in teen media.
this show just feels like it was made for queer people man. little things like the gay quiz or not being able to say lesbian (bc that would make it too real) or feeling like you have to stick with friends that make queerphobic remarks...all that may sound so silly to straight people but it made me feel less alone. I really love it and as someone who's struggled with disorderd eating, I hope they approach Charlie's ED storyline next season with the same amount of care.
Agreed… though some of us lesbians don’t like the word lesbian because it’s so long… like saying homosexual. Neither word falls easily from one’s lips. There are quite a few of us who prefer gay - one syllable, easy peasy.
@Ross With No Sauce I heard a slur as a joke (AC/DC) and that’s when I realised, but that was back in the early 70s when no one was talking about this and so I didn’t even know there were bisexuals. (Don’t identify with that now because my romantic feelings are for women while I have sexual feelings for both, and so I based the word I choose to describe my identity on my romantic inclinations.)
@@nomoretwitterhandles Why did you censor the word queer? Besides, while obviously people use it as their lable, "queer" is wildly used as an umbrella term for non-straight people
Yeah! When Nick picked up the computer I immediately said "are you doing a Am I gay quiz?" And when he did I felt so seen because I went through the same exact thing more or less at his age
I loved how sweet and innocent it was and I hate how anxious I was the entire time because we’re so used to trauma and traumatic endings in LGBTQ series but there wasn’t a ball that “dropped” it was just wholesome and I hope we get more of that
I completely feel you on that ! It was such a breath of fresh air, right ? The sweetness and innocence of the show were so heartwarming. And I totally get the anxiety part ; we've kind of been conditioned to expect traumatic twists in LGBTQ series. But the fact that this one stayed wholesome throughout was just...ah, a relief ! 🌈💕
20:48 Um…it’s very different. Charlie never had a problem with Ben being closeted, and he even said as much. Being closeted is totally valid. Charlie had a problem with Ben using him, pretending not to know him, cheating on his gf with him, and attempting to assault him. Nick never did any of that. Kinda wild that you can’t see the difference😂
Exactly Charlie of all people gets what it's like to want to come out on your own terms because he was literally outed and bullied severely because of it It's not like he doesn't get it. It's the intentions behind being with him while closeted that makes the difference
@@goobinwitgoober well the way that LGBTQ+ people are treated especially when no one suspects that you're not straight or cis there is a natural fear of that change It is not a negative thing because your entire world shifts possibly for the worst and you never know what outcome would happen specifically for you if you come out each time to every person that matters or whoever finds out especially if you're outedbefore you're ready. That's why I sympathise with Ben on that level alone because it has nothing to actually do with Charlie. It's their fear of the world reacting to who they truly are which is the reality for so many people in the community. It's whether you choose to gradually grow and take your time to prepare mentally for certain reactions when you reveal that about yourself, or take advantage of other people in the community in private to scratch the itch but not actually treat them as human both privately and worse publicly
lowkey thought trin was gonna hate on this show when I clicked on but I'm so freaking glad I was wrong bc heartstopper is the best show Netflix has put out in a while
@@erikperhs_ unpopular opinion: comparing Heartsopper and Young Royals is dumb. I see people compare it everywhere all the time just cause its 2 gay boys in a school realm. The vibes of these two shows are 2 different worlds and for me Heartstopper is perfect, while young royals made me fall asleep during the first episode. Dont get me wrong, watching the whole thing I can say its good, but doesnt give me more than good
@@gaceofspades ok...? First of all: for you it's just good, but that's YOU lol and second: it's completely fair to compare them because they're part of a very specific genre, which is "gay m/m romance". Heartstopper, Young Royals, Love Victor and Skam (season 3) are the only shows I can think of that are exclusively about a gay couple falling in love. If you're talking about a horror movie, you'll compare it to other horror movies. It's just how things works. And for me, Heartstopper and Young Royals are equally perfect in different ways. Heartstopper is more aesthetically pleasing, but Young Royals actors are 10x better. Heartstopper is cuter, but Young Royals has higher stakes. Heartstopper is super important for the LGBTQ+ community, but it's still a very cliché story compared to Young Royals.
@@erikperhs_ with all due respect, i disagree. just bc a form of media can be categorised as ‘gay m/m’ doesn’t mean they can or should be grouped together. as much as i disagree with it, killing stalking is often categorised as a ‘gay romance’ despite it being a psychological horror wherein the ‘romance’ is horrific abuse. would you group killing stalking in with heartstopper simply because they both have a gay couple? i’ve seen people recommend killing stalking before to people bc they asked for gay recommendations. and because of that, i’ve seen people go in blind and be horrified to see that no, this isn’t a gay romance, this is a horror that includes incredibly heavy topics that require several trigger warnings. ‘gay’ isn’t exactly a genre. it’s something books can have in common but if you read and enjoyed something like heartstopper you won’t necessarily like other media of different genres like fantasy, sci fi, thriller, etc just because it’s gay. personally, i would happily read a fantasy with a gay couple but wouldn’t read a horror, even if it did have lgbtq+ people included in it. bc i don’t like horror. simple. gay isn’t a genre and can’t be compared to other genres like horror, which you used as an example.
Saying you were behind them when they kissed in the arcade reminded me of the time that I was in hot topic (when it was popular to go there) and I saw a gay couple. One of them was upset and calling himself ugly and the other guy said “you’re beautiful” and then they kissed. I literally said “Aw” because it was such a sweet moment and they looked at me and I said I was sorry and ran away. I don’t know why I remembered that but yea.
im obsessed with this show, as a person who didnt come to terms with my sexuality until after high school, nicks journey through the show resonated so strongly with me. and the way he acted reminded me of things i said to my exgirlfriend and other conversations i had. such a beautiful show, my favorite piece of queer media.
I'm legit obsessed with this show ! The way he navigated things reminded me so much of my own past convos. It's seriously the most beautiful piece of queer media ! 🌈💖
No one went up to Charlie when he got hurt bc of the rules of rugby. When a player gets hurt EVERYONE freezes so medical ppl can get to the person quickly and assess their injuries. At least that's how it was explained to me by ppl who understand the rules of rugby better than I do. Lmao.
Aha! That explains the difference between the comic (when Charlie gets hurt in practice) and the adaptation (injured during the game) . Thank you for explaining this!
Also, two people are attending to Charlie. They are just blocked by Nick standing in the middle. When you see a close up of injured Charlie, you can see someone behind him attending to him. When he's walked off the field, a medical person holding a medical kit is seen, and Miss Singh is there as well. Two people walk off on either side of Charlie.
This show is the definition of bittersweet. It makes me happy to see queer people getting good representation and being happy on screen but it also makes me really sad since i know that this will never be the reality for me :(
You never know tho…Nothing’s ever planned, whether you’re sure something will always happen or that something will never happen. Unless this is intuition, how can we truly know what will never and always happen? How about, wait and see what happens? Not too optimistic (positive), not too pessimistic (negative), just realistic (neutral).
Nah people can have opinions! I’m not a huge fan of the show because it’s too wholesome for my taste and I tend to enjoy a lot of angst BUT THE WEBTOON APPARENTLY IS DIFFERENT SO ILL TRY IT
@@inkubator320 it's not different per say. It just touches on some dark topics, which we're all guessing will be prominent in the next seasons, as they've already hinted at some.
Does the reactor say this?? I tried watching through ep 3 and I felt like she didn’t get the sentiment AT ALL so I tuned out. Maybe I’ll come back to it.
After near non-stop Heartstopper content, I have learned: 1. Some people hate Tao. I don't get it. I thought he fit in nicely. 2. "Is that Olivia Coleman?!?" said the exact same way by everyone including me when I watched this the first time. 3. There's STILL no season 2 announcement 😕
i think one of the best things about the writing is that there is little to no conflict involving miscommunication. the characters usually say what thry feel/mean before it becomes a whole thing.
the only thing that makes Tao's hair bearable is the headcanon that he grew it out with Elle in solidarity and had to curl it up so he wouldn't get expelled for it being below his chin
Ah, the headcanon game is strong with this one ! That's such a creative take on Tao's hair, imagining it as a symbol of solidarity with Elle. The idea of curling it up to avoid school rules adds a quirky charm to the whole situation. 🌀💇♂
cant wait for season 2/3 to deal with more serious issues like Charlies mental health and ED and watch them grow as people. such an amazingly wholesome show.
I'm glad we got this show. I'm tired of the over sexualization in LGBT media, as well as the sadness. I would've loved to have a show like this when I was a kid, however knowing others will have it now brings me solace.
Completely agree with this. I've always found it so hard to find LGBT shows or movies that I enjoy, because they always somehow seem to be overly sexualized, or just dark and depressing. It's nice to have a wholesome show that is just pure joy and celebrates the small things. Also the cast is just perfect and they all play the characters so authentically. So glad this show was made.
Yeah, it shows his anxiety a bit more in the comics...also body checking can be a big part of anorexia...and Charlie has shown a tiny tiny amount of it but it could also just be him very much disliking how thin he is ( which he does hate it. It a big insecurity of his.) and so is very focused on his reflection in the mirror.
@@AnxietyRat I'd like to point out though that his Spoiler ED is not rooted in how skinny he is exactly, but rather his OCD, and it's mentioned MULTIPLE times. It's just important to distinguish it because there are a lot of assumptions about what having an ED means, and representation is important. At least, in the comic.
@@beatm6948 I never said it was. I said he was insecure about how skinny his anorexia made him become. Which was/is a barrier to them having sex. Which has been said in the comics. His anorexia (like many ppl with anorexia) isn't looks based but ALL about control. I literally said he DISLIKES being skinny in my comment.
@@beatm6948 You're not incorrect. We are on the same page...was just confused as to why it seemed like you were correcting something... I didn't say. Like we are both correct and yet I got corrected unnecessarily bc we are saying the same thing. It's all good. That is indeed a misconception lots of people have on the internet about eating disorders. That's it's all about apperance and vanity. Ppl also have a bunch of misconceptions about OCD as well. But I'm greatful Alice is shining a light on Charlie's type of OCD...because most only think of the germaphobe subtype of OCD where they clean things around them and themselves, obsessively...when there are a few different types of the disorder. It's not just cleaning.
trin saying that the show has good vibes while super monotone and out of it was giving when jules was eating rue out and she was like "its soooooo goooodddd...." im crying 😭
I was SOBBING when Darcy and Tara kissed in Episode 3 and when Nick and Charlie kissed. Just seeing queer relationships portrayed in a loving, safe and pure way made me feel so seen as a queer person. Some people say Heartstopper is a fantasy but honestly, queer people deserve to have romance shows that are all gooey and romantic. Not every show about queer people has to be about our suffering. Anyways, if Heartstopper doesn't get renewed for a Season 2 I will RIOT ✋ (Also Trin, as a British person I gotta say, the party was actually pretty unrealistic. Not enough alcohol involved for it to be a proper British teen sesh 🤣)
Oh my gosh, I felt that ! The Darcy and Tara kiss and then Nick and Charlie ? Literal tears. It's like the show plucked all the right heartstrings. I totally get what you're saying about seeing queer relationships portrayed in such a loving and pure way. It's like a warm hug for the soul, you know ? And preach ! Queer folks absolutely deserve those gooey and romantic shows ; not everything has to be about the struggle.
Accidentally on purpose, right ? 😄 Binge-worthy shows have a way of pulling you in, and before you know it, you've conquered the entire season in a day. 🎉📺
As a 29 year-old bi woman only out to a few friends, this show has been so healing to me. it's healing my inner teen and makes me feel all giddy. also i LOVE the positive lgbtqia representation. it's so rare we see it in that positive light, without cheating, extreme trauma, death, etc. so refreshing!
I totally get you ! It's like this show has some magical healing powers, especially for that inner teen. Feeling all giddy and nostalgic is such a mood. And yes, can we talk about the positive LGBTQIA representation ? It's like a breath of fresh air, right ? No cheating or death - just genuine, positive vibes. 🌈💖
I was SOBBING at the gay quiz scene but also laughing bc its so real and it was difficult but in hindsight its pretty funny like just the fact that i took a quiz should be telling to my 11/12 year old self😭 Also sobbing at the party scene with tara and darcy. It was so beautiful i cant
Oh, the gay quiz scene was a rollercoaster of emotions, huh ? The mix of sobbing and laughing is so relatable. It's wild how something like a quiz can hold so much significance in hindsight. And that party scene with Tara and Darcy ? Absolute feels fest. Beautifully heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. 🌈😢
And I just realized Charlie had a breakthrough when he said he believed Nick because the whole season Nick would complement him abs he never believed him
Even at the very end there was that doubt when he said "so dose this mean we're boyfriends?" Even after all they went through Charlie was still unsure.
What a beautiful realization ! That moment when Charlie finally believed Nick marked such a powerful breakthrough. It's like the culmination of all those compliments throughout the season, and that one instance held so much weight. 🌟💕
Yeah, they are definitely going to delve into Charlies mental health disorders that have been hinted at... as his mental health, unfortunately, does decline in the next couple books. But Alice has also said it WILL still have light moments so it won't be a complete tonal shift. Which is good.
I liked the show and one great thing they did was have a black trans girl just have a feel good experience rather than her story be rooted in hardships and trauma. But there is a very large "but", there's a large overproduction of white mlm stories written by white women compared to any lgbtq+ form of media, yes it good in a way that people (white, cis gays) can see themselves on screen but what about everyone else. And when everyone makes media that represents them, it's deemed less important because the lgbtq+ community values white cis people more.
I found it kinda weird that there wasn’t more conflict about Elle (accidentally) telling Tao about Charlie and Nick. She didn’t mean to, but Nick was still closeted back then.
She doesn’t out him. Tao guesses and asks a direct question. He is her friend. Is she going to lie to Tao. This is on Charley for waiting so damn long to tell Tao. Isaac figured it out on his own too. He just got confirmation from Nick and Charley. Rewatch it and tell me how she could have done it differently. Charley frankly put her and Isaac in the terrible position of knowing but having to keep it from Tao.
@@shannonmitchell167 Yes you are correct she could have said talk to Charlie. But, it is a difference without a distinction. It was a yes/no question. If she answered this way he would already know the answer before talking to Charlie.
Trin: “Nobody would fall asleep with their hands like this (palms up)” Me: *always sleeps with both palms up when falling asleep in a sitting position like I’ve died* 😅😬😂
i absolutely love this show and i love that you have made a video watching it. since i myself am bisexual i have enjoyed this show very much and i laugh every time i see the clip where nick sheds a tear after doing the gay quiz💀 also, ive heard that the reason tao’s hair is that way is because he did it to spite the school’s board about the chin length hair for boys on elle’s behalf when she came out! i thought that was a cute thing to add to his character.
its such an optimistic take on gay romance. 1) we have the nerdy relatable gay (but give him a lil bit other skills and interests to not be tottally stereotypical) 2) we have the "straight"/bicurious, cute, caring, popular, athletic jock as the love interest that so happen to like him back. 3) also straight male supportive best friend. 4) don't forget a diverse friend group. i would've rolled my eyes so bad if the show wasn't so stinkin cute and heartwarming.
The most relatable teenage struggle ! 😅 It's like a rite of passage, right ? Trying to decode those feelings at 14/15 is a whole mood. The fact that the show captures that awkward yet universal experience is just too real. 🤣🌈
For real, right ? This series is just ridiculously realistic, and the emotions are on point. It's like the coziest thing ever ! Can't get enough of those genuine moments that make it feel like a real-life diary or something. 🌈😭
tbh I don’t get why nick wanting to keep it a secret is a problem? he’s in the closet, ofc he wouldn’t wanna share his relationship with everyone. also: i don't wanna spoil anything that happens in the comics but something that bothers me abt the show is the lack of emphasis on what happened to charlie. he got outed before he was ready to have everyone know about his sexuality and it ruined his life. bc of that, he was 100% fine with nick wanting to keep it a secret (in the comics) bc he understood that nick wasn't ready yet. he's understanding towards nick in the show as well and characters do point out that nick doesn't have to come out if he doesn't want to, but it kinda feels like the writers made nick wanting to keep it a secret a bit of a problem for charlie, when it really wasn't. (and yeah, ben also wanted to keep it a secret but he literally refused to look at charlie in public)
It kinda is a problem because charlie doesn’t WANT THAT. He doesn’t want to be forced back into the closet for the sake of someone else and I totally understand that. Charlie doesn’t want to feel like he is an embarrassment to Nick. But I also understand Nicks perspective . It’s honestly a complicated situation but it also goes to show that no relationship is really perfect no matter what the media tells you. Obviously Nick didn’t deserve to be outed tho :D
i love love love this show. i cried so hard over it, especially when it came to tara and darcy. the fact that they stated so clearly and multiple times that they’re lesbian makes me so happy. i’ve grown up with my sexuality being treated like a dirty word and to see them use it multiple times and even discuss the terrifying situation of coming out as a lesbian is just so amazing i can’t believe it. seeing such good lesbian representation is so new and refreshing and i just love it so much ❦
I'm right there with you ! This show is an absolute gem. I had the waterworks going, especially with Tara and Darcy. The fact that they boldly declared their lesbian identities multiple times just hits differently. Growing up with your sexuality feeling like a dirty secret is tough, but seeing them own it and talk about the realness of coming out as lesbians ? It's beyond amazing. That representation is like a breath of fresh air, something so new and needed. Loving every bit of it! 🌈💖
I really love Nicks arc. I was weeping when he came out to his mom because it reminded so much of my own coming out to my mom. There was just so much here that had me crying, and yet feeling happy and content.
I was so excited when I saw you were reacting! I thought you’d love it based on some of your previous reactions :( it just felt so real. At that age it’s the small problems that feel huge. I genuinely felt every emotion and the serotonin hits were like a drug lol! I’m 25 and I feel like it gave me something I really needed. Something happy and pure and genuine!
I was spiraling like usual, feeling lonely, and like I was never going to find love, but after watching Heartstopper, I found out how important representation is. Being that I live in a place with few LGBTQIA+, it was really hard to see myself finding happiness. This show was so amazing to have, and I’m so grateful for this show especially while I’m still young. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
if you liked this you should definitely watch Young Royals, I remember you saying you don't want to but it's so so good, the main couple is very similar to Nick and Charlie but it's also more dramatic and there's higher stakes so maybe it would be more interesting

That's a fan theory. Hasn't been confirmed by Alice... Alice said on tumblr they just needed to make the actor look more dorky. And making his hair dumb was one way to do that, I suppose. Tao in the comics does not have this hair style.
I am a 32 year old straight woman and adoreeeee this show. I honestly think it has something to do with great acting skills on Kits and Joes part. Especially Kits. He made me feel all the things he acted out - true talent right there.

It honestly sounds like she didn't like the show at all. She didn't take it seriously and her attitude was just not it, she was more concerned with making fun of people and making sarcastic comments than with what was happening on screen. i think it’s very important how apparent they made that charlie and nick’s relationship is not the same as charlie and ben’s relationship. because although they were both kept secretive, one was about love and trust while the other was about manipulation thus toxicity to the point where a person feels trapped creating an insecurity that was not charlie’s problem to begin with.

I wish I had had this show when I was younger
Wow. my favourite comment!
I had a hard cry when Nick did the Google search. Being bi can take you by surprise and the fear is very real. They did a great job with that.
Why would you cry about it? It’s kind of silly
@@Lost_In_Peace Cause it's relatable. I was laugh- crying throughout a lot of this show.
First off: He realized how horrible has Charlie been through the bullying
Second off: He feels sad that the LGBTQ+ Community is experiencing these.

Exactly
Charlie of all people gets what it's like to want to come out on your own terms because he was literally outed and bullied severely because of it
It's not like he doesn't get it. It's the intentions behind being with him while closeted that makes the difference
literally. it's sort of sad how some lgbtq+ people can't see this??
@@goobinwitgoober well the way that LGBTQ+ people are treated especially when no one suspects that you're not straight or cis there is a natural fear of that change
It is not a negative thing because your entire world shifts possibly for the worst and you never know what outcome would happen specifically for you if you come out each time to every person that matters or whoever finds out especially if you're outedbefore you're ready.

@@gaceofspades ok...? First of all: for you it's just good, but that's YOU lol
and second: it's completely fair to compare them because they're part of a very specific genre, which is "gay m/m romance".
‘gay’ isn’t exactly a genre. it’s something books can have in common but if you read and enjoyed something like heartstopper you won’t necessarily like other media of different genres like fantasy, sci fi, thriller, etc just because it’s gay.
personally, i would happily read a fantasy with a gay couple but wouldn’t read a horror, even if it did have lgbtq+ people included in it. bc i don’t like horror. simple.

@@agranosclem yeah, the rules would probably not be followed strictly during a practice. But have to be during an actual game.

I was SOBBING at the gay quiz scene but also laughing bc its so real and it was difficult but in hindsight its pretty funny like just the fact that i took a quiz should be telling to my 11/12 year old self😭
Also sobbing at the party scene with tara and darcy.
im pretty sure there’s gonna be more drama in the next season because since nick and charlie are finally together they focus on other things
Yeah, they are definitely going to delve into Charlies mental health disorders that have been hinted at... as his mental health, unfortunately, does decline in the next couple books. But Alice has also said it WILL still have light moments so it won't be a complete tonal shift. Which is good.
@@AnxietyRat OMG is season two already confirmed?
@@minfires7572 season 2 and 3 have been confirmed!
@@Kate-yn9ky yooooo sick
I liked the show and one great thing they did was have a black trans girl just have a feel good experience rather than her story be rooted in hardships and trauma. But there is a very large "but", there's a large overproduction of white mlm stories written by white women compared to any lgbtq+ form of media, yes it good in a way that people (white, cis gays) can see themselves on screen but what about everyone else. And when everyone makes media that represents them, it's deemed less important because the lgbtq+ community values white cis people more.
nick doing the are you gay test had me cry laughing bc i feel like everyone did that. it was like i was being called out
The warblers comment made me cackle, the way you connect things to glee is hilarious
I found it kinda weird that there wasn’t more conflict about Elle (accidentally) telling Tao about Charlie and Nick. She didn’t mean to, but Nick was still closeted back then.
RIGHT
She doesn’t out him.
Kinda ironic, since in the comics Tao accidentally causes Charlie to be outed.
@@jeffrule1648 Unintentional but Elle did out Nick. She could've simply said: Talk to Charlie
@@shannonmitchell167 Yes you are correct she could have said talk to Charlie. But, it is a difference without a distinction. It was a yes/no question. If she answered this way he would already know the answer before talking to Charlie.
Trin: “Nobody would fall asleep with their hands like this (palms up)”
Me: *always sleeps with both palms up when falling asleep in a sitting position like I’ve died* 😅😬😂
I'm your opposite I fall asleep hands clenched into fists
Y'all okay?👀
i wish the cast a very booked future
i absolutely love this show and i love that you have made a video watching it. since i myself am bisexual i have enjoyed this show very much and i laugh every time i see the clip where nick sheds a tear after doing the gay quiz💀 also, ive heard that the reason tao’s hair is that way is because he did it to spite the school’s board about the chin length hair for boys on elle’s behalf when she came out! i thought that was a cute thing to add to his character.
its such an optimistic take on gay romance.
1) we have the nerdy relatable gay (but give him a lil bit other skills and interests to not be tottally stereotypical)
2) we have the "straight"/bicurious, cute, caring, popular, athletic jock as the love interest that so happen to like him back.
3) also straight male supportive best friend.
4) don't forget a diverse friend group.
i would've rolled my eyes so bad if the show wasn't so stinkin cute and heartwarming.
Ok but I actually love Mud/Wtr and have a big bag of it in my cabinet lmao GET THAT PROMO
MAC
Yessss
I actually finished my iced mud/wtr when I clicked on this video😆
Wait we need you to review heartstopper too
BESTIE UR HERE?!
the taking "am i gay?" tests is 100% realistic 😭 i totally remember being around 14/15 and taking those test trying to figure out wtf i was feeling
The most relatable teenage struggle ! 😅 It's like a rite of passage, right ? Trying to decode those feelings at 14/15 is a whole mood. The fact that the show captures that awkward yet universal experience is just too real. 🤣🌈
You towards the end when your meds started kicking in is a like a mood to infinity 😂
The series is so freaking realistic with so many realistic emotions it’s cozy as helll 😭
For real, right ? This series is just ridiculously realistic, and the emotions are on point. It's like the coziest thing ever ! Can't get enough of those genuine moments that make it feel like a real-life diary or something. 🌈😭
It's not a drama show. It's a feel good Romcom. And we don't have enough of those in 🌈 flavors
Good point. It is quite like a rom com. We've just been fooled into thinking it has to be a drama because it's gay.
Bruh are ppl calling this a drama? Lmo
tbh I don’t get why nick wanting to keep it a secret is a problem? he’s in the closet, ofc he wouldn’t wanna share his relationship with everyone.
also: i don't wanna spoil anything that happens in the comics but something that bothers me abt the show is the lack of emphasis on what happened to charlie. he got outed before he was ready to have everyone know about his sexuality and it ruined his life. bc of that, he was 100% fine with nick wanting to keep it a secret (in the comics) bc he understood that nick wasn't ready yet. he's understanding towards nick in the show as well and characters do point out that nick doesn't have to come out if he doesn't want to, but it kinda feels like the writers made nick wanting to keep it a secret a bit of a problem for charlie, when it really wasn't. (and yeah, ben also wanted to keep it a secret but he literally refused to look at charlie in public)
I mean, even in the comic it made Charlie anxious didn't it? It was dramatisized a bit, but it's not like Charlie was completely okay with it.
He was fine with it cause he wanted Nick to feel happy and safe, but from my memory, he always had a nagging feeling about it.
I just love Nick and Charlie so much, the way Nick stands up for charlie is everything :) Please let there be more series
it’s the way i comeback to this reaction every time and the joke about hanna and troye cracks me up every single time
AND CONNOR FRANTA
I was spiraling like usual, feeling lonely, and like I was never going to find love, but after watching Heartstopper, I found out how important representation is. Being that I live in a place with few LGBTQIA+, it was really hard to see myself finding happiness. This show was so amazing to have, and I’m so grateful for this show especially while I’m still young. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Watching the show then reading the comics all within a day span has now ruined my life. I need MORE so I can project into Charlie Ü
“im ruining everything, im a ruiner”
same trin, same
this is definitely my number one comfort show, i have rewatched it FOUR times already lmfao
As someone who’s been reading the comic for years, I think that as far as adaptations go, it’s pretty darn great
I LOVE THIS SHOW WITH ALL MY HEART
Okay. So I think it needs to be said. HE'S NOT GAY. HE'S A BISEXUAL TRIN
The fact that they already got confirmed for 2 more seasons makes me so happy. I literally can't contain it!
No cause I’ve never loved a show more than this one ! I’ve rewatched it 7 times 👏🏻🥺 I NEED a season 2 asap
“showing my mom brokeback mountain and then coming out to her ” at 24:10 is so funny
this show really is everything, i binge watched and couldn't help but scream so many times because it was sooooo cuuuuute!!!!
apparently tao hairs was like that because he was growing it out with elle which i found so fricking cute
if you liked this you should definitely watch Young Royals, I remember you saying you don't want to but it's so so good, the main couple is very similar to Nick and Charlie but it's also more dramatic and there's higher stakes so maybe it would be more interesting
they're literally not similar at all. the only similarity is its a queer couple
@@acailoves curly brown haired gay boy who's a bit of a loner at school meets blond supposedly straight guy who everyone seems to like. The two of them develop a friendship and bond during sports practice and then one night at a gathering where all their peers are they go off alone and kiss. then the blond boy proceeds to be confused and sends mixed signals but then eventually they start dating in secret because he's scared of everyone's reaction and the impact him coming out might have on his life and the series is basically them navigating their relationship while also dealing with everything around them (school, family, friends etc). maybe this isn't how you view the two shows but I immediately noticed these similarities and always mention them to people who have only seen one of the two because from what I've seen every person who liked one of the shows liked the other as well😊
@@thatfatginger i like both but generally they really aren't that similar 😭
@@acailoves the shows as a whole aren't similar but the dynamic between the two boys felt really similar to me, maybe it's just a matter of perspective 😌
I love this show an unhealthy amount and I’m so exited to see you watch it!
i read somewhere that Tao's hair is like that to support Elle and rebel against the school for her having long hair
That's a fan theory. Hasn't been confirmed by Alice... Alice said on tumblr they just needed to make the actor look more dorky. And making his hair dumb was one way to do that, I suppose. Tao in the comics does not have this hair style.
@@AnxietyRat if they didn't give him that damn haircut he would have obliterated all the other guys because he's too attractive
@@AnxietyRat THANK YOU! everyone keeps saying it’s “confirmed” and “canon” but it’s really not, just some cute head canon someone on tiktok made
20:29 is my favorite part. “Im literally ruining the cutest parts” 😂😂
I'm obsessed with the fact that literally everyone has something to say about Taos hair.
I am a 32 year old straight woman and adoreeeee this show. I honestly think it has something to do with great acting skills on Kits and Joes part. Especially Kits. He made me feel all the things he acted out - true talent right there.
This show really was a comfort show for me, my heart felt so light watching it 🥺 I cried a couple times obviously but just happiness tears lol
Being English all the British accent that you did made me laugh so much and now all I can think about is SeAgUlLs this made me laugh so much ty for making such a feel good video to go with this feel good programme
"for someone wearing a toupe, your acting very very bold" OMFG that killed me JBVDJSBV
It honestly sounds like she didn't like the show at all. She didn't take it seriously and her attitude was just not it, she was more concerned with making fun of people and making sarcastic comments than with what was happening on screen.
So sad that such a review has so many views instead of someone who genuinely enjoyed the show and cared for the characters and themes 😔 some scenes were so touching (for 99% of people and reviewers) and she didn't care at all 😔
Love how Tao’s hair defies gravity 😍😍
I’ve only watched two of your videos but I’m in love with your style of video and how much you express your opinion, honestly great work
the instant accent 😂😂 as someone who has read the graphic novels the show is based on and as someone who is bisexual this show and it's base of inspiration mean so much to me and make me so happy 💙
The running toupee bit had me ROLLING 😭
The head cannon around Tao’s hair is that he grew it out in solidarity with Elle growing out her hair during her transition. He curled it like that to meet hair length standards in the school
trin linking absolutely everything back to blaine from glee is my favourite thing ever
“troye sivan just ate connor franta up.”HELP💀💀
I underhand the point you're making at 18:20 but I think as a gay man I enjoy how normal the scene makes it feel. I made out with the first guy I liked at prom in the same way and I fully felt normal doing it. It never felt explosive or mind blowing, it felt soft and normal
As a HUGE fan of the heartstopper comic and Netflix show and a HUGE fan of Trin, this is like a dream come true omg 😭😭
trin i’m gonna cry that you watched this show. i watched it several times. read the books, bought all of them impulsively, read them again and cried and cried and cried some more because it’s just a bit too relatable. thank you for making my little gay brain happy
Ty for feeding us today trin, ilysm
No cause Trin just calling these characters the names of early 2010’s youtubers is my new favorite thing
I tell everyone that, if you look up "am I gay" or "am I gay quiz" bestie ur gay, just looking it up is enough
please hit up seasons 2 and 3, the show matures as the characters age. Tao gets a haircut, they go deeper into mental health stuff, they can swear (especially in season 3), and they explore sex for all the couples
this show was so good to me as someone who relates to a lot of things charlie goes through
