Fun fact: that laugh Grace lets out in the end wasn't scripted, Samara Weaving came up with it on the spot because she felt like it was an in-character thing to do! She's a bad b!tch for real!
Love that , especially cause I straight up LAUGHED immediately after the aunt exploded. Grace & I were on the exact same page 💀💀😂

Imagine if grace was just really good at hide and seek. She finds somewhere to hide and just stays there all night, the family is running around everywhere trying to find her and can't. I lowkey want to see that kind of movie...

Samara's screams throughout the movie are the best horror screams I've heard. They weren't too goofy or over the top, right amount of pain and fear. So good, god she's fantastic.

Okay but like kinda a good thing that she didn't choose a different card... obviously choosing hide and seek is supposed to be like the worst option but if she wasn't the chosen "sacrificial lamb" or whatever she would be tied into the family's crap. Like the next in law to come around who drew hide and seek would have to be killed and she'd have to be complicit in that or else she'd die. So I guess it's good that she ended it all rather than having to make the choice between death and murdering someone innocent like 5 years into her marriage or whatever
I like to think it wasn't by chance, and Grace was always meant to get the Hide and Seek card because she could never be like the rest of them and accept evil in exchange for wealth. She was a better person, and Le Bail probably knew that.

For me, most of the time in media where they have a woman screaming, it either sounds kinda sensual or like she's singing. It doesn't capture the pure fucking fury, fear, or pain that she's going through. When Grace screams, it's guttural. You /feel/ her terror and desperation and I love it so much.
Because most of it lacks the pain element, which is ironic, because women screaming happens almost exclusively in horror media where they are being harmed.

(spoiler alert) the butler is the most disturbing character because in the (somewhat thin at times, in my opinion but i still like the film) class divide allegory the butler is a class traitor - he's a bootlicker brainwashed by his employers, the allegorical and literal capitalists (as in, owners of the means of production) of the story, to have more loyalty to them than to fellow members of the working or middle class. and alex's turn is disturbing but not surprising, which reflects that when the chips are down capitalists always protect their own, they never choose to protect the outsider. he shifts allegiance after he realises that Grace will never be with him, i.e. after he realises that he can't gain anything - love, affection, a family away from his own - from protecting her anymore. and daniel being ambivalent about saving Grace up to the last moment and dying for it represents the way capitalists will cannibalise their own if they step too far out of line in the process of doing the right thing. if someone threatens the wealth and power of the capitalists from within then they must be dealt with.
is it cool if i use this for my extra credit essay?
@@yasminariana2001 absolutely! I’m sure people have made videos and written articles about analysing the class allegory in this film, sounds like a fun essay!
i'll also add if you're interested in the allegory, that (at least imo) there are weak points. fun as the ending is, the family's beliefs being confirmed in the end hurts the allegory a little. it implies that it's possible for the rich and powerful as a whole class (because the family can be read as representing capitalists as a group, rather than just one privileged family) to topple just by doing capitalism wrong, by not managing to maintain the rules, when in fact capitalists don't have to follow any rules - rules for thee, not for me etc. I think it would have been thematically stronger to end the film with the curse not being true, and instead of some higher power destroying the family, Grace should do it - because the working and middle classes have to take power out of the hands of capitalists themselves, there's no higher force they can wait for to punish their oppressors. i think it would be a more satisfying reclamation of Grace's power.
obviously the movie doesn't need to do this to make a satisfying comparison to real world class divides, but i think it would have worked better thematically - BUT, then we wouldn't get the awesome sunrise scene which is * chef's kiss * so good, so 🤷🏼♀️
fuck is wrong with u bruh its just a horror movie
@@sIurz just because you don’t think critically about media doesn’t mean the people making it don’t lmao
it’s not exactly subtle (or even particularly complex) as far as social satire goes, my guy - I bet you thought us was just a horror movie too haha
horror is one of the most common genres filmmakers create social allegory through - reflecting society’s anxieties back at us is an effective way to create horror that genuinely connects with the viewer. that doesn’t stop being true just because you’re not thinking about it that hard, and you don’t have to think about it if you don’t want to. but imo the viewing experience is richer when you do - you might actually enjoy movies more if you did 😉

@@ameliah3496 well, it's probably me just looking into it too much but I thought it could visually show her mental state and red wedding dresses usually symbolize impurity (women who had sex before marriage or adult escorts were shamed by wearing red wedding dresses) so it makes sence practically because it's gonna get dirty but also it could be more idk, also wedding rings are worn on the left hand and I think it was her left hand that got stabbed and hurt. Daniel's standing in the movie is what really made it so much better for me. You can tell that he wants to help her and knows that everything that's happening is _so_ fucking fucked up... yet he's not all "jump in, save the day, get the girl." The decisions he made didn't do anything to make any of the present danger and risk null, just toned it down from a 10 to a 9.5 for _a moment._ The way his character is able to keep the scary, dangerous aspect apparent whilst also including the emotion that a lot of films in the horror and thriller genre lack is what takes this film beyond.

I kind of saw Alex’s shift when he heard what his Aunt had to say about wishing she had killed her husband herself. You see him taking this in, along with his supposed connection to la belle, and it clicks for him. He tries to deny it to his mom, but she sees through him. By the time he’s free and finds Daniel he’s made up his mind. His last attempt to talk himself down is asking her if she’ll stay with him after this - but he already knows she won’t and he already knows he’ll kill her.
Thank you for putting this into words because I was trying to figure that part out! I just wish Grace would’ve explained to Alex that Daniel was trying to save her and that maybe would’ve kept him from turning and they could’ve gotten out alive. But I guess it all ended how it should’ve because every single one of them was wrong from the get go and Grace was the only truly innocent one. But do you think Alex and Daniel would’ve been spared if they stuck with trying to save Grace instead?
@@CLDouglas18 I’ve been debating that myself and I’m still not sure. The movie definitely seems to follow the “sins of the father” ideology - Alex makes it clear that family members who chose to not have their spouses draw a card died the next day - but at the same time it is hard to decide on if, in a case where Daniel hadn’t been killed by his wife, La Belle would have killed him. I think ultimately the answer is no, they wouldn’t have been spared. In essence, the sacrifice is made as payment for the gift La Belle gave them - Alex and Daniel both willingly used the wealth of their family, participated in their evils, and are therefore judged as such. But I can also see interpreting it another way; I love how the movie left it open for discussion.
Peeped it!!!! What the aunt said stuck with him and he gave into the temptation

“This is either ugly or cute” girl you look stunning in white, like the black hair the red and black make up, everything goes super well together. I love it sm
ikr i wish it was linked
It's how Alex tried so hard at the end to make her stay with him has me laughing like he really thinks that she would stay with him after he did that to her it's just sad I wish she ended up with Daniel he was the better one
everyone else watches horror movies: ow that scratch has to hurt imagine the blood ew
me: *she’s gonna get an infection*
SKSKSKSK I was literally like “TETANUS 👁👄👁” when she punctured her hand on the nail
@@nessariguez12 IKR 😂
I said the same thing!!!!!! I was like she’s gonna need a shot 😬😬
Adam Brody waited a full ass decade to redeem himself for Jennifer’s Body
I mean, nothing to redeem, that movie all around was perfection and completely underrated!
@@mowganashwey no I think they mean his character in Jennifer's body not the movie itself.
Morgan Ashley I was talking about his character lol Jennifer’s Body is a masterpiece
daniel sacrificed himself not only for grace, but also for nikolai wolf sins
nikolai was iconic and jennifer’s body was iconic
Wait wait wait, hear me out. When she was going down the stairs, if they switched the chairs to face her to symbolize her leaving the marriage/the union to that family ... chefs kiss 👄
the fact that ready or not is getting its due recognition is so exciting
I love how when the maids die they are just like, "ugh this is such an inconvenience."😂
Little fun fact, Grace was actually killed by Alex in the script. They decided that wasn’t satisfying so they decided to let Grace live and the others to explode
That was a good choice. The exploding was gold.
Wow. That would’ve been awful. A more serious horror movie could pull that off, but that’s just about the most unsatisfying ending I can think of for this movie.
Grace: *smashes a tea kettle into Bernards head*
Everyone: QUEEEEEEEENN
"What happened to you??" "In--laws"
I HATE horror films and yet I LOVED this movie ... 10/10 recommend to anyone who doesn’t like horror movies but wants to watch a “horror movie” on Halloween
YES EXACTLY ITS THE PERFECT HORROR MOVIE FOR ANYONE WHO USUALLT DOESNT LIKE HORROR
Because is not horror. I saw this movie being categorised as a "dark comedy" rather than 'horror', and it makes more sense.
i don’t think it was grace killing his mother that set alex off; like trin says, alex said himself he’d be willing to kill his mom for grace. i think alex found daniel’s body and automatically assumed that grace was the one who did it.
i ALSO think that daniel 100% would’ve lived through le bail if charity hadn’t killed him. there’s a moment before alex dies where grace is given a chance to decide whether she forgives him or not, and only after she makes it clear she doesn’t want him anymore does he die. i think that, if daniel had survived charity’s attacks, grace would’ve forgiven him and le bail would’ve let him live.
even though he told the mom he'd choose grace over her, he didn't actually believe what he was saying. he's been mentally messed up as a child and that doesn't disappear, he was just more self aware than the others.
I feel like the movie would’ve been over if Daniel had actually tried bc every move he makes seems effortless and he just seems like the smartest and most capable of the family members to focus and end it all quick but the part of him that’s good won’t let him
thank goodness~
Me: thinking her outfit is super cute and giving victorian cottage core vibes
her: if you think my outfit is ugly-
me: :(
“I think she loved Daniel more than she loved Alex”
Me, without any hesitation: Oh f*ck yeah without even a doubt.
Update: I’m so glad I’m not alone in this thought. You all did me well tonight.
one of the biggest sad things of the films is that grace chose to marry alex tasteless bland ass over daniel whole ass buffet
Even the dick driving by in the car deserves more love than Alex
i love that when i first watched the movie i thought daniel and grace were the couple at the beginning
@@julianacraven5890 It still hurts that they weren't together 🥺
as much as i ship them, she did actually love alex. she didn't draw the hide n seek card out of bad luck - that was le bail rejecting her because her true purpose for marrying into the family was out of love (unlike charity and fitch who definitely married for wordly reasons - ie. fame / wealth / etc.)
not only was he in this movie, the oc and jennifers body BUT also in gilmore girls as the boyfriend of rorys best friend.
a round of applause for dave rygalski
The best boyfriend in the series hands down. The fandom keeps fighting about Dean, Jess and Logan and I'm jus like "have you guys seen Dave??"
@@ceciliabernal3241 I was sad he had to leave the show. Lane deserved so much better than Zach. Dave actually was the best boyfriend (second only to Luke) in the whole series. He read the entire Bible in one night because he wanted to get her mom to like him. He played guitar for her mom's church group. Zach literally didn't put much effort at all into his relationship with Lane. Lane really settled after Dave left...
And in Damsels In Distress!
Thank you 🙏
This movie was pretty underrated yet had such a unique plot.
Holy shit this movie was incredible! And the actress who played Grace can step on me , she’s so powerful and gorgeous
This movie is what joining a fraternity house is like
I'm glad i never joined one.
i-
Loved this movie. The moment when she punches that kid in the face after getting shot cracked me up hard lol
That was so satisfying! That kid was lucky she didn’t take that gun and shoot him back herself
I'm pretty sure Alex thought that grace killed Daniel, since he believed Daniel turned on both of them.
Seeing Grace kill his Mother after seeing Daniel's corpse probably makes him believe she was the one killing him to save herself.
He didn't know that Daniel decided to save her after all, and that's just so sad.
It is sad but it sure as hell doesn’t justify his actions
That movie is seriously so aesthetically pleasing and the acting is just🤌🏻
"It's kinda ugly, kinda cute" *literally looks like an angel*
The outfit is NOT ugly. I personally love your sense of fashion.
Same
Yeah...same here!!!!!
i love this movie and this commentary so much 🥺 except alex didn’t turn on grace because daniel died or bc she killed his mom it was because when he tried to grab her, she pulled away essentially telling him like “naah” and he knew she wouldn’t be w him after all that happened so he pulled an incel move a decided to kill her instead 😭😭
