I’m a woman, disabled, victim of domestic violence and I enjoy Matt Rife. If you don’t like it don’t listen. Laughter is my best medicine. I watch Matt. He tells JOKES.
So you got a military scene of humor! That’s the best way to be. As a vet I completely agree we also tend to joke about things that most people get scared to think or say and take it way to seriously! Definitely right if you don’t like it turn it off and leave people like us to enjoy it! Sorry for your experience but amazing way to stand up for yourself and make the best of it. Next time you’re at a bar and you see some veterans grab a drink and join us you can say anything you want and if someone has a problem we got your back
As a disabled veteran who watched my father abuse my mother, brothers, and sisters, I agree that this guy is hysterical! Nothing short of awe and talent for his ability to see suffering, humiliation, and make something as trivial as domestic abuse ABSOLUTELY FUNNY. Put him on the pedestal of manhood Jordan Peterson says! Even my father was laughing as he kicked my mom's face in with his weathered farm boots. My mom was laughing through all the blood from her missing teeth. It was the best Xmas ever, now that I think about it and the police said it was one of the most terrible cases they ever saw HAHAHAHAHAHA! So funny! Anyway, anyone who disagrees that domestic abuse isn't pure comedy gold is a cuck simp beta feminist.
I have a rare disease that eventually will be fatal. People ask me all the time how I can joke about the things I do. If I didn’t laugh, I would spend my life crying. Thank you for bringing so much laughter into my life Matt Rife
I lost my best friend, wife, 35 years..to Alzheimer's. If I do not live... I may want to die..... Thank you choosing to live. Makes the world a better place.
I was truly heartbroken when I began reading your post. Then, my heart smiled upon seeing that you're a BOSS. You are a beautiful example of smart or means to live in your own terms. This is only your beginning.❤
i’ve been disabled with chronic illnesses since childhood, and i’ve been in a wheelchair for the past 10 years since i became an amputee, and nothing makes me happier than LAUGHING!!! people walk on eggshells around me all the time, and i watched one of matt’s shows where he joked with a girl in a wheelchair, and he wasn’t demeaning in any way whatsoever which was incredibly endearing. btw, the girl laughed her ass off and thanked him for INCLUDING US!!! i don’t go to a comedy show to get upset and defensive. i’m SO glad that you didn’t apologize for what he said, and i’m even happier than matt isn’t allowing himself to get canceled. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wait, So your practically wolverine? I’m talking to BioGirl! I was curious when I read your comment, the fact that you have a sense of humor is awesome!
Im disabled in a wheelchair and i have no problem with disabled jokes or almost any joke. I think everyone needs to laugh at themselves and the crazy ride we're on called life. Laughter is the best medicine after all!
Preech girl😂 I'm a gypsy introvert ..I am literally the best joke ever..here want ur cards read ? Get out my house I need space. Lmfao😂 I'm sorry tho this old guy is so boring I can't watch this I'm just reading comment s waiting for him to shush..n telling fortunes in his forehead😅😮😂
How can you tell the commenter is female? And I DO NOT mean that in a "gender fluid" sense. I ask because sometimes when I leave ambiguous comments I'll get replies that assume I'm a guy. It always makes me wonder.@@ChelseaCouture-cv4pw
Agree! I was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy called Mitochondrial Myopathy in 1992 at age 12. I started attending MDA camp that year, we called it the crippled kids camp! I have the utmost respect for Dr. Peterson and Matt is hilarious (even though I love metal music.😂) I've been prescribed countless medications by doctors that were listed as "toxic" to Mitochondrial diseases and battles a 25 year long opioid addiction. I truly believe "laughter" (and specific vitamin supplements) r the best medicine. In this world if u don't laugh you'll never stop crying. Stay strong Dr. Peterson and Matt Rife💜💜💜

As a severe victim of domestic violence and abuse that continued even during a two year battle with cancer and heart attacks, now with C-PTSD and PTSI… I laughed my booty off at Rife’s joke. Keep up the good job making the world a happier place Matt. If I was your mom, I would be so proud of you! Also, Thank you for making my service animal Daisy so popular when you brought her up on stage with you November 2023 at Sugarland Texas Smart FinancialCenter
every time matt rife talks one on one, it always feels like matt and the person he's talking to are just old friends catching up. he's so comfortable around people, it suits him and his personality very well
Thank you Matt Rife for giving me laughter in my life! I have a rare and terminal disease, I'm a disabled veteran, and I was a victim of domestic violence for years. I have not found a single thing that you have ever made a joke about to be offensive. You're real and simply brave enough to say what others think and would lie to but don't. I respect that you don't apologize for being you. You have the inate ability to make people laugh...that's truly a gift. Keep being you! You rock!
Well, comics are generally pretty smart and think about all kinds of things, and because humor can often be offensive, because you're making fun of something, often normal human behaviour or odd things or society in general, and live in that, you tend to think more or differently about some things. They both think a lot about people, emotions, humanity, life, etc. And people not understanding what he says is a joke are just, well, morons. He touches a bit on it when he's talking about timing too, there are places and times you can say horrible things and they're just funny, but often you have to be quick with it, if you take 30 seconds to think of something and then say it instead of within a second, it'll come over waaaaay different. But still, he's doing a show, it's a joke. As soon as you think something is too bad or ridiculous to be true, it probably is, apparently some people are missing that insight.
I love Matt’s comedy. It is refreshingly honest and funny. I am a 70 year old retired teacher and haven’t enjoyed a comedian since George Carlin. Matt is my favorite and I watch all I can. Can’t wait for him to tour my city so I can go sit up front.
I was a nurse most of my life. Im disabled now. We who survived nursing, did it with some rauchy humor. Because we worked with ppl who were sick n unhappy. This guy makes me laugh, even when he makes fun of my disability. Thank you Matt!!
Retired nurse here. Nurses are the WORSE! I was a young Christian virgin and was apoplectic in nursing school. I have the worst potty mouth now! You can’t see what we see without laughing.
I hold 1 Doctorate, 2 Masters, 1 Bachelor, 1 Associates, and 1 High School diploma in fields that deal with human behavior. However, I've also become totally disabled. Yet, Matt's humor is everything I wished I could have said!😂😊
Not only is Matt hilarious, he comes across as so genuine and unapologetically real!! He NEVER EVER comes across as an a-hole. Although his jokes and banter with the audience is oftentimes what an a-hole would say, someone who is being an a-hole doesn't receive standing ovations!! He is human. He is a man. He is real and NEVER seems disingenuous. What a refreshing concept in the "Karen" world that we live in these days!! I watch him for a number of reasons, the same reasons that, ( I am certain), the majority of his female fan base watch him. First and foremost, as humans, we prefer to enjoy beautiful things!! Maybe it sounds shallow, but it is true and "Matt" is definitely beautiful!! I remember when I first saw Ashton Kutcher and I thought,"how gorgeous!". My very next thought was, "wait.... he is funny too?! How refreshing!"! Gorgeous people, more often than not, come across as so unrelatable; not Matt Rife!! When I first noticed him, my initial reaction was lust, (my gosh, he is absolutely "Brad Pitt", gorgeous!), but before I knew it I was laughing my a** off!! It is a guarantee that when I watch him, I am going to laugh, (usually until I hurt)! I know that I am going to feel much better after "CHOOSING" to watch him, than I did before!! What more can I ask for from my entertainment "CHOICES"? Also, enjoying him is absolutely just that..... a choice!! I choose to enjoy him. If you find him offensive, choose not to watch!! I suggest that you take your progressive ass to the view and implode with the show!! Keep it up Matt!! You are awesome on so many levels!!
BTW I’m so confused by this world. These entitled people who are demanding comedians to apologize for doing their jobs are the same people who will ram their shopping cart into your grandmother while on their iPhone and say nothing. I’m so sick of this behavior. I wish more public figures would start taking a stand like Matt. And by taking a stand I mean grow a pair!
This is the best interview I've ever watched in my 64 years on this earth. If you don't like something you see or hear, change the channel/station or turn it off. Don't go.
@@OS-yg9fr*More. I respect Matt for actually standing up to woke virtuoso's who think they have the right to strangle people intellectually. He's also hilarious. You are a pathetic, apathetic person who needs to unplug. Using the term NPC unironically is indicative of brain rot.

Funnily enough, comments sections on Instagram, Tiktok etc have drastically shifted from 12 months ago, where now people have stopped buying into the far-left speech control agenda and so on. It’s very promising.
61 year old in a wheelchair dmestic survivor love your comedy matt keep it up. i especially love the crowd work w disabled people, its the jokes we tell ourselfves to each other the questions are great its something most people wouldnt ask or say but in a very funny way.
I love that comedians are just so relaxed in front of Dr. Peterson, they don't feel pressure to match the intellectual atmosphere and just speak to one of the most prominent minds of our generation like a friend, and in turn relaxes Jordan so we can see more whimsical and funny side of him. Hope more comedians come to Jordan's podcast to both heal themselves and help Jordan heal as well.
that's pretty much the job of a psychologist. I'm not knocking Peterson, I'm incredibly happy that the internet lets us see very valuable people who'd normally be locked in a room with patients or other specialists.
I’m a wheelchair user, chronically ill and watching matt makes my day better. People need to see comedy for comedy and relax a little. Some of us need to deal with our problems through comedy.
This collab is something different, Matt is like a Jordan's kid just listening and learning from him, and Jordan listening to his kid about his world. So special
Kudos for not apologizing. The day comedians can't tell a joke about a particular issue (which, by the way, we all do every damn day), is the day comedians stop trying to make us laugh. What a sad day that would be. Keep doing what you're doing. Real people love you man! And thank you Dr. Peterson for being real!
But a joke is meant to have a punch line and be funny u can’t just say sentences that are off putting and call it a joke and when someone says it didn’t land u do the “so nobody can even joke anymore” or “everything is offensive nowadays” and accept the fact that maybe it’s not that good of a material
That's the thing. He probably does. If he didn't then the offended would have some traction as him being a horrible person. But he probably does and doesn't think domestic violence is okay or yada yada yada. It really drives his point of just being comedy and take a joke
yep, dunno what is wrong with the audience these days. TBH I don't find that DV joke funny, but there r other jokes that make me crack. It is like what Matt said, choose the jokes u like and ignore the ones u don't! Audenice can shut down a comedy for not being funny, but not being racist or other shits.
Theo Von has the same effect. The discussion is more relatable and natural when broken up with humour to break the seriousness Jordan brings into conversations. A complementary jinyang.
Women can make a whole carrier out of bashing men, main stream media can president hitting men as funny No one has issues with that I’d just really like these people to not be so one sided If you are upset when people LIGHTLY make fun of women why don’t you get upset for men to
I was in a DV marriage for 15 years. Nothing that Matt said offended, nor triggered me. I love Matt Rife. We all need to laugh. Laughter is the best medicine!
The Black Eye Joke Was Corny and Very NON Offensive...Women Say WHATEVER They Want About Men and Treat Them Any Way They Want and With Zero Negative Backlash...They BRAG About USING Men Because it is The NORM These Days
It is!!! It is like aspirin for my fever, aspirin for nausea, aspirin for tummy ache. The only thing is doesn't seem to help for, is my compulsive masturbation... Although it must look awesome while doing it with the 10 tablets stuffed in my cheeks - the competition being which happens first - Asprin dissolving or the big O..
Two men no one ever thought would meet, much less strike a balance between therapy and humor. It takes complete openness of spirit as well as just plain intelligence and complete self awareness. Great exchange, great conversation. So enlightened and needed. Thank you masters of your own universe, Jordan Peterson & Matt Rife. Thank you gentlemen!
I was reminded of a friend that was at the time living with stage 4 pancreatic cancer for about 3 years at this point. A birthday party was being held for him so as a gift I gave him a stuffed pancreas and when he opened it he ran around shouting "I HAVE A NEW PANCREAS!!!". It was hilarious.
@@manga3040living three years with stage four is miraculous in itself. My best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was given 9 months…he lived seven. Such a great guy gone far too soon!
He is never malicious. As a disabled woman who has been through hell and back again I love his fresh style. Although he will make jokes he does so on some kind of empathetic level which takes real compassion and skill keeping us laughing . A genuinely lovely guy who would be welcome in our home any day of the week. So anytime you're in Glasgow Matt Rife you'll get a warm welcome here. We tend to be thick skinned here with Billy Connelly being our beloved non-pc National Treasure and we can can give as good as we get! Sending love to you Matt for brightening many a dull day!
@Mattrife033 Hello from Glasgow my lovely! How amazing are you for taking the time to respond! I'm all the better hearing from you thank you! Keep up the non-woke banter that is honest but heartwarming too. You'd be a welcome guest here anytime, honestly laughter is the best medicine. You make me laugh until the tears run down my legs!! Sending loads of love, Susan. xxx🤣🤭😵💫🤣
I've never seen a 28 year old talk with so much composure, wisdom and clarity. You've raised yourself so well Matt Rife. Damn bro. Tou are so respectful and self aware. God bless you abundantly.
@@Tonytonychopper-lm1kd brother yes your right the bible talks about course jesting or joking however my point was he is highly skilled and has mastered his craft and he is empathetic at the same time. That's what I was admired.
I think Jesus should spend his time trying to stop domestic violence and not worrying about jokes about it. Seems like a better use of his all mighty time and power don’t you think?
My grandfather told me numerous times when I was growing up, "If you don't laugh, you'll cry." Laughter is the best way to deal with tough times and I have lived my life by it!
Agreed. I don't find him funny, but I am kind of a comedian snob. If I can anticipate the premise, it kills the funny. He's young, I'll try him again in a few years.
@ellencox8415 I'm not a Matt Rife fan either. But I love that he isn't bowing down to the mobs. Comedy is meant to push boundaries, make you think, and laugh while doing it. I support his stand but I honestly don't watch any of his comedy. The few clips I've seen didn't have me laughing out loud like I want in a comedian... kinda like the Dane Cook of this generation. A good looking guy full of personality telling meh funny stories.
I love them both! I saw a clip of Matt's interacting with a couple of deaf people in his audience and it is one of the funniest acts I have ever witnessed. He treated them the same way he treated the rest of the crowd- no pettiness, no walking on egg shelves, just simply funny. Hands down.
This is the best piece I've seen lately. I happen to love Matt Steven Rife's comedy. I've never seen Jordan before but I can tell by listening to him that he's very intelligent and well spoken. Excellent exchange. If people can't laugh it's their problem. Life is too short to be negative or complain. I agree with Jordan you never apologize when you know your intentions are pure. Don't worry about it MSRife you've gained more fans than you lost. 🥰🌞🌴 Keep smiling and 🐝 kind. Always, Angel in Florida
Thank You For This Interview Jordan ! Matt IS BRILLIANT , i'm SO SICK OF THE OFFENDED CROWD . The Tribute Matt Did For His Grandfather Made Me Cry It Was SO SWEET ! He is Not A Bad Guy & He Is YOUNG , 2 Things THEY HATE , & HE HAS REAL TALENT , Something THEY ARE JEALOUS OF . THEIR OPINIONS DO NOT MATTER TO REAL PEOPLE .
Dude,I’m 65 years old and absolutely love your shows.Imagine what another great comedian “George Carlin”went through.Loved him too.Great opportunity for you to show your intellect and mastery of your craft to go on Jordans show.Well done sir😎🇺🇸
I'm 76 he is so funny, I love most not all but more then not. He is so natural, quick and witty. I laugh so loud, my neighbors are so surprised. I would never share him except for 2 people I like. One is 45 other 80. I go on laughing and feel smug. Thanks Matt.
This has the vibes of a teacher holding back his student to talk about his bad behaviour in class but they both actually find they have lots in common and have mad respect for each other 😂
"Making light of a very dark serious thing", is also a form of a coping mechanism. While serving with the US Army for 7 years, we all joked about the most horrific things, we had to. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to function properly. Great vid. Thanks guys. Matt, I'm 58 and I find your humor hilarious. :) :) :)
Absolutely true. You will hear the darkest/funniest jokes ever in a combat zone... even leading up to a deployment it starts getting worst and worst. Thanks for your service bro
@@Amaru220 in my mind, the same. In medicine and war you're dealing with death and destruction. I don't think we called it anything when my ex was going thru the exhausting and traumatic process of medical training, over 40 years ago. We just laughed!
Matt has the best, most interaction with "different" people when he does crowd work! There is always going to be people envious of others success! In the times we live in today, support each other! BE KIND! One of the greatest interviews I've ever seen! I applaud both men!👏👏
I wasn't a huge fan of the special myself, but I commend Matt Rife for sticking up for himself in a comical way. Doing comedy for the sake of comedy and not being apologetic for it.
100, not a big fan of this special but love just about everything else from him. Not that I'm defending the complainers but I had an issue with that particular joke as well....if I beat u to the punchline of a joke and u open with it? That's a cancellable offense in my book 😂

Yeah, it's as Matt said, he is only 28. Thing is, I don't really know any 28 year old who is able to present something, whether it's science, art etc etc without heavy criticism. But also it's not something one should apologise about. Making mistakes is not something people should apologise for, unless it's done with the intent of hurting or it could quell potential anger amongst your peers who do not have malicious intent
Im a person with a disability and I thought Matt’s “apology” was hilarious , because he didn’t pander down to cancel culture and he also raised awareness to a real website that actually sells special needs helmets.
Exactly, I went through a horrible relationship of DV and I laughed at the first joke! I also found the apology hilarious! People need to grow up. I don't see how they made it through highschool!
@andyvettel4375 tasteful according to who? The joke police? Assuming that your sense of humor is so superior that you get to decide what is funny or distasteful means you are ridden with narcissism. Get over yourself.
@@andyvettel4375 Making mistakes is the Human experience. Most moments of creation aren't popular or known, but they still want to give it a try. Do you think the world would be a better place if, as individuals, we did everything based on considering what everyone else wants you to be, or by discovering the world with trail and error?
I remember being at my vest friends' Dad's funeral. It was a sad day, lots of emotion, heartfealt Eulogies, everything youd expect. Toward the end of the night, during the reception, he and I and a few other guys were planning a weekend trip for the summer, and my best friend says "the good news is, now im free Father's day weekend!" It was hilarious, of course, but the thing is it doesnt disrespect his father's memory, or the seriousness of the moment. Its an indication of our resilience, that we can endure tragedy and even do it with a smile
Yep. And these same people crying about a comedian making a knowingly facetious DV joke are all too often the same ones who directly and seriously argue against the culpability of literal hate crime first degree murders and kidnappings of Jews by Palestinians. What an absolutely farqd moral compass and deranged mind you have to have to hold these 2 views at the same time.
Thank you Jordan Peterson for being sanity in an insane world. And thank you Matt Rife for not selling out when most would’ve. The world needs more people like you both 🙏🏼
He specifically is selling out. He alienated his audience and now he has to chase the lncel teenager audience by latching himself onto JP's wagon of pandering to that demo. He'll just go all in on the edge-lord "funny because it's offensive" while not being actually funny style of comedy, and transform his brand into being a victim of cancel culture.
When my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer, we shed tears for a day or two and then we laughed, and we haven’t stopped laughing since then. Humor has made all the difference.
Absolutely.. I am dying and I laugh everday with my son.. we joke about it all of the time and if people overhear him saying ‘JUST DIE QUIETLY’ when he’s at the supermarket shopping for me and we are on the phone, people are SHOCKED hearing it.. but I am LAUGHING my guts out.. because the FACTS ARE we all die.. and it’s a total waste of precious time being miserable.. and I choose to be happy.. and I talk to my son all of the time when I remember something I want him to know before I die.. life lessons or where my will is.. 😂 I laugh everyday.. because I live in reality and don’t feel sorry for myself.. ❤
I am a survivor of DV and am now disabled with panic disorder, high anxiety and social anxiety from life long abuse. The roots of abusers in my experience is every single one of them were NARCISSIST'S and their favorite public persona is to defend the very things that are in their favorite and insidious behavior and tools in their repertoire. Love this conversation and the resulting therapeutic insights into my own difficulties was an absolute bonus❤❤❤❤
Matt Rife is hilarious and always makes me laugh. Definitely not cancelled in my world. His comedy is in no way mean-spirited, and he’s shown us in many situations he has a very good heart. Matt keep doing what you’re doing. Your fans will always be there for you!
@@chrisstubing5859see that’s the thing.. just cause you think it’s bad doesn’t mean everyone else does.. it’s called an opinion and comedy can be subjective. Also people have definitely tried to cancel him.. it’s definitely a thing 😂
I just loved this. Not just simply the verbal exchange but their body language in certain topics. Hand gestures, movement in chair, just the pure energy in the conversation; both from Matt and Jordan. It was just a sincere conversation. Jordan making little foot movements when making a point and Matt in return getting into a relaxed mindset to take in that information. Its rare to see this type of interaction.
Ive never seen jordan peterson like this. Like he is having a good conversation with somebody who he is not arguing with and its obvious that he likes this guy. He is having a good time chatting with someone he gets along with

Peterson is like a father figure to me. I learned things that family suppose to teach me from HIM because of his loving approach towards humanity, truth and the knowledge. Just finished Rife’s latest Stand Up, w tears of sadness about his grandfather’s passing, mixed with laughed and both emotional outbursts were equally strong. One of the greatest comedians ever!!! So blessed to have an opportunity to listen to both in one room!!❤❤❤
Matt is one of the best comedians I've ever seen. He is absolutely hilarious. He tell jokes people who take things so seriously don't need to go to shows or watch shows. He doesn't truly mean anything seriously personal towards people. If people cancel him I will literally fall over dead. This man is hardworking and truly talented.
I agree about Matt. I think he's the funniest comedian I've ever heard, and I'm old lol. I grew up with Johnny Carson; I've seen the best of the best. Matt is so clever, he's so quick witted and he's absolutely hilarious. Finding him one rainy Saturday morning turned into a two day binge fest where upon returning to work Monday morning, my abs literally hurt. (More of a reflection of Matt's unmatched sense of humor than of my not-entirely-weak abs lol). I'm in quasi decent shape; Matt is just *that* funny.
When my young brother was dying of cancer he made funniest and darkest jokes about his situation. He was a warrior with a kind heart but also a MF with the strength to laugh at the absurdity of his situation.
Human Beings...society at large have become odd creatures. Its the abundance of comfort that is afforded to us in this modern era that allows behavior like this.
I’m LITERALLY watching an hours worth compilation of Matt Rife doing crowd work, and it is frikkin GLORIOUS. I’ve been watching comedians for years - even the ones before my time (80’s and 90’s) - and I genuinely believe Matt is at the top of the food chain.
His crowd work I loved the best was when he told the audience ~ "if you all had brought more black friends this wouldn't have been so awkward for you". Loved it!!!
I don’t know where I have been the last 400 episodes, but Dr. Peterson, you are HANDS DOWN the BEST interviewer I have ever watched! I was absolutely delighted watching how engaging, analytic, and charming to you were with Matt. He was captivated by your conversation, and to keep someone as quick-witted as he is off balance and expectant was a true art form to watch. Genuine and honest. I just LOVED this interview!
Matt looks genuinely interested when Dr. Peterson talks. He doesn’t interrupt, he’s not rude, and he doesn’t try to out do Dr. Peterson. Great dialogue gentleman.
I also really enjoyed the pace of this conversation and their patience with one another. Never been a huge Matt Rife fan, but seeing him refuse to apologize for comedy makes me respect him more. Hope he does well and comes out of it all on top.
Because Matt is smart and not an emotional mess like anyone who disagrees with Peterson. 99.9% of ppl that disagree with either of these 2 are frail, emotional wet blankets.
It’s amazing to see how Jordan speaks to Matt and how much of an amazing conversation this is, I’m 27 and I still am surprised when people put down Jordan Peterson based on his misrepresentation by the media. You are an inspiration to us younger people who have open ears and open hearts
I love Matt Rifes humor and I'm a woman and laughed at that same joke he got "cancelled" over. I don't blame him for not apologizing and commend him for that as a comedian. He's such a smart comedian and he's got a huge future ahead of him. ❤
The only reason Peterson is hard to keep up with is his spouting off novels worth at a time of stream of consciousness nonsense, and his inability to just ask a simple, streamlined question that gets to the point.
This young man it’s incredible. Intelligent, well spoken and has his life together. I Love his confidence . Matt don’t let the minority get to you. You are amazing.
Can we just applaud these two for their ability to speak to almost ANY kind of personality?! Absolute brilliance. The fact that these two crossed roads with the most respect, without shifting character, and being so expressive and communicative, was amazing. A fantastic interview!
I am close to 60 years old and I have seen greats like Fluffy, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinnison, George Carlin, Steve Harvey, Carrot Top, Wanda Sykes , Eddie Murphy and so many others in tv shows, Netlfix etc.. Matt Rife is in my top 3. Very relatable, respects his audience, has a great time and spends time with the audience afterward for pictures or whatever. Why would you want to cancel such awesome entertainment? Good luck Matt!!
I don't believe this has anything to do with what Matt said at all. He could have said "the moon is going to fall" and they would have attacked him. It's all about attacking our free speech. Turn your back on anyone who is so hateful against our country and our Constitution and what it stands for! The less we acknowledge these haters, the sooner they will get the message.
This feels like therapy for people that treat comedy and jokes as a coping mechanism. Noticed it when I started losing people in rapid succession, when shit hits the fan I make jokes and many times they are dark af, self degrading and random. Feels good to realize that’s not entirely a problem and there’s many others like that. Also Matt Rife is an amazing debater as I can see
It's funny when you think about it. Certain people will have life issues and use it as a way to put others down by saying they can't talk about it Like that. But the people who makes jokes many of times have dealt with the same experiences and are trying to not be a victim and control the emotion. Yet they are told their way of life is incorrect and those kinds of people shouldn't even exist. How is walking on egg shells and being a complete tool of a person the better way of dealing with it?
No. You are a gem. You lost people who are too enveloped in themselves. Dark times are when comedy shines the brightest. I was the same person for my family. Dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and while everyone visited him and would spend the whole time crying and sad (Don't get it twisted, I was equally depressed and hysterical... just in the shower), I made it my job to come in with a new joke and try and put a smile on his face. This was YEARS ago and my family who would make comments like, "Is this really the time?" have come back later and said the only good memories they have of that time was when my dad would light up to hear my stupid cringe joke I had brought to him.
My mother died in January of 2020. My younger brother and I had always been very close, hanging out, living together at times (as adults). Our childhood was a teeny bit messed up. Bit I digress. So, mom is in the hospital, we know this is the last time, so I decide to spend the night with her. It was sad and actually a little fun. We got to chat and bring up old jokes. We talked about the kids. I'm really grateful I spent that night with her. Next day my bro and SIL come to the hospital, visit for a few hours, then the three of us say goodbye to my mama, and we head to their house so I can eat, shower, etc. On the way home, my brother decides we need some musical therapy, which we all agree with He picks his song, we cry a little. Then he says, "Hey Manda, pick a song.", which my SIL (JOKINGLY) responds with, "Uh what about my turn?!" Because normally, he would have asked her first. I'm still cringing a bit about what I said. "Gosh, Rena, YOUR mom isn't dying!" She immediately apologized for saying it which of course caused me to apologize because I was also only joking. My bro realized it, because I would have never seriously said something like that to anyone, much less her (she's such a sweet person)! But, my mama wasn't truly near death before either, so I suppose she wasn't 100% sure. We did all have a laugh about it but it wasn't until I was sharing it later with our older brother and his wife and they didn't see the humor that I realized, wow, lil bro and I may have more serious issues than I realized! I didn't mean to write a novel, your comment just kinda hit home. It is nice to know we aren't the only messed up ones out here!
@@amandabriscoe6578 I shall reply to your story with another one. I had two of my friends commit suicide in the same week earlier this year. I told a lot of jokes during that time and my favorite was actually one my friend told. I was out drinking at the end of the week and I told her and one of the first thing she says is “they may not know each other but they both know you, maybe you were the problem”. I had to give it to her even tho I hated her a little bit for that one it was not that bad of a joke
What a lovely and lively conversation! I’m a comedian, never heard of this guy, but I’m quite impressed with his maturity. I’m inspired by the whole conversation to work much harder.
Thank you Dr. Peterson for having him on. He's talked in his shows how much he loves hanging out with people older than him because of the perspectives and stories they can tell. This was a conversation that needed to happen.
I have several autoimmune diseases. Ive lived with pain since childhood. Living with limits everyday. I try to keep complaints to myself unless my balance is off & I may fall I then alert the people in my household. And I have given thanks for being here. Matt makes me laugh.
To start, I’m a Sikh, Indian, and my culture is important to me. Thought the past two years I’ve fallen in love with the comedy Matt Rife tells, it’s quick, witty and genuine, he’s not scripted, he’s a true talent. I hope you get to read this. I saw a comedy skit online that he did where he bounced jokes off a Sikh man making terrorists jokes. It was tough to hear at first cause my people have been attacked being called that before. For a moment I was mad with Rife, but then I remembered it’s a joke, he’s a comedian. While the joke is insensitive it was still just a harmless joke and seeing the fellow Indian man who was in the video happy made me happy. I then mentally set myself as if I wasn’t a Sikh and didn’t know the tension of what terrorism is to the Sikh community then I found the joke decent, not his best work but not hurtful to my being. People need to learn to separate their true selves when experiencing comedy. Sorry for a long comment wanted to share how I almost got offended but took the philosophy of not taking comedy at true value to myself as who I am
You have to know yourself and, I think, be ok with who you are to be able to separate who you are from something someone said, without taking it personally. And lemme say this now before I get ahead of myself, I wholeheartedly agree with you, I think it's one of the main reasons why people these days do get so upset over every little thing, is because they have no real values and they don't really stand for one thing or another- literal fence-sitters. So they don't have the ability to separate themselves, they get personally hurt- like, it's being said only to them. You are obviously intelligent enough to see and do this yourself, but sadly most people aren't.
I think you touched on something important which is taking a step back from indignation about your identity. Whether your identity is black, white, female, trans, Sikh, etc, especially as it relates to the field of comedy, obsession about your identity is something that will only hinder the experience of going for the "ride" that is listening to someone else's joke.
This is a great response. Comedy is a show. An act. And to be offended is just a selfish and egotistical. Unless he targets you specificly sure you can feel how you want but be a realistic man or woman and be bigger than that. Who care how you feel because if it's making people laugh you're spreading a good feeling to a crowd to be honest I don't like being targeted about anything that would bring up a negative emotion but it's a show it's meant to be controversial or something that you wouldn't take politely from someone on the street because it's not real it's just like TV it goes to extreme sometimes because we all have intrusive thoughts that we wouldn't act on but when someone can actually turn any scenario especially something negative into laughter then he's doing the job that you paid to go see it has to be expected especially in comedy it's great that you understand this laughter is the second most treasured emotion that you can share with others . And to push past any personal issue that might feel offensive to you is worth it as long as it's making people laugh only the truth matters assumptions are made by the comedian in his joke it's never personal it's for everyone. Right on man it's good to see that someone can actually take a joke
film, tv, and music don't exist in your world? lmao what comedy recently is some fluffed up para-social garbage and millionaires complaining about being cancelled whilst advertising their almost sold out tour...
And I don't understand how anyone could claim that a "domestic abuse" joke is an attempt to gain MALE FAN(they're more sensitive over domestic, than chicks)?! --I think the fained "outrage" is from the same bitter,self-loathing chicks that don't get comedy; looking for a new target, a "trendy" cause. Any "fans" that easily triggered aren't fans of comedy, they're the ones that enjoy looking at him.
JP has a comedic talent all his own. It's more deadpan and cerebral than Matt's, but they're meeting each other on a common ground for this conversation. I loved this episode.
Low expectations. Same reason why religious leaders, particularly of the Anglican variety, are such a riot. They're so serious all the time, that any crack in the metaphorical mask is magnified.

Comedy is the biggest and first defense for Freedom of Speech in the modern day. We need people like Matt Rife in the world right now. He has more connection with people and community than the individuals who claim to care about victims, yet only work to speak on their behalf. Victims get no help when they can't be heard.
I'm not actively looking for Domestic Abuse content. And without wanting to I saw more shorts and video titles talking about Domestic Violence. Sure, it was also talked about Matt but our focus shifted towards abuse.
@@ejcejc4113 It's not a new fight. It's just the continued fight for the Western world over the past year. People should be able to express themselves. We can't see a problem until it's announced. We document history to remember that we made mistakes and we'll continue to make mistakes, but we need to experience them to remind us what parts not to give power. Civility is a philosophical belief. It needs to be practiced. Anyone who justifies violent reactions to anyone who doesn't agree with them isn't a Civil act. Violence is the action of cowards. Words are the tool of the wise.

The professor and the jokester

I wasn't a huge fan of the special myself, but I commend Matt Rife for sticking up for himself in a comical way. Doing comedy for the sake of comedy and not being apologetic for it.
His Netflix special was lacking, absolutely agree. His other specials were great, and his crowd work in general is amazing.

His crowd work is WAY better than his special but I had a few chuckles for sure
Im a person with a disability and I thought Matt’s “apology” was hilarious , because he didn’t pander down to cancel culture and he also raised awareness to a real website that actually sells special needs helmets.

Great job and great reply!!

I’ve been following Matt for a little over a year. It has been such an interesting experience to watch him grow intellectually, and see him become someone who is not only funny, but very intelligent and see his ability to fight against the absolute nonsense we’ve been dealing with the last few years.
You’re not watching his intellect “grow”, you’re just learning how intelligent he is. If anything, listening to him is making YOU smarter.
I have early onset dementia and am handicapped and I choose to laugh at my problems because it’s healing for me and others.
Thank you Matt for what you do!
Was not expecting to see these two together but I'm all for it. Reminds me of two strangers waiting for a bus, spontaneously striking up a conversation.
That's an interesting thought. 😂
