I think I may have been able to make him think "... Maybe I was wrong."

Kids were exactly as he describes: angry, violent, depressed, chaotic, anxious, etc. I had to learn how to restrain kids to prevent them harming themselves and others. I have two girls, a 3 year old and five year old. Where do I find a school with teachers like Warren? I need my girls and my peer's kids and all kids to learn from thoughtful, articulate, patient, caring, inquisitive and genuine people like him. Warren for what it's worth, you're an immense value for children and I hope that whatever you do you find a place where you can educate them. Forget post secondary, middle and high school is where you're needed the most. Where you have the most good, at net, to give.

@@360Pros Start with you. YOU are the primary educator of your children. Educate yourself by reading broadly and deeply on matters of history, philosophy, religion, and science. Read about different educational methods (The Thomas Jefferson Education was an excellent book - I disagreed with some of it, but I have very distinct ideas about education). If, for whatever legal or practical reason, you HAVE TO rely on state schools or even private schools, make sure you are still actively involved in forming your children's minds through good discussions around the dinner table and reading good books out loud (instead of television!). If you can, homeschool unless and until you can find a school that you can trust with your children's precious, beautiful minds. Passive parenting is not a viable option in today's society; if you're floating with the current, you're a corpse.

This upset me because twice earlier a difficult class challenged me, "We should take down that (USA) Flag down and put up the Mexican Flag." So, it happened again and I told them off, "I defended that Flag under fire and you will do so over my dead body..." and then later"...the last country that tried that got turned into an ash." The confrontation became a scandal with me warned not to exacerbate racial problems and then taking some years I was driven out of teaching. Trying to save my house I ended up in the Bakken. I was eating breakfast up in North Dakota with a room full of Truckers and sitting next to a guy asking how I got into trucking. I explained as above and the room gave me a standing ovation.

The saddness in all of this is the loss to the students. Finding a teacher who can work in a way that helps the students who find it difficult to navigate a traditional school, or even navigate the world around them should and selibrated and even studied to inspire more great teachers like him. This young man should be given more opportunities to take his communication skills to help others, not silence him. You taught those kids nothing in silencing him, but that they were no more to that school than a paycheck. Side note to Mr. Peterson, you are such a treasure.
