My 5.8 l Ford Windsor in my van valves rattle. And it uses about a quart of oil every 10 days. I thought putting thicker oil in it would stop using so much oil.. so are you saying I should just put 30 weight in there. What makes my valves stop rattling do I need a valve job?
My dad, who was a mechanic until the late 1960's, would put STP in people's cars if the engines were burning oil or clattering, but the owners did not want to get an overhaul job. Most times, it would work for a while. He had an large old metal lathe with open gears that had oilers. But he would put some STP on the gears. I was fascinated by the web of strings of STP the gear sets would generate. He would show his customers how the STP would stick to gears.
As far as electonics , i bought a compressor, jump starter , cigarette lighter, phone charger etc. I just bring it in plug it up and charge it. That way my cars electrical system isn't being stressed. Also has 110 outlets on it. One of my friends old cara has a broken speedometer. I use an old garmin navigation system as a speedometer. You can buy a Craftsman for about $85. If you want some serious juice upgrade to a more powerful box. Great when the power goes out.
I never use any of those super thick additives... I use a Philippine invention that is called "Pertua"... it used by a lot of bus companies here locally and I even use a version of it on my 125cc scooter... in the US this may be called "Tribotech" I think... This is good for high mileage engines and should never be used on brand new engines or newly overhauled engines. It actually smells like grapefruit and is not thick... Pertua was invented in 1988, but the inventor was already demoing it in the early 80s each time there was a car show locally.
But the old thick is magic for me van with its bad exhaust. Exhaust runs clean for weeks after a change and stays better than when i dont use it at changes
Back in the day when I used to rebuild engines STP was a curse to my machine shop it would stop up oil galleries and oil returns and it would contaminate the cleaning vats it is garbage.
The Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer is more for big rigs. It even shows it on the side of the bottle. I use it in my freightliner classic xl. You can actually see the rig on the label in the one scene
Scotty, good evening....driving a 2007 Camry with the infamous 2.4 L engine with the defective piston seals. Engine has 180k miles, bought the car used with 40k. It has a manual transmission, thats why I got it with such low.miles in 2017. Question is should I have the piston seals rebuilt or.just keep addidng oil? its getting worse on the consumption. Using 5w-30 Royal Purple since bought it, changing every 5k. Thanks
Definitely rebuild if you're going to have a lot of miles in it. Oil in chamber will damage your air intake and catalytic converter, resulting in higher repair cost, plus the oil you've topped in along the way. You can try thicker oil like 0w-40 and additives to see if the problem still there.
I have had good luck using KYB quick struts on a Camry and an Acura RL, but I only use Bilstein shocks and factory springs on my Tundra trucks and Sequoia.
40 years as a mechanic (engineer) working in certain high end brands, stick to your OEM oil grade for now, if you change it as directed maybe after 250K Kilometers change to another grade, that depends on the condition of the engine. Must be checked by a real mechanic. Kind regards from BC.
I have a 2020 f150 3.5 eco boost. Did an oil change today and at the end I started up the truck and looked underneath for any sign of oil leaking and noticed the catalytic converter had a small hole in it spraying out exhaust and liquid and created a puddle quick. With it being 20 degrees outside here would that just be condensation? Should I be concerned and get it checked out or just let it be? The exhaust leak itself doesn’t bother me unless it could create issues or if that liquid is a concern?
Move to a state in the US that doesn't do emissions testing. Lose the cat and straight pipe it. Or become a dual citizen of Canada and US. Register your car in the states.
Love you Scotty, but there’s no such thing as gravity. It’s a theory it’s weight and density that makes you come down. Nothing pulling down. The helium balloon helium is lighter than air.

Scotty, can I use it in my 2011 Impala, please? Thank you!

I have a 2002 gmc 2500hd 6.0 gas. Bought it used with 36,000 miles on it years ago. It now has 343,000 miles. I use Lucas every time. Still running.
Hey Scotty, love your videos. Hope you're doing well

Yeah I don't mess with those 'quick struts'. Take your time and double and triple check your spring compressor attachment and it is a no issue job.
Great info thank you scotty.
Thanks Scotty my newer car has the charger ports built in 😊
Back in the day, when I rebuilt an engine, I could always tell an engine used STP. The parts had a "glaze" on them. No doubts.
OEM(original equipment manufacturer)is the way to go.
Absolutely! Esp on a Toyota or Honda

Man, that stuff IS thick! Thanks for the tips!

Exactly
Makes sense but why did so many folks have good luck with it?
Well done ...
What about using this additive in a Flathead V8 from a 1950 Ford Custom? All original.
This is crazy. I just recently put new oil for the first time in my TY Celica
Which one of those can be used in a 07' Toyota Tacoma with a 2.7L-4 cylinder engine?
Oil changes go a long way
I do every 3,000 miles.
I do also 😊😊😊@@trevorz86101
Is it ok to do every 5,000 miles? I have 248,000 on my Highlander Hybrid.
@@katielowen
5,000 is fine.
@@paulcoenen7918 alright thanks!
What do you think of Sea Foam gas treatment? Does it clean injectors as claimed?
I want to know too
I'm a bad person, but I still change my oil regularly!
I knew it! Thicker is not always better! I'm gonna tell my wife Scotty said it.
good luck with that.😂
My struts went out on my 17 year old Lexus. We have a lot of dirt roads.
Unless it's king springs or equivalent I always use oem springs with all replacement shocks
The Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer is more for big rigs. It even shows it on the side of the bottle. I use it in my freightliner classic xl. You can actually see the rig on the label in the one scene
Funny, that's not what it says on the LABELING. 🤦🏻
Thank You Mr Kilmer 🙏👍🐕🦺🇺🇲
I put those on my cherry 93 park avenue big mistake rough ride and squeaking wish i kept the originals.
I put pancake syrup in an old brigs and stratton to seal up the rings worked like a charm.wouldent recommend dumping in your car though.
I put engine oil on my pancakes
My keyfob wasnt unlocking my car unless i was standing next to it I unplugged all my chargers and i could lock my car from the house again
Thank you for your knowledge and character 😁

Hi Scotty
I'm on my 3rd oil pressure sensor thanks to that Lucas crap
So Lucas wore the main bearings and now no oil pressure?
My car's life span is like Scotty's: RIP, then back to life. RIP, then back to life, etc.
How many miles have you actually put on that Celica in the last 10 years ?
The best way to have rest of mind about your car, is the manual transmission. It will run forever.
Don't you pick on my MMO!
Thanks to you, I don't use these adapters ,I have 3 powerbanks to charge my phone and I just plug them into the house to charge them up as needed

Mr Scotty sweating a lot . 😅
Don’t buy Chinese made anything. I used Monroe quick struts on my 2003 Celica and they rid perfectly
Use prolong engine additive never have had any engine problems. 1992 Honda civic 249,000 mile on it when sold. Still running
If you drive a common rail diesel, you need to use a fuel additive, preferably at every tank fill.
I don't plug anything into my vehicles, I don't even have a cell phone.
