The most realistic part of this movie was Ultron spending one (1) minute on the internet and concluding that humanity is beyond redemption and must be destroyed.
One of the reasons Quicksilver dies in this film is a character rights issue. Fox got the rights to all things mutant from Marvel. At the time of the deal (late 90's) in the comics, Quicksilver and Wanda were mutants, one of the many children of Magento. On the other hand, they were better know as being members of the Avengers. So, Fox and Marvel decided to split them up. Quicksilver would be in the X-men cinematic universe with minor mentions of Wanda. Wanda would be in the MCU with this exit of Quicksilver. She fit better and had more potential for storylines in the MCU as they could explore her magical side in ways Fox was not allowed to do as well as her relationship with Vison.
Haven't seen the show but I'm sure it's a huge reason that got Passed the role. He did a sublime job as Ultron and can't wait to see him lose to the avengers again 😅😅
Fun fact: Spader was so intense and compelling that the other actors had trouble looking at the tennis ball mounted above his head (to mark where Ultron's face should be), Elizabeth Olsen in particular kept looking at his face (where Ultron's crotch would be)
(my theory) The reason Ultron is so prone to fits of anger is that his emotional intelligence is very stunted. He has massive traditional intellect due to his computational power, but emotionally he's a toddler.
First reaction I've seen where somebody noticed that the guy piloting the helicarrier was the same guy from Winter Soldier. 🙂 (That's one of my favorite things about this movie.)
She’s so sharp. It’s always great when reactors really pay attention to the material. Having watched a lot of reactions, I’ve come to realize that it’s rare to get the right mix of characteristics to be a good reactor. I definitely appreciate the folks, like these two, who do it well.
I still laugh at the hypocrisy of Fury criticizing Stark about Ultron when Fury is the one who was arguing for the need of creating weapons out of the Tesseract.
Fury would probably say that he was acting on behalf of the World Security Council, but after the end of the first Avengers movie, we know in what regard he holds the Council’s decisions.
I think Fury learned his lesson after attempting to make weapons out of the tesseract and then attempting to stop threats with the aircraft destroyers in Winter Soldier, and was hoping that Stark would’ve learned by seeing him. But Stark needed to make his own mistakes as well.
Great reaction to a great movie! Hawkeye was always my favorite MCU Avenger, but I liked him in the comics I read in my youth too. He is, as you noticed, very much the Avengers Dad, especially with the speech he gave Wanda in the midst of the battle, laying everything out clearly and letting her know what her options were and the expectations for her depending on which option she chose. Very dadlike. I also loved getting to see his family in this movie, and the interactions he and Nat had with them. It's great that Clint's family adores and welcomes "Auntie" Nat. It gives her that place to belong and be loved for who she is, and everybody needs that. And it also was nice that Quicksilver's sacrifice was memorialized when the infant Nathaniel Barton was given the middle name Pietro, Quicksilver's name. Speaking of Auntie Nat, she is absolutely the Avengers Mom. Her line "I'm always picking up after you boys." as she swooped by on the motorbike to pick up Cap's shield to return it to him just underscored that. Such a Mom thing to say. And, as the Avengers Parents, you'll notice that they're often doing all they can to try to keep the bickering between the "children" in the group to a minimum and to try to keep the team working together. I also loved seeing that the regular everyman from Winter Soldier was still alive and still working with Fury's group on the helicarrier. It's always good to see an everyman character with zero powers or abilities being brave, and then seeing that he survived his bravery and is still working hard to do good still. I loved the use of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in this movie, though I hated that Pietro died, though he did go out with a great last line. Wanda was so well done in Phase Three of the MCU as that they gave her insecurities and weaknesses and fears to overcome so she would be a character instead of just making her a cheat code, and she is powerful enough to be that. Clint, Nat, and Wanda are my favorite MCU characters, just ahead of Steve and Tony, but I guess I've always liked the "lesser known" characters best. 😛
8:24 "Deep sixed " is slang for destroy. To my knowledge it originated from ships that would do burials at sea. For a proper sea burial the depth would have to be at least 6 fathoms deep. It also goes along with land burials by having the minimum burial to be 6 ft.
Yes!! Me too! Though maybe they should wait until after Endgame. 🤔Since "Agents of SHIELD" basically exists on an alternative timeline, watching it at the same time as a lot of the Infinity Saga movies can get a bit confusing. They could watch "Agent Carter" now, though!! 😁
I think that while the visions made most of the characters fall victim, in their own minds, to their greatest fears..... that because Thor is a literal god, that the mind control was not 100%. In Thor's vision, Heimdell speaks to him and allows him to think 'beyond' the mind control, and perhaps defeat it. This could be 'actual Heimdell making contact with Thor, or it could be just the representation of Thor's mind breaking itself free from the control. I would assume that mind controlling a god wouldn't be as easy as the others.
Cap´s almost worthy. But at this time only Thor and Stan Lee are fully worthy (Some of Thors family were in the past too of course) Vision is worthy because being artifical he is designed as a pure being.
I think part of it was the general sequel thing… It arguably is a bit more of a mess than the first Avengers… Balancing all the characters and plot was maybe a little lacking… Some people felt the Hulk and Black Widow relationship kinda came out of nowhere… I think some were just disappointed… I don’t know, I forget… I think in the grand scheme of things it’s still a pretty good, fun movie and maybe a bit underrated.
It may not be may favorutie MCU movie but i like it a lot. Sometimes I like it more then the frist but it's difficult to decide because all four movies are great.
It's mostly because there are a lot of things in this movie that set-up a lot of stuff for the next ones, but when this was showing in theaters it felt like those elements felt a bit out of place. And without the benefit of hindsight, or having seen the ones that followed, it really was. There's also the disconnect between the tone set-up by the trailers, and the actual movie.
I think part of it was the marketing. The trailer played up the horror/creepiness and impact of Ultron, but then in the movie he's cracking jokes and the "Age" of his reign is literally a week. He's still terrifying, sure, but the tone of the movie overall is now what I was expecting at all. With some distance, I like the movie a lot more than I did at the time. Some people also didn't like how much of the movie was spent setting up other stuff, but I actually like that, for the most part.

1:10:26 The 'real-life' reason why Gwyneth Paltrow did not appear in this film is her contract for four films (Iron-Man, Iron-Man 2, The Avengers, and Iron-Man 3) had expired, and she had not signed a new contract to appear in future MCU films. Pepper's presence (or lack there-of) will be addressed more directly in a couple of future MCU films.

The vision that Tony had was induced by Wanda's powers yes, but not because she wanted him to see that specifically. She induced a vision based on his worst nightmare. She did the same with the others in a way as well.
I still wonder if she could have pulled this off on Thanos if she’d snuck up on him. If mantis could make him semi sleep I bet Wanda could pull some mind trickery on him. What would his worst nightmare vision have been, I wonder
@@tattycakes2k2 I think honestly, it would be to watch the universe crumble around him. Thanos is quite honest about his belief, he seems genuine. I think he already knows his worst nightmare, that's why he does what he does.
I will keep saying it; Quỳnh has an amazing pulse on the deeper aspects of these films. Her sense of humor is awesome and her attention to detail is fantastic. I really love hearing her perspective on these stories and how much she enjoys them. And kudos to you Nick for allowing her the room to experience these films on her own with no spoilers. Great job all around!
I think there are more nuances to the Nat/Bruce relationship and Hulk leaving than just his not thinking they had a future/could have a family. Hulk and Bruce are 2 different personalities, BUT connected. When Nat pushed him to bring the Hulk because they needed him, it was a little bit of a betrayal to Bruce, and it was Hulk feeling like he's just being used when they need him and discarded other times.
Quỳnh's contribution to the reactions just seems to get better and better with each one she and Nick do. (just to be clear, I'm not hating on Nick. I enjoy his reactions very much, whether he is flying solo OR watching alongside Quỳnh) I REALLY enjoyed this video. Looking forward to whatever they are watching next!
Quicksilver’s sacrifice to save Hawkeye: he was actually saving the little kid. There is a deleted scene from early in the film where he meets the kid and mother in a street market. But omitting that scene works well because it seems like it’s to save an Avenger.
Well, it’s saving an Avenger who’s saving a little kid. The two are fighting through the whole movie, but Pietro sees Hawkeye about to sacrifice himself trying to save a little (Sokovian) boy, and acts. The meeting is unnecessary.
8:22 - The expression 'deep six' originated in the 1920s and it means to get rid of or destroy something. Many people think it's related to being buried 'six feet under,' but I think the nautical explanation (that items that have sunk below 6 fathoms are almost impossible to retrieve) is more likely given the phrasing. 23:05 - Meet the Hulkbuster Armor. Tony's contingency against The Hulk going out of control. 44:00 - This is one of the few moments where Agents of SHIELD comes back to inform the movies. A big part of the 3rd season plot involves secretly building this helecarrier. 53:07 - Biggest c#$%tease in the MCU.
Banner never gets a break. The Hulk is a very sad character, and the more you know about him, the sadder it gets. I like how they showed Barton as the dad of the group. That fits well with his character. And Quynh is just a delight. It's good to have her around. Ya done well, Nick.
To "Deep Six" - definition... To hide or dispose of something in such a way that it will be extremely difficult or impossible to find or recover, even for the person doing the hiding. Get rid of. Nautical in origin, it comes from a call indicating a depth of six fathoms (over ten meters), a depth from which recovery of an item tossed overboard would be very difficult.
Joss Whedon's third masterpiece on the big screen - after Serenity & The Avengers. Many "visions" in this movie, but the most important is the brilliant introduction of Wanda-Vision, I think ;)
I swear I can't say this enough: you guys are SO cute and sweet and funny! I could listen to you talk and discuss movies for hours. ❤ I just love how Nick articulates his thoughts (I could only dream of), and boy, DO I love how smart and quick thinking Quynh is!!! Can one be in love with someone's mind? Cause I think I'm in love with Quynh's. 🤩 Nick, I gotta tell you, you've got the real deal -- she's the whole package. WHAT A QUYNH/QUEEN! (see what I just did here? 😉😆) Also, 43:21 - That moment when you have to go along with the joke and laugh, but you KNOW what's coming next... 😅 Kudos to Nick, he's really good with not spoiling anything for her. 😊
To "deep six" something is to throw it out (technically overboard). The term originates from when boats used to have a leadsman that would measure the depth of water with a sounding line. When the line measured six fathoms the leadsman would call out "deep six."
"They" didn't let Nick keep that helicarrier. He pulled it out of mothballs with the help of some old friends. I can't really explain where it came from, or who those old friends are, in case you do eventually watch the television show I recommended you watch when you got past "The Avengers" movie (it's explained there).
It could be a vision or a possibility future that she showed Tony stark cuz she gave Thor a vision and showed black widow and Steve real things/memories from they’re life’s
she prays on the biggest weakness... for some ppl that's their past for others, it's their future thor : inadequate king, that can't protect the realms and his friends iron-man : that he didn't do enough and wasted his life widow : that she can't escape her past that she'll always be just a killer steve : that he is lost out of time and we'll never get the life he wanted
56:10 Wanda was making each Avenger see their worst fears come to life; For Tony, not being able to stop an alien invasion and all his friends are killed because he could not stop it. For Thor, being responsible for the destruction of Asgard and the decimation of his people. For Steve, the "war" ending and no longer having a purpose. For Natasha, reliving her training in the Red Room that took away any possibility of a normal life. (This topic will be touched on again during the Black Widow film in Phase 4.) We don't get to see what Banner's nightmare scenario is, but likely something to do with the Hulk being truly unleashed. And Clint managed to see what was coming and circumvented it. Wanda's power to do this will come up again in the future.
Qu’ynh has the best reactions I swear she’s so empathetic and spot on. And you guys together are great to watch. Some of my favorite reactors out there glad I subbed!
@@hailee2279 Feminist=Hatred of Men + revisionist=female led assassination training organization + tripe=Something disparaged as valueless, especially written works and popular entertainment...there, clearly defined for the slow.
@@hailee2279I think what they were trying to say is the movie isn't well liked but I do agree they should watch the movie since it's apart of the marvel universe so you'll get more of an understanding about black widow
The outing of the Avenger is so important to their overall arc. Here they're really working well together, we almost believe nothing would split them up. Clint's wife is an ex-SHIELD agent too that's why she's so sharp. You'll learn who she was in the Hawkeye MCU show.
Ever wondered why they killed Pietro right after we liked him? It's because it was written by JOSS WHEDON (Buffy, etc), and that man knows how to mess with us 😂 😂 😂
They do say that AI could eventually just be like, for example, “oh you want me to eradicate cancer from the world? On it.” and eventually reaches the conclusion that well….if everyone is dead no one has cancer…Yey I’m helping 😂😂
Wanda can make them see what she wants them to see. However, in this particular movie she made them see their greatest fears (regarding the future). Literally their worst nightmare about their possible futures. (It is not Wanda's only power btw...and in the comics her "superhero name" is Scarlet Witch - well her whole character is different though as in the comics she is actually a mutant which they changed in the MCU-version of her).
deep-six (someone or something) To eliminate or dispose of someone or something. A reference to the standard six-foot depth of a grave. deep six 1. noun Death or burial at sea. Likely a reference to six fathoms of water being the standard depth at which to bury bodies at sea. Usually used in the forms "get the deep six" or "give someone the deep six."
See, the best thing to do with Hulk on a rampage is something that they *NEVER* do. Clear the area and then leave him alone. Maybe pipe in some soothing ambient sounds.
Capt being able to move the hammer means that he is worthy. I think deep down he knew he could have lifted it all the way but because he's humble he didn't. Remember the hammer is not physically super heavy but you have to be worthy to be able to carry it.
Scarlett Witch taps into fears and anxieties within the person. In Tony’s case, it stems from Avengers 1 when he went through the wormhole. It isn’t so much being lost in space as it was the realization that despite all of his suits it likely wouldn’t be enough to protect Earth when the next invasion came. Scarlett Witch saw this when she prompted the vision which is why she let him have the scepter believing he would create his own demise.
The reason Tony refers to the big “hulk-buster” suit as Veronica is a reference to the Archie comics. Archie had two girls competing for his attention: nice blonde Betty and mean black-haired Veronica. And Bruce has a girlfriend named Betty.
In marine jargon, a fathom is 6 feet. To "deep six" something is to dump it in the ocean many times deeper than that. @16:30 - Ultron wouldn't be here if Tony had practiced basic computer security. You don't connect test software to your operating programs or the Internet. I used to test software for the Space Station program. Our test systems were completely isolated from the Internet because of the risk of hacking or other problems. "Age of Ultron" is a bit of a joke title, since he exists for only ~3 days. Banner: "Where in the world am I not a threat?" - This makes more sense in a later film. @57m - Wanda's powers. Wanda's powers came from the Mind Stone (the yellow one). So she can affect people's minds in many ways. One is to draw out their fears. Another is to control people's minds, like Loki did when it was part of his scepter. The other part of her power is magical. She had natural magic before the Mind Stone, but the stone amplified it to where she could stop a train or tear apart a robot.
The end scene3 where they are at the new Shield headquarters was filmed down the road from me im Norwich at the Sainsburys centre Art museum at the University of East Anglia.
Or burial at sea which is 6 fathoms (much deeper than 6 feet and more appropriate). To deep six something is to bury or dispose of it so deep nobody finds it.
Probably seen over 50 AoU reaction vids and she's the only one to catch that thats the guy from Winter Soldier that didn't want to put in the helicarrier codes.
A little tidbit of information. The voice of Ultron and Digital character is played by James Spader, who stared in your recent movie reaction "Stargate"
You can just look at Wanda's wiki for her powers. Every character of any universe has a wiki and all the Marvel ones have ratings in powers and abilities from 1 (human) to 7 (god-like).
A lot of the debate surrounding Vision and Mjolnir stems from the common public misunderstanding (that is then perpetuated in this movie) that he's a "machine" and we are "alive." In the comics (which I haven't read, but have heard fanboys prattle on endlessly about), I believe it's because he essentially doesn't have a "soul." Although...I think he gets one later, or something? But in reality, we're machines too. The chemistry that makes every bit of us function at all is, for all intents and purposes, a form of naturally-occurring nanotechnology. That's it. That's all there is to it. Whether it's natural or "man-made" is irrelevant. Whether it's carbon-based or (apparently) vibranium-based, is irrelevant. The processes are the same. And so is the result, fundamentally. Vision is as "alive" as any other organism, and as such is judged by Mjolnir in the same way. Vision is worthy...which, he demonstrates many times later on.
"What does deep six the data mean?" The phrase "deep six" is a slang term that means to get rid of or destroy something. So, Tony saying that they deep sixed the data just means they deleted all of the data.
This movie had the exact same problem as IM3. The trailers hyped up a super badass villain that was not at all what was in the actual movie. Though not as wild as the Mandarin -> Trevor Slatery reveal tbf, that will never not hurt me 😅
James Spader is an acting beast! I've been a fan since I first saw him in "S*x, lies and videotapes", but my favourite thing he did is "Boston Legal", he was so good in that show and had an amazing chemistry with William Shatner.
the fact that Clint son's middle name is Pietro after Wanda's brother and because he was the one who made it possible to come home is beautiful😭❤
The most realistic part of this movie was Ultron spending one (1) minute on the internet and concluding that humanity is beyond redemption and must be destroyed.

The introduction of ultron, vision, Wanda and quicksilver (the first speedster in the mcu)
Banner never gets a break. The Hulk is a very sad character, and the more you know about him, the sadder it gets.
I like how they showed Barton as the dad of the group. That fits well with his character.
And Quynh is just a delight. It's good to have her around. Ya done well, Nick.
Cap and Thor’s teamwork in this movie is simply awesome.
Nick, I gotta tell you, you've got the real deal -- she's the whole package. WHAT A QUYNH/QUEEN! (see what I just did here? 😉😆)
Also, 43:21 - That moment when you have to go along with the joke and laugh, but you KNOW what's coming next...
Dares the Ten Rings to visit his home, makes a killer robot... What unilateral shenanigans will Tony bring us in the future?
Ultron is one of my fav villains in the entirety of the MCU, especially in Marvel's What If series.
"They" didn't let Nick keep that helicarrier. He pulled it out of mothballs with the help of some old friends. I can't really explain where it came from, or who those old friends are, in case you do eventually watch the television show I recommended you watch when you got past "The Avengers" movie (it's explained there).
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
It could be a vision or a possibility future that she showed Tony stark cuz she gave Thor a vision and showed black widow and Steve real things/memories from they’re life’s
she prays on the biggest weakness... for some ppl that's their past for others, it's their future
thor : inadequate king, that can't protect the realms and his friends
iron-man : that he didn't do enough and wasted his life
widow : that she can't escape her past that she'll always be just a killer
steve : that he is lost out of time and we'll never get the life he wanted
Oh yay! I caught up on all your MCU episodes and am in need of more. Plus, AOU is great!
When she asked "What's hide the zucchini?" You should have said "I'll show you later." :)
@51:33 Welcome Nathaniel Pietro Barton, named after three brave people, willing to give their all.
Qu’ynh has the best reactions I swear she’s so empathetic and spot on. And you guys together are great to watch. Some of my favorite reactors out there glad I subbed!
after this reaction i can’t wait for you guys to get to the black widow movie
Feminist revisionist tripe.
@@JacksonDiddles what
@@hailee2279 Feminist=Hatred of Men + revisionist=female led assassination training organization + tripe=Something disparaged as valueless, especially written works and popular entertainment...there, clearly defined for the slow.
@@hailee2279I think what they were trying to say is the movie isn't well liked but I do agree they should watch the movie since it's apart of the marvel universe so you'll get more of an understanding about black widow
ruined Taskmaster
feels like I watched this movie again for the first time with yall
Wish we had more casual scenes like the Tower Party...cant wait for Civil War!!
Wonderful reaction…as always.😊👍
James Spader who played Daniel Jackson in Stargate voiced Ultron for this movie
The crazy thing is Scarlett was pregnant during this film
The outing of the Avenger is so important to their overall arc. Here they're really working well together, we almost believe nothing would split them up.
Clint's wife is an ex-SHIELD agent too that's why she's so sharp. You'll learn who she was in the Hawkeye MCU show.
Ever wondered why they killed Pietro right after we liked him? It's because it was written by JOSS WHEDON (Buffy, etc), and that man knows how to mess with us 😂 😂 😂
Quỳnh is getting sooo good at reacting! I'm loving her 💖
Hi Nick, i've been watching your The Big Bang Theory's reacts, and today I subscribed to follow your journey throught MCU. Greetings from Brazil!
Waiting for your reaction ❣️
They do say that AI could eventually just be like, for example, “oh you want me to eradicate cancer from the world? On it.” and eventually reaches the conclusion that well….if everyone is dead no one has cancer…Yey I’m helping 😂😂
11:16 As Stan is led away he says “Excelsior!” The Latin word that Stan Lee made his life motto, it's meaning ... “ever upward.”
Wanda can make them see what she wants them to see. However, in this particular movie she made them see their greatest fears (regarding the future). Literally their worst nightmare about their possible futures. (It is not Wanda's only power btw...and in the comics her "superhero name" is Scarlet Witch - well her whole character is different though as in the comics she is actually a mutant which they changed in the MCU-version of her).
deep-six (someone or something)
To eliminate or dispose of someone or something. A reference to the standard six-foot depth of a grave.
deep six
1. noun Death or burial at sea. Likely a reference to six fathoms of water being the standard depth at which to bury bodies at sea. Usually used in the forms "get the deep six" or "give someone the deep six."
Thank you for explaining the background. As a none native speaker I didn't know that.
See, the best thing to do with Hulk on a rampage is something that they *NEVER* do. Clear the area and then leave him alone. Maybe pipe in some soothing ambient sounds.
"She gave him vision." Such a prophetic comment! 🙂
Is not a roast. Natasha means it. Barton is the clue.
I love this one.
Great reaction, both of you.
Off topic but other great Sandler comedies are happy gilmore, the longest yard 2005 grown ups 2 and Billy madison.
"Deep 6" is a term meaning to bury. As in 6 feet under.
Or burial at sea which is 6 fathoms (much deeper than 6 feet and more appropriate). To deep six something is to bury or dispose of it so deep nobody finds it.
Deep six the technology. To destroy the tech. Deep Six is an ocean reference, like a burial. To throw overboard.
Can NOT wait until y'all get to Thor Ragnarok, Infinity War, and Endgame... they are my comfort movies
whenever AoU showed up, it reminds me the scene where Cap trying to choke Ultron, like its not going to work Cap, ahahaha
Probably seen over 50 AoU reaction vids and she's the only one to catch that thats the guy from Winter Soldier that didn't want to put in the helicarrier codes.
Awesome reaction as usual thanks!
A little tidbit of information. The voice of Ultron and Digital character is played by James Spader, who stared in your recent movie reaction "Stargate"
Thanos ..is coming.
36:27 help the way Bruce really thought he could stop Wanda 🤣.
I wish Pietro had lived just to continue his banter with Barton
This was my very favorite Marvel movie for a long time.
I love Natasha and Bruce together, I hate how it ended cause I wanted to see more of them! Love the reaction
You can just look at Wanda's wiki for her powers. Every character of any universe has a wiki and all the Marvel ones have ratings in powers and abilities from 1 (human) to 7 (god-like).
Great reaction! My favorite MCU movie.
I love Rhodey 😂😂😂
Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch are actually Magnus's (Magnito's) kids. The mcu pussed out on that one
I think it's just because the MCU didn't have the film rights to the X-Men at the time.
25:16 Man of steel 👊😎
I have to admit one thing I didn't like was the thing with Black Widow and Hulk, but good film overall. Another fun reaction, cheers
The funny thing is the Ultron is Daniel from Stargate.
Ultron Never Die Because it's Technologie and Every Technologie Never Die
