The actor who plays Clint was super-disappointed that he spent most of the first Avengers movie as a mind-controlled slave with little personality, so for this second movie the writers made sure to give his character TONS more humor, personality, backstory, and heart. It's a great example of a franchise compensating for past shortcomings. :)
Just to understand, at the time of this film, 20th Century Fox had the rights to X-Men, so Marvel Studios could not use the term "mutants," nor could they use the names Quicksilver or Scarlet Witch, so they went to Pietro (the correct name for the character) and Wanda. Evan Peters played Quicksilver in the X-Men and they used Peter as his name. They did not use the Scarlet Witch character. It messes everything up as far as storyline is concerned, but now that Marvel has purchased a portion of the rights back, there have been some crossovers between the two storylines. It's really sad they killed the Pietro character, because they did a far better job with his speed than DC did with the Flash.
When Bruce triggers the Hulk transformation he has more control over the hulk's body but when he gets angry pass his mental threshold the Hulk takes over again so when Ultron shot up Natasha with a jet the hulk took control and the Hulk turned off the comlink not Bruce.
The X-Men and mutants are Marvel, but Marvel comics almost went bankrupt in the 1990s so they sold the X-Men movie rights to Fox to try and keep the business afloat. When Marvel decided to start making their own movies, they couldn't use the X-Men because Fox now owned the rights, so Marvel had to go with their less popular characters such as Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. When it comes to Wanda and Pietro, Wanda was always associated more with the Avengers than the X-Men in the comics, so Marvel and Fox came up with a deal whereby Fox would keep Pietro and Marvel would get Wanda (but because Fox had the rights to mutants, Marvel couldn't refer to her as being a mutant).
I mean it was debunked that wanda is clearly not a mutant from a comic book it was confirmed that she was gifted by cthon and was amplified by some scientist which probably amplified everything that she has but i dont think its canon to the all comics where wanda has been
Boy don’t you underestimate Wanda, one of the most powerful avengers, could slaughter pretty much any, if not all of them in a 1v1. Even tho they would never fight, even Pietro, her brother would get slaughtered if they fought
Michelle, I think you've confused Strucker (formerly of Hydra) with Stryker of the X2 film. The term "Mutants" was owned by FOX at the time. Currently, without mentioning spoilers, mutants are now apart of the MCU . . . sort of. 😉
Yes, the names are similar. For whatever reason when I hear Strucker I think of grape jelly like Smuckers. And yes, mutants will be but not quiiiiiiite where you are yet.
57:41 it would’ve helped if we’d been reminded of how their relationship existed and who they are to each other since IM2. In theory, a progression from the dad-who-did-not-want-the-family-pet vibes to gruff-but-loving-mentor vibes works SUPER WELL, but can see how it’s not earned.
Shoutout to the Clint love, I never thought much of his character until Avengers Endgame but I saw his character differently coming out of it. His Disney+ show isn’t too bad either. Hope u watch.
This will become clear with time, but the Hulk situation is less a matter of “Bruce seeing through the fog,” and more a matter of Hulk being his own slowly developing personality who gains his own cognizance separate from Bruce the longer he’s at the surface.
yay vision’s introduction!! he has my favorite line in all of the mcu (but it won’t be for a while yet sobs). also clint!! unfortunately, this is probably my least favorite avengers movie, but i do like that they gave clint more of a personality and made him more like his comic book version. he’s my fav and i love when he gets some recognition :)
23:34 I don't know if I'd blame Wanda here. I just love moral debates though, but I'd say it's a lot like what the Joker said in the DCU. All it takes is a little push. Would Stark have done this himself eventually, without Wanda making him see that vision, or was her vision the only reason he did create Ultron. Who knows.
Well from Iron Man 3 we know he was already having anxiety attacks from the events of the first Avengers movie. And in this film, when he brings up the possibility of Ultron, Bruce immediately knew who/what Ultron was supposed to be. Clearly the two geniuses had already had this discussion at length before. We saw them drive off together at the end of Avengers so they must be friends and have had lots of conversations. So yeah, Wanda was just the "Joker's push" for Tony to realize the stone in the scepter was a key and take that extra step.
Spoiler free, but linked to your speculations. Way back before Disney bought Marvel, Marvel was struggling & sold the film rights to some of their most iconic heroes. Xmen & Fantastic Four to Sony, Hulk to Universal, Spiderman to Sony. Anyway years later Disney started their MCU story & years later again Disney bought Fox & became much more protective of Marvel characters & started trying to expand their MCU opportunities. Sony owning the rights to Spiderman gave them about 800 characters so I can only imagine what Fox had! Anyway at the time of making this Fox basically owned the rights to the word Mutant, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver (Pietro) both were prominent in he Xmen comics, but also Avenger titles. A deal was struck and we saw the introduction of the Scarlet Witch & we saw Quicksilver heroically pass away, giving Fox the opportunity to use him. Anyway from this point onwards we start to see Disney being more territorial about all Marvel created characters, so whilst not part of the MCU timeline, the Xmen movies inc Deadpool, Logan, & Xmen 97 animation, the Fantastic Four movies, the Spiderman movies, the Netflix shows (Daredevil, Punisher, Jesicca Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders) & more, they all become more relevant to the MCU, to varying degrees. All of these are (again to varying degrees) worth looking at, either for UA-cam content, or Patreon, or collabs (if already seen), or even personal viewing (for context). I don't want to say more & at this point we certainly don't know everything, but we know enough to know Disney are trying to paint a broader picture than what was afforded to them when they started the MCU, great reaction, again, thank you.
X-Men and The Avengers are both Marvel IP. But back when Marvel comics was facing severe financial hardships, they had to sell Spiderman to Sony and X-Men to Fox. Wanda and Pietro are mutants, but the MCU at the time couldn't call them by their "mutant names" because Fox owned the copyrights. Fear not, though, because Mickey the Mouse now owns both Fox and Marvel Studios. So, Marvel if free to initiate a plan to bring the X-Men and the Avengers universes together under the same umbrella. It will be interesting to see how it gets done. 👁👁👁
This movie came out in 2015 when Fox still owned the rights to the X-Men and everything related including the use of the word "mutant" for super powered people. However Marvel argued that Wanda and Pietro were long time Avengers and thus both had some rights. So Marvel just used the characters but didn't use their superhero names Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and implied they got their powers from the mind stone rather than being mutants. Two years later Disney decided to buy Fox and by March 2019 they owned Marvel and Fox.
Artificial intelligence can not take over like in the movies and the only reason it happened here is because of the infinity stone magic integrating itself into Ultron matrix. Which is what Ultron was talking about God winding up a stone AKA Thanos and the infinity stones.
53:10 i appreciate your talks and opinions, especially on ‘trivial’ movies, bc there is so much DEPTH even unintentionally, given how marvel as a company exists and moves in the here and now. I agree that it would’ve added so much to both their stories to have them talk, and feel that loss even through this reaction and after nearly a decade since this movie came out 55:23 I’d say it’s that the writers (Whedon) got too clever and impressed with themselves, riding the high of the mcu’s success and not having this being a piece of art at the forefront of their mind
The thing about Wanda and Pietro is that they originally do come from the X-Men comic-arcs but Disney/Marvel wanted a different twist so the twins got their powers from experiments performed on them with the yellow Mind-stone - they are "enhanced" but never called mutants here. Wanda's hate towards Tony in the beginning of this movie has a reason that will be more dived into in the show WandaVision.
I grew up on the xmen cartoon and loved everything about it. Striker not Struker haha but no worries we get you and funny you should bring up Xmen because tecnically in the comics Pietro and Wanda are in fact Magneto's kids but they didn't have the rights to make that happen here so they changed Wanda and her brother's story to fit what they wanted. Wanda is the Scarlett Witch in the comics and one of my favorite characters...she has the power to bring things from different realilies into our own so like bringing a train from seemingly no where to ram into her enemies stuff like that and she can fly as well. Any way that aside I really like how Elizabeth Olson plays Wanda as specially in this one and the one that came after as well. Any way glad you liked this one and honostly it is one of my favorites as well.
59:54 not a movie but i recently rewatched star trek discovery s1 and MY GOD. Overall I love it, but there are so many ways they could’ve worked the ideas they present so much better! I still have no idea what they were trying to do with this one character’s plot, especially given how disconnected it feels from how it continues though s2
When i started watching the X-Men movies to get ready for Deadpool & Wolverine,I also thought Stryker was Strucker. The names are too similar for my brain. It took a lot of wiki searches to find the right names.
The criticisms you have do get addressed to some degree in some of the other MCU stuff. Also, I did really like Avengers 2 more the 1st Avengers movie too.
I loved your appreciation but also criticism for this movie. I think the main problem with this movie imo is Ultron. In the comics, the reason why he's so interesting is because his AI is based off the brain scan of Hank Pym (First Ant-Man). I wish they had waited to show Ultron until Ant-Man and Hank Pym was established. This movie could've easily been about Vision being born, maybe he hates the Avengers or humanity at first, and Wanda and Quick Silver team up with him. Then at the end Vision learns to accept that he's a product of humanity therefore he should try his best to protect people. Idk Im just throwing out ideas lol. The main thing that I loved about this movie was easily Clint. Learning about his family and his backstory is very wholesome and interesting. Great reaction as always!! You deserve more subs
Idk why this movie was so hated when it came out, I absolutely love it to pieces!!!!! The character relationships and character arcs, the combination of humour with deep conversations, and the story over all is great. Yes, Clint Barton is my man! (low key my fav Avenger). Also, just wait until you see more of Wanda and Vision! Once you finish up until "Avengers: Endgame" go watch "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye", along with "Loki" they are the best Marvel has to offer.
I listened to all of your commentary at the end and yours is my fave. I liked what you said about Steve not wanting to fight on behalf of any one nations interest. That plays a huge part of Steve’s place in the story going forward. Great reaction. ❤
The Wolverine movie where Logan's in Japan is "The Wolverine" :) "Logan" is a different, newer Wolverine movie, which is also rated R so heads up there for it being very graphic and heavy.
Not surprised Clint has a fun, easygoing personality in the Marvel movies. Met Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton) IRL, probably one of the funniest, most down to earth celebrities there are. Glad he brought some of it to the screen ❤
Clint was amazing in this. He def got his just due for being left out in Avengers. Since you've come around to Clint I think I can say you'll love Hawkeye in the future. =)
Sorry to be late to the party, i have some catching up to do with you 😊 i agree with what you're saying about Tony and Wanda. However, at this point Tony doesn't know what Wanda's history is. There is a failed opportunity in a future movie, (which you've now seen) for Tony to acknowledge or even apologize to her. It never manifests. Ive never read the comics, so i don't know if there is a follow through there.
To follow where Hulk goes at the end of this, PLEASE do a reaction to my favorite Marvel movie Thor Ragnarok 🙏🏽.. Ps.. I enjoyed X-men Origins: Wolverine too.. Nothing accurate about it but I liked it for what it was.. Wanda’s twin brother is Quicksilver.. Same Quicksilver from X-Men: Days Of Future Past (loved this movie).. Came out around the same time & there was a Fox vs Disney thing for the character so both used him
Was ab to flame you for those comments at 27:25 then realized you haven’t watched the movies I was gonna mention points / examples from. If it weren't for the introduction of the twins and Vision, I would skip this movie on a personal MCU rewatch. I think Paul did a fabulous job as Vision. Even though this was his debut I still felt sad for Wanda losing Pietro like that. I loved that Clint's new son was named after Natasha and Pietro. NATHAN PIETRO BARTON. That baby was too cute. People used to talk so much crap about Clint and belittle him, when he is absolutely amazing and one of the biggest women supporters out of the group. This movie is so under-appreciated, I’m glad people are starting to notice
Hawkeyes pep talk to Wanda is iconic 😂
Strucker = Avengers
Stryker = X-men
But both are Marvel
It's funny though because she's kinda still right; Wanda and Pietro are mutants, that's just the wrong connection to make about it.
Just to understand, at the time of this film, 20th Century Fox had the rights to X-Men, so Marvel Studios could not use the term "mutants," nor could they use the names Quicksilver or Scarlet Witch, so they went to Pietro (the correct name for the character) and Wanda. Hulk said I'm not a friend zone guy.
