I have an honest question, not a troll: what is the joy/fun of offroading?
I haven't had the opportunity to try it so I'm curious. This stuff in the video doesn't seem fun to me but I might have different opinion after I try it.

    • @sivildisobedience

@@JuNo7373 much like spirited driving, it's all about the feel. In rock crawling specifically, the technical aspect of choosing your lines right and managing the steering and throttle is appealing to people like me. You don't fully understand until you've experienced it, but don't do an offroad expedition with some company, those are watered down. You can probably find someone in the community, perhaps a friend of a friend, who will let you ride and get you hooked.

Lmao at the time I wasn’t a car guy (I now run body shops and I’m very much a car guy lol) so I didn’t know it was expensive I just knew I loved it and I took all the courses and such my parents asked for and picked one out. Once it was mine it was 100% on me to maintain and take care off. (Insurance, gas, maintenance, etc) So I got a job and whenever something went wrong I made the appointments to get it fixed and learned to do maintenance myself. It’s what got me into cars to be honest. I genuinely went off road often with it. I had friends with jeeps and tahoes and 4runners and we had a lot of fun. I got to learn engines on the Bosch 4.6 lol my next vehicle was a an e46 330 with the zhp package. So my first two cars were my first experience with repairs and maintenance. Now nothing scares me 😂

@@metadata4255 I had my dads 1994 classic range rover for my first car to mob around san francisco, it was 2002. my dad thot it was a great choice because its was slow and safe and gave him an excuse to get a new P38. my brother had a porsche 928 as his first car and rolled it so the $4000 '88 bmw M635csi (70k miles 1 owner red on beige leather) that I test drove and I had money for and wanted so bad was a big no. Girls really really liked my range rover tho and then I got a clutch pedal on vacation to a german junkyard for a manual swap which made it perfect.

@@metadata4255all models of range rovers are extremely reliable the best being late model classics. owners like to boast by making it seem that even if you could afford one you couldn't afford the maintenance and tow bills. but maintenance was less than competitors like the naviagtor and escalade. that said if you overheat the engine expect to have to install top hat liners for $10k so mind the temperature gauge. cracking the block and dropping a liner is always the driver's fault -> aluminum blocks are generally more delicate.

I had a 2001 30th Anniversary Edition P38 that suffered from electrical gremlins. One of the critical gremlin was the left turn signal would stay on and not blink even if the car was turned off. I did a lot of research and thought I had to have my ECU under the passenger seat rebuilt. Once I opened up the ECU I found that either a hot chocolate or coffee has spilled on to the ECU and covered some of the circuits/chips. I cleaned the circuit board and solved my issues.

For all the digs about reliability and faults, the P38 still has a presence about it, even in bright yellow paint! Getting wheel spin on the articulation part - you may find if you kept into the throttle a little, it would figure it out. If not, then your Traction control and/or auto center diff may not be working right.
