Hi, being a muslim with Ramadan ive seen the benefits. Usually struggle with headaches first few days and then find it difficult to start fasting again out of the month becomes so difficult. Now im sticking to fasting with water, coffee and tea which has helped to stay consistent. I now am doing between 20-23 hour a day fasting which has shown great results in a short period of time. I generally dont eat much but drank less on water. Ive changed that now. Also taking applecider vinegar. All these fasting videos has helped me to stay on track and discipline.
I understand that organic chicken is the best option, but sometimes we do buy a roast chicken from the store. When we do, I carve it up for meals. And put all of bones/carcass to simmer for hours, with a bay leaf. (If you love Pho broth, add a couple of star anise). After several hours, 4-8, I remove the bones and refrigerate covered, overnight. When I check it hours later, it always has that rich gelatinous texture. (Which means, you can still get the bone broth content out of a roasted (not raw) chicken. It is one more way to get the most bang for the buck with food.

@@foreveryoung999 12 hours is minimum, no? Some take 24 to 36. How are you able to breakdown the bones in less time to develop a deeply flavorful and nutrient rich broth? Purely anecdotal, but I have never seen a recipe for under 12. Please do tell.

Asians have been drinking bone broth / soups (medicinal or not) for centuries...! The Chinese always have to have a bowl of soup to 'open up' your appetite before meals. The Vietnamese and Japanese have delicious pho and ramen - made from beef and pork bones.. So is Koreans, etc.. Thanks for highlighting this Dr. Mindy - it's one of the best and delicious healthy form of food.
@@shawshank6015 not if you cook it at home or go to a good pho place.. :) When cooking with fresh ingredients and good pairings, and with the right way of getting the depth of flavour out - you will never need to 'add sugar'... As the sweetness of some ingredients will shine on its own. But yes, I understand many use sugar.. Just be selective on what / where you eat. :)
She's so good, because I was literally about to click out of the video when she mentioned bone broth, but then she immediately said, "And vegans, don't click off, because I'm going to get to a vegan version." Good job of anticipating what your audience is thinking! :)
That got me too! But then she said, if you’re vegan, some people make fish broth - definitely not vegan! I’ve heard there’s plenty of lead in bone broth.

Food for thought... Some thyroid challenged folks can experience inflammation from Greek Yogurt...so best to monitor by process of elimination and to consider steering toward other means of protein.
@@DrMindyPelz Quick question because you didn't cover this during your discussion on protein cycling. I understand how it works when you are intermitent fasting (17 hours for example), but what if you are doing 36/12. 36 hours of fasting and then a 12 hour window for eating and doing that consistently. Does the eating your weight in protein grams for during that 12 hour window still have the same benefit even though you are going a day and a half between eating windows? Thank you!
I just wanted to tha k Dr Mindy for her helpful advice...whenever I need encouragement or need to fine tune this journey I can count on her help. Thanks Dr. Mindy. I am an older woman that nothing else worked for me but fasting lifestyle I've lost about 30 pounds and not done yet!
Although I'm Asian and my mom used to make bone broth, I prefer just eating gelatin sweetened only with berries and other fruit rich in Vit. C and polyphenols (homemade gelatin jello is glycine-rich and collagen-rich without the extra fat)
@@darlenefitzgerald4371 Just dissolve 1.5 - 2 tbsp plain gelatin into 2 cups hot water. Cool for a minute, stir in berries. Put in fridge. I also add collagen peptides powder 1 scoop too. True...most Eastern European countries eat soups cooked on bones (not salad, but soup) before an actual Main course meal, and they consume much, much less food without being hungry. No wonder they are all in shape.
I'm still struggling to eat enough protein in my eating window. (A 16/8 schedule is what my body seems comfortable with.) I am coming from several months of juicing, eating mostly veggies, brown rice, nuts and beans. The inflammation in my body is gone and I haven't been sick in over a year, but my energy was lagging and the weight just seemed to plateau. I've switched from vegan to vegetarian, adding dairy and eggs, so it may be that my body is just not accustomed to it yet. I've been feeling much better though, and the weight is coming off again, so I'm excited. I'm amazed at how easy fasting is with this approach. I can hardly believe it. I have quite a bit of experience with fasting, but usually did it with juicing. I never knew something like MCT oil could be taken during a fast, but it's been amazing! I'm loving these videos. So thankful for Dr Mindy!❤
I tried desperately to get enough protein while I was plant-based. Couldn’t do it and I was always exhausted. When I went animal based, I felt so much better, easily met protein goals eating red meat every meal, and dropped 20 pounds of baby weight like it was nothing. Red meat heals the body. Every time I try to reintroduce veggies I get heartburn and inflammation. Not worth it.

I was plagued by restless legs even though I was making sure I got plenty of potassium, then I discovered that rubbing magnesium oil on my legs got rid of it within a few minutes. I now make sure I'm eating plenty of magnesium rich foods.
Reading my bible, going to church, praying to God, speaking with a counselor and surrounding myself with like minded positive individuals is what helps me.
It would be great to see a video completely dedicated to vegan/vegetarian ways of living. Whether it be weight loss, eating/fasting for vegetarians, or gut benefits of a vegan. Maybe even the benefits of consciousness and brain function as a vegetarian. ...As example, Yogi's (practitioners of Yoga) choose to eat vegetarian rather than a vegan diet most notably because of the benefits that ghee has on the brain, joints, and gut health. This according to the traditional teachings and teachers such as Krishnamacharya. Thank you Dr. Mindy for doing what you do... and please consider doing a video and/or series for vegan/vegetarians.
Dude, it’s not healthy. Vegetarianism can probably be sort of ok if you eat a lot of eggs and grassfed-sourced butter, but veganism is horrible for your health- I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I really wish I had learned about how beneficial and healing red meat and animal fat is before I went through my vegan phase. Long-term, veganism is simply too deficient in too many nutrients that unless you’re supplementing 100+ pills a day like that billionaire dude, you cannot have anything close to optimal health.
This is such a timely message, I literally bought cartons of natural bone broth yesterday by sheer inspiration for after my fast, but now that I can have it in my fast, you made my day even better!
this is my current question for the keto channel community: my question is a request, my request is to get a guideline for being in ketosis and for achieving certain ketone and or GKI range throughout the week. I want to look at it this way instead of aiming for fasting goals and food restriction goals. Here is why. because I am always looking at ketone levels and GKI levels as the real measure of my success. see what I mean. so instead of fasting goals, I would like to have ketone/GKI level goals and then find the fasting/restricting goals that might get me where I want to go as far as ketones/GKI. why is this? because I need the ketones/GKI levels if I want to achieve in terms of insulin sensitivity and reducing inflammation.

@@Ponkelina she said in the video if you're vegan you can do veggie broth but to add glycine to it. I wish she was a little more specific about it. I think you could probably just have veggie broth in its place.
@PaddyP538 hello, I guess you have to take your eating window, divide into two hours each time and check your protein intake. For exemple, my goal weight is 45kg, if my eating window is 8 hours, my intake of protein each 2 hours would be about 11 gr each time x 4 . Do you agree? What is your eating window you chose for protein cycling? dr Mindy take a goal of 130pounds, an eating window of ten hours so it makes 26 gr / 30gr by meal every two hours (130 divided by 5 -eating window 10 hours, intake each 2 hours = 5, and you have the explanation of the 30 gr P) Or you have this answer from dr Mindy : "If Autophagy is your goal, then protein is under 20 grams a day." You also have @teresaaltman5264 publication (180gr of P) and dr Mindy's answer.
Hi Mindy, thank you so much for your work and I look forward to getting you new book. TWO QUESTION S- Can fasting help heal a herniated disc? And should you avoid fasting if you are on painkillers?
I have been following your program for over a year. Implementing everything the book and utube videos recommend. At 1st my migraines got worse. Then it occurred to me to look into the foods I was breaking fasts with or turning off hunger hormone with. I discovered I am histamine intolerant. So once I cut out all the histamine triggering foods my migraines went away. Other than a few headaches and maybe 1 migraine a month. I went from having migraines all my life and thousands of dollars in neurologist bills, to find out the foods the neurologist had me eating were causing most of my migraines and itching. I am 53 now. Haven’t made it through menopause yet. I am 5 ft and am about 10-12 lbs over weight. I have done all the long fast, protein cycling, red light ect. Still after over a year I have not lost the belly pouch. I am not able to implement the histamine triggering foods like bone broth, sauerkraut, fermented foods, avacodos. Since I cut all that out I do find I have a slight tolerance now and then without a side effect. I have a genetic mutation in my calcium receptor. I have what is called FHH (Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia ) I am starting to think this and the histamine intolerance is why I can not lose the extra lbs. I have osteopenia from the FHH and the fasting life has no doubt helped my bone pain. ( and migraines and itching ) I just wish I could figure out what to do, or not do, to get to my final goal. I wish I could implement everything you suggested but my body says no!
I hear you with the thousands spent on medical professionals. I was vegan or vegetarian for many years in my 20's, then omnivore for the past 13 years. I'm 41 now and all my life I struggled with migraines and extreme fatigue every day. All blood work came back normal and I had extensive panels done. I have been trying many things on my own, including fasting. Just in the past two months I figured out three cures for my migraines and fatigue: extra iron supplementation, daily sternocleidomastoid stretches, and strength training at home 4 days a week. My entire life I have dealt with crazy occipital pain that no one ever figured out. No one suggested daily neck exercise. No one suggested iron supplements because my blood work came back in the normal range. No one suggested strength training. I am absolutely convinced that doctors don't care and don't want to help you het well. They are numb to people bc they have to see so many people every week and so many people lie about their symptoms to get drugs. We are our own therapy. We have to research and try things on our own. I an so blessed and happy to say that since I have incorporated all three measures I have no eye pain unless I don't stretch, no more chronic fatigue and I have hope. Years on antidepressants wasted. We need to share with each other what works to save other people from going through a horrible medical system.
My migraines were drastically reduced or eliminated after my hysterectomy (had multiple large fibroids) and by eliminating all forms of monosodiulm gluatamate (msg--aka, natural flavors and so many other names) from my diet.
@@Sara-kc6md Oh my goodness, how WONDERFUL that you figured these things out! I know what it's like to go decades with fatigue (still there). I am so happy for you!! 😊
I love animals too, all animals and nature as a whole, however, I am just as passionate about health and natural healing as much as this doctor is, as a matter of fact, the real healing begins in the kitchen with the foods we eat, the way we prepare them, the care we put into the simplest everyday routines. I cannot count the numerous times that a good earthy and healthy bone broth saved my day and restored my gut balance. Exercise, moving a lot it's also very important. Overall, 100% Agree with this woman!
@loreerhonda8321, I keep it simple by pretty much just eating the same stuff every day, with some variety. I mostly do 1/2-1 pound ground beef/meat daily, 3-5 cups whole milk, a variety of fruit (including veggie type fruits like squash, cucumber), and I often eat cottage cheese with my fruit for extra protein, but those are my current daily staples! 😊I plus my foods into cronometer to make sure I'm meeting my caloric, nutritional and macro goals.
About the cortisol ive been listening to lowering cirtisol frequency music and it has been a big game changer i listen to it for 20 mins a day while i have my headphones on listening i meditate i also listen to 741hz for detoxing from toxins
I am struggling to get enough sleep at night. I’m post menopausal. I have come so far with your information and advice. Really so pleased with my weight loss…and the greatest thing about the weight loss is that l have so much less pain and feel better in general. If there is any information at all that will help me get 6-7 hours sleep at night l would really appreciate it. I may lay down and rest my back in the daytime for short periods but l never sleep or nap. Never. And thank you, I honestly have more energy and I’m able to go for walks again. Bonus…l don’t need to buy more new clothes! 😊 Just aching for sleep.
I am post menopausal and have autoimmune, and the meds give me insomnia. I started drinking Moonbrew every night about two weeks ago and I am asleep by 11 every night (used to be 1/2 am), and am naturally waking up between 7:30 and 8:30 am (used to be 9 or 10 am). I’ve been mixing the hot cocoa flavor into a glass of raw goats milk and drinking it cold like chocolate milk. It’s the last thing I consume before starting my fasting window. The first night I took it. I was ready to pass out in an hour. Now it’s more about just helping me relax and fall asleep, it’s not quite so drastic, but it has definitely helped me get back to a normal sleep pattern. And I’m only waking up once or twice to pee and falling right back asleep.

Dr Mindy, what about women who might have more stress over the morning for their job? Should they start fasting early afternoon to break it earlier in the morning?
Hi there, the beauty of fasting is experimenting on YOUR body and learning to read your body’s signals. It’s wise to make adjustments to meet your needs/ goals. 💙Dr. Mindy’s Team
I think my question is mainly if we can fast in the stressful window of the day. The recent Dr. Huberman podcast with Dr Sims, she mentioned that women have to break their fast earlier in the morning since their stress and cortisol is higher over that time
I have MCAS and got full body muscle spasms and tachycardia by attempting a short bone broth fast. It can be very high in histamine, so use caution if you're like me 😅 I would love an alternative...
My ADHD brain cannot sit through this much talking. I wish these videos were more condensed, so I could consume more content. I have Dr. Mindy's book and love it. I just wish there were shorter videos.
I was thinking the same thing! I was looking for time stamps or a summary of what was said because I was quickly overwhelmed with so much information and fast talking.
@mlc2372 👋🏽 fellow ADHDer here, what helps me is speeding up the playback speed, I’m able to condense the time and retain so much more. I hope this helps ✨
What if you're doing OMAD? Are we supposed to try to do 130g of protein in one meal? Can autophagy reduce the amount of new protein that we need to consume?
Dr Berg believes because of autophagy you need less protein on OMAD. Eating every two hours to get in the protein doesn’t sound healthy. I use protein to satiate.

Started fasting 16/8. 55 yo Desperate to drop weight (80#) besides being weight, the hot flashes of menopause is literally driving me insane. Great information!
This makes me feel hopeless of ever getting healthy and losing weight. I live in Massachusetts on the coast where it costs $9.00 for a pint of organic blueberries or strawberries, real olive oil costs at least $20.00+ and organic meat is completely out of reach financially. Being able to eat that much protien and organic produce a day is impossible for someone like me. Im very discouraged.
The stress and sleep 😢 I feel like I'll always be imprisoned in this body. My daughter is autistic and doesnt require much sleep (22 hr wake time sometimes and I'm wrecked). My stress IS my lack of sleep. 😩
Yes sister preach! I have a son who is autistic and it's the same for me. I am so sorry for what you are going through. Have you tried melatonin for your daughter?
I can’t even eat 130 grams in a full eating window. At 68 I just don’t have the digestive enzymes to handle it. I shoot for a gram per kilo. So for me, 65 - 75 grams per day. Especially when I tend to eat 2 meals a day!
I'm right there with you! There's just no way I could eat that much inside my eating window. I'd have to do nothing but eat, lol. I'm feeling much better tho, so as long as my body is happy and my conditions are improving, I guess I won't stress over it.

@shazanakhan9807, Oh my goodness, I'm so very sorry to hear that and after all of your dedication and sacrifice!! :( I am stumped by it, as fasting tends to reset/change the microbiome and give good bugs an advantage. Have you tried solid foods yet? Could it just be all the kefir? I did an almost 3 month juice fast years back, and I broke it with cooked vegetables (a small bowl; carrots & purple cabbage). I started craving potatoes and added those in within a few days. My digestion was pristine, and I credited it to the long fast. I really hope you get better. 🙏
Throw in a large pot 1 2 or 3 chicken carcasses add chicken feet and necks chopped onion chopped carrots salt pepper mixed herbs chicken stock cubes adjust quantities to suit your taste add enough water to drown all and slow cook at least overnight longer not a problem with a slow cooker you can keep it on until you finish contents I have kept mine on for 3 days until I have taken all the juice make sure you leave chicken skin in broth needs the fat add mct oil or butter or both adjust and experiment to your taste i also put cayenne pepper in and sometimes other herbs ...you need the chicken fat in it
That 10 oz steak is uncooked. After cooking, depending on how it’s cooked, it’s going to be less than 10 oz. Maybe 7-8 oz. Non meat sources of protein ( fish, beans, legumes, tofu etc.) don’t shrink after cooking.
@@leslielucci3182 for me my body can’t tolerate beans, legumes or soy. Also, high oxalate greens like spinach and kale tear up my colon. Some of us are not built to be vegetarian. 🤪
The weight loss is because of the fat that's rendered out of the steak as you cook it. There is also water loss. The protein is still in there. I'm no expert but I think that protein from carnivore sources is more bioavailable and has all the amino acids we need. Plants, to my knowledge, do not.
Hence the question several have asked in the comments that hasn't been answered - is food to be measured raw or cooked? 10 Oz of cooked beef vs 10 Oz of raw beef is very different quantities of food...

Can u do heavy workouts during the 60h fast?
What brand mct and where did u get it?
I tried desperately to get enough protein while I was plant-based. Couldn’t do it and I was always exhausted. When I went animal based, I felt so much better, easily met protein goals eating red meat every meal, and dropped 20 pounds of baby weight like it was nothing. Red meat heals the body. Every time I try to reintroduce veggies I get heartburn and inflammation. Not worth it.

@@PaddyP538 I actually calculate by kilogram of ideal body weight with about 15 grams over. That may be more manageable for you.
@PaddyP538 hello, I guess you have to take your eating window, divide into two hours each time and check your protein intake.
How many times per year are you fasting?

Do you mind making a video of some meal plans?
@loreerhonda8321, I keep it simple by pretty much just eating the same stuff every day, with some variety. I mostly do 1/2-1 pound ground beef/meat daily, 3-5 cups whole milk, a variety of fruit (including veggie type fruits like squash, cucumber), and I often eat cottage cheese with my fruit for extra protein, but those are my current daily staples! 😊I plus my foods into cronometer to make sure I'm meeting my caloric, nutritional and macro goals.

Ive fasted 43 days of waterfast. 10 days refeed on kefir and bone broth and soups, 7 days eating solids. I have diarrhea and vomiting, nausea since ive started day 1 of refeed. Over 2wks now and the D+V hasnt stopped. Today i will ask doc for fbc. Im getting ibs symptoms, possibly food intolerance or allergy to certain food that caused ibs symptoms...
maybe you fasted too long...
@shazanakhan9807,
Oh my goodness, I'm so very sorry to hear that and after all of your dedication and sacrifice!!
What about the liver?
Thee Best.
How do you make bone broth. Cooking chicken, beef?
If you check Dr. Mindy's channel and type in these keywords, you'll find videos explaining everything you need about it! 🙌

Exactly
The weight loss is because of the fat that's rendered out of the steak as you cook it. There is also water loss. The protein is still in there. I'm no expert but I think that protein from carnivore sources is more bioavailable and has all the amino acids we need. Plants, to my knowledge, do not.
Hence the question several have asked in the comments that hasn't been answered - is food to be measured raw or cooked? 10 Oz of cooked beef vs 10 Oz of raw beef is very different quantities of food...
@@user-kpkxgtj hello, measured raw because it's the amount of weight indicated on the aliments that counts for the macros, here for the protein. I saw an other answer / cooked to this question by dr Mindy 's team.
I always break my fast with veggies first...is bone broth MORE benaficial?
Hi to the Pelz Team. Would a teaspoon of peanut butter be enough to break my fast. I think this is where I'm going wrong because once I start eating, I find it hard to stop!
Hi there, peanuts may not be the best choice. Alternative nut butters are almond, macadamia, etc. 💙Dr. Mindy's Team
@@hannahandrainn half an avocado and some fermented veg is also a great way to break your fast.
@@DrMindyPelz Thank you 🙏🏼
@@vibrantly50 Thanks. 😊

Hi, can I use chicken feet broth?
Hi there, the glycine is found in connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, skin, cartilage, and bones - yes, that includes feet. 💙Dr. Mindy's Team
So jerky may be high in protein but what about the salt content. And yes protein yields muscle but does it do so if you are sedentary?
Thank you for sharing amazing info, for free!
🙌💙
Really appreciate this information.. Have been so concerned about how much protein needed daily and how will I know if I am eating enough.. so many of my questions answered.

Cool! I’m going to make some! I think I messed up my digestion with stevia

love your shirt! Talk about positive messaging💚
Great video. Two questions, how much protein is in a serving of bone broth , and do we do a 20 hour Fast 5 days a week or is this a sporadic thing just to kick-start the metabolism?
Amazing! I shall give this a try. Thankyou

I actually just saw a video about drinking celery juice first thing in morning on empty stomach and wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. Now it makes sense because celery contains glycine!
