This was good, Ben. Maybe next time you can talk about the country-wide sub shortage and what some districts are doing to keep schools “running.” It boils down to 3 options: 1. Overworking the teachers who aren’t sick and/or quarantined by guilting them into subbing during all of their plan periods and lunch. 2. Replacing teachers with any non-certified staff who passed the background check or 3. Temporary Closures of individual schools that don’t have staffing covered.
We’re worried, we’re tired, and we can’t take much more of this. (Oh! BTW: Many districts are still doing teacher evaluations in the midst of a pandemic where nothing is predictable. That’s a special kind of audacity!)
Idk where it was, but I saw a post from a PD that was bragging that they had ARMED OFFICERS subbing at schools
@@LishB1011 Yep. That was Oklahoma. New Mexico called in National Guard members, and Utah is allowing literally ANYONE WHO IS WILLING to go into a classroom and sub.
Considering most districts here in colorado won't hire on subs that once worked in the pot industry I have very little sympathy right now. I have a BA and I'm willing to be a sub but they won't take me because I worked in a dispenery when I was 22. Doesn't matter that it was the only place that was paying enough for me to go to school and pay medical bills. I worked with pot so fuck off
When i read sub shortage, my first thought was "So eat something else?".
Not sure if I feel like Colorado or Florida after reading the rest.
I know my kids school district in Ohio sent out an email stating that with COVID and the every day shortages they can’t keep up with the current bus routes. So if a kid misses school due to not being having a bus to take them there then it’s excused and there’s no makeup work. Because they are out of options.

Don't get me wrong, it's for the wrong reason but if it helps kids education, especially for those that miss class days due to illness, it's totally worth it.
Plus, any issues that happen would be thoroughly documented.

don’t forget that no district in virginia has had a decline in cases in the past 60 days when youngkin banned mask mandates, and he banned the teaching of “divisive concepts” in schools and which could literally be anything. take it from someone who’s grown up in virginia their whole life youngkin SUCKS. divisive concepts, at least in a former confederate state includes what caused the civil war. hell, in fourth grade i was taught that it was about state’s rights. Virginia is already worse off with him in charge

We're literally dying here in the state of Misery and folks are using ignore it and pretend nothing is going on, which Parson loves to do because he thinks the battle with covid is over. Guess that's why St. Louis needed to ask for federal help and why over half the schools in Missouri have closed.

This is the 2nd time I have found out about stuff going on in my state.
We need more Wyoming content, I feel kind of left out here. Our education system is a hot mess, the politics are losing their minds, and people's natural gas prices (in my area) have gone up by about 43% (give or take a few percentages). I know not much makes the big news but I feel we need something...anything!! In all honesty, I love the portrayal of various states and agencies and having Ms. Rogers on this was amazing! Your content is getting better and better! I love it!
