I took Russian History in the 90's. The line "Russia being...Russia." made me laugh because it is 1,000% true.
My B.A. is Russian Language and Area Studies. My Russian History classes were around 2001 or so. That line got me, too. :)

@@_Wiseguy7 Russia has always been a more... aggressive/possessive country. As both the Russian Empire and Soviet Union, once they took over a territory (and the Ukraine has been part of both.) They DON'T let go.
In fact, my Russian history class started with Kiev, the capital of the Ukraine, being the capital for the Russ, who ended up being the Russians. (Although 30 years later I can't quite remember how it moved to Moscow! I do remember hiw/why it moved from Moscow to St. Petersburg.)
Louisiana going sober, losing the beads, and having ash on his forehead is the perfect representation of the whole state after Mardi Gras, but only after he’s completely knocked out :)

I’m all for the informative feel of the skit to keep us all in the know, but may I just step aside for a moment to appreciate how you use certain lines/phrases to get your voice in the right register for your characters? “It’s too early for this,” for Georgia, and so forth. It’s just so wholesome that you have a method like that to fall back on. I love this for you.

The Ukraine & Russia crisis In simple terms for those that have no idea what is going on.
-Ukraine used to be in an abusive relationship with Russia, feeding him, letting him use her car & giving him whatever he asked for until she built up the confidence to call it quits back in 1991
-Since then Ukraine has been working on herself, becoming a strong independent woman with help from friends like France, America, Poland etc. offering her support, loaning her money, & helping her find her way.
-Ukraine has been enjoying being single for 30 years & looking forward to continuing to grow & create new friendships.
-Now Russia being the toxic Ex that it is wants her back, and doesn’t want her meeting new people or creating any new relationships.
-A couple of weeks ago Russia started sitting in the front of Ukraine’s house & when her friends ask him what was he doing there, he said “Oh nothing, just getting a little bit of exercise in, that’s all.”
-After her friends told her that Russia was potentially getting ready to do something bad to her, he said “They’re lying, they just want you to be scared of me & that’s not what it is”
-Yesterday Russia broke into Ukraine’s house, beating her up & “taking advantage” of her while on Livestream & double dog daring any of her friends to do something about it & if they do want the smoke, Russia got that thang on him.

It is almost perfect analogy. But I would add few changes:
1991-2004: Ukraine was still romanticising that abusive relation with Russia and Russia was fine as long Ukraine will not meet with anybody else.
2004-2014: Ukraine went fully bipolar between "I don't want to know him anymore and I will find new friends" and "Maybe I can rescue this relationship".
2014: Ukraine snapped and decided "Russia no more", so Russia took by force their kids against what the court say.
2014+: Ukraine was looking for new friends.
2020: Ukraine was like:... hmmm maybe that love triangle with Polish-Lithuanian marriage wasn't so bad after all (Ukraine being lover of Polish-Lithuanian marriage ended when Russia beaten up Poland and Lithuania to near death, putting Poland and Lithuania to 123 years coma, after which Russia took Ukraine for himself) and went fully official and formalise Lublin Triangle 😏 ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lublin_Triangle )*.
2022: Russia was: Holy fuck, I can loose Ukraine forever, in few year I will be to weak to force myself on her, I must do SOMETHING.
and here we are.
*After Poland and Lithuania wake up from coma they have divorced and fluctuated between love and fighting, but there still some love there. So be careful he never brought a gun across state borders he was given a gun to use in Wisconsin. That distinction matters legally as they said in court to the crime... (Thanks El Chape, I get those two states mixed up alot.)

Not to diss on all your hard work, but this goes back alot further back than many people realize. The Kyivan Rus is considered by many Eastern European countries (including Russia) to be their cultural ancestor. Furthermore the Russian empire from 1721-1917 controlled most of Ukraine (remember how Germany and Austria-Hungary shared a border with Russia before WW1). After that point the communists took over, they pulled out of the war, lost a bunch of land to the Germans and austrian-hungarians and when the war was over border states between Russia and the other European nations were created like Poland and Romania. And although Ukraine gained independence shortly after WW1, they were incorporated back into the USSR until finally in 1991 the USSR collapsed. So while yes your statement is technically true, it barely manages to scratch the surface. Still I love watching your videos anyways.
Fair point, but I think Douglas Adams said it best: In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
I love history but I could simplify it even more. Ukrain became a state in 1991 but Putin pretends he is the rightful heir to a collapsed country.

my mom majored in international studies with a focus on russia in the 90’s, and we still have a bunch of old books from them that i LOVE to read and i have been very sad but also absolutely in my element explaining this to anyone who doesn’t understand and asks about it

@@jasperavelis9678 not exactly. It showed how much the system really works. He didn't live in that state, therefore whether it was 5 miles or 5 minutes. No one asked him to protect anything. He knew what it was and wanted to catch some bodies.

I appreciate this video. I still had to look some stuff up, since despite being American, I didn't know the history behind Texas, and I still gotta learn what happened with Wisconsin and guns, but that still means you encouraged me to learn.
On talks of Russia, I feel so bad for the citizens. Russian artists who work as freelancers are losing their ability to make money or to even take out the money they have in PayPal because of the economy getting shut down.
Putin not caring about the citizens of Ukraine is horrible enough. Endangering and threatening his own people through threats of time in prison if they speak out against the government, send support to Ukraine, or even use social media in any way that could be seen as "suspicious" is going an extra step further. It's not surprising coming from him, but I think we should still consider what Russian citizens are going through, both from their own country and the other's. So many stand with Ukraine and are in danger for it just by being Russian in or out of Russia.

The gun never crossed State lines. The Prosecution admitted that in the trial. That was one of the reasons the weapons charge was dropped.

@@georgecottell6616 slight correction, that one was dropped because is the state of Wisconsin it is legal for a 17 year old to have a rifle or shotgun. But yes it was never in Illinois.

The self defense thing is probably about russia's economy. They've been exporting oil to most of europé for a while but ukraine has quite alot of oil too. They just couldn't extract it until recently. That and ukraine has been getting friendlier with NATO

If your joke was about Kyle Rittenhouse the gun never crossed state lines and he was there as a medic, he did have the gun though because the riats that had been going on for like three days at that point had turned violent multiple times and if your saying why a rifle well he was to young for a hand gun and (this part is speculation) wanted the most effective tool for detering someone from attacking him or stopping them if they did.
There are a lot of things I appreciate about this sketch. I like how you did your background on this one. It was very tasteful.

Just gotta say, California, that the Kenosha Kid may have crossed lines but it was to visit the city his father lived in. Besides, it's not like he went out on the hunt... he was cleaning spraypaint, providing medical aid, and literally putting out dumpster fires before he was attacked and had to defend himself... as was the judgment of the courts.
Simple correction if you are a resident of WI and buy a weapon in WI technically you are not crossing state lines because you have not left the state.

Before Ben moved to California he used to do his entire recording as a live on TikTok and then edit it, and it would sometimes take a few hours
