That was exactly what I did! And I did it because I thought the circles in the middle were the same! So I think I'm smart! I had an IQ test when I was 13 and my psychologist said that my IQ rate could grow to rates like 160! It was 120 at the time which is significantly higher than the average (87). But I feel less smart now so I don't know how my IQ changed over the years..

I noticed this effect when I was a little kid, when in front of the building I lived in was another building across the street that could be seen form the balcony. When I got further and further from the balcony towards the back of the house, that was the kitchen, I could see the the building appeared to grow and I had no idea why.

This is identical to the "giant moon illusion." When the moon is at or near the horizon, it looks bigger than when it's overhead. Some people erroneously argue the thickness of the atmosphere creates a lens effect that magnifies the moon when it's low. But take some measurements with a caliper at arm's length and you'll discover the size does not change. The illusion is generated in our brain by comparative sizes: near the horizon, the moon looks huge because it's larger than buildings, trees, and mountains. I suffer from micropsia and when you mention the two modes of vision that is my experience things like door knobs can appear the size of a push pin or the size of a basketball but when I reach out to open the door my hand automatically makes the appropriate shape as it seems to know how big a door knob should be no matter how big or small I am seeing it

What infuriates me is that he said "A plier your curiosity" when he could have said "A plier curiosity" because "er" and "your" sound similar.
At the very beginning when he showed the opera house not changing in size but the container changing, I am reminded of a very famous illusion that Alfred Hitchcock used in his movie 'Vertigo'. The shot is called the Dolly zoom where the main subject remains the same size but the relationship between foreground and subject change.
I’d like an episode where Michael talks about the psychological illusion where he is aware that he’s playing a caricature of himself while walking back and forth in that hotel room, but is unsure of how much of the caricature is really him and how much of it is blown out of proportion.

I noticed the same effect while traveling through a tunnel. The light from the other side remained the same size small circle of light until just before reaching the other side, when its size grew exponentially in a relatively short distance.
Something interesting is that blindness induced by injury to the visual cortex doesn't necessarily stop a human from being able to "see" objects. While human with a damaged visual cortex cannot actually see the world around them, experiments have shown that some can still detect obstacles and evade them.
In all those "which is larger" illusions, I always wanted to make them actually have different sizes and see how people react.
How larger can I make the one that usually appears larger, until the people who usually answer that they are the same size notice? How smaller it would need to be so that the answers are balanced?

Yeah. I've always wanted to do one of these where the size/color is varied randomly so it's actually challenging even if you know it's an illusion. And doesn't feel like a cheap trick question.

I know exactly where that room is, not the best furniture or service or anything but they do offer a fantastic view, really breathtaking the first time you talk into that room.

focal length innit. there's less of a change in perspective for far objects as there is for the close one like the walls and window.
You can use that trick in photography that's why some portraits are done with a narrower lense instead of a wide one, because it totally changes someone's facial features so much, a wide angle lense can make your nose look bigger etc.
