*For the novices of animation history:* The caveat to tracing live-action movement is if you 1) purchased the copyright of the footage so you own it or 2) filmed it yourself (e.g. recording a friend or yourself performing the desired movements). That’s what _rotoscoping_ technique is, and has been done legally in animation for over 100yrs (pioneered by the Fleischer Bros in the 1920s, and regularly used by Disney animators)
You’re so welcome! Glad you liked it! And don’t listen to people saying it’s useless to learn animation because of Sora 😄 So here are my thoughts on that: 1. Saying sora will replace animators is like saying canva will replace graphic designers? 2. Following this logic then every person with a camera should become photographers. But not all people with cameras are photographers. Sora is a tool. And if resolves ethical concerns it may become a good tool to use. We’re honestly not bothered by it. So continue to learn animation! 😄
It's a really good show of character to not only try to understand where everyone is coming from, but to also recognize your own personal flaws and how they help you to relate to a situation. Not enough people are willing to do that, so kudos to you. Edit: This comment was supposed to be sent to a different video but UA-cam is so broken that it ended up here instead. This video is great regardless lol
Hi Tom! Glad you liked it. 😊 I consider teaching as an art. It takes time and skill to arrange and structure the whole tutorial. Glad to know someone noticed it. And you're welcome! 😊
Thank you so much!! I am in my first year of animation school, the lecturers are all 3D-based, so 2D work is largely self-directed. I have been looking for a video like this for a while, really looking forward to using this tutorial for my next project!
Awesome! Go for it! ❤️ We would be happy to know if you actually did animate 😊 Don't worry if it's going to be bad, we all started at being bad at something, but with practice and repetitions, you'll get good at it. The important thing is you have fun while doing it 😊
"The longest road is usually the fastest". very wise words, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience for free, excellent video. Liked and subscribed! 😀
This was just great - you packed this with so much useful information. Really well done. I love what you said about "the longest way being the fastest", it is so true, and it also seems to produce a much better result, in particular, because of how free you can be when rough sketching. I have also tried skipping the process and have gone right to starting with polished frames and I have been so focused on making them perfect, that the result becomes very rigid and void of personality. Terrific video, Marvin 👍
Glad you liked it! I've learned the hard way 😅 I've tried the long way and the shortcuts. And ironically the long way is the faster way 😄 That's why I don't skip the sketch phase anymore 😄 Thanks for watching the video!
As a Former Animator. Reference real life is a must cos Thats what animation is the animating of life. Even if it exaggerated, an object it still needs too feel lifelike.
i dont animate at all used to do stickfigure flipbook animations on post it notes...lol i remember Wacom tablets didnt have any screens! its amazing how far technology has come this tutorial really hits the ramp when you start adding shading and FX. great vid man.
For the Reference Point: He is basically saying that you could use a dynamic pose or movement for your art style. Have a great day fellas. Also, W content!
If you wanted to texture the shadows (assuming the colour is flat) you can duplicate the layer and use an extract to essentially solo that colour then add on like a blur and a noise alpha to get a sort of grainy look.
this is awesome! I think another way to go frame by frame watching a youtube video is to go backwards 1 frame, type the coma (,) and to go forward 1 frame, type the period (.)
This was a great watch! You made the information seem approachable and really helped to direct the different aspects of what creating a project looks like! Thank you for your help!
You're welcome! 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. We put so much effort into these videos and glad that it has done it's purpose of teaching and sharing our knowledge.
OMG! The way it was explained is sooo easy pizzy to understand ❤️ After many years I have stopped working in Animation Industry now my mind is refreshed. I literally forgot how to animate😅
Glad to know that. 😊 Yes, frame by frame animation can be very intimidating. But it's less scary if you take it one concept at a time. Then you'll realize that it's not hard, it's just time consuming. And the more you animate, the less scary it becomes 😊
You have definitely inspired me. I mainly do music videos right now but I’ve always loved drawing and I think I’m gonna dive into animation because of this video. Thank you for giving us such a good process to work with 🙏
Man I hope this video brings you a lot more attention. What a tremendously informative video for a newbie like me. I will be watching it many more times. THANKS MARVIN!
Hi! very imformative video! also I just wanted to make the highlights effects simpler, you can just use "layer styles" and then choose "inner shadow" you can change their blending mode to color dodge or any mode you prefer, its a perfect and simpler way to get that look, plus you can use it for lighting and shadows as well! I hope this helps. I love your videos jeep it up!
Hi! Yes that's another way. That's actually a good way too! 😊 I still prefer the alpha mattes method, as you can control it more freely and even scale or distort it when needed, and it's quick if you want the mask inverted. But if you just want the highlights like the one I showed in this video, then your method is much simpler and quicker to do. 😊
It depends cause anime is still all hand drawn basically with only the good anime using cgi for difficult stuff which is fine I personally think that ai will never be able to replace animation for a long long time I do think maybe centuries in the future maybe but right now I think ai can maybe replace short ads and still with small animation but full like anime cartoons stuff like that never or incredibly long time

if i try to animate a scene from films and stuff then u mean i cannot directly copy the moves?
@@Nkit_1lmao yes you can who’s gonna stop you? Just don’t claim them as your own I guess
Eh ima do my own thing
@@37H662 lmao then why animate then separately, can I not just directly copy paste them and tell that this is from this movie or whatever 💀
this is the most important tutorial I've even watched on the technical side of digital 2d animation, thank you so much for posting it
i dont think its worth to learn to animate nowadays. Sora Ai is coming soon and it will surely dominate the animators
