Ever find animation overwhelming? It can be useful to have a simple process to approach your work. This class explores my process for keyframing and is based on a common keyframing process in the animation industry. It might not be for everyone but I use it almost daily and have found my work has become significantly faster and easier once I started using it.

As a beginner animator I've been struggling with timing a lot and I've never seen anyone explain it using this method and just after watching this video I feel like I've learned so much. A++ I can't wait to watch more
Subscribe!💗
As a beginner which software you are working
@@Tatekingdom9 adobe animate but I've also been experimenting with the grease pencil in blender
Can you show me some of your work
@@hhboyo does adobe animate cost money :(
BRO YOU EVEN ANIMATED THE SOFTWARES HUD !
I worked in 2d animation for 9 years and I can't still explain it like what you did here. And also you are right at the start of the video.. It is still overwhelming even if you have experience. I highly recommend your teaching for beginners and refreshers. a short Animation Survival kit
Hey thanks man. Haha this 2 minute explanation took about two years of rewriting to get right. I'm glad it resonated :)
@@AlexGriggAnimation teaching animation (the practical way) and doing (pro) animation is a different skill. I'm happy (and envious) you get the same skill. Keep it up. I'm gonna watch more of your content to refresh.
Hey guys which software should I start as a beginner
@@Tatekingdom9 doesnt matter which software actually. The principle is wjhats important.
I really love your teaching style! It's concise and very clear. I enjoyed this class a lot
I'm so glad!
Indeed, it's really appealing! Cheers and keep up the good work
Love this! Breaks down the animation process so well. Sometimes I get lost when animating, so its great to have a list to keep on track.
that note about the perception of the length of the breakdown is one of the most valuable tips ive learned about animating this year. Been learning for a long time and that made a lot of concepts i've been mulling about click in a satisfying way. Thank you for your work!
I’ve been struggling with understanding how to adjust timing in my animations and the way you explained it has been so helpful, thank you so much for such a digestible break down!
i'm learning so much from your videos..... searching online yours is by far the easiest to follow. there's a lot of content out there, but the way in which you organize your lessons and explain the steps makes so much sense and makes animation feel less intimidating.... thank you.
I really appreciate how much effort you put in to make the video look so perfect
I can't wait to see more
These are amazing! I stopped doing animation for a while and I'm gearing myself towards it again. Seeing your videos bring nostalgia and comfort and also are pushing me towards trying again
Being an animator, i feel the things are very well put in here. Every animator gets stuck into same things at beginning and you are explaining those really good with the visual representation. Im recommending this to all my fellow animators. Keep it up and all the best!!
Thanks again!! Loving these animation videos and I can't wait for each one ❤
Happy to hear that!
Yes I'm so glad I found this! I've never seen another guide describe timing with holds like this. Anything involving a timing chart always assumes we're using a consistent timing (on ones, twos etc.)
Best series of tutorials on UA-cam. As an aspiring animator, these videos are really helpful to help streamlining my process! Thanks, Alex!
Thank you for sharing this process Alex, helps a lot! 💯
I'm re-watching this yet again. And this truly is the most helpful thing I've scene on animating. It just gives you such a nice tool to understand how to do what you want to do. I love it
Hey thanks Hussein, I'm so glad that it's helping :)
Love your art, animation and teaching style Alex. Such great work man!
Guys get Alex's class. Its amazing!!! I just finished it and am going back to binge this content.
Alex, you content is GOLD make more videos and classes please, we need your mad skillz taught to us!¡!¡!

Hey thanks:) glad you enjoyed
Beautifully made and so well explained! Thank you so much for sharing these classes.
This was always a concept I struggled with and couldnt visualise the process. Thanks for walking us through this, key framing seems less spooky now
Absolutely great video. Congrats. I loved this. So simple yet TONS of informations. Great job.
AMAZING! The blocking phase is so inspirational. Impeccable descriptions 👌👌😍🤩
Animation student from Paris here ! Your videos are really amazing. They're so well put together and informative. They help me check up on my technic in a fun and quick way.
Thanks for your videos, it's really wonderful people can have access to such informative videos for free.
Keep up the good work ❤️
Hey I'm glad you like them :)
I watched millions of videos about animation...
But this is the best video ever
Thank you so much for your hard work
So grateful

Excellent stuff. Explained well, great production quality, encouraging perspective on learning. Top notch!
Just found your channel, and already see it's a gem! Really like this type of presentation! Great job!
loving your breakdown. I am speaking with my artist now i think we will be using this process for our indie studio!!! thanks so much!!!
Thank you for making this class! It clears lots of doubts!!
I’m starting to try some animation rn, and I’ve been a bit clueless recently. But this channel has been very helpful and I have more of an idea now! Ty so much
I just found this channel and I loved this video. I'm new to animation but what a great class and such a good rendition of the topic. Thanks.
Really really helpful man, even for someone who has been animating for a while. The description of the timing between key frames and breakdown with the ball was great
Hey thanks Sam. I didn't learn this technique until I'd been animating professionally for about 4 years. Im glad you found it useful!
This is the best example of how to take blocking to a final animation in a clear understandable way that I have ever seen. Good Job
Hey thanks jasper :)
This series is so good, Alex!
Thanks for this Alex!
This is a HUGE help! By far the cleanest explanation i have seen. for someone like me who is just starting out, i thank you so much for sharing this!
This is an astonishingly useful and engaging explaination. This is seriously gonna help my workflow, many thanks
This is amazing, not into Animation but I might just try to learn because of this video!
Can't wait to see what you make!
Alex Grigg. You are an amazing instructor. Thanks for this.

Bro, you're so underrated. like you need more attention! you really take good classes
Jesus this tutorial is smooth... Pleasure to eyes and senses. Thanks!
THANK YOU! your videos are so helpful and made animation fun for me again after I lost motivation :)
This was super helpful and definitely makes tackling animation a little more palatable. Everytime I try to do an animating exercises I always get confused on where to add frames and if I'm even doing it right lol
Great explanation, you are a very good teacher Alex.
Great video! Makes animation more accessible
I really learn from your videos. It's very understandable.
Woah what a talented illustrator and animator !
Awesome video! Your art style is cool which also made this more enjoyable !
This did help alot, I did alot of frame by frame, but it's more facial expressive/ science fiction / Effects type of animation. This is great tutorial for anatomy movement animations.
oh my god this tutorial CHANGED EVERYTHING!!! thank you so much!!!!!!!
Amazing!!Absolutely Amazing!!I LOVE IT!
Just amazing work!
Bravo! I was stubbornly looking for software explanations, but your detailed explanation of the process help me understand why and what I had to do, and not how (click here or there). The software is secondary to the process of ideation and storyboarding.
omg I'm so glad I found this channel!
I appreciate the homework at the end of the video. Often, I'll watch a tutorial and just think about what I learned, but the call to action pushes us to actually try out what we've learned. It's fun too, thank you!
The best animation video! thank you!
Alex, you're the man. Thanks!
Highest learning value on UA-cam! 🙌
This was extremely helpful, Thank you so much❤
Oh god. Oh dear god!!! This is the best teaching I've ever seen here on UA-cam. Your video's are absolutely invaluable! Thanks so much for sharing!
Hey thanks mate :)
amazing channel! thank you , it was very informative, will put it into practice!
This is a really high quality video. Really worth the wait.
Hey thanks so much
This is gold. Thank you!
Love this video serie. Best channel i have seen when it comes to drawing animation!
Hey thanks Rufus!
Kept on watching animation tutorials but always ends up with ur vid 😂 its fun and you can understand it clearly. Love it!
I enjoyed seeing how you could do the blocking phase in After Effects - I spent a lot of the episode wondering how you could do it in AE, and lo and behold you covered it! As always, an amazing video
Haha Thanks for sticking with it. I should have covered some of that earlier in the vid probably :)
That was really helpful and enjoyable! Thanks for sharing :)
Impressive skills! Thank you for sharing.
Amazinggg. I love it. Now im excited and scared to do it
Awesome video great workflow especially for any software thank you!
thanks man, this massively applies to 3d animation.
just fantastically explained. I see aaron blaise do it like this all the time on his livestreams with the breakdown so I picked it up, but you verbalizing like this is so great
Yeh it's definitely something you'll start noticing more now you're seen it once. Check out the blocking for Pixar and Disney 3d films. They're using the same technique
Even with stop motion there is a blocking stage. It's good to try out timing and it's also good for testing if the scene is possible with the puppet because it is a physical object. Like a rehearsal. And you take photographs as you go. And using the stills that you took they can be used as targets when animating the final shot.
One word for this guy
LEGEND
this is such a good video ! i’m learning animation by myself with youtube videos and this was really cool. after animating a lot on flipnote i tried different softwares but rn i like to draw on krita so i think i’m gonna focus on it for animation too ☺️
Thank you so much, timing and Blocking its the hardest part for me since i usually just feel the movement and go for straight ahead, but usally is not convenient, tysm this istuff is not in the books at all
Pure gold!
This is very easy to understand ^^ 🌸
Ok… for real, this is EXACTLY what I have been searching for!!! Thank you x 1000000000000000000^9
thanks so much im trying to practice for stop motion I cant really inbetween as I would in 2d but all the information is super clear, important and beautifully exemplified thanks for that!!
Love this video
Worked smoothly, tysm
this was a great video!
