- We are entering the coldest time of year here in New England! As the temperature drops most prefer to spend their time inside. Me, I get all excited about it! Time to go camping. This time I decided to give it a go without any shelter for protection. Just my sleep system. Turned out to be a fun night testing gear and capability. My sleep system is a Thermarest z lite pad, A Nemo Tensor insulated air mattress and my trusty Outdoor Vitals 0º Summit sleeping bag. Test and trust your equipment.
Testing gear and your comfort level is a good thing to do. I encourage it. However, please do not put yourself in a dangerous situation outside the range of safety. Learn your capabilities in a safe fashion. Test and develop your skills, know your capability before you put them to practice in a situation without a safety net. Enjoy

Great Polar Jammer color! I've read that Flor Pink is more visible than Hunter orange.

Winter here has been crazy, not much snow but wild wind and rain. We get 4 or 5 spring thaws per year! I love New England!

I learned that it's crucial to have and trust your equipment and knowledge in extreme conditions. If anyone survived "Reforger" in Europe you'll know what I mean. Awesome video brother thank you for sharing and thank you for all that you do
Equipment and the knowledge to use it is life saving stuff. I do this stuff for fun. I can not even begin to comprehend what those fine soldiers were subjected to. I am very grateful for our freedom and all the soldiers that fought/fight for it. Thank you

Slept in the backyard last week testing a new tent, it got down to the forties. Slept great had fun not nearly as manly as you. It only gets so cold in Georgia. You the man.

That looked awesome, quick pack up in the morning too with no tent and stove to put away. On the other side of the country it feels like winter is already over. I’m hoping we get some more cold weather though.

It is a platypus 4 liter water tank. An awesome piece of gear. been using it for years and years. Like, more than 10 lol. I highly recommend
Good go of it, something I want to try. Got my new sled, mean piece. Doing some suspension adjustments and modifications for camping equipment. Very difficult, no more rack and saddle bags. Seek Outside is debuting a glass door soon, you were ahead of the game. Good luck with incoming weather my snow brother.

I think I need a nalgene flask. Ever make cowboy candy/candied alopeneos? I made some from last summers grow and they're so darn good especially on a grilled cheese!
I have had candied jalapenos, but I have not made them myself. Perhaps this is the year.....

I will be hot tenting with my friend from New Hampshire next week. Should be in the high teens outside of Gorham. It will be good to be back in the northern woods for a couple of nights. I haven't done a winter cowboy camp in years. Last time a couple of friends went out together with me to a neighborhood field in Bristol, RI. We built a fire and slept on the snow. It was zero degrees. The neighbors thought that we were crazy. We were! 😁
There is a certain sense of freedom from cowboy camping that I really enjoy. How was your hot tent adventure?
Answer is on your latest video. I had a rough week after my campout (car troubles in Conway - long wait for a simple alternator installation. I would have done it if I had tools with me. Luckily, my friend and his girlfriend put me up for four nights. Just catching up on outdoor videos.

@@joshmcginnis8684 I use this groundsheet because I had it. Lol. It is a groundsheet from an old tent I used to have. I kept the groundsheet, poles and pulled all the hardware off the tent before I threw it out. I like the size of it too.

Ground sheet recommendations please
I use an old groundsheet from an old tent. Any groundsheet will do. Tyvek works great as well.

No one wants to be out here watching me sleep at night. I was on a large chunk of Private property. And, I am always prepared for any altercations.
Why wouldn't you remove the snow from the ground and get a layer of pine boughs to keep your sleep system better insulated from the ground? Also, why so far from the fire? I enjoy Winter camping but in a more cozy sense.....
No need for the pine boughs. That pad combination I used is insulated and comfortable. Much more so than pine boughs. Using pine boughs is a lot of work and a complete waste of resources unless in a survival situation. If I used pine boughs every time I went out there wouldn't be any left....that is where good gear comes in.
I don't put my system closer to the fire because it is not necessary, the sleep system does the work. It is a lot less work than trying to keep a fire going all night. And, all it takes is one spark to ruin that air mattress. A good sleep system is the key.
