      Boat traffic is nuts. Wind is always a concern anywhere. This is a lake worthy of seeing. You should do it. As big a lake as it is, even if the weather is nasty, the way the lake is orientated you never have to put yourself in big water if you don't want to. That is nice.

    Love your life Justin what a nice situation at Black Duck Cove with some Adirondack and Lady Slipper all so interesting to an Australian. Don't mind a great shower storm if you can keep dry. 2.30 a.m. a bird? Your homestead must be plentiful around now. Nifty rod holder and love your craft. Love the powdered milk too.

      I love adverse conditions! Especially under a tarp! It is quite the experience, especially when it goes well. Lol. The rain let off for just a bit overnight and there was an owl that seemed to be directly over head! He was very close to me. He was chatting to his owl buddy across the lake! The conversation went on for approximately 5 minutes. I just sat there in my hammock listening. I didn't want to disrupt at all. Just listen. It was magical. then the rain picked back up..
      The homestead is cranking! Produce is going nuts! We put 17 meat chickens in the freezer about a month ago. We have 2 turkeys, 15 egg laying chickens, 3 pigs and 2 lambs this year. Shaping up to be a real good year.
      Good thing I figured out the rod holder on the last dat of the trip🤣 Oh well, it will come in handy on the next one.
      The canoe is awesome! I love it. Thank you. And powdered milk is amazing!!!
      Good to hear from you MaryElizabeth from Australia! I hope you are doing well

    Nice! I haven’t been to Cranberry in 40(?) years. Looks way different now. I’m actually surprised that you had such great luck with campsites on a heavily populated lake.
    In my experience, the ‘Trout Troopers’ in NY are pretty decent folks. As long as you have your license and aren’t a jerk, you should expect a pleasant experience like you had with that Ranger.

    JP brings the fancy cocktail again. Definitely someone to share a trip with.
    I love those UCO candles that you or JP have.
    Man do you eat well on your trips.
    Yes, it was a monster fish that took your full rig. It's better to believe that.
    Major a-hole for destroying a fire pit at a legal site.
    P.S. I hope you're getting a commision from Nemo's 2024 moonlite elite chair that uses it's groundcloth as a case.

      Major a hole That shit pisses me off......and first I have heard about the chair. No commission. I knew it was just a matter of time when I made that video. I knew it. But I am a bit surprised that Helinox wasn't the company to do it. lol

    Cranberry Lake is an absolute gem in the Adirondacks. Plenty of campsites that are well taken care of, great fishing, of course just great scenery all around. Campsite 41 near the Ranger School is a great site as well but more than likely you won't be by yourself there. It has a great lean-to, fire pit, dock and an outhouse. It sits high so standing water is minimal during the pouring rain. There are huge Northern Pike in Cranberry, also for smallies, in-line spinners has always worked for me up there.

    • @ItsGoodintheWoods
      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Рік тому +1

      We took a look at 41 on our way in. Being there is a lean to there and a trail that leads to it, and a dock, we figured we should just keep paddling. I have heard multiple people say there are huge pike in there. I'm almost positive one latched on to my lure on the last day. I saw my pole bend over then snap right back. Just like that my rig was gone. A very quick clean break. Lure, swivel, all of it, gone. I wish I had been using a steel leader.

    Any time out is almost always a fun time out, even a non wilderness experience. Bummer it was cut short. The CL50 around the lake is definitely a wilderness experience! I hiked it last year and loved the remote areas around ponds and just a loon for some noise.

      @ItsGoodintheWoods  Рік тому +1

      The CL50 is now on my list of things to do. I am sure it has to be a bit more remote feeling than the lake does. But it was still a fun time on the water. How many people would you say you crossed paths with on the 50?

      @@ItsGoodintheWoods I hiked it the last weekend of August and saw one or two people a day in my 3 days on trail. The most was like 7 people in one day who were just day hiking near Cat Mountain. So, like no one and that was a weekend! I went counter clockwise from Wanakena and everyone was going clockwise so it was just in passing. I hustled finishing it on the 4th morning because storms were on the way. Mileage per day was 16/16/20/3. Would love to go back again and slow down a bit but hey, I crushed it.

    Grew up pretty close to Cranberry. Even now there's not much boat traffic except around early July, just don't choose the height of the season as the time to go. Nice enough lake but remember it's not really a lake and was created by a dam more than a century ago. That means the shore is rough and often not good accress. The State Park campground is nice and the hike up Bear Mountain is good.

      I still have her. I will only be using her on selective trips. At 21lbs she is a delicate one. I am sure it can handle a fair amount of abuse, but given the cost of it, I am not really willing at this point to abuse her. I could have used it on this trip, but I wanted to get a feel for this one on good open water. And being there isn't any portaging involved on this trip, I was loaded up pretty good. PSP is a nice spot. Unfortunately, to see nothing but nature requires a lot of work, in the form of getting to it.
      I would suggest Aziscohos lake in Maine. Big enough to spend quite a bit of time on. Lots of undeveloped shore line and a lot of campsites to choose from. It is a really nice lake.
      If you are a bit intimidated by Aziscohos, perhaps look into Branch Pond in VT. A smaller body of water, but nice campsites to choose from in a wonderful setting. A completely undeveloped shore line. It is well worth the visit.

    Is that the Brass UCO candle lantern? It better be. So classy! I have the same.
    JP's Lady Slipper drinks are a riot. 🩰
    Did you sell this Old Towne to step into that Wenonah or do you keep multiple canoes? When you talk about not having to worry about dragging the Old Towne and beating it up, are you contrasting it to the Wenonah and it's fragility not allowing you to do that, or some 3rd canoe you have?
    Great trip and nice menu!
