@@kingboostudios I really think a lot of us expect the reaction to Path Of Totality, from someone who is listening to the entire discography in order, because that change becomes too shocking even for the electronic arrangements that Korn had been having.

This album is definitely a grower. I still love it for songs like throw me away and tearjerker, especially. The next one is similar so just a bit of a heads up. Still some great songs and the percussion on some of them are fantastic. Then again, they have the legendary Terry bozzio on drums for much that album. You'll more than likely like the album after (Korn lll), but maybe not the path to totality which comes after. But when Head returns, their albums get heavy again. This was the last album with David Silveria as drummer.
Coming Undone was a big hit at the time, on the next album things didn't get any better, they had good songs like Evolution, Kiss and Sing Sorrow, but they weren't very successful.
The next album (Untitled, but several called Korn II, later you'll understand why) was an experimental album, its sound goes more towards rock and ballads. There were only 3 official members in the band when they recorded it, they had collaborations from other drummers and Davis himself for percussion. They were helped on tour by Joey Jordison of Slipknot.
The 2005-2010 era of Korn is a bit boring, but it has good things that I know you'll appreciate.

A little bit of housekeeping for Korn and this album.
    Head had left
Korn signed a new 5 year record deal with Virgin Eecords one of the first 50/50 deals as part of the new Korn EMI Partnership.
Jonathan had a much bigger role in the songwriting.
Korn had drafted in The Matrix pop song writing team to help co write and co produce.
Attcus Ross wrote and produced some of the tracks.
To help promote the album they were I believe the first band ever to perform live on a flight from London to New York.

If you can get through the next couple of albums there is a massive resurgence from KoRn thereafter, particularly when Head rejoins.
The album The Nothing is a masterpiece, great variance & very, very emotional (given it was written in the aftermath of Jonathan's ex-wife and his mother both passing). KoRn at their best some 25yrs later.

I enjoyed your reactions and reviewing this album by Korn, which has been my favorite band for so many years, so I will break this album down right here, right now:
    1. Twisted Transistor
Nice one, you can immediately feel, they are trying something different again. they produced this album with the same producer who produced albums of Britney Spears (if you re-listen knowing that, it does make sense).
    2. Politics
It has such an interesting start where I felt, this could be cool, but gradually developed to a song that I don’t care about. They produced this album with the same producer who produced albums or Britney Spears, and while listening to this song, I was thinking, maybe that was not a good idea.
    3. Hypocrites
Here you have a little bit of the heaviness I have been missing on this album, so far my favorite, I enjoy the oriental vocal line, but again I agree, something is missing. It is also the speed: The live versions are notably faster, and this song played faster is so much better. I recommend to listen to the live-versions.
    4. Souvenir of Sadness
Again not bad, but I agree with what she says about „hollowness“, I think it is a good word to describe why I am still not super-impressed. Gotta say, I found Hyprocites heavier, not this one to be the heaviest so far, as she said. I also wouldn’t say his vocals are too predictable, almost on the contrary (the way he starts Politics, for instance, totally caught me off guard, but unpredictable is not always good). Probably you are much rather referring to the variety of how Davis usually uses is voice, from crying to laughing to screaming like insane, from deep voice to high pitch and so on, I would agree with that.
    5. 10 or 2-Way
It’s funny that you say this one is your favorite so for, because this one or Politics is my least favorite that far, albeit the bridge I find not bad, and of course when I first listened to it, I freaked out hearing the bagpipes in the end. I guess they were only added in the end of some songs as a nostalgic element for Korn-fans, but they it incorporated to a more „futuristic“ sound, so it sounds familiar enough, and yet different enough.
    6. Throw me Away
Even though it is the softest song so far and I have been really missing Korn’s heavy stuff, this is my favorite so far. The verses are nice, the chorus is catchy, the bridge sounds more creepy and haunting but Davis' is singing even higher notes here.

    7. Love Song
So different, typical Korn, yet different, can keep up with previous song. I agree still waiting for something, want an aggressive punch of energy, but Love Song or Throw Away, one of these two is my favorite so far.
    8. Open Up
I wish they had the dark atmosphere like in the previous songs of this album, especially Love Song. I thought track number 7 would lead to something in a similar direction, but the girl’s reaction in the video with the acoustic sound in the end sums up my feeling... like "WTF?". The scatting in the end was again a nostalgia-plus, even if it sounded almost too experimental for me.
    9. Coming Undone
Thought it was not bad when first listening to it, and started appreciating it even more when I listened to it more often. Decent song, another cool live-song.
    10. Getting Off
This song is again so different with several surprise elements. I love about Korn how they experiment, but in this album I feel like sometimes it is almost too much of experimenting, the result is not as great as in their first albums, maybe this can be regarded as an act of „despair“ after David Silveria left. I agree that it’s cool when he brings in variety in his voice, like the unexpected death growls shortly before the chorus. Such variety I felt was missing especially in Open Up, and it just didn't sound enough like Korn to me. Getting Off: Not bad, but where is the song that makes me go like wow?
    11. Liar
Wow! What you have been saying many times up until that point, the things that are missing, it’s almost the end of the album, but it is finally all there in this song: Heavy riffs, catchy melodic chorus, old school Korn, but fused with new elements with their new found „electronic fetish“. Easily my favorite on this album that far and I knew the first time listening to it that it will probably not be topped.
    12. For No One
I mentioned how Britney Spears had the same producer before. Here it is the most obvious: Listen to the verses and imagine Britney’s voice singing it, could have been from a Britney-Album. Just not what you would expect as a Korn-Fan style-wise and my least favorite. Any song coming from Britney I might like more.
    13. Seen it all
Interesting, sinister atmosphere, the vocals are again so different from all the rest. The song is not bad, but especially love the bridge of this song, one of the great, great moments on this album, beautifully composed, plus it sums up the cover of the album if you listen to the lyrics.
    14. Tearjerker
A very courageous effort. The haunting voice effect in the verses are cool. Especially like how the almost entirely soft song builds up to this more dramatic and louder ending hat finally sounds like Korn again. Still I find the song just okay. Like the girl says, for the most part it doesn’t sound like a Korn song.
I can highly recommend the Bonus track „Eaten Up Inside“, which in my opinion is one of the best songs on the entire album. The album as a whole, when speaking about Korn’s first twelve albums at least (need to listen to the 13th and 14th album more often), is actually my second least favorite album of Korn (only the „Untitled“ album I found worse).

When you start your videos with a clip taken from a moment from some point later in the reaction, I’m always curious to see which song the clip you use ends up coming from. With the clip you used for the start of the video asking if Korn finally reached the point of insanity with the album, I was thinking “I bet you anything that moment came from the end portion of the song Open Up. I gotta give myself a little pat on the back for correctly predicting what moment on the album that was. 😄

This album is very interesting. I like some parts and there's some I do not. When Molly said it felt like it was missing something. That's how I felt as well. I understand Head left the band before this so they were down a man. But it still feels like something was missing. And if you felt that way towards this album, you will definitely feel that with the next. Untitled is definitely Korn going through the motions. David Silveria was out, so drumming duties would be handled by either Jonathan Davis, Brooks Wackerman, or Terry Bozzio, which makes for a very inconsistent album. Korn were a 3 piece on that band, and it certainly sounds like it. Korn were basically running at 60 percent and going through a lot of personal issues. Jonathan Davis had nearly died on the tour leading up to that, because he had a blood disorder. David had just left, and wasn't responding to the band. There was back and forth between Head and the band, and I think there was some bitterness at that time. The album was a success in a way (charted at number 2 on the Billboard 200), and it did have some great tracks. But inconsistent production, song quality, and an overall odd mix made Korn sound like they were a fraction of the wall of sound they used to be.

But I’ll also say that there are definitely missing elements. I really like the pace you set for yourself when you do these album reactions when you’re doing a band’s discography in chronological order. Like you don’t just burn through each one in a short span of time and get them all jumbled together and not be able to retain what you’ve heard. And from things I’ve seen you say in the comments you reply to in videos, it sounds like you listen to some stuff more after your initial review? So it seems like you give yourself enough time to digest each album before moving to the next one. But they aren’t spaced so far apart to where it’s been a really long time since the last one. So like they are all spaced out pretty evenly. And I don’t just mean Korn but the band discographies you do in general.
Anyway, this was a good review of the album. Im glad you liked Tearjerker because that’s easily my favorite song on the album and one of my favorite Korn songs just in general.

The bagpipe interludes are brilliant in my opinion. It depends on how you perceive the music, i see it as a Korn in Wonderland type story, where you get to dream about their music, but as with dreams, everything is mixed up and makes no sense, that's how korn's sound is more coloured, distorted and chopped up on this album. and those interludes tie the bagpipe trademark again in a very dreamlike weird way. I listen to korn since 98 and funny enough this album gets the most plays from me in the end. I guess it is my favorite after all, though i wouldnt have expected it hahaa

This was also the first album since Head left the band in kind a not great breakup. He left to go and experience sobriety for the first time and also his new found relationship with god. They said with this album there were trying to experiment with a new sound because with Head not being there Fieldy had to take more of a supporting role instead of doing his own thing. Untitled is one of my favorite albums from them, and it’s also the first album without their drummer so it’s just the three of them left.

That "quality" you say feels like it's missing is the unsung hero of Korn, Brian "Head" Welch, one of the founding guitarists. He left the band after Take a Look in the Mirror and a TON of Korn's trademark sound and songwriting left with him. He would not return until 2013's The Paradigm Shift and that's when the band really got back to some really great music. Head's contributions cannot be understated.

When Brian Head Welch left the band, Korn really didn't know how to be a band.
And it shows in their next couple releases.
Although Jonathan Davis I think carried Korn on his back after Brian left,
Jonathan was the highlight of Korn during the middle portion of their career, while the rest of the band was just bland.
See You on the Other Side was the first Korn album I purchased so I do adore this album, and it's difficult for me to find its faults.

I like a couple songs on this album, but as a whole it's easily on the bottom of my Korn discography ranking. This was a really awkward time for the band, a lot was going on. A bunch of people in the comments have brought up most of what changed. To add to it:
Head left the band (which blindsided them) and this was Munky's first time writing alone which was a huge adjustment for him. Take A Look In The Mirror didn't sell as well as expected, marking the end of Korn's reign in mainstream music (the previous 3 albums were massive). Tastes changed and they felt like they had to try something new, so they hired The Matrix to produce this album who are best known for working with pop musicians (Avril Levigne, Rihanna, and Shakira, it's a big list). Lauren Christy, 1 of 3 in The Matrix, has worked on many Korn albums since. I believe she works closely with Jonathan.
David (the drummer) hated the direction of this album, he didn't want to work with The Matrix, among other things. This was their 7th album in 12 years with nonstop touring in between. He felt it was too different from their sound and you can hear the difference in his drumming compared to the other albums. He left the band after they finished touring this album. This album also sounds off because the production changed Fieldy's bass tone. He's buried on almost every track (which has happened a few times since). As you've noticed in your listen through, this album is much tamer than their previous work. There's no bounce from the percussion and very little grime in the production (I call it the Creep factor) as a whole. This album didn't sell well either.
