Sounds great dude. Im a drummer and i gotta say the $100 drum tuner from tune-bot has changed the game for me. Accurate readings off of every lug. Takes the guesswork out and lets me tune my toms to intervals perfectly every time. also lets you control your decay by setting resonant head to a fifth up from batter head easily, for example. Highly recommend

I did the same thing 3 weeks ago to have my own personal samples. Rented a drum kit for 3 days (a good Sonor Kit) so i had all the time i wanted to gain experience placing mics and record samples. Ended up with a lot of samples with different mics and positions (like Sm57, I5 and e609 on snare top/bottom..they all sound different...i think e609 is killer on snare bottom...and cheap). Got kick, snare, 2 rack toms and a floor tom...a great experience. Then i have a lot of samples to edit, but it will worth it .🤟

That Yamaha snare is a great value instrument. It is cheap, vintage and has a seamless shell.

What OS are you running on that macbook? Also that behringer interface expanded with a cranborne 500 ADAT would be epic levels of awesome sauce

It's running Mac OS Catalina, which is the latest OS it supports. It's a few years old now, but I'm sure it'll be useful for at least a few more years. Afterward, I can use the computer for tracking live performances where I don't need to be up to date with plugins and browsers etc.

Quick question, does that Behringer also act as an interface? Meaning can I use it to have 18 separate inputs for tracking? Or does it get summed into one source?

I used it so I can tell you, yes, you can use all of the inputs and outputs in your daw to record, and send monitor/headphone mix from computer to mixer outputs.

The Xr18 is no longer available (at least i could not get one in Canada) since a few months. I got myself the X18 version ( not rack mountable, more of a desktop unit). Work just the same as the XR version. Beside its large (read LARGE) footprint, this piece of gear is awesome. Very recommended 🤟

Also, a little tip... I have found that the Xr18 (and X18) are not as ''User friendly'' in terms of setup as a regular audio interface ( like a 2i2 or UA Volt). Definitively take some time before you need it to get acquainted.

It's not as straightforward, but it's definitely worth getting used to. It's capable of so many different applications.

Question: At 7:50 you say you are using a one shot version of the sample. Do you always do this when you want to enhance or add something to the actual drum sound (and maybe use a multi velocities version for complete replacement)? And mostly, why a one shot vs a multi velocities?
Also, adding it via parallel look like a kool idea (for subtlety) , instead of printing the samples to a track and blending it with the original (using faders).I will try it for sure. Thanks Bobby 🤟

Great question! I only use one-shots when the snare is very subtle and is blended with something else. I always use round robins when doing complete replacement.

Thanks Bobby, you Rock. I can clearly see the potential of this technique. Definitely gonna try to experiment with this. May come handy, when the mix call for it ..🤟

And by the way, thanks again... "Round Robin" was the word I was looking for..😂🤟
