Creating something WITHIN LIMITS is, in my opinion, one of the most creative tasks you can put for yourself. Ever since I learned of this I always try to set limits for my creative tasks, it really makes you think in different ways than when you might otherwise be inclined. Its true for everything I do from drawing/painting, to woodworking or blacksmithing, to musical pursuits of all kinds!
on the metronome debate.. when I was still in a metal band some years ago we did an experiment where we played some shows with a metronome and some without... as a band, we unanimously decided it was better to play live without the metronome. It gave each song a much more dynamic experience and it showed in our crowd reaction. it was tough at first, but after a while you learn to 'feel' how the crowd is reacting and how fast/slow you should play each section of the song. It made each gig unique and it really helped me grow as a drummer. Getting to know how to react to the audience was a big part of our success at the time.
"If your dream band called you today and asked you if you were ready for an audition in 1 week, would you be ready for it?" Answer - Metallica, yes. Everybody here was born ready for that gig. Metallica is the only band in the world where the best drummer in the band plays another instrument.

I like drums and I’m practicing on practice pad. Eloy Casagrande is an absolute legend. Learning about all these legendary drummers is a blast and interesting.
What makes him the best metal drummer today? It is the fact he is not a metal drummer, but he can play metal music at the highest level. Insanely impossible if you ask me.
Pretty cool your explanation about Casagrande technics. But I prefered when he was at Sepultura, the REAL one of the most important metal band in the world. Slipknot is a "gringo" band, but actually is a mere new metal band, in terms of technic and musical contribution on metal scene. Casagrande isn't a begginer or a YTber drummer, he's ever been a legendary drummer in Brazil.
So the drummer that played for over a decade for one of the greatest metal bands of all time(Sepultura) was just called a youtube drummer? U gotta be kidding me...
I like drums, i actually love drumming and your drumming is the style that inspires me the most, and i actually got some cymbals that you actually play with.
The music scene in Brazil is incredibly diverse, making it hard to find another country with such a rich array of genres. From Samba and Bossa Nova to Jazz, Choro, MPB, Forró, Rap, Heavy Metal, Frevo, Brega, Tropicália, Maracatú, and many more, the list goes on and on. Drummers like Eloy Casagrande, Aquiles Priester, and Igor Cavalera have gained international acclaim, but the country is also home to thousands of other exceptional musicians, from guitarists and pianists to vocalists, bassists, and percussionists, and everything in between. Similar to the US, Brazilians benefit from a unique mix of Southern European heritage, African rhythms, and Indigenous traditions, which makes their music scene so vibrant and dynamic.

As someone who plays multiple instruments and sings/screams these tips apply to any musician. I’m currently working on my secret vocal audition for one of my favorite bands. I would love to sing for them if the opportunity arose but regardless if it ever happens, I’ll have an amazing portfolio of songs to show off my vocal abilities. Maybe some other band will see it who needs a singer or even someone to have as a fill in on tour. The opportunities are out there but you have no chance if you don’t put in the work. I don’t want to look back on life and say, that I didn’t at least try to achieve my dreams. Thanks for the encouragement 🙏🏻

Knk@@EloyBushida
it will come back to bite him sooner than later
@@kamj6607 No it won't. What a silly thing to say.
@@kamj6607 it will only with age, just like everyone else. he has the technique so it'll peak for a long time.
Man, all I can say is thank youuuu, this is a really good quatily content. You just took the time to watch all the Eloy's videos and performances to share his key habits and explain them in detail. This is pure gold!!! Thank you again, you're the kind of musician we all drummers need to keep going through the drum way.
Great video. One thing I'd add is his unique ability to make anything groove. When he played for Sepultura, his drumming on 'Roots Bloody Roots' was so much groovier than the original. The same goes for 'Disasterpiece.' Compare his drumming to Jay's, and you will see it's night and day. Some people may not like it, but I think it's noteworthy.
Man has S tier fast twitch muscle. Simple as.
Wait till you discover Lord Marco and Riccardo Merlini If you think he's S tier lol
Try Mike Smith or Steve Asheim. Living legends, some of the biggest influences on modern metal drumming who came out of the early 90s death metal scene.
@@Admiral_Bongoindeed... toss in pete Sandoval of morbid for a trio
Big fan of Eloy and Sepultura, wish him the best for his Slipknot journey guy is a beast.
the best timing, I'm sitting eating and Gabe post a video about my favourite drummer, thank you)
Eloy: I don't need a metronome... 'cause I'M THE METRONOME
the BEST thing he has is that he ACTUALLY HIT the drums not that shitty triggers. So he is FAST AND NATURAL
I think Eloy has been underrated for such a long time. I still love watching his drum session of phantom self, his energy is unmatched.
I want to see one of these breakdowns for Chris Turner 🤘
This guy made me like Slipknot again. And I like him the more I learn about him. So humble. Respects those before him. So humble. A GREAT model for people to follow for not only drumming. But being a successful human.
Thanks for the video, Enrique Iglesias!
You got some real philosophical perceptions brother.
Probably what I love most about this channel, you're showing/explaining to people the fundamentals of success in all facets of life!
Study and perfect one thing. One skill. And that will propel you into a universe of never ending CRAVE to learn.

I don't how you became a famous enough drummer to do this video but sounds like you need to go back to the drawing board.

I like drums! I started play drum again after a 10 years stop, and now that I am back playing in a metal band, I can't believe that I stopped for so long! That set would really help me along with getting all the tons of gear I need. Cheers!
George Kollias from Nile invented the swivel foot technique.
I doubt he preceded Gene Hoglan.
@@emilholmgrenmusic i love gene hoglan but I havent heard of him inventing this technique.
@@Flugmorph I don't know about "invented", but he was talking about doing it on the making of DVD for Strapping Young Lad's "Alien". You'd have to go looking for old Death footage to see if he always did it.
@@Flugmorph He's certainly used it since way back in the 90s, but I doubt he was the first, haven't seen him using it in the old Dark Angel vids. Steve Asheim of Deicide has been using it since forever, even the early demo days in the late 80s. Doug Bohn, formerly of Suffocation and currently of Pyrexia, too.

13:18 Man to this point up I'll be calling my inner voice Gabe. Seriously, I watched your recent videos and ended up lethargic, thinking about all advices like a never ending loop. Eloy is unreal crazy how much buzz slipknot has again
I just found this channel or series and I am quite impressed with the amount of detail provided, smooth transactions between points, and a general assistance plan to move forward. Great structure and well spoken through all the vids I've watch and I thank you!
People acting like its a surprise Eloy could play for slipknot and like its a huge step up for like a "surprise" drummer to suddenly do it... Slipknot has sooo much more to gain with Eloy than Eloy has to gain with Slipknot. Sepultura invented this style, its an honor for slipknot to have the founding father, not the other way around! Slipknot wouldn't exist without sepultura, so its important to recognize.
Thank you for pointing the.obvious out. People are beyond stupid.
Korn is the father of nu metal... and Korn was inspired by Mr bungle.
@@AkumaClaps Slipknot is barely Nu Metal. Slipknot is Slipknot and wouldn't exist without Sepultura. Early Slipknot also took a lot from Mudvayne and Korn. I know Mr Bungle well and they barely feature in Slipknot's influences. Sorry dude.
@@WomenWearBigUglySquarePantsNow
Clown was an executive producer on Mudvayne LD50 album… so maybe not “took” a lot from Mudvayne but perhaps “give”?
@@tonamg53 Yeah, it's all mixed together, taking and giving from each other. Fair enough, but Sepultura is still the father/mother/parent band.

Ordering drum sticks soon but I like drums
on the metronome debate.. when I was still in a metal band some years ago we did an experiment where we played some shows with a metronome and some without... as a band, we unanimously decided it was better to play live without the metronome.
He's a product of a life dedication and rare talent. GOAT.

Your "one of three drummers that could replace Joey" doesn't include David Diepold. Weird.
Finally...someone who gets it.
7:11 played an entire tour with just his left leg? No hands?
Pretty cool your explanation about Casagrande technics. But I prefered when he was at Sepultura, the REAL one of the most important metal band in the world. Slipknot is a "gringo" band, but actually is a mere new metal band, in terms of technic and musical contribution on metal scene. Casagrande isn't a begginer or a YTber drummer, he's ever been a legendary drummer in Brazil.
HE'S A DAMN MONSTER BRO! No triggers. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG
Exactly.
So the drummer that played for over a decade for one of the greatest metal bands of all time(Sepultura) was just called a youtube drummer? U gotta be kidding me...
Way to miss the whole point of the video...
I like drums, i actually love drumming and your drumming is the style that inspires me the most, and i actually got some cymbals that you actually play with.

He played the MD Festival at 14 years old and was taught by Brazilian metal drummer Aguiles Priester.
I like drums!
This "impossible job of" format as evolved a bit! I like your scaling of how difficult the techniques are.
Luke holland is a beginner compared to this guy
As a self taught drummer the hardest techniques were Jazz and Metal drumming. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Repetition is everything.
I hit hard like Bonzo, I don't dent my heads or break cymbals, but my snare wires tend to break quite fast, I don't have them set tight either cause I know they'll break faster, and my snare drums ring too much when the wires are tight
Solid solid foundation in Latin drumming gave him huge poly rhythmic skills. Then metal built on top of that.
Finally, a comment.
"i like drums" this set is for my son (he is starting a metal band with his friends but they desparatley need a drumset and dont really have the money for one if they/we/i could get it /i/they/we would be SO gratefull) anyway he loves your videos, thank you so much!!!

He just stands out hardwork pays off
You missed his special secret. Those fucking ghost notes 🔥
There are a lot of drummers that use the swivel technique, honorable mention and one of my favorites is Kerim "Krimh" Lechner. You should also check him.
I love your video. It breaks it down for me to understand how to be a better drummer
I like drums! Thanks for the videos. Love watching your career. I've been playing drums for most of my adult life, and I love it. At 57, there's always more to reach for and more grooves and fills to try and master. So much drumming to do. So little time! Make the most of your time, people. It goes by quick.
This is a part that is sometimes not taken into consideration but is essential in an extreme music environment like Slipknot.
Eloy had a great teacher in this area, Aquiles Priester (another world-class drummer but with a more traditional heavy-power metal approach).
Both have absurd technical-athletic development. They see their performances as extreme marathons and give their all day after day behind the drums. As for the performance of both, they are like athletes performing at a high level, sweat, blood and a little isotonic to help.
I have seen them live and that is the way the go. In his first Slipknot gig live he broke 14 drumsticks,.
Wasn't Aquiles Priester trying out for Dream Theater at one point?
Excuse me brother but you forgot to mention an awful lot of drummers around the globe famous or not (yet) that have the same skills and even much more advanced than Eloy Casagrande !
That doesn’t mean that he is a Huge Joy to watch and hear him play !
Just mind blowing….🥁🎶
