The fact that the jack plug is angled up just shows Ibanez understands guitar players struggles...
They’ve been doing that since the JEM’s
The guy who understood this most was Mr. Vai in 1987.
When I, a humble strat player, first discovered Ibanez, my heart burst out my ass and exploded in my pants…right there in the guitar store
Did they make you clean all that up?
@@kamranahmad4592 the momentum from the blast shot me in the air and i burst through the roof of the store like a cannonball
@@alexanderdeadmanscheso your experience with Ibanez was shitty
Damn, I bet that was embarrassing 🤣
Shouldn't have gone to Taco bell before going to guitar center.
I cant wait for next week video "When Strat players discover Gretsch"
Edit: This is just banter mate, I like your content.
I would watch that
You may have just given me an idea 😂
@@mikecole4489 Go for the White Falcon!
Which era Gretsch? Original, Baldwin era, or current Fender era? BTW, I love my Gretsch 9240 Resonator.
G&L is Leo’s final idea of fender. The Comanche, Skyhawks, S-500 are all fender double cut conclusions, the Asat and Espada are the fender single cut conclusions, the doheny and fallout are the conclusions of the offset fender guitars.
CLF is actually the continuation of Leo's work and releases frequent videos from their little performance venue as well as Leo's workbench.
My main axe is the Blues Boy semi hollow. I forget the name of the actual color. It has to do with a 57 Chevy in turquoise
I absolutely love the Ibanez "S" series. Great tones and super light.
Me probably buying the ibanez Sa260fm (if TGB better) for the versatile to play slot of genres
Great guitars
Dude... Your playing has come a long way. And the best part about it is that its not just in the technical sense. You're developing a genuine expressiveness, which is always great to see happen. Keep going!
I bought literally this AZ last week after only playing RGs. Great guitars. Excellent quality
I own 4 Suhrs and this guitar. This guitar absolutely hangs. Maybe not 100 percent, but Ibanez made a great guitar here
When strat players discover Ibanez (specially the AZs), they never come back. Most comfortable neck around.
Oh, absolutely. Most here bitch about something really inconsequential, like the input jack but forget that can use a basic, simple guitar lead with an L shaped end.(duhh?) No problem at all.
I use L input jacks with my strats hahahaha. What really makes a difference to me is the Ibanez neck shape. They are somehow different and more confortable for my playing.
I like the Ibanez ASZ neck but I also like my 🇺🇸 strat neck , it fits my hands ‼️
agreed, currently own ibanez az prestige 2404,fender american standard,PRS se custom 24 ,ibanez grg 270 mod and 1 made by local luthier,AZ is always my fav,coz the roasted maple on the neck and the fretboard are just too damn smooth, cant wait to try SUHR to compare against the AZ
It's such a personal thing. Im 6'2 with large hands, but I still prefer a thinner neck.
School stage band back in 1977 - the other guitarist came in with an Ibanez LP style and it was beautiful. I recently moved from Am Pro II Strat to an AZ2204 and I love it.
The ibanez AZ series is the best.
No joke my only guitars that get real stage time is my az and tele. Sometimes the lp will make it out if I need long sustain stuff but for worship style ambient stuff the az kills it. Especially in the 2/4 position alt sw on/off
I have one of those 1977 Ibanez Les Paul Customs and it’s wonderful.
Thx Mike . Great content 🎸❤️ I’ve been playing for over five decades now and and still improving. I enjoy and share many of the same things that you do. Excellent ❤ SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL
Out of 12 guitars in my house, 5 are Ibanez. Love the quality, price, and innovation. Would love to see a show on the Jemm Steve Vai's guitars.
Just ran across your channel.... Very cool .. love we are just sitting here and talking vibe....love the playing
I have an Ibanez Prestige az2204n and the most recent rg550 and they're my favorite guitars. From the factory neither have required the first bit of maintenance besides string changes. Definitely not the budget approach but they feel and play double their price range imo
Thank you for the information brother! I’ve been playing acoustic guitar for close to 9 years now and am barely going to be getting my first electric soon. This is major for me. Your channel will help me make a decision 😊
Decades ago, I became an Ibanez player. It was a bit less the guitars themselves and a bit more WHO was playing them. Satch, Timmons, Petrucci,Vai, Gilbert - all among my all time fave players. Throw in George Benson, Gambale, John Scofield and so many others. Good enough for them, good enough for me. Then, after owning a few Ibanezes I discovered what great instruments they really are, at often super competitive prices, especially back in the 80s/90s.
Fact: Ibanez has the finest, most plugged in and aggressively effective A&R team in all of the guitar universe. Bar none.
Recently, the Ibanez AZ, Josh Smith T style, Lari Basilio T style and Nita Strauss' S series axes are objectively superb, highly versatile instruments, with the AZ and the Josh Smith T basically outdoing Fender, with both approaching Suhr/Anderson quality at the higher tiers.
Facts.
@Mike: Do a double vid on the latest Vai Pia and Satch Golden Boy models.
It's another story of discovery when you tried that Gotoh bridge and its whammy bar compared to a strat bridge, that thing can be abused almost like a floyd rose when setup properly, and the pitch up and down is super smooth.
I got a Ibanez AZES 40 for my first guitar in stead of a Squier. I did it for 4 reasons mainly.
1. It has the 9 pick-up positions and I wanted super versatility, especially because I wasn’t sure whether I wanted humbuckers or single-coils.
2. It was HSS and I wanted to play all types of different genres.
3. I saw “Tomo Fujita” and “Ibanez AZES” and “lector of John Mayer” next to each other in an article. Enough said😂
4. Everybody else had a Squier and I wanted to stand out. (Yes, very arrogant indeed😂)
Really appreciated this. Alternatives aren't "compromises", or "just as good"...
Just discovered your channel due to the YT algo, and I must say it was just so refreshing to hear someone talking "nerdy" about guitar. A breath of fresh air indeed. -=80)
Just bought one of these a few weeks ago, it’s like my American deluxe strat but more versatile and comfy. Perfect combo of vintage and modern.
Started with an Ibanez GAX30 (low budget guitar). Then bought an Ibanez S470 and fell in love with how it felt to play it. Tried a different guitar but went back to the S series anyways. Now I own an Ibanez S1070PBZ-CLB and Ibanez AEWC400. I plan on buying the Ibanez QX54QM-BSM. In short if someone wants a clean modern sound then Ibanez is a nice go-to choice in my opinion, outside the shredding-oriented series. It has configurations for everybody, from blues, jazz to hard rock and metal. Side note: in my country most people really aren't huge fans of Ibanez, most of them want to get that vintage sound they heard as a child.
I own 5 Ibanez guitars. An RG920QM Premium, RG4EXFM1, RG470, RGAR42TMFM & GRG121BC. I have also owned a few other RGs, RGAs and S models in the past. The first time I saw an Ibanez guitar was about 1990. Watching MTV and a white snake video for the song "fool for your love" came on and I saw Steve Vai shredding on this swirl painted thing with a handle cut into the body. I've been hooked on Ibanez since. I just love them. I don't remember ever playing one I didn't find to be a joy to play.
Love your tones in this.
My first guitar teacher introduced me to G3 when i was like 8/9, he was a huge Malmstein fan. I gravitated towards Vai and Satriani, it's helps that Vai did the guitar for Halo 2's theme. So yeah, I have a soft spot for the Jem.
Boy! I know what you mean about Ibanez. Many years ago I bought an Ibanez JEM 7 / metallic blue. I am a big G3 fan and I love the look and feel of Ibanez. John Petrucci used to play Ibanez. I have also owned a Music Man Steve Morse model. Lots of switches with 11 pickup combinations.
I watched this video after a long day at work and found it highly informative and entertaining. Keep up the well presented videos.
The first "good" guitar I ever got was an RG550. For me it was the Wizard neck that made me love it. Haven't bought another Ibanez in years, but what they're doing with wiring in recent years really has me intrigued.
I got an RG550 Genesis recently. One of the most perfect guitars I've ever played
Still have my '89 RG550. Love that guitar.
i bought a 2013 rg 570 thats japanese made and it sounds absolutely amazing and that super wizard neck is just beautiful. So versatile too
I had a couple of Jems over the years but if I had to pick up another electric, a friends 96 rg550 was amazing. They do it all.
Same! I loved my 550 until I broke the headstock off being dumb.
Dude im so happy you checked out the AZ line. I only have 3 guitars one being a gio rg, and S series, and an rx coming and I want an AZ so damn bad. Ive played them in stores and they feel so perfect. I love how they can be modern yet still keep the core elements of what a strat can be but allow Ibanez to really go far. A JEM and PIA vid would be dope too btw.
Nice job you guys!! The tones sounded great in my headphones.
As usual a very high quality video. Consistently great content.
I've owned 2 Ibanez guitars #1 was a 83/4 RG? Roadstar II and #2 is a 94 Talman. The Roadstar was set up like the one in this video minus the slick electronics. It had 2 single coils and a humbucker in the bridge, volume and tone, one was push-push for coil splitting. This was when Ibanez was still making strat copies, the super strat was in it's infancy. I miss that guitar, I traded it and 2 other relatively cheap guitars for a Korg workstation. The Talman is even more strat like minus the pickups. Mine has 3 lipstick tubes, a 5-way selector, volume and tone. In essence an offset version of that SRV lipstick tube strat. Both had slightly unusual necks for Ibanez, they would be more like a fender than the wizard style that Ibanez is known for.
Jeff Beck said of Ibanez something like they’re great guitars but it’s hard to know which ones which, there’s that many models. They send me one every so often.
Owned an AZ for around 4 years now, with an HH pickups ( Tequila Sunrise finish) . I think they're incredible guitars. I personally think they're great for guitarists who are used to playing strats but want to broaden they're range and learn new or unusual styles of music like fusion etc..
My first guitar was an Ibanez Roadstar II. I've owned dozens of guitars since from various manufacturers, but in the mix was always the occasional Ibanez. Currently I have an AZ2402 in satin black, a powder blue PIA (Blue Powder according to Mr. Vai), an Ibanez SCA classic and an 8570 pink J Custom. They're all amazing guitars and while I may pick up other brands (also a huge fan of ESP)... I always keep my eye peeled for a new Ibanez =)
Just had to comment, it's a while since I've seen one of your videos, and it's incredible how much your playing has improved.
You're awesome Mike. Thanks for the videos
My very first guitar was an Ibanez Rg6003FM. I traded that in on a Fender American Standard Strat, HSS, which I love and still have. Last Fall, I purchased this exact Ibanez guitar and I love it. It is as good as and sometimes better than any of my Fender Strats. It is beautiful, has amazing sounds and is super comfortable to play.
The neck joint on this thing is spectacular.
George Benson's Ibanez GB10 model was the first good guitar I owned. I play PRS guitars mostly now, however, for recording, I have a 1981 Ibanez solid body which has the best Les Paul humbucker tone of any guitar I've ever encountered, and I've encountered many. Ibanez make great guitar and they are more consistent in quality than the other two big names, especially the Japanese models.
I love your channel and playing and insights my man. Great work! Great editing! My local GC has that same Princeton. Need!!!!!
You're playing and your videos have steadily gotten better and better always super inspired by your videos
Whatever you present, you playing is always soul soothing to me.
Dude, I am a way off, rarely on again guitar player / learner. Have never seen one of your vids before. The playing on this video has inspired me to run into the other room and grab my guitar! Great playing, Thanks for the video!
Love your segments Mike. 👍
Agree. When Ibanez went to more traditional neck sizes it was a great move. My MMN1 has the best feeling neck I’ve owned and is an amazing instrument.
Funny thing is I have been an Ibanez player for decades but recently fell in love with EVH guitars. Most notably the pickups.I have recorded 6 tracks with EVH guitars and very impressed with the presence that these instruments possess.
Great episode. Love the description of what that Ibanez can do. I would love to see what your impression of the Steve Vai Pia or Jem.
I have an old Ibanez GIO - I think from the 90s -, very good, good setup, aged well and with the famous "real relic" - it was peeling off with the shows I did.
It's an H-S-H guitar, with a 5-position switch and I think it's extremely versatile. I really like Strats and Tele - and sometimes I prefer a super strat with two Humbuckers, but I can't give up the Ibanez.
Years ago, in my city, Ibanez guitars were the most used by members of dance bands and bar bands, due to their versatility and also the tone they delivered.
There was a pattern of having an Ibanez plugged into a Boss pedalboard (Gt100 or GT8), plugged directly into a line or into a small amplifier microphoned or placed in line.
They were good times.
Anyway, giant comment to admit that I love my Ibanez.
I love your videos, they are teachings with opinions, thank you! ♥
So many great S-type guitars outside of Fender/CBS Corp
Try the buttery MM Silhouette 🤤
I had the opposite experience. All my early electric guitars were Ibanez and I remember playing the one that I loved the feel of the most. Then in my later 20s I finally tried a Strat and LOVED it. Now I play an RG Prestige with that super thin neck and jumbo frets, loaded with vintage Strat pickups.
Awesome vid! I think the AZ is perfect for vintage and modern playing... i have a prestige but tele style, its wonderful! Next one is the AZ 2204 strat style. keep going with your good work on the channel!😉👍🎸
This video happened to be my fist of yours to watch!! Very impressive. Communication straightforward along the lines of 5 watt world. I like your video so much I subscribed. BTW I have been an Ibanez man bass and guitar for over 30 years. My opinion is bias I love the brand. Please do a video on the Steve Via Pia.
I have a 20yr old Ibanez AFS that i just can't put down. Sometimes you really find a gem and the road to discovery is even nicer than the find.
Yes, I remember the first time I saw an Ibanez. It was in 1974 and the guitar was a pre-serial number korina Rocket Roll Flying V. It’s an amazing guitar and I have owned one since 1981. I also have a 1977 Ibanez Les Paul Custom flametop (one year post-lawsuit and before they changed the body shape). Its action is wonderful and it currently has Gibson ‘57 Classics, 500k pots and orange drop capacitors. Killer through a vintage Marshall.
My first Ibanez was A GAX30BK. The first ibanez i ever saw was an SA260, the first ibanez I bought for myself was an RG350dx. I have owned hundreds of ibanez through the years. from rare to common, cheap to prestige. Ibanez is my favorite brand
nice comment. do you have a late favorite one?thank you
My 90s Resoncast AANJ Talmans are my favorites. One has lipsticks in a srat configuration, the other 2 mini humbuckers and a lipstick HSH style. Flat oval necks and a 12" radius make 'em a joy to play, and the Kent Armstrong pups are amazing. Fujigen quality.
My first Ibanez was the THBB10. I really loved Tim Henson and the Look of it. Sometime later when I played it the for tue first time, I instantly fell in love. It‘s so smooth. The only thing is, the gold from the hardware comes off, and it looks very worn off even tho I got it for only 2 years…
Look into gold plating. It's actually really easy to do.
My first Ibanez was the RG421. My second was the RG7421. my third was the as73
Same! Picked it up and instantly fell in love, i've tried dozens of fender strats and it never clicked, but the ibanez az and especially the THBB10 are such a beautiful take on the classic S-Style guitar
For me the only thing that separates the Ibanez is the superstrat from my other Fender Strat collection is the "thin Wizard neck" - it's so comfortable to play especially you can set it up to very low action without buzz or choking. 0.75 to 1mm at the high E on the 12th fret if measured by string action ruler. (which is not possible with a Fender Stratocaster with a 7.5 or 9.5 radius. it will always choke the higher fret bends and will buzz alot if you go lower than 1mm, which is the lowest possible "no problem" action for the Fender. Playability is the thing that my Ibanez Vai models really provides me.🔥
Another thing is the 24 Frets for additional note choices, but other than that the Fender Stratocaster or Comache GL Strats still Rules in terms of Versatility, TONE, Practical usage, Legacy and overall appeal.... Nothing beats the Strat on those categories.🎸
Oh so not true I have a strap with a 9.5 and I set it up at 65 and I guarantee you it bends no buzz's great sound you just need a better tech
@@johnmeeks9308 I actually had a new Fender Stratocaster Custom Shop, which I asked the luthier/guitar tech to set-up the action the lowest as possible. He did comply and when I tested it, it was really low. (around the same as yours .060 or .65 at the 12th and there was no buzzing) I was so happy, but when I'm playing at home and I did a full bend of the high E at the 12 fret. The sound choked and died. So I decided to raise the action up again by increments by adjusting the bridge saddles: .075 then .85 still had a little choke, then at .95 to 1.0mm. That is when the "choke" vanished. Watched ALL the tutorials on UA-cam and almost all pro Luthiers unanimously advised that the lowest Strat action should be 1mm at the high E, also for the "optimal string vibration" for rich clear tone.🙂 Thanks for your feedback👌.
All has been said about the content of this video, I just want to chime in and compliment you on the excellent and enjoyable video editing. Well done.
I'm a Fender guy , it fits my hands ‼️
Tried Gibson, PRS and...no go for me.
I checked out an Ibanez ASZ 2200 prestige black... different neck then Fender but I liked it a lot. So next 🎸 are professional 2 telecaster and Ibanez ASZ prestige ‼️👍
My best discoveries:
Older Schecter PT, and Peavey Predator. Both in the $300-400 range.
Managed to get a Hellraiser Hybrid PT for under $500 it's pretty sick
Schecter reaper. Got it for cheap because some dude thought it was a tune dud. Best guitar ever
I bought a Japanese made Ibanez RT650 new back in 1993, and still have it. This was built in the same factory that builds the Prestige line. It was only made those two years. It was their "retro" model based on the RG550, but with a thicker more vintage Viper neck and frets, non-locking two point trem, graphite nut, and Gotoh Magnum locking tuners. Body is alder with a quarter sawn maple neck, 12" radius rosewood fretboard, and binding all around. Pickups are H-S-H with alnico 5 magnets, with a similar switching system to the AZ with a push/pull pot. This is the model that basically became the Andy Timmons signature. All that to say, Ibanez has been doing this for a long time. At the time, it definitely fell victim to the idea that Ibanez were for shredders/metal guys, even though it was fully capable of doing all of that. The neck isn't drastically different from the JEM and JS necks of that time, both of which were thicker than the super thin Wizard necks, and is nearly identical to the non-compound radius AZ neck. It was a workhorse and I would often lend it out for gigs and recording sessions because it recorded well and was consistent.
I found a 1978 Ibanez Challenger in a Goodwill years ago. It’s an exact copy of a Strat with the original Maxon pups. To this day, (20+ guitars later) it’s one of the best guitars I’ve owned.
A premium AZ is the best value in high end guitars. Period. Ibanez now has there own factory in Indonesia for their premium/mid-tier imports. They have 100% caught up with the fugijen factory. I mean astonishingly good. My luthier(a real luthier) was SHOCKED how nice my AZ242f was built and asked my permission to take it apart to check out the work. The dyna-mix system is a game changer. It does everything! It's so fun to find a new patch/amp-setting and then play it through all the 10 positions(HH AZs have 10 positions). I recently acquired an Ibanez Q52 which has a lot of DNA from the AZ including the factory. It plays so damn good. Anything from Ibanez's Indonesia factory is amazing.
I have the same guitar AZ242f, it's spectacular!
@@isuckatguitar6252 @isuckatguitar6252 lol I bought the AZ for 800, sold it for 1100. I then bought an rg5320... Wizard necks are great, but they feel to big for me and cause pain in my hand. I traded the rg for a 2023 ltd m-1000 and that Ibanez Q52. It's been a journey.
I agree that Ibanez premium is the best value in the guitar world. Especially at used prices! I picked up two premium Ibanez RGs (HSH 6 string and HH 7 string) for $400 and $500 Canadian respectively and they can do anything from retro soul/funk/jazzy sounds to modern metal
Thanks for a very informative video. I've been a Strat fan all my life and you have convinced me to go and try one of these Ibanez guitars. I've also got a PRS and I enjoy the coil tap, both sounds are great. But the Ibanez looks very cool. I would enjoy your views on the Steve Vai model which I thought was a bit like a Strat but access to the top register was better but I'm not a shredder. I shall look for your vids from now on.
I have the exact guitar you're playing in the video and it was the first guitar that got me to really like Strat style guitars. It's exactly the modern touches like the stainless frets, oil finished compound radius neck and the crazy versatility of the dyna-mix switch that sold me. I've used it for everything from Pink Floyd to Bullet for my Valentine and it works for everything. Just my absolute favorite guitar.
Unlike OP do you find that it sounds nothing like a strat?
@@whatilearnttoday5295 It does the strat thing well too, though not 100%. Mine, like the video is HSS so it won't ever fully match the old school single coil Strat sound even when the coils are split. They do make SSS configs of AZs now too though. I value the insane versatility over matching one sound perfectly.
I never loved the look of an Ibanez except for the S- something tobacco burst, and George Benson something floating humbucker thing. But I always loved their attention to detail on all of their guitars.
My first regular guitar was a Ibanez GAX30, I owned it for 4 or 5 years before selling it, it was a great guitar to learn on and gave my an appreciation for the SG body shape. I always though Fenders looked like Fischer Price guitars, something made for children, over 20 years later and I still feel that way...lol
Great video Mike
I so admire your passion for guitar culture and technology. Your production and verbal skills are the standard all UA-cam personalities should aspire to.
I like the Ibanez Prestige line. Recently bought the Prestige AZ2203N...and it's perfect. Highly recommended. My strat player friends are astonished by it.
Vola guitars are the real hidden gems on the market.
Between my Prestige AZ and my Vola, the Ibanez pretty much just lives in its case now
My first electric guitar is the Ibanez RG220B. From what I could gather from forums dating back to 2006 is that it's a Guitar Center exclusive model that only had three colors; red, gray, and black. Comes with a 5 way switch (bridge, single coil bridge, dual humbuckers, polar wired neck, neck), tone, and volume knob. I've only used Ernie Ball Super Slinkys with it. The curious thing about it is that it's a commissioned budget model. Ibanez contracted Cort guitars in South Korea to manufacture it though.
I have a library's worth of instruments, but I can safely say that this guitar is my Mjölnir. I have played a ton of gigs with it and it has been tried by a countless amount of guitar players who were curious to ask about it after shows. The brows always rise the moment they play something as simple as a C Major chord, then I tell them to try the single coil setting and they lose their minds. I don't know if I should retire this guitar, but I'm grateful for the 22 years I've had with this thing ever since I saw DVDs of Steve Vai and Korn rocking them. Those shows convinced me to ask my parents for one and I don't think I can ever repay my parents for making my dream come true. Here's to 22 years and more!
I never played Ibanez until I got an S body. One of the best feeling guitars I've ever played. Amazing ergonomics and feel. It was my gateway into modern guitars where Strandberg is now my main instrument. Would love to see you explore a Strandberg
Back in 2000, I got an Ibanez Prestige S2020x with piezoelectric pickups on the switch. It plays like butter and is the single most versatile guitar I've owned.
After years of playing a strat, I tried a Charvel pro mod and holy moly did it solve most of the problems I had with my strat. I also tried an Ibanez and they were neck and neck amazing. The Charvel won out for me because I felt the neck carve was imo was better
One thing is unmistakable, the tone is amazing.
Great review! I really like this guitar and Ibanez makes incredibly excellent guitars. Ive wanted to buy every Ibanez I've played. The last one was an Iceman with 3 single coils and still regret not buying it.
I have an AZ2204, I love it, I mostly use the Humbucker and the six single coil modes, one of the most versatile guitars I own, everything from Humbucker to classic Strat sounds to almost a Tele like sound, I can play it for hours switching between the modes and having a blast.
I have three Ibanez-es, my first one is an RG that I bought in 2006-ish. My latest one is an S series that I got two weeks ago. (But I consider myself a Strat guy - since 1983). The first Ibanez I remember seeing was when the Vai JEM 7-string was released. Although I have a friend in the Bay Area who has a huge collection of Lawsuit-era guitars and was an endorser for quite a few years. I have been GASing the AZ for a while, but I needed the HSH of the S series that I’m accustomed to.
Good video Mike. Congrats! I would like to see you trying one Ibanez JSM10
I’ve owned several strats, including a genuine ‘64 L series, and loved them! But Ibanez has always felt like home to me. Every rabbit trail I take always leads right back Ibanez. There is an enormous amount of versatility in their catalog and there’s a special kind of magic in their necks that again, just feels like home. I’m a session player and there have been very few gigs over the years that I couldn’t find the right Ibanez for. They deserve far more cred than they get, in my opinion
Loved the early Vai Jems as a teen. Thought the handle was awesome. I mostly play the bass now but I am really happy with my “one and done” guitar which is a PRS.
I do indeed remember, it was a 1976 Ibanez Musician MC400 I got for my bday.
Great guitar, learned rock on it.
The one hooked me for life though, I was 26 and I bought it as soon as I got my next check.
It was a red RG770DX and I bough it new in 1991.
I was working at Guitar Center at the time and I had to go to the competition to find it, it made all the guitars I'd played before feel half finished and off in comparison. It felt pro, it felt like I was cheating while I played.
Been playing the RG's as my main go to ever since, they are great for everything.
I have a Ibanez Prestige. Had it for years and i love it.
I have this guitar - the biggest advantage over a strat was the bigger neck radius for soloing. Other things include the variety of tones, input jack location for live playing and the tuners/trem never go out of tune in a 3 hour gig.
Beautiful rendition of Lenny, we have very similar play styles, I have never been into Ibanez but that is the most strat like Ibanez ever, very interesting
I just got my first Ibanez, a JS2450. I am impressed by Ibanez and wished I had gotten an Ibanez sooner. The neck profile is close to my Fender and I find it easy to go back and forth between the two guitars.
I love my strats, but I love my Ibanez guitars too. I love the thin Sabres, and the active basses are phenomenal.
I don’t play guitar, and I have no clue why this video was suggested to me, but man you’re a great presenter. I sat and watched the whole thing
Such a fun vid! I'm a through and through Ibanez guy - specifically the Radius/Satriani models, currently own 10 of them. Plus a JEM, a Universe, and a PIA from Vai.
I found it interesting that you mention "modernizing a Strat" because that's exactly what Ibanez was doing when Vai became their sig artist. The JEM and later the RG pretty much redefined the "superstrat" for the 80s, and the input jack placement? Been there since 1986 😊! Both the JEM and the JS Series have it that way.
The AZ series was an attempt to redefine their superstrat for the modern age, I owned two for a while, but the neck is a bit too thick for me by, literally, .07mm. Shame too because they're amazing guitars.
The guys from Polyphia use them, Andy Timmons (who was taught by Satriani), Jack Gardenier, Eric Hansel from CHON, and a ton of other more modern guitar heros are all rocking the AZ.
Also, nice choice for yours, the Prussian Blue is *chef's kiss*
Great comment! I came here to say the JS models have had the angled input jacks since their debut in 1990.
Couldn't speak to the JEM being earlier as I've never had one of those. [have JS-6000; JS-700; JS-1000; JS-1600 and a slew of 540R pre-cursors]
20 years ago I bought an RG Prestige as my first ever guitar. This was a crazy move but I still have it and play it regularly. It stays in tune very well, I can literally pick it up and play it without even tuning it for just noodling around a bit. I love this guitar and never felt tempted to look for something better. The only reason I have not only this one is to have multiple tunings at hand.
Finally a review from someone that looks like they studied something
I've been playing Ibanez since the start. They're great. I've had a few and played lots of them.
About Ibanez... I tryed one and now I have two not quite in the "superstrat" category (my first is a HSH and the second is a HH) and what I love about them is their playability (fabulous neck), versatility and construction quality.
I have an Ibanez gio, it’s the small version. I play it often. It’s one of my favorite guitars I have owned. It’s like it’s satin black. It has a 5 way blade switch. It does everything and I can play any genre of music on it.
I have a 1996 Ibanez (RG440) Roadstar II in Dark Wine. Bought Brand new. It's still sitting right behind me on the stand. Aside from a crappy Grand Prix when I first started playing it is the only electric guitar I ever needed. 🙂
Very pretty guitar and nice playing as well. Thanks.
I'm not much of a fan of strat style guitars. But that output jack is absolutely what fender should have done from the beginning. Absolutely perfect.
I only saw this once in my entire life, but there was absolutely amazing Gibson SG model that had *single coil* pickups. With just about any amp, it would feedback nearly any note you touched on the guitar without having to press the string to the fretboard (harmonics) with the most beautiful pure tone you've ever heard. It had one of those inexpensive thin bar whammy bars on it. Never saw one like it again and would love to see a video on it if you ever come across one.
I love both fender and ibanez (since 79), I'm going to but ibanez pickups hsh V8, S1, V7 in my fender stratocaster and I know I wouldn't be disappointed
