Vocals are, by far, the most important element of the mix to get right.
If they're too bright, dark, dynamic, loud, or quiet...
You're gonna make listeners skip to the next song in their playlist.
In this video, I review 4 subscriber mixes and reveal where their vocal mixing issues are holding them back. You'll learn how they can greatly improve their productions by focusing on dead-simple mix moves that'll make a massive difference.
If you'd like to enter your mix for a potential mix critique by me, download your Free Polished Production Checklist (link above) and shoot your mix as a reply to that email.

2:56 It's so rare to hear doom / funeral doom in mixing videos! Sounds awesome Peter, congrats! Also, being a huge doom fan, I'd like to point out that long intros are a common feature. And Bobby, kudos for being so positive and kind in your feddback; other mixing channels can be quite harsh in their criticism of user submissions, and as a listener I don't like it.
sounds like a sick song honestly, the mix is spot on for the genre
i really wanna find out what their band is called. thought they sounded great
Thanks Bobby! I really appreciate your advice, thanks for your time ! 🤘
Sure, I'll write to you at night
Hey Bobby, it's Robert (or Bob as your prefer lol) thanks for the tip on the percussive instruments, I'll keep that in mind, and for the vocals too, i wasnt ever sure if my vocal mixes were too loud or not, but now i know.
Also the song was just a challenge for myself to see how fast I can write a song before going to work.
Yo your song was definitely interesting I'd love to hear more!
I agree with Bobby on the EQ part, I totally lost your snare and kick because those conga/bongo/tom elements fought with them. Maybe leave them out of the center when the full kit comes in? Or you could even try some dynamic eq on those elements so the snare/kick comes through
4:51 i spit out my coffee lmao..
Pranavs mix is really intense and l really dug it. I'm surprised you could hear the distortion on the cymbals, shows how well trained your ears are.
I hope the Mix Crypt is still going strong, it helped me out immensely with metal and rock. Bobby is the man for these types of productions.
Hi Bobby. How do we submit a mix please?
hail the algorithm
i was first here
Peter's song definitely has a My Dying Bride vibe going for it.
I was like " is Nox Aurea back together? "
Pranavs mix sounds horrible, like it's underwater
It's not that bad
You must have trash cans for headphones 😭it sounds like it's 80-85% there. The Vocals do sound a bit harsh; they need more midrange and to come down in volume, or accomplishing a similar thing, like Bobby said cut some of the high-end and bring down the volume.
I disagree, the guitars are clear considering the tuning. The bass is chunky. It's thick and tight. Maybe you're not familiar with this sub Genre?
