Hey girlz! I love that u chose this movie. FRIED GREEN TOMATOES is my favorite movie right next to THE COLOR PURPLE (1986). I have read both books. The author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (Thank God, they shortened the title for the movie!😄) Fanny Flagg had a cameo in the movie. She was the relationship coach/instructor w/ the shortish red hair, right before the cellophane scene. - Ninny is not Idgie even though the movie might hint @ it. That is one of 2 things that annoys me about the movie. The 2nd thing that bothers me is the movie down played that Idgie & Ruth were in "lesbians" w/one another. I know, I know it was the early 1990s, but by the mid-90s they released the movie BOUND. Don't get me wrong, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES is my favorite movie even w/my minor criticisms. - According to the book, that day that Idgie brought Ruth the honey from the hive, Ruth fell in love w/Idgie. There is a part in the book where Ruth thought Frank was hitting her because he deep down knew she was in love w/someone else, Idgie. - Well, that's all I had to say, other than this, great reaction girlz.😊
Another annoying difference from the book to the movie is that in the book, Ruth never met Idgie's brother Buddy. The Director, Jon Avnet, stated in the DVD commentary that because of the times, he felt he couldn't show the true relationship between Idgie and Ruth so he tried to hint at it. Their food fight at the Café was intended to be a subtextual love scene.
@@alaynawhitten U know what, it's probably because I have seen the movie so many times, that I forgot in the book Ruth & Buddy had never met, maybe I need to go back & read the book again. - That food fight scene was more like 2 best friends goofing off in my opinion. Also, in the book, Ruth & Idgie were together quite a bit longer than in the movie, like add on about another 10yrs. I still think these r minor criticisms. Like I have said, it's still my favorite movie next to THE COLOR PURPLE. - One movie adapted from a novel that completely ticked me off was TELL IT TO THE BEES w/Anna Paquin & Holliday Grainger. It is a period piece taking place in 1950s Scotland, where a female Doctor returns to her hometown after many years away, & eventually develops a relationship w/the mother of a young boy. Don't know if u have read the book/watched the movie. I loved the book. The thing that really bothered me about the movie was that they tacked on a totally different ending than the book, & that movie came out in 2019.😠 Yeah, that was one of the most disappointing adaptations that I have recently come across.
18:32 "Is this Ruth or Idgie?" Ah. Ryl, there's that awesome foresight, again. I remember, when I first saw this movie, notions like that didn't cross my mind until _many_ scenes later.
In the book, Ninny and Idgie are two different people. Ninny marries Cleo, Idgie's older brother. Ninny wears a wedding ring and had a disabled son who lives 30 years, but Idgie never marries. Yes, the film does tease the viewer that Ninny is Idgie but I think its all up to the viewer....maybe the two characters are combined for the film.
They r not combined. In the beginning of the movie, Ninny introduced herself & said "...I married her brother Cleo. I was practically adopted by the Threadgoode family."
@@lynetteoliva1256 actually.. I completely agree. That is my take on the film as well. But I try to provide the full breadth of possibilities so people can make up their own mind. Why do I think its still in the realm of possibilities? Because in the film we never see Ninny or Cleo. And I think we don't see Miss Otis either. In the bedroom at the facility we see photos of Ruth alone and with Ruth with Idgie but we don't see any photos of Ninny or her son or Cleo etc. You'd think she would have photos of her husband and son and herself. Ninny is very elderly......she is possibly misremembering things from a third parties perspective. Slipping into dementia etc. I could go on and on discussing this from either perspective. Just one example since we're already talking about this. What a co-incidence that Idgie would just happen to leave a note very very very recently on the grave at the end. Why do I say so recently? Well, i'm from the southern US very close to where this takes place and I know how common afternoon showers are. The note was left recently. On the opposing viewpoint.....where would Ninny have gotten a jar to collect the honey? My viewpoint agrees with yours. I think they are two different characters, however I DO think the film was designed to be open to the possibility that they are the same character and I think it can quite easily be argued from either perspective.
@@chandie5298 The pic of the boy in a sailor suit w/the crescent moon was Ninny's son. It's the only pic she had of him. Maybe they should of had Ninny show Evelyn the pic w/her saying "Would u like to see a picture of my boy Albert?", but sadly they didn't. The reason why I know about the pic is because it's mentioned in the book. U know Idgie wasn't about photos & momentos of the past. Ninny was, so that's why she had those photos. Ninny was not showing signs of dementia, not everybody that is that old gets dementia. The movie shows Mrs. Otis' daughter-in-law so we know Mrs. Otis exists. Plus, Mrs. Otis is the one who died @ the end, & Ninny went back home just as she said she would, but nobody told her that they tore down her house while she was keeping Mrs. Otis company. So, I don't think it is up for interpretation, if u pay attention & not read into things.
@@lynetteoliva1256 Thanks for the insights. I didnt'mean to say that I thought Miss Otis didn't exist, my point was to point out that all the characters mentioned during the story tellings are not shown in the flashback. I missed the picture of Albert (thanks for that). I'm well versed in dementia having watched its progress in both of my grandparents at a time when I was an adult and earning my psych degree (one of the reasons I chose that major) and now...my older sister. There are signs of dementia while people are still quite lucid. In other words, its often a slow progress, not a light switch. Also, its kind of a garbage bin label because there is a long list of symptoms and a long list of causes.....and the list of symptoms overlap across causes. Memory loss or remembering things differently...either forgetting parts or even adding in things that never occurred sometimes. In some types, people begin to lose vocabulary so they resort to expressing thoughts and ideas in a different manner using concepts and vocab that they still possess. Telling stories of the past from the third person occurs as well. They can recall that something happened but may not recall who took part in the events.....even when it was them. Ninny did appear to be completely lucid....but again, I was throwing out ideas to allow for a broad range of opinions rather than simply arguing for my own specific viewpoint because part of the beauty of films is that each viewer comes away with a slightly different story and lessons.
No one watching for the first time would wonder if the old lady really died at the end of the movie. The nursing staff said she was died so once again you seen this or read about details of the movie. Thanks alot.
In the book Idgie and Ruth are actually in love. Both actresses in the film wanted to present the story the way it was written in the book but the studio was afraid it wouldn't be well-recieved at the time it was released so they glossed over the relationship leaving it up to interpretation in the film.
"I'm older and I have more insurance" lol insurance isn't paying out for intentional damage. In fact she'll have to pay for her car and the girl's car from her own pocket.
Kathy Bates is my favorite actress because she is the best character actor. Meryl Streep and Glenn Close are also great but to my mind Bates is still the best. Part of what I love about this movie is the depiction of so many decades of Southern USA history woven into the story while basing it around a handful of characters that bring it to life.
The scene where they're throwing the food off the train to people is during the Great Depression, when a lot of people were homeless & hungry. The movie was shot in Juliette, Georgia & you can visit & eat at the restaurant if you ever happen to be an hour S of Atlanta
"Fried green tomatoes. How does that taste?" Freakin delicious! At least my mom's do. Hers are crisp on the outside and seasoned nicely. I can never make them right.
They called this type of movie a dramedy... half drama and half comedy (the Kathy Bates story was played mostly for laughs). Another great dramedy is Terms of Endearment with Shirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, Debra Winger, and John Lithgow all nominated for Oscars (the first two won) and it won Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Director also.
This is the perfect movie for you two to react to. I love all your reactions, but this one is perfect. You need to loook up a recipe for fried green tomatoes. It's not a real common dish to find at a restaurant. It's good.
Ninny is not Idgie! That is the one thing I dislike about this movie, & that's the movie hinting @ the end that Ninny possibly is Idgie. In the very beginning of the movie Nanny stated that she married Idgie's brother Cleo.
@Vlasko60 Why lie to a perfect stranger about who u r?, & then Why continue lying to the person that u have gotten to know over months & that u consider a friend? Come on, u can do better than that. Plus, in the book, Ninny & Idgie r most assuredly different people.
There's another book by the same author that I think you'll enjoy called "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man". To my knowledge it's never been made into a movie.
Sipsey holding Idgy and telling her to let her go always breaks me... Also love with Evelyn tells her husband somebody helped put a mirror in front of my face. I always felt like they chopped Frank up and fed him to the hogs as slop
8:52 How does fried green tomatoes taste?....they are salty and savoury and acidic......absolutely delicious. Especially if they are picked fresh from someone's backyard garden. The flavour is much better than tomatoes from a store.
Mrs Threadgood Is Iggy’s sister in law. She sez in the beginning she was married to Iggy’s brother. But in the end of the movie, they make it seem that Mrs. Threadgood was Iggy.

Is in my Top 10 Movie List, has been for years
One of my favorite movies! "Secret's in the sauce!"
I used to live in Senoia Georgia which is where the house used as Idgie's house is located as well as the railroad tracks. This is the same town made famous for The Walking Dead. It was just a beautiful small town when I lived there from 1998 to the beginning of 2002. Now it's so built up and a tourist attraction.
I'm happy you're safe from the hurricane.
This is a great movie. Hope you love it as much as I did.. and hope we don't neglect history.
17:21 " Do you have a problem with your 53xuality?"
"No, but I _do_ have a problem with my _girdle."_
😄This scene was just on my mind, yesterday. _Awesome_ scene.
For this film, Idgie is Ninny. She tells far too many intimate details that went on between Ruth and Idgie, when no one else was around.
👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻….one of my favorite movies. Glad you enjoyed it
“Buddy Jrs arm died” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh this is one of my all time favorite movies! Enjoy and thanks for sharing
18:32 "Is this Ruth or Idgie?"
Ah. Ryl, there's that awesome foresight, again. I remember, when I first saw this movie, notions like that didn't cross my mind until _many_ scenes later.
Yes 🙌🏾
@@lynetteoliva1256yup states that clear as day
@@chandie5298 The pic of the boy in a sailor suit w/the crescent moon was Ninny's son.
But she turned into Twanda, and didn't really care. She was enjoying the payback.
I love this film. I first saw it when it first came out. I'm 53 years old
Just my favorite movie and one of my favorite reaction channels. ❤ Doesn't get much better! 🎉
@48:26 - They served up a little bit of "long pig."
Fried Green Tomatoes are delicious!! And this is one of my favorite movies!
I saw this movie when I was like 11-12ish and I was balling from the beginning with Buddy’s death.😭
I watched it in middle school, same age, with my English teacher. We were all dead inside if you wanna know 😂.
Movie perfection.
Kathy Bates is an amazing actress
This is the perfect movie for you two to react to. I love all your reactions, but this one is perfect. You need to loook up a recipe for fried green tomatoes. It's not a real common dish to find at a restaurant. It's good.
Ninny Threadgood was married to Idgies brother Cleo... the fellow who helped Idgie and big George rescue Ruth. ....
Fried green tomatoes are awesome!!
I love this movie so much
Ryl is something else. She detected that the old lady was Idgie right off the bat. She has a gift for unraveling plot lines.
Ninny is not Idgie! That is the one thing I dislike about this movie, & that's the movie hinting @ the end that Ninny possibly is Idgie. In the very beginning of the movie Nanny stated that she married Idgie's brother Cleo.
@@lynetteoliva1256I am always confused how people miss this!
@@phillyphan1225 I guess, people seem what they want to see.
@Vlasko60 Why lie to a perfect stranger about who u r?, & then Why continue lying to the person that u have gotten to know over months & that u consider a friend? Come on, u can do better than that. Plus, in the book, Ninny & Idgie r most assuredly different people.
Her instincts are correct. The old lady knows way too much about the goings-on....Between Ruth and Idgie
There's another book by the same author that I think you'll enjoy called "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man". To my knowledge it's never been made into a movie.
Fannie Flagg
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Sipsey holding Idgy and telling her to let her go always breaks me...
Also love with Evelyn tells her husband somebody helped put a mirror in front of my face.
I always felt like they chopped Frank up and fed him to the hogs as slop
Virtual hug
Great reaction!!!👍👍👏👏🎉🎉😊
8:52 How does fried green tomatoes taste?....they are salty and savoury and acidic......absolutely delicious.
Especially if they are picked fresh from someone's backyard garden. The flavour is much better than tomatoes from a store.
One of the best movies! 🍅
Maybe check out Jessica Tandy in the movie "The Birds" from 1963.
The old lady is Cleo. SHe married one of Idgie's brothers.
Mrs Threadgood Is Iggy’s sister in law.
She sez in the beginning she was married to Iggy’s brother.
But in the end of the movie, they make it seem that Mrs. Threadgood was Iggy.
I've watched several people's reactions to movies and they are all full of exaggerated acting leading me to believe they have already seen the film and they always end with "I really liked that one. Like and subscribe. Bye." I came across your Meet Joe Black reaction and was really impressed that you actually paid attention and discussed the movie after it was over. I watched your Misery reaction and now this. Each one you discussed the film and, even though I liked the drama, you didn't agree wholeheartedly for the sake of appeasing your viewers. You are the only reaction channel I have subscribed to. I will be looking through your catalog to see what other films you've done. Good job.
Have this movie on dvd, love it 🔥🤛🏻🇬🇧❤️xxx p.s to Wanda 🤛🏻😉😂
Fried Green Tomatoes are So Delicious! With homemade Remoulade. 😘
When are you going to finish the lethal weapon series?
This should be fun. Love this movie.
Not as much as I adore you two though.
She is not Idgie or Ruth. She is Ninny and was married to Idgie’s other brother Cleo. She says that at the very beginning of the movie.
Omg I love this movie...and Kathy Bates is amazing. And btw, fried green tomatoes are a south american specialty. The green tomatoes are a bit tart and tangy...you deep fry them and serve them usually with a dip of some kind, or eat plain. Delicious (in my opinion).
❤❤
Buddy didn't die, though he DID lose part of his arm. The funeral was for his arm
Please watch The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister 2010.
14:15 The days before killer bees.
26:40 Giving him free alcohol will certainly cure his alcoholism.
🍅 👍
please watch, we were soldiers, you are the best
It’s so weird the movie implies Ms Threadgood is Idgey even though they have very distinct and separate personalities
Iggy gave Smokey alcohol because he’s an alcoholic and got the shakes from not having anything to drink.
