Dolly is a national treasure and should be protected at all cost.
💯%
Nice to see her with her natural chest! 😄I have been a fan of her music forever also love her in The Best Little Whore House in Texas!
Especially from that wicked Jolene.
👍 👍
yea...both of them.. :) sorry, couldnt resist
When Jordan said he could breathe easy, all I could think was "oh boy, strap in." All these years later, Shelby's death still hit me and I knew it was coming.
Same! When he said that, I was like "oh no... you have no idea".
I've always loved this movie, but now that I'm a mom, it hits differently.
There aren't many movies that can make me laugh and cry no matter how many times I watch them and this is one of them.
Shhhhhh!! No one likes a spoiler!
I thought the same. I was telling myself "hold on. You don't know what's coming ".
We must have all had the exact same thought.
'Steel Magnolias' was based on a true story. Actor and writer Robert Harling wrote the play based on the true story of his sister, Susan Harling Robinson, who died from diabetic complications. This is one of the only movies that can make me laugh and cry at the same time.
The writer plays the minister at Shelby's wedding, and his parents are amongst the guests.
Yes! The writer wanted to write this about his sister since the husband married again not long after she passed, and the writer didn't want his nephew to forget his mom. So beautiful
@@ShelbyBaby27also Susan's doctor's are the ones who treated Shelby during the life support scene and her mother stayed on set because she wanted to see Julia Roberts get up and walk away.
"You had contacts in the 80s?!?" made me feel as old as I've ever felt.
Dolly: "9 to 5" is a MUST!! Julia Roberts: "Erin Brockovich" & "Pretty Woman"
Sally Field showed why she’s won two Oscar’s with that performance at the grave !!! An amazing actress!!!
Glad you got to see her in a bigger role than she had in “Forest Gump “!!
I loved her in Eye for an Eye too!!
Her two Oscar winning roles were, of course, Norma Rae and Places in the Heart.
She was even good in Smokey and the Bandit
@@kev7161 I love Place in the Heart! What a great movie!
Any movie with Sally Field is amazing. "Not Without My Daughter" is one of my favorites. "Places in The Heart" is amazing as well. She gives 100% to each role.
I actually made the decision for my wife when it was determined that the doctors couldn't help her. Her family knew I would do what was best for her and my wife and I had talked about what we wanted if we were only going to be kept alive by machines. I cannot express what it meant to have her family's trust in that moment. I will also never get over having to make the decision to give my wife peace and let her go. It is something you live with forever.
I’m so very sorry for your terrible loss
I’m so sorry for your loss and having to make that choice. I’m glad your wife and her family put that trust in you. 💜
You are a good husband and man to have honored your wife's wishes. My prayers are with you
Lost my husband unexpectedly, but had to make that same decision for my mom and younger sister...I know your pain. (((HUGS))) GOD BLESS ❤
I feel ya, brother. I had to go through the same thing two years ago. Though we weren't married yet, the family had come to the decision to pull the plug but they wanted me to have the final say. I agreed. I held her as she passed away. If I live to be a hundred I NEVER. WANT. TO. DO. THAT. AGAIN! I have no doubt we did the right thing. Had she survived her stroke, she would have lost the use of her hands and because of sepsis, she would have lost her left leg up to the hip. She wouldn't have wanted to live like that. But I miss her so much and it's been so hard trying to go on, but I'm fighting! She wouldn't want me moping around.
One of my favorite scene is when Spud decides to go with Truvy to Shelby's funeral and he asked Truvy if his tie matches his suit. At one point Spud says, "...something like that happened to me I don't know... I don't know what I'd do." Spud works so long hours but now realizes what's really important in his life and it's not his job.
This movie is so amazing! During the cemetery scene, Sally Field did her gut-wrenching performance in 1 take.
Oh wow I didn’t know that but I guess they wanted it to be in the moment cause they usually do a few takes in case they need it in post but she nailed it so brilliantly and the woman’s reactions were so great and natural that they were probably like that’s it, cut and print! 🥹
I heard they let her improv that scene because she is so talented.
Sally Field is an exceptional actress!
I don't think you'd want to do it many times. So I'd get as much background info and then rehearse every second at home.
Sally Field never disappoints! She is a two time Academy award winner for Norma Rae and Places In The Heart.
The movie did come after the play, but the play was written by "Shelby's" younger brother. This was based on a true story.
Omgosh for real?!! I never knew that 😢😩🥹
I believe I also read somewhere that some of the medical team who took care of the writers sister was also in some of the hospital scenes.
@@Steph-ih8jz yes that is true. The nurse who turned off the machine and the one who gave the clipboard to Jackson to sign - I believe those were the real nurses.
The real Jackson got remarried just months after the real Shelby died. Shelby's brother got inspired to write a play for her son after he heard Shelbys son call Jackson's new wife, Mom. He got pissed and wanted to write something to show who Shelby really was and how much she loved him. It turned into a play.
ua-cam.com/video/qtGTmLQv8ww/v-deo.html this is the link from the author of the play and movie. Based on his sister and mother.
If you loved Olympia Dukakis as Clairee, you've really got to see her Oscar winning performance as Rose in Moonstruck. The cast also includes Cher, who also won an Oscar, in one of her most amazing roles. It also won best screenplay and was nominated for best picture, best supporting actor and best director. But be prepared, it will make you want to eat. There's food or drink in a lot of scenes.
She was a treasure.
I've suggested Moonstruck several times too...
Moonstruck is the best.
Yes. Do Moonstruck.
Moonstruck is the absolute best romantic movie
I read that the nurse that cared for Shelby and helped with her as she was in a coma was the original nurse who cared for the author’s sister…who is what this movie is based on. Doctor too. The author was the preacher who married Shelby in this film.
One of the main points was portraying the strength of the women. The author, "Shelby's" brother, wanted to tell about all the strong women in his life, and how they handled the death of his sister. This is how the movie got the name "Steel Magnolias." It's about being feminine and being strong.
Such a stellar ensemble cast in Steel Magnolias! Also need to see Fried Green Tomatoes with Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates.
Yes!!
Agreed!
fried green tomatoes next FOR SURE
My favorite movie.
Also Driving Miss Daisy.
This movie is so multilayered that I always pick up something different every time I watch it. On my 3rd or 4th time, I realized that Spud was actually in a major depression because of employment issues. I kinda wish y’all had included the scene where Spud offers to go to Shelby’s funeral with Truvy, because I took that to be his being shocked out of his depression and realizing you have to live life and love your loved ones because you only get one chance. Dolly’s reacting in the scene was priceless. Truvy was getting her husband back. Even though it is close to the end of the movie, Spud’s demeanor is more positive after this. Loved your reaction to this movie.
Yes! Hardly anyone catches that. He comes off as neglectful and closed off because we're only seeing Truvy's perspective. When you look closer you can see that he is deep, deep in it, and it's even sadder because Truvy has no idea what to do and probably thinks it's her fault.
One of my favorite.parts of the movie
"They had contacts in the 80's?"
Omg I'm so old 😂
What I also love from this movie's story is, they were shooting the movie, it was hot where they were shooting I think in Georgia, it had been a long day and everyone was kind of grumbling about it, and I believe it was Julia Roberts who said she saw Dolly sitting on a swing and just swinging away seemingly happy as could be, and she went over to her and said, why are you not grouchy like all the rest of us, and Dolly told her, I dreamed all my life about being a star and singing and acting in movies, and my dream has come true, so why would I be b-ing when my dream came true. That is Dolly Parton in a nutshell, she is thankful for the blessings given which we should all remember to be.
Filmed in Natchitoches, La. Very small college town in north Louisiana.
@@jenniferdelcambre7942 I went to college for a semester at Northwestern State LA which is where they filmed the locker room scene. My brother helped with that scene bc he was an equipment manager there.
More great movies starring these ladies: Splash (Daryl Hannah), Places in the Heart (Sally Fields), Moonstruck (Olympia Dukakis), Notting Hill (Julia Roberts), 9 to 5 (Dolly Parton), Terms of Endearment (Shirley MacLaine),
Nottinghill would be a good movie to check out Julia Roberts as well as Pretty Woman
I've been dying for someone to react to Splash and both 9 to 5 and Moonstruck are amazing ensembles as well! great picks!
Nah, *_The APARTMENT_* (Shirley MacLaine, Jack Lemmon)
I vote 9 to 5!
@@rollomaughfling380 and Postcards from the Edge (the real life story of Princess Leia - Carrie Fisher and her mom)
One of my favorite movies. My mom's symptoms started half way through her pregnancy with me. She received her terminal glioblastoma diagnosis shortly after my birth and chose to spend whatever time she had left at home with me & my brother who was 1.5 years old. I got a total of 18 months with her before she passed away at home with us. I carry her with me always but this movie along with Stepmom(also starring Julia Roberts) & Terms of Endearment (also starring Shirley MacClain) are the 3 movies that I watch when my grief gets overwhelming. I'm a crier anyway but when I NEED a good cleansing ugly grief cry, I watch those movies. Somehow I always feel closer to my mom & better - like she's curled up in bed with me watching along too. If you haven't seen those other 2 movies I definitely recommend them!
Both of my sisters are type 1 diabetic and when their blood sugar dropped they can become violent and disoriented easily, even when you are trying to help them they don't understand and it can hit incredibly fast too. I've never seen my sisters shake that much but they say her case is special. Both my sisters have had perfectly healthy children but they were all high risk pregnancies and thankfully no further complications happened but of course we have better treatment options now than before.
Tom Skerritt who played Sally Field's husband in the movie, also played Commander Mike "Viper" Metcalf in the first Top Gun movie
I'm always curious if ppl are going to recognize Tom Skerritt. He's such a phenomenal actor.
And Captain Dallas in the first Alien movie.
Tom has been in tons of stuff. I saw him the other day in an old episode of "The Virginian" in the 60's.
This screenplay was written by the brother of the girl that died. He really put his heart and soul in to it.
This is actually based on a true story, the man who wrote the play also wrote the screenplay. Its based on his sister who died due to complications from diabetes. I remember reading somewhere he said he wrote it for his sister's son so that he would not forget his mother and would always have something to remember her by.
Annelle's transitions through the movie along with each scene being set around a holiday was used to mark to passage of time without a lot of exposition. I believe it is a carry over from the stage production where the sets are more simplified.
The play takes place in Truvy’s beauty shop. There are no men in the stage play.
I've watched this movie so many times and still cry every time. Amazing acting by the whole cast. For another Dolly movie recommendation: "9 to 5"!
9 to 5 is one of my favorite movies ever -- I saw it 8 times in the theater when it first came out (I was 10).
I second the recommendation for, 9 to 5.
This movie hits home for me, my sister died from a heart-attack due to diabetes complications. Thank you for reacting to this movie. ✌️❤
I am so sorry about your loss 🙏🏻 condolences to you and your family
@Elizabitty213 thank you so much
Condolences to you and your family. I still feel the loss of my sister in 2021. I understand what you may be feeling.
@Debra Meyer thank you and I am sorry for your loss
So very sorry you lost your sister❤️
This movie still makes me bawl to this day 😭. It's definitely a classic, one of my faves.
I think this might be the first time I’ve seen Jay tear up. ❤
May Clairee rest in peace. 🕊️
Fried Green Tomatoes should be on your short list of movies. It has this type of vibe and I think you will love it
"You know I love you more than my luggage." A quote I still say to my best friends. I adore Clarie and Ouiser.
This is One of my absolute favorite movies of all time. The others being The Color Purple, and Fried Green Tomatoes. All three give the most wonderful emotional ups and downs of a life story well written. They are all such beautiful stories.
LOL!! Yes, we had contacts in the 80’s. There were contacts in the 50’s and my grandmother had a pair. The first contact lens was made in 1887.
Sally Field has always been known for her ability to be heartwrenching and cry. She is amazing. It is based on a true story of the writer losing his sister and he wrote it in 10 days. All the medical professionals in the movie were real doctors and nurses as a tribute the the roles they played in people's lives at their sometimes darkest times. Another great movie that will make you laugh and cry is P.S. I Love You. It is an absolutely amazing movie also with a big cast.
She’s my mom’s all-time favorite actress. She can REALLY pack that emotional punch in her performances. Brilliant.
I think the word to describe Ouiser, despite all her apparent meanness and unpleasantness is endearing. She was an endearing character in this movie.
A lot of people remember the tears and the drama, but I think most people forget how freaking
hilarious this film is!
Sally Field is wonderful! All great actresses. Perfect cast. That cemetery scene... still touches me😢
If you can watch this without crying, you have no soul. Amazing job by every actor/actress❤
This was a great reaction!! Glad y’all liked it! Next up, Fried Green Tomatoes!!!
Oh yes!!!! SUCH a great movie!!!
totally agree on Fried Green Tomatoes. Benny and June and great also
Yes! and "Beaches"
And Terms of Endearment
Yes, please! Fried Green Tomatoes.
I absolutely love this movie and was so excited when I saw it on your poll. My favorite characters were Olympia Dukakis (Clairee) and Shirley MacLaine (Ouiser).
This movie has so many Oscar winners… Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia, Dukakis, and Julia Roberts. I would love for you to look up each one of these women, and see their Oscar winning movies. For Sally Field it’s either places in the heart, or Norma Rae. The latter being my favorite. Shirley MacLaine is a famous actress, singer, dancer. She won her Oscars was one for Terms of Endearment. That is a another tearjerker but an excellent movie. Olivia Dukakis won an Oscar for Moonstruck, that also starred Cher in her Oscar winning role. My favorite Julia Roberts movie has to be Pretty Woman. However, she won her Oscar for Erin Brockovich. You can’t go wrong checking out these movies! Great reaction, as usual!
Terms of Endearment would be another great one for them to react to. Incredible performances throughout.
Excellent idea with the Oscars around the corner this would be the best time to check out Oscar winning performances. Each one of the movies mention 10s across the board. Amazing 👏
They've watched Forrest Gump...Sally Field played his mother.
Pretty Woman and Erin Brocavich are excellent suggestions. I think that Jay would probably like Erin Brocavich a little more than Pretty Woman, mainly because it’s based on a true story (and he seems to like those types of movies when it comes to dramas).
@@morningcoffeebreak7367 I forgot to mention that.
Of all those actresses, Shirley McLaine had the most hit movies. She worked with the greats including Jack Lemmon, Clint Eastwood, Glenn Ford, Frank Sinatra, Michael Caine, Peter Sellers, Anthony Hopkins, Nicolas Cage, Lisa Minnelli, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Robert Mitchum, David Niven and The Rat Pack (and I'm only through half of her movies). To have Shirley McLaine in a movie is almost a box office guarantee. Shirley has more hit movies than all the rest of the actresses in this movie combined. One of these weeks when you are off of work, take the time to just watch Shirley McLaine movies starting with the early black and white movies. You will enjoy each and every one of her movies.
Dolly is from Sevierville in Tennessee. The way she decorates Dollywood down there for Christmas is amazing. As well as Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge!
Oh no! Y’all need to watch more Julia Roberts: Pretty woman, runaway bride, my best friends wedding, pelican brief, conspiracy theory
I was so happy to see you react to this. It's such an emotional movie. My dad, a real tough guy, got really upset when Shelby had her diabetic seizure, and he remained upset the rest of the film. When Jay was so relieved that the surgery went well, I just thought, "Oh, wow, he's REALLY not going to like what comes next."
Type 1 diabetes, which Shelby had, can be extremely dangerous. She knew that having a baby would put an enormous strain on her body, but as she told her mother, she would rather have a few minutes of wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special.
As a living donor(donated to my mom in 2018), this movie hits home. My mom and I are doing ok but I can't run as fast as I could before the surgery and have to watch my salt intake. I love this movie and look at how Shelby wanted a baby so bad that it did not matter if her body could take it or not. I had a conversation with my dad about this cause he did not want me to donate, knowing I have two daughters that could possibly need a kidney one day. I did it anyways cause it is my mom. Thank you two so much for reacting to this movie. It was a great cast and you two bring joy into my life with every reaction video. Thanks again for being you! Much love from Texas!!!
One of my favorite films; like Truvy says, "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion".
This movie has one of my favorite lines. I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood the last forty years.
I lost my mother when I was 14 and this was one of her favorite movies. I couldn't watch it for years after she died. This is a good movie.
Steel Magnolias is one of my favorite movies. The cemetery scene gets me every time. Just turns into a sobbing mess. Glad y'all were able to review this one. If you haven't already, give Fried Green Tomatoes a review. Another feel good movie.
“If you can’t say something nice come sit by me”. Awesome.
This whole cast is amazing. Each one has has a career of fantastic performances that you should check out. Olympia Dukakis (who played Clairee) is a phenomenal actress! If you all love her in this you’ve gotta watch Moonstruck! She plays Cher’s mom in the movie. I know how Jay feels about Cher! 😂 It also stars Danny Aiello and young Nicholas Cage. Its quirky and fabulous!
Moonstruck is an AMAZING movie, directed by Norman Jewison. "Ya, and some day you'll be dead and I'll wear a red dress to your funeral??" The old dad in the kitchen at the end, crying and saying "I'm so confused...?!" Such an amazing movie.
I was just thinking the same- watch Moonstruck next with the great Olympia Dukakis and Cher in her Oscar-winning role.
I agree, "Moonstruck" is oh, so funny. "Snap out of it!" Excellent, hilarious movie!
YES!
I love it when Olympia calls hickies "love bites" in Moonstruck. Lol
Sally Field, of course, rocked the graveside scene! She's been acting since she was very young. In "Sybil" she plays a young woman with dissociative disorder. And killed it! You've seen her playing the mom in "Forrest Gump"
Sybil was so good
@@melhawl3685 i think so too! But, I gotta admit, I LOVE her in Gidget
This movie... it makes you laugh, and 20 seconds ot has tears in your eyes. This was one of the most brilliantly written movies EVER.
I live Natchitoches Louisiana where this movie was shot in the summer of 1988 in the sweltering Louisiana heat!!😆 All the houses are within a couple of blocks to my neighborhood and there are still signs around town about this movie all these years later😁 This small town had never been taken over by movie stars and cameras and production crews before...so much fun!!🎥 This a true story that was written by one of our local residents that was born and raised here, Robert Harling. It was about his sister that died from diebetes when she-was a young woman. After the movie, it was turned into a play. Natchitoches will forever be remembered for this movie because this is a tourist town and a college town(NSU), and many tourist come here to see the locations where this movie was filmed😁😁 We have many Bed and Breakfast homes here, and one of them is The Steel Magnolia House, which was Shelbys family's home😊💜
This movie was one of the most brilliant ensemble casts ever. I've watched it so many times and laugh and cry every time.
Dolly Parton has been an icon in my eyes for years! She is beautiful humble and extremely bright!
It’s a profoundly emotional film. That bit at the cemetery always gets me. It’s the only film where I go from crying to immediate laughter at the “ here, hit this! “ - Love your channel. You’re both so so lovely. Your chemistry is wonderful.
"You are the boil on the butt of humanity "😂😂 Good movie
You need to put Fried Green Tomatoes on your list. Another great story set in the south and powerful friendships.
Another great movie of “friendship “ is
“BEACHES “
With BETTE MIDLER and Barbra Hershey
Friendship/ Support from childhood on!! And get to hear BETTE’S beautiful voice singing several beautiful songs in it!!
YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED WATCHING THIS!!💕
When your people tell you a movie is filled with a star studded cast, google the movie then the actors. Give these amazing icons of cinema their props.
So glad you reacted to this movie! It's a classic movie. And it helps that it's a true story (the brother wrote the story in honor of his late sister after her death) and held faithful to a lot of the actual events. I heard how the brother credited his mother's best friends as the sole reason she managed to mentally survive the loss of his sister. Without them and their support, he mentioned she would have also "died" from her grief. The cemetery/funeral scene always hits hard no matter how many times you watch it. Can't believe they nailed it in one take!
Fun fact: the real-life brother of "Shelby" (not her real-life name) is the priest/pastor at the wedding/funeral.
This was a super stacked cast of amazing actresses. As a southern woman myself I really love to see strong smart southern women in movies. I think this was probably one of the best performances of Shirley McClaine’s I’ve ever seen. Sally Field was just devastating. I don’t think there’s a bad performance here. I’m so glad y’all reacted to this!
@kellifranklin9872 Have you seen her in the movie Bernie (with Jack Black)? It is another "regional" situation movie (East Texas) and another great performance for her.
This movie tears me up as a father of two girls. I love this movie. Glad y’all watched it.
Over 30 years i've been watching this movie every time its on tv and i cry every single time.
Sally's cemetery scene is the only scene in any movie that makes me go from ugly sobbing to laughing in one second.
The insulin reaction at the start of the movie is fairly accurate. I have been a type 1 diabetic since 19. I'm 63 now. Back then the insulin used was pig insulin and that stuff could put you on another planet. The DNA recombinant they use now is a lot easier to deal with. They can still be scary sometimes.
This has the absolute best cast. I would love for y'all to watch Fried Green Tomatoes, Terms of Endearment, and the Kill Bill series.
Great suggestions! I would add Driving Miss Daisy to that as well
Yes! Fried Green Tomatoes!!!
💯 phenomenal suggestions! Curious if they'll recognize Daryl Hannah in Kill Bill
Beaches!!!
YES! "Fried Green Tomatoes"!!!
Magnolias are like delicate southern women, but strong, like steel. Like how Sally Field’s character said “men are supposed to be made out of steel or something” when reflecting on how she handled Shelby dying at the hospital vs how her husband and SIL did.
This is based on the life of the author’s sister. The doctors and nurses who took care of Shelby in the movie were the real doctors and nurses who treated the real life Shelby. The nurse who turned off her machines was the actual nurse who turned off “Shelby’s” machines in real life. Such a powerful statement about how Robert Harling (writer) appreciated how they cared for his sister in real life. Very special play that became a very special movie.
Sally Field is such a powerhouse actress! Norma Rae and Sybil are her finest roles among others!
My family lost my oldest brother at the age of 23. This movie came out shortly after we lost him. My mother said Sally Fields performance is exactly how she felt. She nailed the emotions of the lost.
The movie was filmed in Natchitoches, LA. The movie is based on a play that Robert Harling wrote about his sister. The house M'Lynn lives in is now a bed and breakfast "The Steel Magnolia House". The Christmas Festival is amazing! (I'm from a town about 20 miles from there in Louisiana)
Most of my family members were in this wedding, and I got to watch it being filmed. This was filmed in Natchitoches Louisiana, and I was a student at Northwestern State University at the time my aunt and uncle and cousins lived there and they were in the movie. The Christmas festival is a real thing. The entire movie was filmed in the same town, and the houses are real and all of the extras were college students or families that live in Natchitoches. It was a very exciting time to be there.
This is based on a true story. The pastor who proceeded over the ceremony was the real-life brother to Julia Robert’s character as well as the play write to the whole story. The real-life mother, Sally Fields’ character, was an active consultant to the director during shooting. It has been said that during the final Hospital scene when life support was removed that she refused to leave the set until she witnessed Julia Roberts get out of her hospital bed when the scene was done. She insisted and need not recall the pain that she felt then a second time.
A couple of other great movies from that period that I really enjoy is "Fried Green Tomatoes". Which was written by Fanny Flagg. She was most known for her Match Game appearances. Also "Driving Miss Daisy". This was a Morgan Freeman classic.
That walk down the hospital hallway always brings the tears to my eyes. It says everything without uttering a word.
It is both beautiful and hard as hell to watch new life when you've just lost such a close loved one
I was so excited when this popped up! Such a great classic and a stacked cast. Not sure if you guys recognized Forrest Gump’s mother in Sally Field. It’s so crazy that younger people wouldn’t recognize Julia Roberts because she was THE movie star of the late 80s and through the 90s. Great video, as always.
Such a great movie. For something with similar performances and also starring Shirley McLain I’d recommend “Terms of Endearment”. Another great performance driven movie from the 80’s.
Slap her scene is one of the best dramedy scenes ever! Love the ensemble here!
The only time I cry watching this movie is when I watch reactors reacting to it because I know that they don't know what's coming. As soon as Jay said he was relieved and could breathe, I started sobbing.
This is one of my favorite films and I can quote the whole movie. Also this film deals with kidney failure and I am a kidney and liver transplant recipient
Shirley MacLaine movie acting career stated in the late fifties. Two of her earlier films are Some Come Running where she costars with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in a melodrama, and of course the masterpiece The Apartment(1960).The Apartment is a dark, cynical romantic comedy directed and written by Billy Wilder.
Also, the preacher in the movie is played by the author of the play and he wrote it about his sister. It’s a true story.
38:12 "Laughing through tears is my favourite emotion" Amen to that...
Stellar cast. The wonderful Olympia Dukakis. This, and Cher's mom in Moonstruck, were her best roles.
One of the best Actresses ever!
OMG, they should totally react to Moonstruck!!
Yes! Moonstruck would be a great movie to react to. Cher is also in Moonstruck playing a woman finding herself.
This is a beautiful movie. The cast, the acting, the story, everything is just so masterfully done. Glad you guys watched it and even more glad you enjoyed it.
I was wondering if they recognized Tom Skeritt, the dad, from Top Gun. He played the head instructor, Cmdr. Metcalf, or, call sign Viper
@@allenwhitmer8192 I was thinking the same thing! He's a great actor as well!!
@@FLmickey90 Yeah, I've always liked him. M*A*S*H, , Alien, A River Runs Through It, he played in so many great movies, too many to list them all
@@allenwhitmer8192 MANY MANY amazing movies that he's been in!! I had forgotten he was in M*A*S*H, but then again, I was real young when it was on TV (born in 1973), but do remember watching it.
@@FLmickey90 Yes, I was very young then, too, born in '64, but like you, I remember seeing it. My dad loved it and back then they showed movies on network TV quite often. I always preferred the television MASH, until I got older and understood the innuendo's from the movie
You know a movie is good and worth watching when it evokes emotions from laughing to crying and everything in between. So this in theaters when it opened and it's more meaningful today than ever. Watching your reactions to events in life that we all experience shows what caring, empathic individuals you are.
Some of the biggest laughs I've ever had and definitely one of the biggest crying I've ever done in a theater. So glad you watched it.
Oscar winners in film- Shirley Maclaine- 'Terms of Endearment' (a MUST SEE Film), Sally Field- 'Norma Rae' and 'Places in the Heart', Olympia Dukakis- 'Moonstruck' (with Cher- in her Oscar winning performance) and Julia Roberts- 'Erin Brockovich'
The actor who played Shelby’s dad is Tom Skerritt. He played Maverick’s (Tom Cruise) commanding officer in Top Gun and he is also in Top Gun: Maverick. If you get to Kill Bill 1 & 2 you will probably not recognize Daryl Hannah (Annelle) but she is fantastic in that film. She also stars in the movie “Roxanne” with Steve Martin that is such a funny movie.
I like Tom.....I watched Picket Fences all the time....thought he did a great job
A story of the circle of life, family, friendship, and the strength of women…strong beautiful flowers (Steel Magnolias).
I was happy to see that Weezy, the spinster who had to live watching everyone she loved find love & happiness, FINALLY found love & happiness herself. No reactor seems to see that as the big deal that it is for that person.
If you liked this wonderful movie then you'll love "Terms of Endearment", which also has Shirley MacLaine (Ouiser/Weezer) along with Jack Nicholson and Debra Winger. It's heartfelt, funny and has stellar performances from all the cast. ❣
One of the best movies ever made, with the best scene in the entire world... the cemetery scene. Sally Field is such a brilliant actress that you can literally feel your heart shattering for her loss, and then Olympia Dukakis comes in in the clutch to make us all laugh. It's absolute perfection!
If you think this is one of the greatest movies ever made you haven't seen many movies obviously
@Volunteerfan98 LOL! I'm willing to bet I've seen MANY more movies than someone only born in '98! 😂😂😂
Any time, anywhere, one of my favorite movies, it's also the first time I ever heard my mothers name in a movie "Annell".
When he said I was afraid one of them weren't going to make it - 😬
You guys have seen the great Sally Field (who plays Shelby’s mom and delivers the heart wrenching funeral performance) in Forrest Gump, she was his mom. You should check out her Oscar winning performance in “Norma Rae”. You should also check out Shirley MacLaine’s Oscar winning performance in “Terms of Endearment” and Olympia Dukakis’s Oscar winning performance in “Moonstruck” which also stars Cher in her Oscar winning performance. Lots of Oscar winning performances lol
The most PERFECT cast ensemble. It's rare to see so many major stars in one film. Dylan, Olympia, Shirley, Sally, Julia, Daryl, Tom, & Sam made a masterpiece.
Don't forget about Dolly
Man, I knew you guys would have a hard time with this one. I lost my oldest son in 2018. The scene in the cemetery when the mom goes off hits me so hard. I felt that way and worse for a long time. Sally Field’s absolutely nailed that pain and grief. Good news, my youngest son just had his first baby and they named him after his brother. Bryan.
The graveyard scene is one of the most real scenes I’ve ever seen, it’s just breaks me every time. Sally Field just smashed that scene.
