I have actually had Fried Green Tomatoes AT The Whistle Stop Cafe. I live a couple hours from Juliette, GA where this was filmed. They have turned basically the whole town into a museum for the movie. It's a great day trip. They completely converted the Cafe building from a hardware store into a working restaurant for the movie, so when the filming was over the locals opened it up as the actual Whistle Stop Cafe and yes, their most famous item on the menu is Fried Green Tomatoes. They are delicious!! There are behind the scenes pictures and memorabilia from the movie all over the restaurant. 💗
I used to live in Savannah - The Whistle Stop Cafe indeed has delicious fried green tomatoes! They're hard to find up here in Chicago, and I do miss them terribly! Anyway, the last time I was at te Whistle Stop Cafe I sat down on the steps for a minute, and these kittens ran up to me out of nowhere and just swarmed me! I was covered in kittens, and it was awesome!
Thats really cool to know, I have a friend I visit yearly who lives in Thomaston so it'd be really easy to visit. This is one of my favorite films I'd love to see this
Mrs. Ninny Threadgood is Idgy's SIL, she was married to Idgy's older brother Cleo (he is the "I see London" character). In the novel it is made clear that they are two separate people, but the movie leaves it open for interpretation.
Yes, Mrs Theadgood was married to Idgie’s older brother Cleo but the boy teasing Idgie before their sister’s wedding was Julian. You can hear the mother saying “Julian, hush”. Cleo is never shown in the movie.
Fried green tomatoes are absolutely delicious, and frankly can be a challenge to get right. But no, they don't fall apart when you bite into them - in fact, a popular way to serve them is in a fried green tomato BLT, and wow, they're addictive!
Yes, since they are green they don't fall apart. The frying also tames the bitterness of them not being ripe. Great reaction and Jen should choose more movies!
Watched this at lunch today. So much fun. Two things... Mrs. Ninny Threadgoode is NOT Idgie. She married into the Threadgoode family. And Nick didn't seem to pick up that this is a LOVE story between Idgie & Ruth. They just had to play it down when the movie was made. It's very clear in the book. You always got that, right Jen? Delightful reaction.
I resisted watching this movie for a very long time. When I did - what a fantastic movie. Every actor were very real. By the way, DO have Mom select more reactions
Video title proves you have an AWESOME MOM!! Can't wait to watch you, watch this, with her! ❤❤ Edit for mom: excellent Cocoon connection! Perhaps you should show him that one too 🥰
Another great movie with Mary-Louise Parker, another film in her must-see wheelhouse is Boys On the Side with Whoopi Goldberg, and Drew Barrymore. It's another laughing whie you cry movies, and it contains - in my opinion - the best rendition ever of Roy Orbison's "You Got It".
Mary Stuart Masterson actually had a regular role on Law And Order:SVU in the early 2000’s besides her film career. Mostly known for romantic comedies like “Some Kind Of Wonderful” and “Benny And Joon”
"Tell me again how the Civil War wasn't about slavery..." There were states who were allowed to continue the practice because they didn't secede. (Missouri Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware Tennessee and portions of Virginia and Louisiana). Lincoln's Proclamation only applied to the enslaved people in the states that rebelled. In the north, New York was considering seceding from the Union; not necessarily to join the Confederacy, but because it made so much money from the Southern Plantations. So, yes, the Civil War was about Slavery, but also about money and political power.
It's always a joy to watch y'all react. If you like movies that can be a little sad but with great endings, I recommend IN AMERICA. As far as I know, nobody has reacted to it.
Yes I remember Cocoon!!! It was the first time as a child seeing Jessica Tandy , found out very recently that she was born in the UK, Stoke Newington to be precise.... my birthplace too !!! Makes me super proud I don't mind saying ❤😂
Such a great film! I’ve watched it many times & love it! I, myself, am not a fan of fried green tomatoes, but my sister LOVES them. I’m not a huge tomato person anyways 😅
I don't know why nobody in production noticed that the final scene seems to imply that Ninny was Idgie and thought to change it, because it confuses a lot of people. Ninny said when she began her story that she married Idgie's older brother Cleo, so she couldn't also be Idgie, unless (insert southern incest joke I'm too lazy to make, but refuse to ignore). I always assumed the little girl Sipsy told to get help was Sipsy's daughter, not her sister Mrs. Otis, because Big George looks at least 30 and he's Sipsy's son, so Sipsy has to be 45+, and that little girl looked about 8. It's like one of those Einstein puzzles: Sipsy is Big George's mother, Big George is at least 30, and the little girl looks around 8. Idgie is around 20-25, Ninny is the wife of Idgie's older brother, and Ninny and Mrs. Otis were roommates at the retirement home (implying they were somewhat close in age). The only way that little girl could be Mrs. Otis is if Sipsy's mom had her daughers 35+ years apart AND either Cleo Threadgoode married someone 15+ years his junior in Ninny, or Ninny is 15+ years older than Mrs. Otis, but they both went to a nursing home at the same time and Mrs. Otis died first for some reason. The timelines just don't really work.
I love y’all’s commentary and reactions esp to this movie. Just knowing there are families where a mom would have the same beliefs as me, like your mom does, is so cool 😎 my mom and I have never got along and I’m 36 now 14:23
I just watched the movie since it is trending in Netflix. And I looked for a reaction video to see what other people think of the ending. Glad I found your channel. I love mom’s commentaries, I can tell she’s a big 90s fan, which is the decade of my formative years. Looking forward to watching more of your reaction vids!
33:40 soooo it doesn’t matter what anyone says…..(1) they cooked Frank and served him to the investigator. And (2) Mrs Threadgood is 💯 Idgy!!! This movie is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time!!! Joined by Tombstone, The Breakfast Club, Forest Gump, and the Shawshank Redemption…. (Tombstone and TBC battle for the #1 spot daily) oh I am obsessed with Harry Potter but I don’t find it fair to include them because they would easily take the first 6 spots…. But yeah …. I am so very happy y’all watched this on the channel…. I love y’all !! Jessica Tandy movies Batteries Not Included and my favorite Nobody's Fool 1994 with Paul Newman, Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith. This also is her last movie.
Yep, makes me tear up every time. I’ve heard that in the book Idgie and Ruth were lesbian lovers. I had a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson since she was in Some Kind Of Wonderful. One of Eric Stolz’s first movies I think. Classic 80’s.
Yeah they were, in the book Buddy never met Ruth, she came after he died, but when Idgie first saw Ruth, as the elderly would say she was smitten with her. And of course Idgie's parents knew this and they knew Ruth also had feelings for Idgie, so in a way when they need Idgie to stay or do something they knew Ruth was the only one to get her to do it...and they were fine with them having feelings for each other
"Sometimes we cry our eyes out on our way TO the ending"- prophetic words, Jen! ❤ And I would LOVE to see you and Nick watch Cocoon- it's such a moving movie.
The women in this film are all amazing. And Fannie Flagg is such a great Southern storyteller. Her books are wholesome with colorful characters (with equally colorful names) and full of unexpected, and often hilarious, twists.
Retrospectively, you could almost solve the murder mystery by algebra. You don't hire Cicely Freakin' Tyson for nothing. Lois Smith is always a welcome presence. Anyone who shared the screen with James Dean is okay by me. If you suspect that Ninny is Idgie, you have to rethink her claim that she married Idgie's brother.
Mrs. Threadgood is not Idgie. She is Idgie’s sister-in-law. She married Idgie’s older brother Cleo. Mrs. Threadgood tells Evelyn about her son Albert & that’s a big clue that she’s not Idgie because Idgie was a le$bian. Her relationship with Ruth was romantic. They were a couple. She is Big George’s daughter (Sipsey’s granddaughter) who was called by her nickname, Naughty Bird.
And in the book, Vesta was not Ed’s aunt, but another unrelated nursing home resident who obviously has some sort of dementia or other mental health condition.
One of my favorite movies. This movie inspired me to read Fanny Flagg's books. Including the sequel to the book Fried Green Tomatoes. It's called The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop, and it's just as good.
I think Ninny (Jessica Tandy's character) was married to Cleo who was a brother of Idgie and Buddy. Pretty sure she says that at one point, even though it's not clear who Cleo is. Skip the barbeque. Secrets in the sauce
Try Batteries not included.
I used to watch this movie with my grandmother all the time. I really enjoyed watching yalls reaction.
Fried Green Tomatoes - battered, deep fried, dashed with black pepper & parmesan cheese, served with Marinara - a delight for the tastebuds!
