The book is wonderful - and it's clear that Miss Ninny is NOT Idgie Threadgood. They were neighbors. And it's also clearer about the love between Ruth and Idgie - they were a couple, true partners for life.
I'm reading the book at the minute. I'm only just past Buddy's death but there are already quite a few changes. The movie and the book are different and it's clear in the movie that Ninny is supposed to be Idgie. They, obviously, decided to change it so it was more about friendship, overcoming grief, the mystery of Frank, and the bonds created in this small town. I think this is due to being made in 1991, this was pre-Will and Grace and the L-Word which were two shows that unapologetically showcased same-sex relationships. I'm not a fan of remakes but I would love to see a multiple-episode drama which shows a truer version of the book. Particularly showcasing more of The Threadgoode family.
As a grown man, this is one of my favorite movies. Came out the year I was born. I remember watching it for the first time on TV because my mom was watching it. It's just a great movie overall, and I always choke up when Ruth dies while Idgy tells her the familiar tall tale, and Sipsey hugging her and saying all the right things
TRUE FACT....A stunt double was hired to do the Bee scene but didn't show. So Mary Stewart Masterson (Iggy) actually did that scene herself. This movie is one of the best movies ever made. So many stories within ONE movie.
She showed. She just refused to do the stunt. In the behind the scenes footage you can see Masterson doing the stunt while the double just kind of looks on.
At the wedding scene, mama Threadgoode says “Imogene Louise Threadgood, this is your mama”. Idgie is short for Imogene. The book is a much larger story. A really good story about southern life in the depression. There’s much more about Big George’s family that I wish they could have told in the movie but they focused on Idgie and Ruth’s and Ninny and Evelyn’s story.
They also cut out the fact that Ruth and Idgie were a lesbian couple who did the closest thing to legal marriage which was own a business. Im surprised they didn’t question any of the gayness

Fannie Flagg, who played the speaker at the ladies conference wrote the award winning story this movie was based on. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. I am 64 years old, from near Tuscaloosa Alabama. As a child I watched Fannie on a Birmingham news station. We were so proud of the success of this movie. It was huge at that time, still a favorite of many. Thanks for watching it.
@@injunsun We all know, I'm from Alabama and we know it was Fannie's way of telling everyone she's a lesbian, but that is nothing to be proud of, so one day all sexual deviants will judged along with liars, and thieves and wind up in hell (Revelation 20:8 says so). Thats a hell of a price to pay for being dumb.
Fannie was also on Alan Funt's "Candid Camera" for awhile. Did that skit about the woman picking the front of a car off the ground, IIRC (it was one of my parents' favorite shows, they were delighted that a Southerner was on it).
The story in this movie is based on true places. The Whistle Stop Cafe was based on a real restaurant in Irondale, Alabama called the Irondale Cafe that is still open today that is known for its fried green tomatoes. Fannie Flagg the author grew up in Birmingham and was aware of the restaurant.
Fannie Flagg grew up in Irondale and these characters were based on real people. My daddy grew up with her and knew who they were. But yes the cafe is still there
The movie is filmed in Juliette GA! The restaurant is real in the movie and the buildings are shops now! One of the shops plays the movie nonstop! We have been there several times on days to get out! The river is peaceful and beautiful!!!
When I was in high school in Texas, My best friend and I volunteered at a nursing home. I did the hair. She did nails and told crazy stories that no one believed, but it was fun. For about a year and a half, my hands were pink from that hair rinse. That pink hair. Some looked blue. Some looked purple. Mostly pink. I miss those days. The 70’s.
I adore this movie! When Asia was talking about how she likes movies where a character kinda narrates and tells you the story of the movie, a movie came to mind that I don't see reactors reacting to. It's called, "Secondhand Lions." Y'all might want to check it out. ❤
And Ruth said: "Whither thou goest, I will go. Where thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people." - this was the Bible verse Ruth send Idgie telling her she would be her partner in life if she came to get her. The lesbian aspects are often very subtle to those not LGB+, but I recognized it immediately being lesbian myself. The book goes much more into this aspect of their relationship. Yes, they _were_ friends for life. And soulmates.
When Ruth and Idgie are sitting on the riverbank, and Ruth says she's getting married "to the man I'm supposed to marry,"....the look on Idgie's face says it all. She refused to go to the wedding. That scene where Idgie comes up on Ruth's porch with the pie.....is pure love. I saw an elderly lady watch this film, and when Idgie walked up on that porch, she said "Idgie is in love with Ruth." It doesn't take a psychiatrist to figure it out
It's nice that viewers are no longer triggered by the thought that they are in a lesbian relationship. Back in the day, straight women were screaming from the rafters that they were just friends and they would not entertain any other option. Which was weird considering Fannie Flagg, and sad.
Yep. An awful lot of reacters seem to miss it altogether. I'd read the book first, so I can't really say if it's too subtle for the straight folks to catch. But I will say, as a Pan woman, it's obvious to me in the movie.
@@Blaize24 I read that during the production, the 2 actresses (the 2 Marys) wanted their relationship to be more obvious, but the producers wanted to appeal to a 'wider audience'; as in $$$....So they kept it subtle
If you guys wanna see the best Kathy Bates performance I highly suggest you guys check out Dolores Claiborne, everybody talk s about Misery but when it comes to Kathy Bates in Stephen King adaptations this is the one. IMO it's one of the best of not the best adaptation of a Stephen King novel ever. It is an acting masterclass, the cast is on another level and however good Kathy might be wait till you meet Vera Donavon 😲😲😲
Ninnie was not Idgie. It is a little more clear in the book. There is a sequel written and that is made more clear. Idgie ended up moving to Florida and running a road side store with her brother. Ninnie lived with Evelyn till her death and she got Whistle Stop back up and running.
My mother, who passed recently, was the one to introduce me to this movies! It's been one of my favorites ever since! The actress who played Ruth is Mary-Louise Parker. It you've checked out the show "Weeds", she's the lead on that show. Jessica Tandy, who played Ninny, had previously won the Oscar for Best Actress in 89 for "Driving Miss Daisy". This was the very next movie that she did. The same goes for Kathy Bates, who had just won Best Actress for "Misery". They kept offering her "Misery" type roles until the "Fried Green Tomatoes" script got to her. A lot of people think that Ninny is Idgie, but she really isn't. Even in the book, Idgie is alive and Buddy Jr. is with her.
Jessica Tandy was one of my favorite actresses. It is a testament to her talent that this elderly British actress could pull off such a convincing southern accent. So many actresses today just do not get it right. It always sounds so fake and cartoonish.
18:40 She's a Bee Charmer. A person who can soothe and communicate with bees, without the assistance of protective clothing, thereby allowing them to "charm" some honey away from the hive without getting stung. "You're a bee charmer, Idgie Threadgoode. That's what you are, a bee charmer." - Fannie Flagg, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
Another good Southern tale is the movie Sling Blade staring Billy Bob Thornton he won a Oscar for his acting. This Movie was very popular and iconic today. You will both love this movie.
Sling Blade is so good, and it was filmed in the town where my mom grew up. One of the scenes was apparently filmed at a store my granny used to work at too!
This is one of my absolute favorites. Jessica Tandy who plays Ninny, was married in real life to another actor, Hume Cronyn, for 50+ years. He’s in a great one you might want to check out called Cocoon from 1985.
I am now 56 years old. The elderly people who I have spent time with over the years are the most memorable people. They are fascinating. They are honest. They are real and they love to tell you stories. The closest thing to church❤. Respect your elders... Always
I haven't been able to watch this movie since my mom died 2 years ago. It was her favorite and we spent so many Sundays watching it together. Thank you for bringing back such good memories.
Buddy Jr lost his arm in a train accident. You see on his tombstone that it says “Here lies his arm.” In the book, Ruth and Idgie were in a relationship. And Ninny Threadgoode (Jessica Tandy) was a separate character. Also, you guys didn’t watch the Extended Cut. For some reason, they cut out Grady explaining that he doesn’t march in those KKK parades. They built the restaurant for this movie on location and it has been a restaurant ever since. It’s in Georgia, though, not Alabama. I believe it’s about an hour outside of Atlanta and it’s called The Whistle Stop Cafe.
I don't believe she was Idgie. Because she said in the movie that she married into the Threadgood family. Yep you're right , when telling the story she never referred to herself in the story.
I don't either. She even explicitly states which brother it is she married and there is no reason for her to lie. Plus Idgie was very tomboyish and Ninny wore dresses and got her done as a lady of her age would.
JESUS! You have no idea how I am feeling right now! Extreme nostalgia! I saw this movie as a kid and it was the very first shocking, detrimential movie in my life. I totally forgot about it!
Idgie was not Ninny Threadgoode, the Jessica Tandy character. Ninny married Idgie's older brother, Cleo. She introduced herself to Evelyn at the beginning of the movie, as Mrs. Cleo Threadgood and said she had been married to Idgie's brother.
I know she isn't in the book, but I always assumed she was telling the truth-she's both Idgie AND married to Idgie's brother. It would explain why her son was born with so many health issues, since he would have been the product of incest.
Wrong. It's heavily implied that she is Iggy..."sometimes I think I get a glimpse of her" She says that because it's here ..she sees her in the mirror sometimes She said that in the beginning because she didn't want to let on that she was Iggy
@@kathleenclark815 No you are mistaken. At the beginning of the movie Ninny introduced herself to Evelyn as Mrs. Theo Threadgood and says she was married to Idgie's brother, Cleo. Ninny wasn't using an alias and she sure wasn't getting honey from a tree right after getting out of the nursing home. You might want to rewatch their first meeting.
@@kathyk5319 Look it up. Google is easy. I've watched it many times. In the book they are two separate characters. In the movie it's implied they are the same. Notice how she doesn't say her first Name? Just says "Mrs. Theo Threadgood" Then she says "they just call me Ninny". I agree that the book it's different. But look up what it says about the movie..and you will see.
I spent a lot of my teenage years swimming there. That old mill and the dam is in Juliette, Ga. I remember when they started filming at the Whistle Stop Cafe they came and spread dirt over all the roads to get that old timey look. A couple of my sisters friends got cast as extras in the Cafe. They had real good food there, especially for some stoned teenagers . 😂
"Iggy is gangster." She is throwed all the way off, LOL. This is one of my favorite films... and I'm a dude. I've never understood the bee thing. As near as I can figure, humans have certain hormones, pheromones, all kinds of mones, and some keep bees chilled out.
Man, there is a girl on UA-cam now who does the exact same thing. I forget her channel's name, but she keeps showing up in my shorts feed. People call her when they find a bee swarm living somewhere, and she comes and takes the bees to safe homes. She just walks right into them and handles them like it's nothing.
This was filmed in Julliette, GA. The dilapidated town really existed and they filmed all of the "modern" scenes first. Then they restored the town and filmed all the "flashback" scenes. It still stands today and is a bit of a tourist attraction with all sorts of shops, etc. Yes, you can even buy fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
BJ and Asia, the older woman’s mind was sharp as a tack. She was telling the story like somewhat like riddles that you have to figure it out when she told a story sort of speak because of the circumstances that it involves someone that died that could be the reason why she skirted around it so much about herself. Just an FYI thank you for sharing. take care and be safe.🫶🏻🤠
The Whistle Stop Cafe in the movie is in Juliette Georgia and of course they serve fried green tomatoes every day. The Threadgood house that you see at the beginning of the movie is in Senoia Georgia. This is the same town made famous for The Walking Dead. I lived there and it's a beautiful place.
I don't think Ninny and Idgie are the same person. In the book, where she is featured in the flashback stories, definitely not, and I don't believe she is in the movie either, although a lot of people do. In the movie: Ninny Threadgoode was married to Idgie's older brother, Cleo. "Mrs. Cleo Threadgoode. . . . I was practically adopted by the Threadgoode family. I married her brother, Cleo." She tells Evelyn this when she meets her for the first time. Ninnie says in voiceover narration that she had always had a crush on Buddy. Idgie was attached to her brother, but not like that. Ninnie says she was never brave like Idgie and Ruth. Ninnie says Sipsie told her years later about what really happened to Frank, which Idgie would already have known in detail. Those are things in the movie that strongly suggest they are different people. Also, just my opinion: Idgie was raising Buddy and Ruth was the love of her life. I don't see her marrying a man and having children (or child), which Ninnie tells Evelyn she has done. Of course, she could have been assaulted and told Evelyn a lot of lies, including a crush on her own brother and a marriage to another fictitious brother of Idgie. Are those the lies she would tell, though, even if she wanted to pretend, in telling the stories, that she was not Idgie? I don't necessarily think everything we see in the flashbacks is what is told to Evelyn. She may give her the broad outlines of what she knew at the time or was told later (as she does with what Sipsie told her) but we are shown what actually occurred. That's how I have to take a lot of flashbacks, for various reasons.
50:27 The book makes it clear Ninny is not Idgie, the movie kind of makes it clear in that she talks very matter-of-factly about being married to Idgie's brother, Cleo and having a mentally disabled son with him who only survived till he was 30, but the movie also does make the matter gray enough to leave that window open for interpretation by the viewer.
The beehive scene was all her. They sprayed a drop of queen bee pheromone on her and that’s how they swarmed her. She never was stung if I remember. But she did that scene all on her own.
My mother passed away the year of her 80th birthday. It's been about 6 years now. I remember my mother saying something similar to me the last time we spoke, that morning. I'm at the jumping off place and I'm not scared one bit. My mother told me that she wasn't afraid to die in the sense that someone my age is. Not seeing a future is not depression or scary when you realize that there is so much good in your life to reflect on.
This is why this movie was a hit (I saw it in the theater when it premiered). It's about love, life and loss....even Buddy's death. My girlfriend said "Why did they put that in the movie?" Well.....accidents kill people every day. Movies that reflect reality always hit a nerve with folks
Yes, this is one of my favorite movies. Not many people on UA-cam don't react to it. So I'm so glad your guys did. It's just a great movie. The characters are great. The story's great, it's just a wholesome movie.
This has become a classic movie. It takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and relationships. There are also so many important moral elements to the story. ❤❤❤
Another fave of mine, classic. Buddy Jr only lost his arm so they had a funeral for his arm .. the headstone read "here lies Buddy's arm". This was filmed in my home state of Georgia in the city of Juliette. Altho its set in the 20's of Alabama. Whistle Stop Cafe is still there in operation selling honey & fried green tomatoes. Not sure about that sauce tho😉😊 Great reactions & glad y'all enjoyed it. 👍🏼
Such a great movie!! One of my favorites. This is based on the book, Fried Green Tomatoes. The person (Fannie Flagg) who wrote the book is the instructor of the class at the beginning of the movie.
Great movie, great acting, once again, Katie Bates is great, how at first she act like the surmise insecure wife, and how the story changed her, and became sure of herself, and the bee charmer Idge and Ruth, their friendship, is one of the best in movies,
One of my favorite movies of all time. Great cadt, great story. I haved loved Mary Stuart Masterson forever and love her as Idgie. Now I'm craving fried green tomatoes?
My dad was a hig western movie fan but never missed a chance to re-watch this movie when it came on the TV. It reminded him of his time growing up in rural America and eating his mom's fried green tomatoes
I never tire of watching the two of you. Many content creators do reviews, but a huge part of why I watch you both is your personalities. You are both so real and down to earth. Thank you!
I didn't know that Norman Lear executive produced this movie. He was the sitcom king of the 70s with hits like the Jeffersons, All In The Family and Good Times just to name a few.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It introduced me to the concept of a chosen family & that you can find your own way of life without it being a bad thing. It also was the first movie I watched that showed two women living together (yes, they were a couple - it's more obvious in the book) & it not being an issue for anyone. It holds a very special place in my heart.
This was the last film my mother worked on before retiring in 1990. She worked in the wardrobe department. I’m also in the scene as one of the young ladies in the wedding scene at the house in the beginning of the movie.
So the first time I saw this, I was in my AP English class sophomore yr and it was the last week of the school yr. Fastfoward to about a yr ago, I watched it for the first time with my wife. It's funny how I didn't understand what was happening as a rebellious teenager, and watching it as an adult, I get it haha. As usual, it was fun to watch y'all react to hidden gems such as these. Love and peace to y'all!
Thatnks for watching this one! One of my absolute favorite movies. My grandma took me to see this when it came out. I was the only 10 year old boy in the theater, but I laughed and I cried and it was such a beautiful experience.
Based on a book by Fannie Flagg, one of the great Southern storytellers. Her novels are wholesome and hilarious, full of crazy twists and colorful characters with equally colorful names.
😊So glad you two liked this❤I always cry in this movie but it is such a beautiful story of family, community and friendship. Jessica Tandy has some great 80's movies. Cocoon from 1985 and Driving Miss Daisy 1989. Also Mary Louise Parker(Ruth) stars in Weeds and it is an excellent TV 📺 series to watch....funny and lots of crime/drama too
I cry everytime I see this movie and I cried again watching your reaction. I’m 29, raised in Texas and I think one of the best gifts my mom ever gave me was showing me movies like this and the color purple when I was a kid. These movies completely shaped how I saw the world and I always end up coming back to them from time to time as an adult. I’m glad y’all liked it.
My kids grew up with me watching this movie a million times over. Several years back they had fried green tomatoes at the state fair. Our rule at the fair is that we share everything, and whoever likes it best can have what's left. There were 6 tomatoes between 6 people. All of us tried one or two bites, basically consuming 1/2 of one tomato slice. My youngest LOVED them, and for the 1st time in his life got almost the entire order. That was about a decade ago, and he still orders them anytime he sees them on the menu. He's in college now, and recently met someone who knows how to make them. They've promised to teach him how to do it. And in return he has agreed to teach them how to make one of his specialties, but they haven't decided which one. 💜
This is absolutely one of my favorite movies!!! I've seen it at least 10 times!!! Fried Green Tomatoes are delicious!!! One of my favorites and I make them any chance I get! Pick 'em when they are green and firm - slice - and I coat in flour - some use cornmeal and flour - fry until golden brown - I make an aioli with mayo, sour cream, dill and hot sauce or you can just dip in ranch dressing! They are delicious!! Please look up Cicely Tyson movies -- she's awesome in this movie - but she's one heck of an actress and we just lost her not too long ago in January 2021...she was 96 and still acting pretty much! One heck of an actress - she was in The Help, she was in Winn-Dixie, Roots, She played Miss Jane Pittman in the movie of her life- the movie Sounder and many more and all worth watching!!
I absolutely love this movie and find myself watching it like once a month without even realizing it! It's the type of nostalgic, wholesome, heartwarming movie you just don't see much of anymore. And here's a fun fact.... Evelyn's friend with the heavy southern accent did the voice of Patti Mayonnaise from Doug!
I'm currently rewatching this reaction to Fried Green Tomatoes. Again, one of my all time favorite movies. I love what Asia said in the opening dialogue about disliking fried green tomatoes. I'm from Georgia and I absolutely love them. But definitely some Southern delicacies that I won't touch with a 10 foot pole (there's a Southern phrase for you 😂). Things like chitlins and pigs feet. Nope! Other people love them, but not this Southern girl. I remember when I was around 4/5 years old my grandmother (who was from rural Alabama) tried to get me to eat frogs legs. She attempted to tell me they were very small chicken legs but I didn't buy it for a second. Needless to say I never did eat those frog legs. Never have, never will 😅.
For some reason we had a recorded tape of this movie at my house when I was a kid and I watched it a zillion times. Jessica Tandy and Cicely Tyson are legends! And Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Chris O’Donnell and Mary Louise Parker are the next generation of legends.
I'm really glad you reacted to this movie. It along with The Shawshank Redemption which you already reacted to, and one other are probably my favorites. If you enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes I highly recommend you watch "Stand by Me," a completely different scenario, but another great story told in flashbacks, with suspense and humor, that really leaves you with the feels when it ends. I guarantee you will love it
SO EXCITED Y’ALL ARE REACTING TO FRIED GREEN TOMATOES!!! This (along with Steel Magnolias and When Harry Met Sally) are my Holy Trinity of chick flicks - they’re pretty much the only three I’ve ever liked. The book FGT by Fannie Flagg is Southern storytelling at its finest.
Her name was Idgie which was short for Imogene. Even though the movie seems to hint that Ninny was Idgie at the end, she wasn't. In the beginning she even said she married one of Idgie's brothers Cleo and later said she had a son Albert. This movie was based novel and, in the book, Ninny and Idgie are definitely different people.
I think, though, that since the movie suggests it so strongly then it's perfectly fine to interpret it that way --- it's how I always understood it to be.
18:58: Mary Stuart Masterson's (Idgie) stunt double for the bee scene quit, so the actress did it herself. Supposedly she wasn't stung, but no one can confirm that. 🐝
Its a real place. I live 30 miles from it. the restaurant makes the best fried green tomatoes! A friend if mine bought the town. you should visit if you are ever in Georgia. Juliette Georgia!

I visited the filming location in Juliette, GA back in the 90s a couple years after this movie came out. We are at the cafe but they didn’t have fried green tomatoes available that day.
My dad cooked fried tomatoes. He sliced them and then sated them before he dunked them in whisked egg and then flour before frying in hot shortning. Yum!!
One of my all time favorites. Glad you checked it out.🍿🥂Ahhh 90's films. So many good one's flooding to mind now. Has anyone suggested "THELMA & LOUISE"' 91(Susan Sarandon. Gene Davis, very young Brett Pitt)? "KALIFORNIA"'93 also has narration throughout w/(Brad Pitt, David Duchovny (The X-Files), Juliette Lewis? Well I am. Both are excellent choices. Think about it.🍿🥂
My family had this movie on VHS way back in the day when not everyone had cable. Often when nothing good was on tv in the day I'd pop this in and watch it on my own as like a nine year old. A classic imo.
I love fried green tomatoes…both the movie, and the food. Honestly, I have to keep my husband out of the tomatoes in mid summer (he is the one who fries up the green tomatoes in our family…a childhood favorite,) and firmly explain to him, “fried green tomatoes are what we do, AT THE END OF THE SEASON, with the tomatoes which will not manage to ripen. I need these ones to ripen so we can eat or can them.” He knows. It’s more of a joke, now. This movie? Classic. (We are both from Southern families and live in Missouri…fried green tomatoes are a treat saved for late September.)
The book is wonderful - and it's clear that Miss Ninny is NOT Idgie Threadgood. They were neighbors. And it's also clearer about the love between Ruth and Idgie - they were a couple, true partners for life.
They sure didn’t make it clear in the movie….who left the note that said bee charmer and the jar of honey at Ruth’s grave at the end?
The book was funnier too. ❤

She showed. She just refused to do the stunt. In the behind the scenes footage you can see Masterson doing the stunt while the double just kind of looks on.

The movie is filmed in Juliette GA! The restaurant is real in the movie and the buildings are shops now! One of the shops plays the movie nonstop! We have been there several times on days to get out! The river is peaceful and beautiful!!!
Fannie Flagg used to be on game shows a lot when I was young, and she had smaller acting roles, and then she came out with this show.
This movie and Steel Magnolias were two staples growing up in the south in the 80s and 90s....I'm so glad you two reacted to both
Facts.
WA state here....these are both universal staples for that era.
I grew up in California and they were staples there too. 😊
@@angelam8982 - me too!! 🍎 🌲 🌾 ✈️ ❤️
I didn't know they reacted to Steel Magnolias. Off to find it now!
When I was in high school in Texas,
My best friend and I volunteered at a nursing home.
That's a great movie!
I love that movie!!!
I absolutely love that movie! Robert Duvall, Michael Caine. The telling of a real life Fairytale. It's wonderful, and so few have reacted to it.
Tossing my vote in for *Secondhand Lions* as well! It deserves so much more attention than it gets.
I love that one!
Great movie! ♥Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman were both exceptional in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy." ♥
Thank you for pointing this aspect out. I think the story is even more beautiful when you read it as a love story.
I second this! Kathy Bates is phenomenal.
@@rebo2610 Everyone in the cast is they're all bringing their A game on that one.
Definitely worth reacting to "Dolores Claiborne" - in my top 10 of favorites!
Agreed!! I'm always suggesting this one! So bummed the reactors have not started the trend yet!
It was a great movie!
As others have stated, as a grown man, it is absolutely in my top 10 all time of movies. As a Southerner, I can relate to it.
Ninnie was not Idgie. It is a little more clear in the book. There is a sequel written and that is made more clear. Idgie ended up moving to Florida and running a road side store with her brother. Ninnie lived with Evelyn till her death and she got Whistle Stop back up and running.
So interesting. This is the first time I’ve heard all this
I thought she was Idgie from childhood until this watching.😅
In the book no, but in the movie yes, it is implied. Fannie Flagg wrote the movie as well as the book and intentionally made that change.
The sequel is a wonderful book. Everybody who loves this movie owes it to themselves to read it.
In the movie she most definitely was, this is a poetic license taken by the director. It makes for a much better story
Never forget the lesson served, we all die twice. Once when our souls leave this world, and the last time our names are spoken.
He didn't win for his acting. It was for best adapted screenplay. But his acting was fantastic for sure.
"I sure do love those french fried potatoes." "No you don't Oprah!"
my dad and i loved that movie. we quote “whatcya kill jesse fer?” regularly lol
YES!!! I second this. I wish more reactors (or ANY) would react to Cocoon.
They were also good in Batteries Not Included. They were a power couple back in the day.
I love that movie!
@@TechnicallyTexan same, I love Cocoon and as someone who's lost all her grandparents, I bawl every freaking time.
@@pangaea90 one of my favorites
I love how you didn't notice the timing of the BBQ. 🤣 I remember the theater going absolutely wild when we figured it out. 🤣
Thanks for sharing that memory. That would have been exciting
Thanks!
I am now 56 years old. The elderly people who I have spent time with over the years are the most memorable people. They are fascinating. They are honest. They are real and they love to tell you stories. The closest thing to church❤. Respect your elders... Always
They are my favorite people! Them and small kids
In the novel they were Lesbians , Edgie was in love with Ruth ! But in the movie they left it up to the viewer to figure it out !
The producers wanted the film to have a wide audience, so they kept it subtle
I haven't been able to watch this movie since my mom died 2 years ago. It was her favorite and we spent so many Sundays watching it together. Thank you for bringing back such good memories.
❤❤❤
Juliette, GA. It's still open, and people still make the pilgrimage, which is sweet.
It was Idgie. Remember the honey? THAT's how we are to know.
How y’all got through the movie without crying…whew it gets me every time.
JESUS! You have no idea how I am feeling right now! Extreme nostalgia! I saw this movie as a kid and it was the very first shocking, detrimential movie in my life. I totally forgot about it!
The book clears up a lot of these questions, There is also more focus on Big George and his family. Buddy Jr Grows up, gets married and is very happy
Wrong. It's heavily implied that she is Iggy..."sometimes I think I get a glimpse of her"
She says that because it's here ..she sees her in the mirror sometimes
She said that in the beginning because she didn't want to let on that she was Iggy
Theo Threadgood"
Then she says "they just call me Ninny". I agree that the book it's different. But look up what it says about the movie..and you will see.
@@kathyk5319 No. Look it up. The movie. Is different than the book
This movie brought to mind “Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood,” and “Eve’s Biyou”I’d recommend both, fun reaction 🥰
My grandmother used to make fried green tomatoes in her cast iron skillet that I have now.
Such a great movie!!! Kathy Bates is hilarious!
This is such a good, memorable movie with a great cast, it's always fun to watch.
It's Idgie Threadgoode, not Itchy.
❤ yes it is!!! We love going there for the day to get out!!!
I don't think Ninny and Idgie are the same person. In the book, where she is featured in the flashback stories, definitely not, and I don't believe she is in the movie either, although a lot of people do.
In the movie:
Ninny Threadgoode was married to Idgie's older brother, Cleo.
Also, just my opinion:
Idgie was raising Buddy and Ruth was the love of her life.
Idgie and Ruth are not only "lifelong friends"; they are a romantic couple, two women in love who raised a child together.
One of the greatest movies, A movies about true friendship. Love or Channel Asia and B J.
Ed and Evelyn had been married around 25 years- that tends to be how marriages are that far in.
I think Ed is a good man, just clueless.
This is in my top tier of favorite movies. It is a treat to enjoy great movies with you guys. This one definitely qualifies in that category.
Miss Thorgood was only supposed to stay short term, but stayed years longer to take care of her roommate.
After her roommate died, she moved on.
Yes, this is one of my favorite movies. Not many people on UA-cam don't react to it. So I'm so glad your guys did. It's just a great movie. The characters are great. The story's great, it's just a wholesome movie.
AwkwardAshleigh reacted to it and cried like a blubbering fool. It was great!
Far too many Reactors are watching all the same movies (Marvel, DC etc)...When there's tons of great old movies out there
This has become a classic movie.
Great movie, great acting, once again, Katie Bates is great, how at first she act like the surmise insecure wife, and how the story changed her, and became sure of herself, and the bee charmer Idge and Ruth, their friendship, is one of the best in movies,
I LOVEEEE this movie. I randomly found it one day and was obsessed
Thank you!
this is one of my favorite movies. so glad you two are reacting to it! TOWANDA!
My daughter and I loved watching this movie when she was little! Great pic. Thank.
I didn't know that Norman Lear executive produced this movie. He was the sitcom king of the 70s with hits like the Jeffersons, All In The Family and Good Times just to name a few.
Iconic comes to mind. This movie is timeless.
So heartbreaking, but so damn beautiful. I am glad you all got to finally see this masterpiece.
One of my all time favorite movies. That scene towards the end with Smokey Lonesome always gets to me.
Kathy Bates was in Misery and also Delores Claiborne
Kathy Bates was hilarious in the movie Bad Santa 2
"Just HOW many of those hormones you been taking?".....
😂
I absolutely love this movie and find myself watching it like once a month without even realizing it! It's the type of nostalgic, wholesome, heartwarming movie you just don't see much of anymore. And here's a fun fact.... Evelyn's friend with the heavy southern accent did the voice of Patti Mayonnaise from Doug!
She did sign the card "The Bee Charmer" which was Idgie! So she knew who she as :)
That was a brand new, freshly inked card on that grave. Hadn't been sitting there for long at all
Every since I saw that movie back when it first came out, I have always used the catchphrase, “the secret’s in the sauce.”😉 it comes in quite handy!
I guarantee you will love it
One of my all time favorites. How movies should be made. Jessica Tandy is a legend
One of Thee Greatest movies Ever..
True Love and Friendship
18:58: Mary Stuart Masterson's (Idgie) stunt double for the bee scene quit, so the actress did it herself. Supposedly she wasn't stung, but no one can confirm that. 🐝
In my opinion, if she managed to do it thay was because she had queen bee's pheromones on her.
(I follow the channel " Texas Beeworks ")
To this day, I think Jessica Tandy’s character WAS Idgy. Of course, we could have known if Idgy’s house had not been torn down, we may have found out.
So many greats in this movie! It's always been one of my favorites.
Its a real place. I live 30 miles from it. the restaurant makes the best fried green tomatoes! A friend if mine bought the town. you should visit if you are ever in Georgia. Juliette Georgia!
This is a Southern Sunday Special. With the Fried green tomatoes cast and Asia / BJ accents. Good reaction guys. 😀
I haven't seen this movie in forever, they truly don't make movies like this anymore. I loved watching yall react, literally felt like I was watching it with friends. Thank you for the video I'm glad you enjoyed ❤
I need these ones to ripen so we can eat or can them.”
He knows. It’s more of a joke, now.
This movie? Classic.
(We are both from Southern families and live in Missouri…fried green tomatoes are a treat saved for late September.)
In the book Iggy and Ruth became lovers. That was cut out of the film for obvious reasons in 1991. At least they stayed true to the characters.
This absolutely one of my favorite movies. Her name was Idgie, which was short for Imogene.
This was filmed 7 miles from my house and many of my friends had small parts. The restaurant "Fried Green Tomatoes" is still open and running strong.
Steel Magnolia is one of my favourite movies of all time. Always cry watching it. You will have to add it to the list.
They watched it. It’s on the channel.
