I've been on mounjaro for 2 years. I was 480 lbs and now 270 lbs. I had a blood test that indicated i would have a heart attack or stroke in 6 months without lifestyle change. Mounjaro helped my joint pain go away, which helped me go to the gym. I started strength training 4 times a week with daily walks aftetveach a meal. I prioritize protein by eating 200g of protein a day. I'm building muscle and losing fat, which is helping me become more insulin sensitive. I lost 210 lbs, and i feel so much better.
Dr. Spencer is a god-send and his team at Sequence (now WW Clinic) really did save my life! These medications are biological equity, giving me a fighting chance at health WITHOUT having to resort ot behaviors that come really close to self harm (some where). I have been able to lose 120+ lbs with the help of obesity care and have been able to keep it off without torturing myself. Such a blessing!
The first 10 minutes already so much great knowledge. I get a DEXA every 3 months. Used to have a high visceral fat amount, then got ig into a healthy value, and finally on my last DEXA my visceral is in the very healthy category. Dr. Spencer helped me understand the WHY behind why its important to understand & maintain good visceral fat.
I take Suboxone, when I take a GLP one I feel like I don’t have to take it anymore. Not only do I not want to eat I don’t want to drink or gamble and overall just feel calmer.
Good discussion of the GLP1s. I think a lot of people confuse the moral problem of gluttony with the medical problem of chronic obesity. The latter is more like an addiction, and addictions are terribly hard to overcome. Some people need to take a less dangerous drug to overcome dependency on a more dangerous drug. The GLP1 drugs are sort of like that -- using a less dangerous drug to overcome a more dangerous obesity addiction.
CGM for me doing the same think as GLP-1s. People change their behavior when they are being observed. Having device which constantly shows what is your blood glucose level can also helps you avoid sweets and junk food.
13:00 There already was a paradigm shift. It's just that BMI is good enough for general population and population studies. Would waist/length be better? Obviously, but takes longer to measure, is more invasive to measure AND we don't have that data from the past so the change is costly.
1:20:30 I don't think that theory is correct. Humans evolved to be fat storage machines so we could survive longer periods without eating. Being a fat caveman was probably attractive because it meant this human had a good supply of food.
One myth I keep hearing is it's cheaper to eat unhealthy. I don't believe that is true. I think part of the obesity increase is people moving away from cooking. Cooking is a forgotten skill. When I want to lose weight, I cook. It's not more expensive to eat rice, potatoes, frozen vegetables, chicken breast, and other leaner meats like pork loin. All this food is cheap, cheaper than eating crap. But it requires preparation and knowledge of how to cook. I think many people no longer like to cook, which is why they buy more expensive prepared crap even at the grocery store. I started to cost out this myth of the cheap, processed food being less expensive and it isn't. 10 lb. bag of potatoes is 4 or 5 bucks. Frozen or on sale chicken breast is 3 or 4 bucks a pound. Beef can be expensive, but lean pork loin is 3 to 5 bucks a pound. Pound or two bag of frozen vegetables is 2 to 3 bucks. Spices are fairly cheap on Amazon. Butter is cheap as is cooking oil. You can prep days of meals rather than stacking up what? Frozen pizza or eating a Stouffers big lasagna and definitely cheaper than fast food. I've queried people around me and they don't like to cook. Almost everyone has stopped cooking. I've seen far more males cooking today than females because for whatever reason a lot of women no longer learn to cook or want to cook. When I started cooking at home, I ate healthier and far cheaper than eating out all the time even if you do buy occasional crap like a frozen pizza or frozen burritos. Even cottage cheese with high protein is far cheaper than buying some crap food. I'm thinking lack of cooking skills or a desire to cook is a bigger culprit for modern obesity than food costs. Everyone working, no one wants to spend the time to cook. Just grab some convenient trash food on the way home and eat it. Food delivery services make it even more convenient to eat trash versus spending the time to buy and cook healthier food even if it is substantially cheaper. Though I do agree the food environment is terrible with hyper palatable food engineered to activate the endorphin response everywhere.
Ultraprocessed foods are absolutely (most of the time) more expensive than many whole foods. Cookies, cakes, chips, frozen meals, and packs of sodas are actually very expensive... more expensive than frozen and canned fruits/veggies, rice, potatoes, dairy products, beans, lentils and various cheap cuts of meats. People don't want to believe that, but they can calculate the costs at the store themselves. That's not even mentioning the absurdly high cost of fast food restaurants nowadays.

That’s awesome dude, good for you. Better living through science.
I just want to say “finally” I’ve been wanting to hear a long form conversation with Spencer for awhile now without someone shouting at him

Hell Yeah. Are you in Michigan or did they do remote?
Great discussions! Thanks Dr. Spencer, Dave, and Tom.

The GLP1 conversation starts around 1:36:00 for anyone who’s here for that specifically
SPENCER ON TABLE TALK?!
But will GLP-1 drugs stop Dr. Nadolsky from craving kettle chips?? He mentioned them so many times, I started craving them.

Is Dawson windhams episode ever going up?
Great Podcast
I thought there was supposed to be a new Bugez table talk dropping?

You think cottage cheese is healthy? Lol
@@mitchgowing2336 Are you for real? Nonfat cottage cheese far healthier than eating McDonalds or processed junk with tons of fat and crap.
I love table talk, i usually listen to all of them to the very end. This guy is so bad i had to stop listening for the first time. Ever
