Well first: the irony and hypocrisy of you posting this is through the roof. Second: The reason the modeling industry isn’t as diverse with their sizes is because all of the clothes are a specific size so the models have to all fit into that size. I personally think that we could make a more reasonable measurements the ideal of the clothing fit so that we don’t have these beautiful people at an unhealthy state of mind and weight
The ppl who make the clothes arent perfect and stick skinny like the clothing they make , which is disturbing. How do ppl enable these things in the world . but it will always keep happening.
I'm striving to become a fashion designer and if I'm successful and run my own business, I want my models to be healthy and not stick thin and anorexic looking. Btw not all models are really thin, but lots of runway models are.
Just keep in mind that there are healthy women who, as you said, are """stick thin"""... Be careful using those words, they are just as hurtful as the ones ignorant people use to describe "plus-size" women. A lot of women are genetically more thin (thin-thin btw, or in your words ""stick thin""; not the "perfect ideal skinny" people seem to love), just like a lot of women are genetically more "fat". People should be very careful, because when trying to fix a problem they may create another one. More body diversity for sure needed, but don't exclude """stick thin""" healthy women just because they don't fit with your ideals of beauty... that's exactly the problem you're trying to fix that "plus-size" women have... but, maybe without being aware of it, you're contributing to the same problem the other way around... Thin women are seen as unattractive cuz they're not within the "ideal body type", and your comment proves it...
@@BrunaSantos-kq4pd I agree with you, I'm not a model but I'm very thin, that's my genetic, im healthy, im not underweight and I often get comments like "you should eat more" "you look like an skeleton" "you look anorexic" "you shouldn't exercise, you're going to disappear" "real woman have curves" and those kind of things also hurt you and make you feel insecure about your body, it makes me a little bit sad seeing some people in the comments taking the body positive mesaage wrong and shaming thinner bodies :/

People wrongly make comments about us exercising, when doctors tell us we have to do it in order go gain weight/muscle. And sometimes it feels like body positivity is a one way thing, because I see a lot of people praising it and then talking badly about our body type... because “we’re unattractive”, “we don’t have any curves”, “all they see is bones”, etc etc... It makes me feel like sh*t

Gemma Ward, hope you are reading. You were a role model to me when I was young and struggling with eating disorders, because you were like the one brave enough to put on weight while being top top model and one of the prettiest faces in the industry. It had to be extremely hard. I love you!
When I was in year 5 (I think 4th grade) a girl in my class, Emily, was forced to be a child model by her mother. She wasn’t allowed to eat lunch, and she only told me that. She was extremely skinny and her mother had the audacity to call her “fat pig” in front of the whole class. It’s heartbreaking bc her mother is using her for money, and Emily is trying so hard to get out of it. She is in 7th grade now, and I heard she has extreme depression. This needs to stop
Vogue puts this out so the company can, in a sense, wash their hands. The company knows pressure is building because the masses are waking up and becoming restless. It’s pretty much - damage control. The business is built to protect and strengthen the establishment. These videos, although cathartic, are used as bread-crumbing. Just my opinion.
Guarantee many of the stylists and photographers etc who worked for Vogue, were just like this. Besides, when have Vogue used a model (not celebrity) that has been a healthy weight or fuller figured? I applaud this series but let's not pretend that Vogue is innocent
I literally started crying when I saw Gemma. I remember that Chanel show, she looked beautiful. But people criticized her for her weight and turned their backs on her. I am very happy that she has found tranquility because she is very beautiful outside and inside.
now i wanna start a company, modeling, use people of ALL shapes. sizes, colors, religion, etc. so that everyone feels welcomed and just happy being themselves but i’m only 13💀
The Problem are not the agency. It’s the customer. I am also in a model agency and they hate the fact that we always have to be this skinny... But when we’re not skinny we don’t get any jobs. Your Idea is good, but these models won’t get any jobs... :(
usually models have to be extremely skinny which takes a lot of unnecessary pain and starving but plus size models are different, they were accepted as a model for being who they already are and staying healthy. so of course they're happier.
She walked the Chanel spring 2008 show in a swimsuit looking like a healthy girl, but standing next to these younger and thinner girls, the press had a field day. She was going through a lot at that time in her life tho.

I remember this too. Ali Michaels and Gemma Ward were all over Teen Vogue back in the day as an "it" girl - then suddenly, one day. *poof* gone. I recall being a huge fan of them back in high school. Ali Michaels was known for her thick brows and Gemma for her "alien" beauty and being confused when i could no longer see them in subsequent issues.
wow i am soooo sad about gemma ward. as a teen, i thought she was the epitome of beauty and had no idea she was going through any of this. i really wish the best for her
Vogue: lets appear to be "woke" and forward thinking by making this content NOW all whilst ironically being apart of the machine, because woke + engagement = money.
Sandy Green Wouldn’t you rather they do this instead of perpetuating the pressure to be as skinny as possible? Regardless of Vogue’s role in creating this pressure, this is a discussion that needs to be had. And the fact that the most influential fashion magazine in the world having it is pretty phenomenal, wouldn’t you agree?
Gemma Ward was treated so horribly. She didn't give any background to what she was talking about because everyone knows. I think of that Chanel show - everyone was horrible to her.

I think that's the reason why women should learn to be confident and not respond to society's expectations and pressure. First it should start in the family. Mothers should celebrate their daughters body and not push them to lose weight (or gain in some cases). I have always been confident in my body and I understood pretty early that being "beautiful" is more important for a woman than being smart or nice or caring. Still in 2019, people are obsessed with their looks and social media doesn't help. When I see teenagers having surgery at young age and looking like 40 year-old women, I think it's so sad.

People wrongly make comments about us exercising, when doctors tell us we have to do it in order go gain weight/muscle. Ive had an eating disorder since I was 17. Im 38 now and just finally starting to feel like I'm beginning to be free of this beast. Its very hard.
Seeing Gemma cry like that destroyed me completely
Sol that was the point
I worked in the NYC fashion industry as a makeup artist since the 90s. It’s a toxic environment and don’t let this virtue signaling fool you.
So toxic yet nothing has changed
They choose to be models though
Gemma Ward has always been my favorite model. I just find her so dang beautiful!
I feel like Myla is talking about victoria secret
i thought the same
100%
That came to my mind as well
if its victoria secret they wouldnt tell her 1 month before… but 3/4/5 months before
@@indiakees9687 not for the casting
Imagine an industry that is so conceited that even a trendsetter like Gemma is shamed for her body
bolton Gemma was never a trendsetter at least not far as fashion. She lucked out and had an interesting look, but her actual fashion sense and walk were pretty average. She´s not like a Kate Moss or Naomi who actually started trends.
Vogue says "Thinner is better"
.......... BEYONCÉ KNOWLES
-pretty hurts... raw song..about reality
actually sia wrote that song
It breaks my heart to see Gemma hurt so badly. She was and is a beautiful person inside and out.
them: "I'm a model"
me: *i'M A pOTaTO*
Edit: I saw this comment just recently and I just realized that this "joke" is not that funny😬🤢( I commented this when it was early 2019)
ha. ha. very funny.
Was that supposed to be funny? Please stop potato jokes already...
hOw quirky of you
Anika i KnOw RiGhT ¿?

Myla looks so much like Mila Kunis. I thought she actually was Mila at first glance

Angel omg she does!! wow
My first reaction was "Jessie J!"
Same
Epic double standards Vogue.
As someone who struggled with a eating disorder since she was 14 till I was about 20 and sometimes no I still struggle. I feel so hard for this women, it made me actually cry.
1. I appreciate and respect these models for being to open and transparent.
2. Anna Wintour...the disgusting irony 😒
I just want to hug Gemma- I have always adored her. It is so sad to see women cry for just being normal women.
Omg, I grew up really liking Gemma Ward. So great to see her again. She and Lily Donaldson really became popular during the "doll" generation. And then she kinda went MIA after Heath Ledger's death, while Lily gained weight, and went off to model for Victoria Secret. Still love both girls. ❤
I remember when Lily tried to become relevant by befriending Kendall Jenner when Kendall Jenner did not have any friend in the industry lol, and then Kendall trashed her when Gigi Hadid became popular.
Was she related to Heath Ledger in any way? I'm sorry, I don't know much about the subject
Eureka Mreum she was dating him at the time of his death
The way Myla just started breaking down, goodness, it breaks my heart because that shame others inflicted on you never does truly go away, all we can do is try our best and better our habits.
Gemma Ward was EVERYWHERE until that Chanel show...
Which show??

@@racheltattersall337 she wasnt fat at all she looks good in it, the model industry is sick
I remember the media talked about Gemma so bad! I thought it was unjustified, still do, and I’m glad she got a chance to speak out about it!
I have always looked up to Gemma Ward and I wondered why I hadn't seen much of her for quite a while. Seeing her cry has made me cry, she is such an amazing woman and talent, it breaks my heart that the fashion industry has treated her so terribly.
this reminds me of when barbara palvin was being criticized some years ago bc she´s rather curvy and they were saying she´s fat, when she just grew... out of puberty
Now imagine not being conventionally attractive, & or a model and being body shamed.
Cant relate
AND WITHOUT BEING PAID
Literally tho
I think that's the reason why women should learn to be confident and not respond to society's expectations and pressure. First it should start in the family. Mothers should celebrate their daughters body and not push them to lose weight (or gain in some cases). I have always been confident in my body and I understood pretty early that being "beautiful" is more important for a woman than being smart or nice or caring. Still in 2019, people are obsessed with their looks and social media doesn't help. When I see teenagers having surgery at young age and looking like 40 year-old women, I think it's so sad. We give other people so much power over us, why should we care what other people think about us?
@@manoushb5699 YES. As a mother of a 17 year old and a 9 year old I am working so hard to help them see that social media is not real and those unrealistic standards are not something they should aspire to.
