Gruntruck - Crazy Love music video
really getting into the underground, pre-nirvana "grunge" scene. gruntruck, love battery, melvins, skin yard, paw, and of course TAD
all great bands also And blood circus ,Mudhoney
Rylee Strange check out Sprinkler , Pond and Hazel, from Portland (basically Seattle/grunge's sister city at the time). also the band Gravel (Break a Bone LP)
Was listening to pond yesterday
The Melvins aren't grunge.
Screaming Trees and Green River too
OK another Gruntruck story...Tad was releasing his band's new album at the Crocodile Cafe. It was invite only. My buddy had passes so we were there. Gruntruck was playing and we were grooving to the sludgey metal they brought, it was so good. The crowds back then were like being in heaven. All brotherly love man, and heavy duty rock and roll. So me and my friend Jason were smoking out in the pit, and the authorities at the place told us to go outside, we couldn't do that in there. So we walked out of the front doors and there was a line around the block for people wanting to get in. Me and Jason sparked it up right there in front of the venue, and then as everyone was trying to get in, we just walked back in with our stamps. It doesn't work like that these days but that was the shit man. We rolled like we belonged there and it worked. Great times!!
nice
that sounds like an awesome time
Ben was such a great vocalist but very underrated ... RIP Ben McMillan (1961-2008)
Excuse me, the singer died ? I remember seeing them opening for Pantera in Newport U.K in 1993....
@@mojopin70 Died in 2008...yes.
@@mojopin70 .
I live in Wales, I would've loved to have been there for that.
I caught them at the Offramp. They fucking killed it. God, I miss the 90's in Seattle.
Jennifer Warren No doubt.
That show was one of the best shows ever, two cans of food for earthquake relief 💯🔥🎸🤘🏻
OFFRAMP was a GO-TO FOR SURE...
ROCK CANDY TOO! 🤘😎
@@LEDFUT02 That’s right! I believe I gave a can of corn and a can of pumpkin. Anyone else remember what they donated?
@@YourArtistRob It feels like a hundred years ago. It also feels like about 4 years ago, depending on the day lol.
What an era! Long live Grunge 🤘🏾
The 90's were the best decade ever.
TheDirthound Yeah!
By a big margin. 60s not bad ( Beatles ,stones, Floyd, purple, zeppelin, Hendrix etc) but grunge era were the dirty sons😀me included us gen xers. Time for the sons and gals of x to step up
take two breaths and think back... that is 100% false.
Fuckin A.
Each era definitely has its strengths and weaknesses.. as time goes on, it becomes more clear in retrospect. During the 90's I was not digging much on the music. Now I find myself totally into alot of the bands I didnt really pay attention to back then. Keep an open mind. You will be rewarded.
This band is so unappreciated and deserves the best cause the rock harder then any band out there . I have the chimney fish in my ride going on three months now and all I do with it is turn it up loud and jam the whole cd front to end. JASON , NOLAN you guys rock bro keep on jammin.
I spent 1/3 my life growing up in Seattle (Wedgewood/Ravenna District). Not only did i listen to all the bands, but I knew them too. I was a huge Accused fan in the late '80's and early '90's. I bought this album in 1991 and realized Tommy Neimeyer was playing guitar. I was instantly hooked. Only saw Gruntruck once in 1992 in Spokane opening for AIC, but every Seattle grunge band used to "tour" Washington State and you could catch bands like Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, My Sister's Machine, etc. around the U District and Capitol Hill and little hole in the wall venues in places like Yakima, Richland, Spokane, or Pullman and only have to pay $5-15 per show. I miss those days.
I gave that singer a big ol bud after a show haha Miss these days very much. Some have no idea how many AMAZING musicians emerged between 1982-92.
Souls always want to sing or play music from the heart.
Think about that...
Now youre gonna see that type of musical explosion in near future..
1982-1992 was an understatement imo🤟🏻 More like 1970-very early 2000’s depending on what type of rock you like ofcourse😁 Personally i like it all👍
You guys have any old grunge concert shirts ?
I remember being stationed in west Germany in the AF and picking this album up in Trier at a little CD shop. This album has been in my collection ever since, great band that never got the recognition they deserved, it was right up their with AIC, STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, they def brought the grunge sound
I clearly remember this band opening for Pantera at Newport centre U.K 1993 I still have Dime's pick with razor slashes in it..
Thats fuking badass as fuck
Yeah I remember seeing them too, I was in the bar after and saw Gruntrunk in there but I was only a shy 18 year old kid so was too scared to say hi. Ha.
That's rough opening for the pantera psychos
Town and Country London supporting pantera. Well impressed and happy I saw them.
This band was mentioned as influential in the origins of grunge. I had to check them out and I'm glad I did. These guys were makin it great way before any of the 'mainstreamers'. Yeah, you know who they are!
I just stumbled on Gruntruck. Wow...what a great sound. Ben's vocals were amazing. From my reading very sad that they didn't get the recognition they deserved and then the sad death of Ben. Oh for the 80's and 90's, the best times of my life. 😔❤
Jammed this today with my RS gold 12s and the bass jams so good one of best sounding bass jams for rock on massive subs, this whole album,
I hung out with them after a show in Orange County Ca. They kicked total ass that night.
Why wasn't this bigger? SO DAMN GOOD.
heron killed these guys unfortunately. they were doing very well. drugs kill
@@VaughnBrown1965 the lead singer died from complications related to diabetes and the rest of the band is still alive wtf are you talking about
Because Soundgarden had already existed for several years, and was much, much better.
@@gregoreverb what you said doesn't even make sense. Where's the correlation between soundgarden existing and gruntruck not being bigger lmao
@@xurebss My point was that they sound like a third rate Soundgarden rip-off. They didn't deserve to be any bigger than they were. Got it now?
0:12 as an avid Alice in Chains fan, I honestly thought that was Layne Staley
Pink hair era yes !!!
Such a great time in music. I wish they were still around. I remember first seeing them as a kid during Beavis and butthead and being hooked. Great band! Thanks for positing this piece of kickass history
Saw them with AIC in 1992
Awesome! That is very lucky.
+azff Me too!
+azff upload the poster ass-chin
Lucky13 was at that concert Alice in chains grunt truck and the screaming trees was an AWSOME concert
Saw the same tour. I was 15.
This music video was edited by Travis Miller of Desert CAM Studios. Chip Miller was post production supervisor. The late Darren Lavett directed.
I remember watching this on mtv as a kid, I loved it bought it right after. Underrated awesome band wish I could of seen them live, still loving it in 2019
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
I saw them open for Pantera in 1993 Newport U.K...
Aaah the 90’s guitar sound. Boogie rectifiers with scooped mids and drop D guitar.
i used to rock out to this when i was 15!!! hahaha forgot all about them!!! back at full volume!!!!
I would raid my dad’s cd collection to hear different bands. How I heard gruntruck, yngwie malmsteen and king diamond. Good times

miss the 90s bands like grunt ruck!
I saw these guys a lot back in the early 90s. Last time was at Tad's record release party at the Crocodile Cafe.
Just discovered this gem 😵💫
Them and Skinyard never got the props they deserved
Same for TAD, and also My Sister's Machine IMO.
Anyone think this would make a good pro wrestling theme?
don't forget Truly
Mother Love Bone as well.
Same. I discovered them in bargain bins. I feel like I’m was the only guy who knew of these bands in West oz ( back in the day ) . tad were a bit better known. Also failure. Classic gems these cds. Only got 2 skinyard cds, cant find the others
One of Laynes favorite bands
+Tony Walters They are awesome but Layne was worried about Ben getting "Single White Female" on his ass. He looks "beardier"on the "Push" artwork and more "Layne-Esque" here.
One of mine, too!!
Caught these guys and Collision opening up for Circus of Power in Cleveland at the Flash Gordons. Still one of he best concert lineups I ever seen.
@Jefferson Andres Araujo Mendoza He really didn't
Nope layne kicked them off the tour because of the lead singers behavior. He was acting more and more like layne and trying to mimic everything he did on and off stage
Back in the 90's I got to go see these guys, Screaming Trees & Alice N Chains, and DAMN WAS IT LOUD! The Tacoma Dome had stretchmarks after that night!
Awesome Band.
Super underrated band. HAIL THE TRUCK
I once worked with the guitarist, he's a really cool dude🤘
Tommy is a great guitar player!!!
This band deserved to be bigger
This is pure Seattle sound!
First saw this on Bevis and Butthead. Love the song
FIRE FIRE FIRE
That's what brought me here!!!
This keeps cutting right to the core, wich always sinks deeper with time.....
Extremely underrated band!!
NO ONE is as good as aic
@@monkeyliver1986 That is hard to argue with. I'm gonna have to agree.
These guys tore it up back in the rock candy off ramp circuit days 🤘😎 🤘
Loved that venue!! I saw so many good shows there. That's the last place I saw Soundgarden. I met Jimi's dad there once at Hendrix theme night.
That's cool man,
I got to meet Al and Jimmy's step sister while standing in line at the Showbox before Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert with guest appearances... Turns out one of them was the lead guitars for Earth wind & fire and I got to sit down and shoot the breeze with him for a bit too... Very tall dude but very humble and sincere 🤘🏼😎
@@YourArtistRob I also met Jimi's nephew at his gravesite at the 20th anniversary of his death. Dude looked just like him. Very cool connections to have with Jimi. There was a band in Seattle in the early 90s called The Sky Cries Mary. They were good. Me and my friends hung out with Roderick, their singer at Rockandy during Hendrix theme night. We were smoking out in the crows nest and the owner of the place came by and told us to keep it low if we saw anyone wearing polyesther. He said it was dudes from the liquor board. LOL, what a cool chill time that was. Roderick was a trip and very cool.
He was right though they did wear polyester 🤣
Turns out I attended Jimi's last Seattle show at Sicks Stadium .
He passed away exactly one week after I was born.
Now read that again...
I had no idea until my early twenties when my mom brought it up casually in conversation...
I've been drawn towards art and music since my first memories and it's the one constant that stayed with me my whole life.
I was in third trimester in my mother's womb at that concert.
I had an epiphany,
suddenly my life made sense.
🤘🏼😎
CHEERS
@@YourArtistRob that is super sublime dude!! Jimi stories are so great.
Why didn't I ever heard of this band? Heard of Tad, Mudhoney etc but never this band.
Amazing Song! Remember me Soundgarden! 🤘❤🎵🎶🎵🎶
Sounds a bit like outshined by SG
Such a badass band
Yep. Gonna have to cover this.
Saw them 6 times approximately at Seattle Center several times at bumbershoot they hit a local following and it was always fun a little got a little tired of the moshing pit though
I’m pretty much been in that zip code too lately. I no idea there was so much quality stuff out there from this era
THIS IS SUCH A DISCOVERY😀
Eu nunca tinha ouvido falar dessa banda, o bom do rock é que a cada dia descombrimos bandas boas que soam como novas.🎸🤘🏻🎶
i saw these guys back home in 90 at the IOOF hall in kamloops bc canada and it turned into a fucking awesome riot. lol with me and my friends all in bands just fucking wrecking town lol. they played with Zig Zag Jesus, the smalls, chix diggit, it was fuckin awesome. that was an infamous gig it was oversold we photo copied a few tickets lol... it was fun.
Highly underrated band
I saw them play at the Offramp, they blew the roof off the place.
Saw then with Alice In Chains and Screaming Trees, awesome show!
I hate that I just discovered these guys and they don't exist anymore.
Curto muito essa banda !!!!
Damn, these guys kick ass! I need more psychedelic rock in my life.
Fucking amazing cover bro
An amazing band that ended too soon.
You look like Francis
Miss this band. Never got the props they deserved
first time listening to gruntruck heard of them through alice in chains and i already love them.
A Beavis and Butt-Head classic 🔥
Old grunge is the best!
I loved this fucking band
They were on beavus and butt head!!! This jams!!
This video has been approved by Beavis and Butthead. Thanks for your consideration.
It's like the toadies mixed with Peter Gabriel. What an interesting sound how did I not know this back in the day
Still love this.
I play electric guitar 43 yrs. Call me i need money
Who remembers what 2 cans of food they donated for earthquake relief to see this show at the Offramp? (Corn and pumpkin here)

MSM's lead singer Nick Pollock was in Alice In Chains before Jerry Cantrell.
They definitely toured with Alice In Chains & Screeming Trees I remember I was in NYC.
GREAT!!! Thanks a lot...love Gruntruck!
what.. i knew there would still be gems! ;)
New Grunt Truck coming out on 10.13.17 Gruntruck.com - found some old tapes?
Uhhh huh huh huh... Hey Beavis, this band is pretty cool.
This goes crazy
Cool song!!!!
Easily the most underrated album to energe from the grunge scene. I remember going to their second album pre release party at Entros in Seattle. Anyone else remember that? ??
Entros! That's some 90s Eastlake action.
What happened to these guys? They are awesome!
I love Gruntruck they should have made it big like the other 'big 4', back in like 2010 or so when the singer of Gruntruck died I was luck enough to get into his benefit show I think it was on Capital Hill at a bar that had 2 floors, all kinds of Gruntruck stuff around and Gruntruck on every TV.. I could be off on the year too but close to that. Here is a cool documentary on them ua-cam.com/video/JY42mEYxD0Ih/v-deo.htmlttps://ua-cam.com/video/JY42mEYxD0I/v-deo.html
Legend!!!!
That drummer has lights coming out of his butt.
Tommy Fucking Niemeyer !
One of Washington's greatest Les Paul slingers, great guitarist.
I have some of his earliest work from the Accused floating around somewhere !
Great freAKING band! 🔥
Sadly Ben looked like his diabetes was getting the best of him in this video. RIP you and your bands music is sorely missed💔
Hi Jerry,
Ben wasn't diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) until 1998, the onset of which was caused by his alcoholism. I think his state/appearance here is merely a result of his hard-partying lifestyle and his alcohol abuse. My sources for this information were Jack Endino (Skin Yard Guitarist) and Daniel House (Skin Yard Bassist.)
@@ceedromadrigal7165 he could've had it prior to 98 and not have really known it. Diabetes comes like a train
Take me back to 1993....
I miss the 90s it’s era lows SO hard
Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots' fathers ? Haha love it
The vocalist is like layne Staley
Gotta love the 90's!
Saw them with Green Apple Quickstep and Sister Psychic
YES!!
Songs dope
These guys were better than Soundgarden or Nirvana. The best bands never got rich and famous.
This was a great band very under rated. Their down fall was being lumped into the grunge shit. They should have made it big.
David moeller well they were from Seattle and at the time for some reason if you U were from Seattle you were automatically grunge
It's true. Gruntruck is more underground than another bands (as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, AIC or Soundgarden... The big four in the grunge). The grunge fans knows that this band (and this clase of bands) is as important as the most populary grunge bands.
Their downfall was being stuck in a shit contract so it stopped them from recording new music, would see them play around town a lot after Push but they weren't recording.
@@Los_Barbituricos Alice In Chains isn't grunge, Soundgarden really isn't either.
@@paulhetrick1759 you're right, they're 2nd wave hardcore neoclassical sludge doom techno step
bom em
Com certeza
I always thought gruntruck and skin yard never got their do. They were one of the reasons grunge happened, shit skin yards guitar player is Jack endino
These guys kicked fucking ass!
Ben McMillan is an was fucking awesome.
Rest in Peace Ben
He was an absolute sweetheart.
Wonder if him and Layne were friends!? They have the same exact vibe :D
