So they definitely didn’t blow up the way everyone in the early ‘90s thought they would DESPITE the fact that Nirvana opened for them on several different occasions and never vice versa. My moms cousin(so my second cousin but we’ve always called her Aunt Mandy) was life partners with Ben McMillan, the front man of Gruntruck, up until when he died of health complications in 2008. Sooo though they never married, us kids called him Uncle Ben. Only sharing THESE unimportant details to explain how I know all the details behind their failure to rise to fame despite their wild popularity amongst most grunge fans in the early ‘90s. Everyone expected them to be almost as successful as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the other major names in grunge coming out of my beloved city at the time but, according to the storied Ben told me when I was a young teen, they had a real idiot of a manager and he totally screwed them out of signing the record deal that would have led to them blowing up and becoming world famous. But ya know, I actually recently found out an old VHS labeled “Ben on Headbanger’s Ball” and it was exactly that, a recording of Ben being interviewed on MTV’s old segment, Headbanger’s Ball, where they played metal music videos. They may not have reached they’re FULL potential as a band but
Heard this song playing in a CD/Record store in Tacoma. Walked up to the checkout counter and told the guy I would buy the Cd of what was playing. Would see these guys 3 times playing in Seattle. Awesome band!

I remember when I got off dope for the second time (I was a recovering heroin addict and relapsed on painkillers, speed and benzos), I would walk to the methadone clinic down the road every day for the first few months, and I would listen to AIC radio on an app (I think pandora tho I can’t remember), and this song would always end up on the playlist. I love Gruntruck now, that playlist helped me discover a lot more awesome bands.
Awesome video. Very 90's vibe, which, of course, is expected. First I heard of these guys was when a local covers band (late 90's) covered Tribe. I asked the singer what the song and band were. That's how out of tune I was with a lot of the local scene at that time, obviously. Then I saw Gruntruck around 1999 or 2000 when they reformed, when they played Sliders/Pounders pub in Renton, and it was a blazin' show. Always thought this band should have gone further than they did. A pal of mine saw them open for Nirvana at the Coliseum (probably '91 or '92?) and said Gruntruck stole the show -- they were that good.
They absolutely were. I saw them several times at various bars and clubs. Locally they were pretty big. Would have loved to have seen them at Hempfest or something. Somehow Super Sonic Soul Pimps were bigger - not hating on 3SP at all, but Gruntruck was better.
This is like industrial grunge, not sure anything like that ever existed, which makes their sound pretty unique among the grunge lot of Seattle. this is the best song i've heard from Gruntruk, i think they were lacking in the vocal writing department. that's not to say that Ben and the guys couldn't write lyrics. If you listen to their songs the lyrics are repetitive, in the way they sing the same opening bar later in most songs. But they are a tight band, they would've been worth going and seeing life that's for sure. R.I.P. Ben
They were sooo Tight Live and they Let me sit on stage next to bass cabinet and recover from one fun pit at a little Bar that is no Longer Named Colors..I seen them 4 times. They opened up for Alice Cooper And the Scorpions once at the Gorge in George Washington. That was the Last we ever seen of them too sadly..Seen um with Sea Weed and Alice in Chains..Grun-Truck was Formed from members of The Accused and Skin Yard. Grunge Rock at it finest.
True that it’s always what i thought it was a change from skin yard since in skin yard Ben sang so many different new verses and kept It interesting and non repetitive, Gruntruck was a whole different vibe and switch going towards a more simple metal vocals that almost every song repeats the verses, since i think he was playing rhythm guitar while singing he couldn’t do all the crazy singing like he did in skin yard

I found out about them thanks to Pantera. There was a story in Polish edition of Metal Hammer about Gruntruck supporting Pantera on a tour. That was long before internet was there. I immediately ran to buy a cassette and went like: "WHOAH, MOTHERFUCKER!". I loved them instantly. I did'nt even know Ben was dead... :(
@Lewi LES nah, he said it wrong as a lot of people did. The Shot EP even has trucks on the cover haha. Think they had to start incorporating trucks so people stopped mispronouncing lol
I can't make up my mind about this band. They had a hell of a Rhythm Section. Instrumental speaking, they were really tight and super talented. I don't really care much for the lyrics or the vocals though. I think it really took away from the talent of the players.

I was living in Seattle from 89/94 and this band was never huge, but i had the cassette and played the whole tape all the time. Killer! 👍✌

Used to cover this song in one of our teenage bands. In the middle of small town nowhere upstate NY. What a great album.
