Henry Rollins attempted to teach me this valuable life lesson in the 90s and I regret not taking it more seriously. A lot of heartache could've been avoided had I only listened the first time.
Yep i remember allright...especially also that other crazy clip low self opinion...i thought Rollins was one intimidating dude. that facial expression and that thick muscular neck...scary lol.
Anyone who has fallen victim to a narcissist has lived this song. Rollins captures the truth of the liar (the narcissist) perfectly. Get away and stay away. That's all I gotta say.

Isn't it strange, that classic narcissists have been found in many aspects of this World today, as well as in times past? Look at Religion, for example. Look at how many classic narcissists have been found in all of those different "Denominations", that use and threaten people like they have, throughout the ages. Lie to people about this and that, and actually threaten people with "Dire consequences ", if the people don't "Line up " with their bull, and their lies. A song about a narcissistic abuser 25 years before narcissistic-abuser became the pop psychology buzzword that it is today. Behold, Henry Rollins, the Renaissance man!
My list of relevant songs from that time period, runs like this - Henry Rollins Band: Liar and L. S. O. (Low Self Opinion). Pantera:Mouth For War, Broken, and Domination. Ministry:Just One Fix. Megadeth: Foreclosure Of A Dream. These are songs that I see as relevant, and that challenge me, as a person, to live better, and to live above the level that I was at...as well as being extremely careful, as to who I listen to, when it comes to my life choices. This song, "Liar", exposes certain "Authority figures", such as Law and Religion, for any of the mutual crud that they've spread around over their respective timelines. I believe in steering clear of "Religions" and different facets of "Law Enforcement", when the case arises, as to how certain "Law Enforcement Officers" break their own laws for any reason, and start treading on the rights and persons that they do, for any unreasonable needs and means that gratify only themselves. That's me, in a nutshell: Live the best life that I can, and helping others when needed.
This song is absolutely brilliant. I played this on my radio show for someone who had never heard it before and he was stunned. I love it how this song is totally in your face.

Kind of drives home the point that this person doesn’t even know why they’re lying. And, I think it represents that crippling insecurity at the core of the narcissistic profile. In this case…the desert is already there, but he’s built a curated, storybook facade of it that he thinks you’ll like better. It’s ridiculous since someone who likes a painting of the desert is obviously hoping it’s just a preview of the real thing. But he’ll never let anyone get that close. It’s not enough to be seen, he has to be seen as the best version you can imagine.
Great interpretation. I also think the desert represents the Narcissist/Sociopath person's barren wasteland and sickness of the soul. They wear their saintly masks (the superhero, the police officer and the nun) to con people, but they are always running away from the reality of that desert inside.
Far and Away his magnum opus. In this song he reflects almost to a fault, what a liar looks like, sounds like, and acts like, if you could only see it in all its awfulness. Well, he painfully and brilliantly shows all those things in this video. This one should have had a hundred million views.
Still blasting this song in 2019. **2020 still blasting this song ** **2022** Still bumping this shit through covid.... **2024** still blasting this, the doctors lied, still alive and going strong.

@@zofiajaneczek184 How old are you? Every "generation" has its stupidity. Most uninterested people, regardless of when they lived, just want to get along. Sometimes, like "Gen-X," there is a hope of frustration, a way above the status quo. I think Gen-X was pissed. They wanted change, they got stuck in-between their parent and grandparent baby-boomers and the later millennials. The middle class of that era was never truely "Gen-x" ... Neither were the descendants of the blue collar middle. The "Gen-X" is the first to see that they will not have a life better than their parents. Some will see success, with home ownership, personal wealth, etc. But many will not. Many fewer Gen-Y will see a similar vision of life success. Gen-X was the first to see the end of the American Dream. This is the very sort of song to show it. Sad, now, that it is even more politically relevant today than it was when it was new.
How did this guy not become a guidance councilor? TOM Berenger gave the best proformance ever. You smoke this shit to escape reality: I am reality".....
Beware folks. There are evil people out there hiding behind their masks, who will attempt to destroy your life if you dare to expose them. Once you’ve survived that, you truely understand what this song is about.
💯 Get out, go no contact if possible and don't seek revenge. They enjoy wrestling in the mud, so don't give them that satisfaction! People with no empathy are very dangerous.
With a true narcissist, EXPOSING THEM IS DANGEROUS. Once they see you as a threat , they destroy your credibility so you are not believed or shunned. it took a long time to discover people were avoiding me because they'd been warned I was a thief, liar and drug addict. It's not something people would tell me, I just got the cold shoulder and had weird accusations hurled at me. "I don't know what you're talking about" only makes them think I'm denying some wrongdoing they heard, not realizing it's a false accusation. I had just left a Narcissistic relationship after 16 years, I finally started to Google ' Why does he do this, why does he do that' and Narcissist came up every time, I had never met anyone like this before, I wasn't afraid of him, but he hurt my Soul so badly, when I found out what he was, I told him to watch his back, he was genuinely shocked, I was living in his house, but made plans to get out behind his back. He went to a Funeral and I left. I was so Trauma bonded to him, I went back 3 times to visit, to wean myself off him. The final time I left was just when Covid started, I still kept in Contact, but when my Son Died and he didn't give a Fuck, it Finally hit me !
This song came out just after I had met a pathological liar and he savaged my heart and listening to this song kind of helped me heal from it..Thank you Henry.
Rose Daddona you seem like a strong person, men or women there are no bad people, just those who allowed themselves to be corrupted by weakness, who than resort to bad behaviour, the fact that you share this with strangers shows you have the strength to portray vulnerability. That person did not corrupt you in any way.👍
I got stuck with a roommate who was always lying about everything to try and impress people.mostly trying to impress girls.he lied so much about himself I think he believed his own lies. The bass line, whoever wrote it is amazing. It blends and sharpens the guitar in the ugly chorus but separates and creates a new dimension in the verses, perfect. IT IS ALWAYS CHANGING Edit: I never asked, open appraisal of this performance and line is what I gave, the end.
[Verse 1] So you think you're gonna live your life alone In darkness and seclusion Yeah I know, you've been out there and tried to mix with those animals And it just left you full of humiliated confusion So you stagger back home and wait for nothing But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street And now you're desperate and in need of human contact And then you meet me and your whole world changes Because everything I say is everything you've ever wanted to hear So you drop all your defenses, and you drop all your fears And you trust me completely I'm perfect in every way 'Cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside You feel so lucky But your ego obscures reality and you never bother to wonder why things are going so well You wanna know why? [Chorus] 'Cause I'm a liar! Yeah, I'm a liar! I'll tear your mind out I'll burn your soul I'll turn you into me I'll turn you into me 'Cause I'm a liar, a liar A liar, a liar [Verse 2] I'll hide behind a smile And understanding eyes And I'll tell you things that you already know So you can say, "I really identify with you, so much" And all the time that you're needing me Is just the time that I'm bleeding you! Don't you get it yet?! I'll come to you like an affliction And I'll leave you like an addiction! You'll never forget me! You wanna know why?! [Chorus] 'Cause I'm a liar! Yeah, I'm a liar! I'll rip your mind out I'll burn your soul I'll turn you into me I'll turn you into me 'Cause I'm a liar, a liar A liar, a liar Liar, liar, liar, liar! [Bridge] I don't know why I feel the need to lie And cause you so much pain Maybe it's something inside Maybe it's something I can't explain 'Cause all I do Is mess you up and lie to you I'm a liar Oh, I am a liar [Verse 3] But if you'll give me just one more chance I swear that I will never lie to you again Because now I see the destructive power of a lie They're stronger than truth I can't believe I ever hurt you I swear I will never to you lie again, please Just give me one more chance I will never lie to you again No, I swear I will never tell a lie I will never tell a lie No, no Ha ha ha ha ha ha haa! Ho ho ho ho! Sucker! Sucker! Oh, sucker! I am a liar! Yeah, I am a liar! Yeah, I like it! I feel good! Ohh, I am a liar! Yeah I lie, I lie, I lie! Oh, I lie! Oh, I lie! I lie! Yeah Oh, I'm a liar! This IS how songs should be written. Its classic case of a simple idea executed with a genius touch. Musical style, Lyrics, the power of the delivery the musicianship. Its a hidden message, its a warning, its a wake up call. Heard so much about Mr Rollin's stuff but chose to ignore it. More fool me ;)
The longer time passes, the more genius every part of this becomes--both the song and the video. Had to play it this morning because it kept me up half last night, replaying it over and over in my head.
I just found this today. I've liked Henry Rollins for some time - he was kind of an enigma and it stuck to me in a good way and he was always - RAW. This is amazing I wish this song had come out in the 1960's maybe - just maybe lives would be different. hard lessons learned.
Henrique Araújo not really genius. This is a weak minded, weak soul who hides behind lies. So what he is telling the truth about lying. How about be strong enough and secure enough to tell it how it is... "the ugly truth is beautiful treason".

Well, he is a liar.......
I love it when he says I'll hide behind a smile and then he smiles just awesome.

I wish i hsd taken this song to heart when i heard it as a teen 😢😅
Far and Away his magnum opus. In this song he reflects almost to a fault, what a liar looks like, sounds like, and acts like, if you could only see it in all its awfulness. Well, he painfully and brilliantly shows all those things in this video. This one should have had a hundred million views.
you've nailed it. 4:05 and this should be meme :)
This song is painfully accurate.
ciao bella
It is girl....
For me: Best song of the 90s. Thank you Mr. Rollins.
Hey, The Lincoln Project! You should use some of this in an ad for George Santos and the Maga Congress
I think Henry is trying to say some people can't be trusted.
Fr??
Hehe
Hmmm. I think you're right.
Still blasting this song in 2019.
**2020 still blasting this song **
**2022** Still bumping this shit through covid....
**2024** still blasting this, the doctors lied, still alive and going strong.
Dam right
yes
FUCK YEAH
Again.
People still lying? People still listening XD
I sent this to my two daughters as a father's way of warning them, they both hated it and got scared, but years later they understood what I was showing them, they both hid abusive relationships....one boyfriend is dead and the other gone
Humanity explained
The most honest song ever written
Touché.
Most Gen-X songs had some kind of meaning and truth to them. This is no exception.
Slim Whitman most TRUTH full honest song.....
@@zofiajaneczek184
How old are you?
He lies about lying.
Disney tought me about love, Henry reminded me how the universe really works......
Watching Disney is where you wentbwrong.
Disney taught you about limerence. Love is work, takes time to evolve, and not a physical sensation you fall into.
I remember this from from forever ago & never till now watched it agian. I sure get it now. Henry Rollins nailed it like no one else!!
"...and you never ask why?...YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?"
How did this guy not become a guidance councilor? TOM Berenger gave the best proformance ever. You smoke this shit to escape reality: I am reality".....
Or a politician
He decided to be everything else lol you know how much Henry Rollins has done?
he's the perfect guidance councilor!!!!!
jessica bremer BoyYouNailedIt
I wish I had a guidance counselor as fuckin awesome as Henry Rollins. I definitely wouldn't have been a little bitch In my teen years
Beware folks. There are evil people out there hiding behind their masks, who will attempt to destroy your life if you dare to expose them. Once you’ve survived that, you truely understand what this song is about.
Read your comment again. So true brother, so true. Smh.......
💯 Get out, go no contact if possible and don't seek revenge. They enjoy wrestling in the mud, so don't give them that satisfaction! People with no empathy are very dangerous.
This song speaks of what happens before the exposing but I'm sure it would continue after the exposing.
ONLY EXPOSE LIES WITH PHOTOS,TEXTS AND EMAILS AS PROOF Hesaid/she said is a losing game when played with a lying egomaniac with ulterior motives. @@saynotohookups
This Video ist timeless. In short words he explains human Hybris (Duality by Jung).
As a Teenager at this time IT blew me away.
As a child and adult survivor of a narcissistic relationship this song is absolutely accurate and describes the nature of a narcissist perfectly, if you are not sure and watch this please believe every word in this song and every gesture and move. It actually triggers me it is so accurate
My demon mother and demon siblings are narcissists- CHILLINGLY ACCURATE 😱😱😱
1000000% Henry described my past relationships to a T
Same. My mother, my ex, and soon to be ex.
This is not higher quality. Liar!!
hhhehhh :) Nice comment, mate...
I giggled a bit, there.
Hahaha hahaha. Someone is a liar!
Ehehehe
It was 2013... when this video was made... LIAR!!
ICON FOREVER
Thank you for everything
Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸
2023 and this songs still gets better at every listen. 👹
This song came out just after I had met a pathological liar and he savaged my heart and listening to this song kind of helped me heal from it..Thank you Henry.
Are you overweight? Just curious?
Rose Daddona you seem like a strong person, men or women there are no bad people, just those who allowed themselves to be corrupted by weakness, who than resort to bad behaviour, the fact that you share this with strangers shows you have the strength to portray vulnerability. That person did not corrupt you in any way.👍
Good for you, Rose. As a pathological liar, I can tell that Henry had nailed it.
I understand how you feel. 😉
I got stuck with a roommate who was always lying about everything to try and impress people.mostly trying to impress girls.he lied so much about himself I think he believed his own lies. The first day the old landlady met him,she said she thought he was a bragged. (Constantly bragging himself) after a while I realized he lied so much that something was literally mentally wrong with him.I seen his phone bill where he called a girl who was obviously avoiding him at exactly every 10 minutes for like 6 hrs nonstop.his lying would get him laid until girls realized he constantly lied. Last I knew he was a used car salesman:(lol go figure)
Henry in his prime. Dude was a beast
Straight from the wwf
This song and video never gets old ... LOVE it!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I saw him in concert in Denver a long time ago. Wow. I swear he was singing just to me. Amazing performer.
The Narcissist Anthem 🙌🏻🤬
This was ahead of its time.... love Rollins👌🏻😝
Julia K no way, this is just basic human nature, since we hung out in trees🐵🐵🐵🐵🐵
actually no. This is song about Henry himself and how he is trying to adapt to the society with all his aggressiveness, cynical mind, sociopathic hate . He is just wearing masks to deal with it, but the same time he hates it. You understand it when you read his autobiographical book 'IRON'
Everyone is talking about the meaning of this song, but no one is saying anything about how hilarious his expressions are in this. They are the best! Like when he is a cop, Superman, or when he says I’ll hide behind a smile.
I crack up every time he launches into the last chorus with that laugh
He is also finally a really good actor, a Talent in every way.. love to watch Him performing, and this Song is in any ways a masterpiece and many others of Henry Rollins
I love the cop 😂👍
@LittleLulubee what about superman wagging his finger?
@ERin Moline Noice! I actually never noticed that! Thanks for spotting that out to me!
The narcissist's anthem.
Yes !!! The best to show people when trying to explain NPD.
Ummm a narcissist would never admit to being deceptive.
What amazes me is how you even captured the initial grooming, progression, anioulations. Fake apologies etc...all of it....
The bass line, whoever wrote it is amazing. It blends and sharpens the guitar in the ugly chorus but separates and creates a new dimension in the verses, perfect.
IT IS ALWAYS CHANGING
Edit: I never asked, open appraisal of this performance and line is what I gave, the end.
Melvin Gibbs.
It goes well
Pretty sure it was the bass player, Melvin Gibbs. 🤣👍🏻
dude, you noticed!
Absolutely Melvin Gibbs.
Fist can we all appreciate the absolute brilliance in this song, also the fact he’s dressed as a cop is surprisingly relevant....
He should have dressed as a Democrat...
@@HardRockMaster7577 So exactly how a republican dresses? Politicians are all liars genius
Indeed we should fist it
Omg thanks for this post. My son just called me a liar and all of a sudden this song came back to me! Now I'm making him listen to it! 😂😂😂
That’s a good mom. 🤘🏼

Spotify Hello !? This is a classic! Hard to take you seriously as a streaming provider without this!
They had it on there forever then the whole album got taken down
[Verse 1]
So you think you're gonna live your life alone
In darkness and seclusion
Yeah I know, you've been out there and tried to mix with those animals
And it just left you full of humiliated confusion
So you stagger back home and wait for nothing
But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
And now you're desperate and in need of human contact
And then you meet me and your whole world changes
Because everything I say is everything you've ever wanted to hear
So you drop all your defenses, and you drop all your fears
And you trust me completely
I'm perfect in every way
'Cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
You feel so lucky
But your ego obscures reality and you never bother to wonder why things are going so well
You wanna know why?
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm a liar!
Yeah, I'm a liar!
I'll tear your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
'Cause I'm a liar, a liar
A liar, a liar
[Verse 2]
I'll hide behind a smile
And understanding eyes
And I'll tell you things that you already know
So you can say, "I really identify with you, so much"
And all the time that you're needing me
Is just the time that I'm bleeding you!
Don't you get it yet?!
I'll come to you like an affliction
And I'll leave you like an addiction!
You'll never forget me!
You wanna know why?!
[Chorus]
'Cause I'm a liar!
Yeah, I'm a liar!
I'll rip your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
'Cause I'm a liar, a liar
A liar, a liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar!
[Bridge]
I don't know why I feel the need to lie
And cause you so much pain
Maybe it's something inside
Maybe it's something I can't explain
'Cause all I do
Is mess you up and lie to you
I'm a liar
Oh, I am a liar
[Verse 3]
But if you'll give me just one more chance
I swear that I will never lie to you again
Because now I see the destructive power of a lie
They're stronger than truth
I can't believe I ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
Just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
No, I swear
I will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
No, no
Ha ha ha ha ha ha haa!
Ho ho ho ho!
Sucker!
Sucker!
Oh, sucker!
I am a liar!
Yeah, I am a liar!
Yeah, I like it! I feel good!
Ohh, I am a liar!
Yeah
I lie, I lie, I lie!
Oh, I lie!
Oh, I lie! I lie!
Yeah
Oh, I'm a liar! I lie!
Yeah, I like it! I feel good!
I'll lie again
And again
I'll lie again and again
And I'll keep lying!
I promise!
Not even counting those around us, we can always guarantee this song applies to any politician, judge, lawyer, celebrity, and pretty much all those we are taught early on to respect and admire...except Henry Rollins, of course! 👍🏾
Such a great video and acted so well. I get the feeling Henry is high in narcissistic traits himself so found this easy to perform. Honest of him.
This is my local weather man. Every day
Because he always lies about the weather or because he goes berserk every morning?
They work indoors. There's no incentive to actually get it right. Sometimes... I wish they would outsource weather reports to farmers - they're much more attuned, as the wrong call is make or break to them.
PapaWheelie They should play this in the background of the local Philly weather; no doubt.
Lol
🤣🤣🤣
This is one of the most metal songs ever. So heavy in truth
Best description of a narcissistic abuser hands down! Narcissistic abuse is not new. It's been going on for a while now.
The devil is a liar, this is absolutely genius!!! God bless!!! LoL 😂

Liar, Lawyer mirrow show me what's the difference!
I regret I discovered this song only 6 months after breaking up with a narc that had exactly the same mimics as this Artist in this video (especially the scowling) and got me hooked in the exact same way... but now it's breaking my trauma bond. Thank you.
Glad you got free. I did too after therapy

@@Edwebslinger Webster 👋
Man i freaking love this dude
its amazing how in real life Henry is so calm and shy, but the moment hes on stage, dude is an animal
More fool me ;)
He said "it wrote itself in t minutes.". Thata badass, instead of overthinking suff.
It is a warning, it is a wake up call. The message is not especially well hidden, though.
I love the lyrics but the dissonant music isn't pleasant
“Hidden message”? It’s pretty blatant and hard to miss.
Contrast this to a Def Leppard vapid music video for the mindless rubes.
/thumbs up/
This so great not leaving a thumbs up is leaving a thumbs up.
HOW TO MAKE AN ENTERTAINING MUSIC VIDEO: keep the camera on Henry Rollins and let him do whatever.
Androcles1983 truest statement ever. The dudes a fucking genius
I'm so sad this hasn't been on Spotify for such a long time

It was about eight years ago. I remember saving it to my master playlist after hearing this song on MTV Classic.
I loved this song 20 years ago and now... What can I say? You know what's going on. Henry is awesome
This man was ahead of his time! This song is the truth even if the song title is not!👍🏾
The best thing about the lyrics is that he spends the whole song telling the truth.. he confesses to be a liar and that's true....
Pure genious!!
Henrique Araújo not really genius. This is a weak minded, weak soul who hides behind lies. So what he is telling the truth about lying. How about be strong enough and secure enough to tell it how it is... "the ugly truth is beautiful treason".
I'm telling a lie bc when I say I'm a lying I'm actually telling the truth
My ex showed me this video...lolol.. I just realized that it was exactly what he is.
I mean he ends with a truth. He will keep lying, he promises.

This song was written 26 years ago, but it has never been more current than today, where honesty is increasingly scarce!
