Dave Case's (the bassist since 2010) brother actually bought my childhood home back in NY right around the time he joined the band. It was really cool actually because I got to meet Dave, the house was in shortsale sadly but after my family moved out I stayed in the house for a few months while all the paperwork got done to take care of it. One day Dave and his brother dropped by to check on things and I was jamming in the garage (I play drums) with my buddy, we offered him to jam but they had more stuff to do. Got invited to their show at the Crazy Donkey though which was fucking siiiiiiiick.
Quicksand, Helmet and Handsome were the reasons I moved to the NE to work in the music industry. Their music blows me away now as much as it did 25 years ago. Never gets old
Probably one of my favourite songs of all time. Helmet have always been one of my favourite bands. Page Hamilton in my eyes is a genius. Only saw them once, in Osaka, Japan. Helmet is like you took all the at-that-time-relevant rock/metal genres and extracted the best things out of each and put those in a melting pot Never heard anything like them and I’m absolutely hooked for how excellently they blended a sort of industrial suite with grunge-ish post hardcore sound. And it’s not their attire that draws attention
Love Helmet. Always thought of them as if Fugazi ever got really heavy - that drumsound, that fuzzed-out riffage and bass, those either laconic or harsh screamed vocals. These guys, and Quicksand, and Unsane, were doing the heavy post-hardcore thing and doing it well in the 90s.
I don't see that connection at all but someone else said Snapcase and that's f'ing spot on. Check out their Looking Glass Swlf album (however you spell it).

My son's (10 y.o.) favorite band is Deep Purple, and tho they're not my favorite band, they are in my top 10. He's memorized the song order and tracks from 'Deepest Purple', and I couldn't be prouder. Recently, he heard Helmet for the first time and FREAKED OUT. When he went on a school trip a few weeks ago, the adults asked for music request for the long drive, and my son told me he requested 'Unsung', which even the friggin' adults didn't know. They found it on their phones, and were stunned that a 10 y.o. boy knew a specific song from 1992 that kicked SO MUCH ass. THAT'S MY BOY!!!!!
My daughter is 8 years old today. Her favorite band is Megadeth, favorite song is Holy Wars. Music taste I think is largely inherited. Her friends don't even know who Megadeth or even Korn are. Cool kid.
+Kuraiyo yeah, you are right, their songs are good but you ever seen Slipknot? the first thing you say when you see them for the first time is that they are psychopathic killers..
I think a gimmick is great for live stuff but it's not necessary. Likes of Slipknot, Tool, Rammstein etc put on a great show that goes well with their music where bands like Gojira or Korn etc. put on less of a visual performance but they're extremely tight live you can just stand there in awe in between head banging.
Actually the 90's (and late 80's) were all about image. That's why Helmet and this video were so revolutionary when it came out back in '92. I remember watching it on mtv back in high school and it blew me away. peace out!

Helmet are great for being a "wow, these guys sound like absolute MONSTERS" and then you see a band pic and it looks like the Yale tennis team.
They look like a boy group but rock like Satan.
I remember them being labeled "preppy rock" at one time.
Helmet, Quicksand, Hum and Failure all fall under the category of "Guys who look like they deliver pizzas but play heavy music"
Love it. That's a great comment, lol.
they actually sound too soft for a rock band.
Nobody writes vocal melodies like Page Hamilton. That's one reason I adore Helmet the way I do.
They rock and always will Dora!!!
Deftones too
J Robbins from Jawbox
@@chrisdrumz7 Definitely.
I was literally just thinking about posting how I love his vocals...
A great example of how a baritone can sing in rock/metal effectively and without screaming or growling!!
I saw these guys open for Faith No More in 92 and they did not disappoint
Saw them with Rollins Band and Sausage at the Roseland in NYC in..guess it was 95...they're awesome live. And I just realized that was 30 effing years ago...
EDIT: Just looked, it was August of 94.
When you rent out Trent Reznor's basement for a music video.
Hahahahahaha
The Set kinda reminds me Of the set
that Primus for the Mr Krinkle video
@@samuelwetz8378 if I remember correctly, I think Primus and Helmet were signed to the same label at the time, so it probably the same warehouse from the Mr Krinkle video
I believed this video popularized the trope of "band playing in an abandoned warehouse"

(Lyrics)
Your contribution left unnoticed some
Association with an image
Just credit time for showing up again
Attention wandered I’m left with it
Gone by sin too slowly
Can’t pass it up
Then I thought nothing is right
I turned it off
To die unsung would really bring you
Although wet eyes would never suit you
Walk through no archetypal suicide to
Die young is far too boring these days
Your will to speak clearly
Exposed too much
Unsung once too often
Could not rub off
Thanks.
Thank you. You’re doing the lords work
Bless 🤘❤
Merci
2020 who is still listening?
Binge watching old 90's songs, figured it was a good way to start the new decade.
May play this song at a gig in 2 weeks
You wasted no time, I see.
This song popped into my head a couple times lately, even though I haven't heard it since the 90's.
Im glad we aren’t alone
This song will be played atleast once a year for the rest of my life!. I'll keep this jam alive for the rest to hear this masterpiece!
John Stainer still killing the drums in 2022. One of the most underrated of all time.
Thank you. I didn't know his name.
* Stanier
Yup, he's a beast.
Stanier
If you didnt repeatedly watch Beavis & Butthead re-runs in vain hope that you might get to hear/see this song one more time, you've never lived.
Omg! YES!!!😄
Pre-internet people are a different species.
@@garki1369 God Bless you for that .
still sounds fresh three decades later
Radio x the best GTA radio 🤘
Yes
V-Rock and K-DST are good as well
Man I was 17 and in my senior year in HS. What a time in music!!!! Glad to be a part of that Fd Generation of X'rs!
🤟🏻
Saw 'em live, they opened for Ministry in '92. Good times.
I saw them open for Manson in 97 and got harassed by religious nuts! I told them I was there for Helmet ⛑!!!
I saw that tour. They were with ministry and sepultura
me either.
90's music was just 🔥🔥🔥 for everyone. Did NOT disappoint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2:50 I love that shot of the guitarist and drummer playing side by side.
yeah it does look really cool
Dave Case's (the bassist since 2010) brother actually bought my childhood home back in NY right around the time he joined the band. It was really cool actually because I got to meet Dave, the house was in shortsale sadly but after my family moved out I stayed in the house for a few months while all the paperwork got done to take care of it. One day Dave and his brother dropped by to check on things and I was jamming in the garage (I play drums) with my buddy, we offered him to jam but they had more stuff to do. Got invited to their show at the Crazy Donkey though which was fucking siiiiiiiick.
Seriously the final two minutes or so is like a heavy metal orchestra fucking goddamn holy shit!!!!!!
I just turned 290 years old and this song is in my top 50 songs.
Quicksand, Helmet and Handsome were the reasons I moved to the NE to work in the music industry. Their music blows me away now as much as it did 25 years ago. Never gets old
How'd that turn out for you?
Too much of a pussy to handle the D bags in the industry. Moved back to Austin and I work with animals now.
Who are Handsome?
One of the best songs of the Era
The 90's was a great era for rock (and rap too, rip Phife)
Fuck rap
+Jack Wrigley woah, you might wanna slow down there, that's really edgy
Dogald Trump I'm not gonna listen to a republican who knows shit all about politics (as opposed to one that does know?)
Jack Wrigley
Do you listen to U2, you seem like a really big fan of the edge
Dogald Trump Fuck U2
Can't believe this is now Old Timers Rock!!
Damn, I kinda forgot about this song as if it's hidden in the fucking basement ... I miss the 90s ... '95 was a great year ...
Probably one of my favourite songs of all time. Helmet have always been one of my favourite bands. Page Hamilton in my eyes is a genius. Only saw them once, in Osaka, Japan. I met all the guys outside the venue. Got heaps of pictures and a personalised signature from Page. This was in the late 90's. One of my wmost treasured memories
Meantime was such a dope album. Loved all the songs
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Man reminds me of skipping 9th grade smoking blunts and skateboarding. the good old days!!!
Lol 9th grade. I waited til I got my grade 10 before doing that stuff
@@TexicanMr LOL... they definitely were... maybe not blunt wraps but peoples been splitting cigars for time dude
@@TexicanMr sorry man didn't mean to be rude lol, I'm honesty not even sure myself really, I heard Snoop said that too and I know smokin weed phillies etc originated in new York and snoop was westcoast and only popping off big time in 92 or 93 so he probably wasn't really on the east coast or had much to do with them at that point, so by the time Bushwick bill showed him that they'd obvious been doing it a little while before 92 on the east coast, loads of east coast emcees talk about it in their rhymes, wu tang etc. And this track was released in 92 right? I dunno, all guess work lol, that's just my take on it. Peace bro
We must have lived each other's lives
Exactly
Driving a tahoma with the nitro about to burst on the highway with five stars and three grandmothers with 9mm listening to this back in 2004. Good shit
😂🤠😎
Helmet is like you took all the at-that-time-relevant rock/metal genres and extracted the best things out of each and put those in a melting pot
Never heard anything like them and I’m absolutely hooked for how excellently they blended a sort of industrial suite with grunge-ish post hardcore sound. And it’s not their attire that draws attention
Yes!!! You said it so well! I'm still leaning into this albulm so many years later for my get up and get to to it mode!
Check out their Looking Glass Swlf album (however you spell it).
freaked me out when i learned i was friends with the drummer in high school. hey, jon. you were right, i can tell people i knew you before you were famous!
@the walkin dude my manager knows the lead singer of Floor and Torche. How sick is that??
He's now in a band called Battles, and they're making some really cool music
I once made out with Liz Phair after a show. I didn't get in her pants though and never saw or heard from her again. Still have the phone number she gave me but I never called it.
You should try calling it now, someone has to have that same number somewhere
I once worked with a guy who knew Vinny Paul and Dime when he was younger... Yeah, I made him prove it.
Anyone 2024 ???
Yeah bro, twice throughout this year
Hello!
ooh yeah
HERE!
Here still banging
That's why the nineties were so fantastic to be a youngster
Buying this album when it came out brought me here. Such an amazing and underrated band!
Same. Betty was my best all time for quite some times.
Radio X
Yesssssssss
Yup. Still listening. Learning this on Bass
Who else is listening to this while they are quarantined
italian anon .?
hell yeah
Present..... I'm playing it now 🤗🤗
Of course
its in my Industrial, Metal, and badass shit playlist
I remember listening to this album on cassette rolling around in my '74 Caprice getting high when I was in high school
haha, fucking dead on! cept i had a 74 chevelle. wow.
Once thing's for sure, the 90's set the standard for music, especially like '91 to '96 or so
I had a white 77 Impala. I too got high driving around listening to this and SoundGarden
First day of high school driver's ed I had this cassette tape on repeat in my Walkman, like a couple weeks after release. The guy next to me thought it was pretty cool, and maybe that I was cool too. I will never forget that moment. Still such a classic.. will never forget those days when music still existed in pure form.. RIP
The dead not forgotten, but celebrated and remembered as not to forget the beauty of what once was
This hits harder today than it did in 1993. What a classic!!
Cruising top speed from Los Santos to San fierro and the wrong side of the freeway blasting this. Good times
Radio-X
My guy! Yess! Get those stars blinkin yo!
Cool story, bro
You raised that boy right ...you should be proud
Sounds like my 10 yr old lol
My daughter is 8 years old today. Her favorite band is Megadeth, favorite song is Holy Wars. Music taste I think is largely inherited. Her friends don't even know who Megadeth or even Korn are. Cool kid.
Arthur Bishop i wanna be friends with him my man!
This song and video are a 10....the outtro is so fing rocking
Proof that you can dress normally and rock hard.
That's what I Love about the 90s. It was all about the music and less about the image when it came to rock bands.
+Kuraiyo yeah, you are right, their songs are good but you ever seen Slipknot? the first thing you say when you see them for the first time is that they are psychopathic killers..
I think a gimmick is great for live stuff but it's not necessary. Likes of Slipknot, Tool, Rammstein etc put on a great show that goes well with their music where bands like Gojira or Korn etc. put on less of a visual performance but they're extremely tight live you can just stand there in awe in between head banging.
more like 13yo clowns.
Actually the 90's (and late 80's) were all about image. That's why Helmet and this video were so revolutionary when it came out back in '92. I remember watching it on mtv back in high school and it blew me away. peace out!
The rhythm section on this song is superb! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
1992.....2020....And I'm still listening.
I've still got my cd from 92 🤘
I saw them last night. One of the best shows I've ever seen!!!! And he still has that guitar (although a bit scuffed up)!!!
