- How to clean grease and tobacco off of a kitchen ceiling and what to use to clean different levels of grease and grime from a kitchen ceiling. I mixed the Simple Green 1:1 with water. I mentioned in the video that I used Husky 901, however, it is an industrial cleaning product and as such, it is very difficult to find. It is sold through commercial janitorial distributors. It can be found online but not readily. For this reason, I recommend that you use Simple Green (link below) or any other degreaser that you can find.

What about popcorn ceilings what’s your advice I use cast iron a lot to cook .
Hi! my ceiling looks black from the grease and accumulating dust. What chemical solution should I use please? Thank you in advance!
Holy cow. Thank you so much’
Thank you, you're awesome
Thank you!
Thnx for the tips. You definitely made things easier for me
You’re welcome. Glad I could help
Omg thnk u soo much!! My ceiling in my kitchen above the stove is ugh now u have made my day!!.
What can i use for white tiles also in the kitchen which houses 2 dogs (1 big and 1 medium sized) tht love to be outside and bring dirt in the home
You're welcome! There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding what to use on tile. I have a playlist all about keeping tile and grout clean that you can check out.
If you have struggled to clean and keep clean the tops of kitchen cabinets that are open on top - a poor decorative design but it is what it is. Once clean, I lay down bar cloths which are the perfect size to cover this, usually rough area. Next time I clean my cabinets I just remove the cloths and launder them. Then I just have to clean any exposed edges. Most cabinets like these have some sort of moulding such as cove or spindles which clean up easily but hide the cloths on top of the cabinets. I have this type of cabinetry in the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms. Must have been all the rage back in the 80's! BTW, I purchase used cloths for this purpose. No way am I paying new price for essentially dirt grabbers that can sit there for months.
That's a good idea. I moved mine all the way up to the ceiling partly for that reason but towels would have been a lot easier.
I've also used a layer of wax paper. Just peel and toss
@@katherinewilson5972 Newspaper too, no one sees it! LOL
I have a soot like streaking affect when I wash walls. What can I use that I don’t end up with streaking and don’t have to repaint walls?
Had the same, go over it again Im afraid.. Sometimes a coat of paint with a roller is easier!!
Can you use a flat mop and sugar soap to clean yellow nicotine stains and dirt cos am doing 3 ceilings on Monday that need cleaned first before painting
I don't see why not
Amazon doesn't carry the Husky 901 degreaser. Where can this be purchased?
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro Thank you for the help.
Hello. Husky 901 is not available in any stores around me. Is it hazardous? Is there any similar brand to clean a very greasy ceiling. Ty.

I found it online
Hey I need some help with a thing I did like 5mins ago. So I opened o Coca Cola bottle that was in a freezer for a good long while. And of course it was solid. So I opened it thinking it was going to be just frozen Coca Cola but then it exploded a 10 foot plus explosion and got onto the ceiling. Please help
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro sorry I replied late. So I tried before hand to just wipe it with and without soapy water and all it just did was spread it around?
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro my ceiling is IS painted but when I had my house built, I don’t think they put any type of gloss protection on it so. I guess I will have to head to the hardware store and try to find a solution. Thanks
what about safety glasses to keep chemicals out of the eyes??
What if you have popcorn ceiling? How do you clean it if when you rub, everything falls off?
You can't rub acoustic ceiling texture. If anything, you want to gently dab it. But I'm not sure it can be cleaned. It might be best to either scrape it off or paint it.
what ratio is the simple green to water did you use?
1:1
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro Thanks!
What if u have stipled ceilings
Is that safe for woods too?
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro thank you. I was just wondering. I got some grease on the top of my cabinet too from cooking
How did you apply the chemical on the ceiling exactly?
I sprayed it on.
How much TSP per gallon?
Where can one buy the husky 901??
Janitorial/industrial cleaning supply stores
Is "scrubbing bubbles" Ok to use?
Probably. It’s a glycol ether so it should cut through grease as efficiently as it damages your lungs and other organs
have you tried scrubbing bubbles
Not on a ceiling. Does it work?
What can I use for my greasy kitchen walls that were never painted. I moved in when I had my house built in 2005 and have never painted my walls. I want to paint my kitchen but have a lot of grease from cooking on the ceiling.
Healthy Clean Carpet & Tile Care Thank you!!
And what about ceiling
I need you in court for me and my team
Husky 901? Where can I get this? Home Depot?
And when I looked it up, I found 900, 901, 903, 910 etc. Do they all do the same good job? I don’t have cigarette smoke but I have candle soot and grease from cooking
They all have slightly different applications but for soot and grease in a residential kitchen they would probably all work well
Did you mix anything in with the tsp? Water?
Just water and TSP
Which proportion of TSP to water?@@HowToCleanLikeAPro
Doesnt it take.the paint off? Is there a way we can prevent it instead of cleaning it later?
It might take the paint off if the paint is compromised. I suppose you could just not cook in your kitchen and that would prevent it from getting dirty.
Get an fan that exhaust out of the house above the stove.
Still think you have to primer and paint in most cases. Thinking a sponge mop may be better.
If the paint is in good condition and it comes clean, why would you bother priming and painting?
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro because nicotine gets deep into your porous Drywall
It will come back. At least the cigarette smell will. You have to block it out.
It would probably speed up the process but regardless of that, your deltoids muscles will get burned out quickly from constantly holding your arms above your head for hours.
How do you clean ceiling that's been painted with FLAT (zero sheen) acrylic paint without permanently staining the ceiling?
I'm not sure that you can
Dear @magno, If your flat acrylic ceiling paint is not super greasy, for a few bucks you can try cleaning a remote corner using a vulcanized rubber sponge, also know as a Soot Sponge, Soot Eraser, etc. If you are going to do a whole ceiling you will need several sponges. If your ceiling is too smeary for that to work, you could try a pro drysteam/vacuum extractor service but that might cost several hundred bucks, and still leave ugly marks. It costs nothing to ask them if they do flat finish paint/ceilings. If the soot eraser sponge or steam doesn't work 100% - the least costly option might be to degrease as per this video, and see how it looks. 99.999% likely it will look awful, but it will now be clean enough to repaint.😃Yay! If so, just repaint with satin or high gloss. But please don't just paint over the filth, or 6 months later you'll be sorry when it starts peeling. Then you have peeling paint on top of greasy paint. At that point it's probably cheaper/easier just to replace the sheetrock ceiling, and start over. And never use flat finish paint again.😉 Good Luck! Tom.
Flat finish "paint" is pretty much just a heavily tinted primer.🙄 Maybe you could call it a cheap base coat for a more expensive semi-gloss (or high gloss) PAINT that you can actually scrub clean occasionally, but that's it. Otherwise, try to resist the *temptation* to call it "paint." That's how you know it's made by the devil😈and endorsed by satan himself. So if you value your soul, just... don't.🤬
@@tomtroszak I've degreased it with sugar soap, and it worked extremely well. Unfortunately, I had to touch up the paint. Luckily, with Zinsser BIN + sanding + the same self-leveling acrylic flat paint (2 coats) + microfibre roller, the touch up paint blended in 100% with the rest of the ceiling!! I honestly cannot tell with my eye that there's a patch of touch up paint. I couldn't have wished for a better outcome!
Also, repainting the whole ceiling would've been much worse especially with reflective paint like satin or high gloss because my kitchen, living, and dining area are in the same space. So, that could have been a BIG blurry mirror with satin or high gloss paint!
@@magno5157 Wow! Cool!😃What the heck is sugar soap?🤔 Maybe the reason I hate flat paint so much is because I never heard of this stuff before?🤔 Nah, it's still evil.😂 But if you have much flat ceiling in view, and only one lil place to patch, of course it makes sense to just try to degrease locally and patch it with the same (Evil Product of Doom). Also, what brand of evil doom did you use? Maybe it's less evil now, and only partly doomy?😇 Hmmm...Washable flat paint😲 What will they think of next?🧐
Did he mix husky 901 with simple green???
Definitely not
The colors in that kitchen tho 🤢. Super helpful video though. Very informative. Thank you! 😊
Glad you found it helpful
Simple green is a product I can use with an easy Conscience
Nice haiku
That’s a lot of time working hand over head Dude!!!!
Healthy Clean Carpet & Tile Care love the honesty!👍
Put some gloves on bro. Constant exposure to cleaning chemicals is not going to end well.
My ceiling is plastered and I don't think your detergent would work
Only one way to find out...
Not for me. As I am 84 a fall could break a hip. Not that I'm frightened it is more serious at my age. Maybe if someone else was there to steady the wobbles??
I have used simple green and it didn't work for me. Even used it straight and let it set.
Whether a cleaner works or not depends on a lot of factors including the condition of the surface you're trying to clean and the substance you're trying to remove.
I really like this video and am trying to read the comments but for some reason your comment replies aren't visible. :(
Hmm 🤔 that’s odd
+1 I have same problem
Was this channel renamed at some point?
Yes it was
What to clean an infestation of fruit flies on the ceilings when they are gone
Toxic! do you have any non-toxic options?
I’m not overly concerned with toxic vs. non-toxic cleaning products because the chemical industry is not required to disclose what they put in their products. They can put just about anything they want in a bottle and call it non-toxic so you really don’t know what you’re getting. Simple Green has been selling butyl for decades and calling it environmentally responsible. In my experience the legit non-toxic cleaners are only good for wiping down counters and cleaning up spills. When you need to cut through thick build ups of grease and grime sometimes you just have to go with tried and true cleaners that work fast. The faster they work the faster you can be done using them and reduce your exposure. This isn’t the answer that you wanted but I think everyone needs to know that they can’t trust the labels on their cleaning supplies.
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro I appreciate you sharing this but I was told that vinegar water and non-scented dish soap take off a lot of greasy surfaces. Bioclean makes a non-toxic product, as well as seventh generation. Hydrogen peroxide is also 😊👍
Bioclean and Seventh generation may well make nontoxic products but again they’re not required to tell you what is in their products so you just have to trust that their marketing team is being honest. Dish soap cuts through grease, that’s true, they use dawn to clean up birds after oil spills. I don’t know why everyone loves vinegar so much. It has no real cleaning value and adding it to an alkaline cleaner like dish soap is only going to diminish the efficacy of the dish soap. Hydrogen peroxide is a great stain remover but it’s not going to cut through grease on a kitchen ceiling.
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro I appreciate your help with this really do. I didn't realize that vinegar would cut back on the efficacy of the dish soap! how do you know this stuff? ☺️ What about an enzyme type product for removing a scent or maybe it's a plug-in air freshener I'm not sure? bioclean has one as well as nature's miracle.
@@HowToCleanLikeAPro also I think it's really terrible that Dawn advertises that they clean up oil spills with their soap. it's scented and it has some gross blue dye in it 🤢😞
This video is only relevant to people who live in USA, as we don't have any of those products here in UK!😂
True. Cleaning products are oddly regional. A vestige of the pre global economy.
Useless they Always show cleaning a Flat ceiling, never one with Artex heavy textured.
The principles are the same regardless of the ceiling’s topography
