Yes, yes, yes!!!! This totally worked!! What we thought was going to cost us a TON of money... was just 1/2 cup bleach and 1/2 cup water!! You are the best!!
I tried an easier solution but what you showed here of course is great too and does indeed work. I simply purchased a spray bottle of "Kaboom Mold and Mildew w/bleach" and because it is a foam, it just clings to the surface while drying. No mess. I sprayed the foam onto the ceiling and it stayed there while successfully attacking the ugly color spots. One application fixed most of my spots. Two applications knocks it all out. Just make sure that you have good ventilation in the room so that the Bleach doesn't knock you out!
@@thecatatemyhomework I had no issues with painted surfaces as my ceiling is indeed painted....but I understand your hesitancy. You can always test in an inconspicous spot first.
This worked for me!! Was making a grape fermented drink and when I opened it exploded all over my ceiling! Used a paper towel instead of sponge so the bleach doesn’t drip on my arm. Thank you so much!!
I had a brown water stain from a overrun tub right over my dining room table . I just want to say Thank you so much for the tutorial. The stain is now gone after 4 applications.
That Panhandle Humididity just makes the stain more pronounced (from a former Mobilian who "knows"). Great that the stain reduced...probably down to where Kills Original would cover it easily! Thnx
Thank you for the video. It worked on my ceiling. I started with an equal mix of bleach and water and then gradually used mostly bleach. I blotted the spots using paper towel. My ceiling now looks nice. My next project is to remove a few stains from a popcorn ceiling in a rental. Do you think it will work on the popcorn ceiling? Is there anything else I will have to be careful about?
Thanks for watching! Ceiling stains are one of those things you walk past in your house that you forget you have but everyone else sees them. I have another exciting ceiling video coming out soon... so stay tuned.
Would you also try to fix the leaks also, so that the stains don't come back again? I touch painted my ceiling, using a small paint brush, and the small bottles of paint (can get from Walmart in the art supplies section), and it blended in well with the rest of the ceiling paint. I did it about 2 yrs ago. But recently, the stain reappeared and now there's a new light rust color sold round stain. Before I do the paint job, again, I may want to have someone fix the leaking problem, so I don't have to do the touch painting job all over again. Is just blotting it with water and bleach going to prevent the stains from coming back again?
So I had stains all across my ceiling and wall in the corners dark stains tried using a mop tried scrubbing it none of it worth so I took your advice and try to using bleach in a spray bottle with water and within seconds the dark splotches disappeared now I just see drip marks running down my wall which shows me how dirty my wall really was so im about to spray my whole wall. I wish I had a before and after photo. Thank you.
Thanks for the video.. but I did have a good few laughs when you kept saying "the" first (the Facebook, the UA-cam) feels like home anyone else agree lol 😆?
Hurricane Matthew with 82 mph wind gusts (clocked 0.7 miles down river from my house) drove rain through a roof vent, which resulted in a 30" x 40" dark oval stain on my vanity popcorn ceiling. I applied undiluted 3% hydrogen peroxide four times to this stain to remove it. The advantages of 3% peroxide over bleach are no odor, no worries about drips harming carpets and no mixing. The disadvantage is that more applications may be required as it is weaker than bleach, although 12% and 34% peroxide solutions are available retail which would require dilution before application. A standard spray bottle works just fine.
I used a bleach water mixture roughly 1/3 bleach 2/3 water. Applied with a sponge 5 times lightly and although the stain has been reduced seems now have what looks to be a permanently wet spot that is slightly darker than the paint. Any suggestions ?
Are you saying that you can blot the stain with the mixture as many times as you like in one sitting and then let dry overnight? And if still showing, do more applications?
@TheRetirementality Cool actually started vanishing after first few applications. Had a guy come in and actually estimate a $600 paint job to my ceiling smh.
Great video, will this method only work with white ceilings? I have beige ceilings and I'm reluctant to try this. If I do use the 50/50 bleach/water, it will get the stain off, but will probably need to paint, right?
I got a ceiling water leak. The leak is fixed but I'm concerned if the water would cause more damage in the floor and wood, etc..? What's your thoughts?
I ran into the same issue trying to find one of those little spritzer bottles and was just about to use a spray bottle like the one you have. What happened? Did you try it and it didn't clean the stains?
Do you think that many brown spots is a sign of poor ventilation in the attic? In my opinion, this is something you do after you solved the root issue, e.g leak or poor ventilation. Otherwise you’re just masking a bigger problem that could lead to mold or mildew, which could be a lot worse than a 3 star review.
If this is a vacation rental why not paint the stained parts of the ceiling? The vent is filthy needs to be cleaned or switched out too! Giving honest opinion, probably wouldn't have to worry about bad reviews of your vacation property if it wasn't stained with brown leaks from above.
My water stains in my bedroom have the entire room stinky!!! Everyone is talking about removing and covering the stains. What about eliminating the SMELL??🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@TheRetirementality it's actually a downstairs mezzanine level apartment. They recently pressure washed the outside of the building. Stairs and all.. I wonder if water might have seeped in from that. I thought my bedroom carpet was smelling but after a few days, I noticed the ceiling stains... I notified the office for maintenance but they haven't come yet. I definitely can't sleep in my bedroom with that wet mildew smell..😖😖😖
TheRetirementality i was eating soup in the living room and realized i was gonna be late for my dmv appointment so i ran to the kitchen but i didnt close the sauce bottle all the way so it flipped off my tray and got all over the carpet and ceiling aswell apparently lol, i cleaned the carpet right away but i only noticed that sauce on the ceiling yesterday. luckily i was able to quickly cover up the stain by using a clorox wipe and drawing over it with chalk since our ceiling is while haha. my mom noticed when the actual sauce was up there but surprisingly she wasn’t upset 😅
The pandemic has nothing to do with this. I mean if someone rents out a property for a vacation or anything really, they expect to get their money's worth. My question is in your advertisement for your property did you show photos of the stain ? My bet would be you didn't. So to get to a rental unit and see that I can understand why people leave a bad review. Good that you were able to fix the issue, but you shouldn't blame the people for their reaction to something so unsightly. At the end of the day you are in the hospitality business so you should respect your customers opinions.
You clearly don't own vacation rentals. If one guest causes a problem, like a ceiling stain, because they forgot to put the shower curtain inside the tub when they took a shower and you can't get to the property to address the issue you don't send a photographer to go to the property to alert future guests that there is a stain on the ceiling which will in no way affect their stay. And there has been a distinct shift in peoples' expectation since covid. I own 7 rental properties and I'm in many rental property groups and have lots of friends who also own rentals, that would agree with my statement. But, I'm sure you have reasons for your thinking too. Thanks for chiming in.
he should have used straight bleach and a paint brush. i have no idea why someone would water down bleach to do it. as soon as the straight bleach touches the stain it disappears. Dries fast too
What I do is use a cheap nylon paint brush and straight up bleach, not water it down. Why make the ceiling wet with water again? Bleach dries fast. The paint brush gets the bleach into the ceiling like if it was being painted. No spraying needed. Just a cup with some bleach and a soft nylon paint brush. The other day I forgot that the corner molding was gone in a bathroom we are redoing and took a long shower for a sore back. I splash around and fill up the tub and twist around like a fish. When I went downstairs it looked like open surgery happened on the ceiling. I waited until dry and then used the straight up bleach and paint brush and one "coat" turned the ceiling back white. Glad that eff up is over. I need to finish the job. Also straight bleach kills weeds and grasses and ruins clothes there's several uses for the great stuff. I learned the hard way that you don't squirt bleach on shttt in the sun. Bleach heats up. I was ready for my house to spontaneously combust after I realized how hot it got.
Ha, sounds like you have a real love/hate relationship with bleach. Just kidding, but thanks for the tips. I'm sure this problem will come up again in one of my houses and I'll try your method next time.
@@TheRetirementality I think the brush approach works best for people like me who don't prep for messes. Just make them. I use bleach and water for everything cleaning. I get a spray bottle and bleach and water to clean the gutters. Of course I get just as white as the gutters when done. I finally ordered professional spray bottles if there are such a thing. Hopefully will get a nice jet spray to keep the bleach away from me and on target. Going to spray down my gravel driveway this week to get rid of the weeds

Does it work ok with offwhite ? My ceiling is not white

One point of caution - prob not a good idea to use a colored sponge for this. White washcloth or old hand towel works.
