      Been rocking my peak design for a year now. The mix of magnetic and mechanical latching is rock solid and I love that you don't need a separate vibration dampener. Only complaint with the PD mount is the bar clamp is quite a bit thicker than Ram and QL, fits fine on one bike but on the other I couldn't find space due to the bend of the bar and clutch freeplay adjuster being in the way. Had to mount it to the stock mirror hold with a 1" ball adapter

    Quadlock recommends the damper for certain models of bikes. in my case I had my phone on a Quadlock on the Husky 701 (one of the recommended models for the damper) for 3 years with no damper and the camera on my phone never had any issues. I still decided to move up to a damper starting this year with a new bike and new phone, but yeah it's good stuff.

    I've been using the $9 eBay clones. I haven't had a failure yet, and I can't really tell a quality difference between them and the orig. There's no vibration damper but I guess if you needed one you could use a real QL one, the plates are compatible. I don't have a phone that's sensitive to vibrations so I haven't tried that.

    I've been using a quad lock since I got back on a bike (almost 30 years off) at the end of the rona lockdowns in 2021. First it was with a quad lock phone case, but not long after I bought a phone they didn't make a case for. That forced me to get the stick on mount about 18 months ago. To say I was hesitant would be a gross understatement, but after seeing a video where numerous mounts were tested to destruction, the mount broke before the tape failed (prep is key). I'd seen people hurting their phone's camera with other mounts, plus I was going to a decent size (90ci) twin, and heard it was the vibrations from some bigger twins doing the damage. A bit over 2 years later, and now upgraded to a Boulevard C-109R the camera on my phone still works fine, even with the shitty, pot holed roads here in Sydney (Aus). If it ever does break, I'll replace it with another one without a second thought, cause for my money it's the best out there.

    I had quad locks on my bicycle, scooter and motorcycle. Two of the three were stolen while the bikes were parked. In the case of my motorcycle the quad lock was mounted on the rear vision mirror. The thief probably didn't have the Allen key to remove it, so they took the complete mirror. In the process they scratched up the gas tank pretty bad. Quad Lock $30, Mirror $179, quote for repairing scratches $600. So owning them has been a loss for me and I won't be buying another one, even though they are a good product. I have one quad lock left and the cost so far has been 2*$30 + $179=$209, or if I get the scratches fixed $209+$600=$809.

      This is the reason I won't buy a yeti cooler. They are theft magnets. I bought an another brand that works just as well and no one even cares. Maybe a quick release phone mount like the ram claw would be better for you cause you can easily remove the whole mount and take it inside

    Bought a handlebar mount for my HVA 701 Supermoto. Quadlock site recommended a vibration dampener, I didn't think I needed one. Fast forward to the first ride with my phone mounted to the handlebars and 4 kilometers later my camera OIS was done for, unusable. Bought the dampener soon after! Love the product. Also added a wireless charger to the mix.

  • @fat_joe
    @fat_joe 3 місяці тому

    Spike, maybe adding more mass to your cam whilst using the dampener may reduce the vibrations further, not the fine ones but the rougher ones.
    Also I have been thinking if I should get this quadlock system. Sure, there are a lot of reviews that swear that it performs really well. What I don't like is the actual mount on the phone. I rarely attach my old phone to my motorcycle, so having that extra mounting stuff on the phone will be a bit cumbersome for everyday use. I just like my phone to be slim. As for buying the dedicated phone case for quad lock, the barrier to entry just became more expensive for me. Any suggestions? This is not to bash quadlock, but rather find a solution for may case. Thanks!

    My reason for refusing to use a quad lock has never been I think it won't hold my phone! It's 1000% because I do not trust the stupid case you have to use! My phone goes thru hell daily and it would of definitely been broken if I had there case on it! So for that reason alone I stay with Ram mount! One mount works on every phone!

    Try to get a shorter mount between the vibration damper and the camera which should reduce shake even more. My only issue with QuadLock is the lack of drop testing of their cases. For sure they seem to have the best mounting system but in the end I really need to know that if I butter finger my phone that it will survive.

    I know the outcome of this, having used QL for a few years on motorbike, mountain bike, gravel bike and road bike. It works great. The only thing I think needs some real world testing is whether the vibration damper protects from the vibration for the bike, especially inline 4 sport bikes like the S1000R I have. I had the stabiliser bits in my iPhone damaged before QL launched their vibration damper, which I immediately bought and it seems to have prevented further damage. Those vibrations are a real risk - I had a bracelet on a Seiko watch damaged by this, with the link pins vibrating out. Strange thing is the vibrations do not bother me, in that I do not notice them as some people do but they do resonate with some things.
