@@jttcosmosI stand corrected and deleted my comment, I guess I commented too early haha. To be fair I think it deserves more than 10 seconds at the very end. I have both the locking and non-locking/wireless charging Peak Design 1” ball mounts which are pretty cheap comparatively, has built in vibration dampening, and I can easily swap between my motorcycles/bike/cars which all have existing ram mount setups. The case is also 👌🏻 (they have some cool accessories like wallets and stands etc if you’re into that) Also, not to ignore the most important part, mounting and dismounting is almost completely frictionless. I’m not an influencer/ambassador, just truly love good design and love their product which I bought with my own money. I was pleased to see that it also performed the best (according to their test metric anyway)
@@spacecruisersI did the same. When the PD case and mounts arrived I literally threw my phone at the mount and it locked itself on! Truly one handed release too! My old bedside wireless charger works with it. I got the car mounts that have the magnet without the latching anti-vibration motorcycle stuff.
The Peak Design moto mount has been bomb proof for me and a few others I ride with. And the cases are slick, protect the phone, and still keep a decent feel on the buttons. And it puts you into the RAM ecosystem. They really did nail it on their mounts.
Yes! The Peak Design Mobile line is awesome, I got a whole set of their mounts from the Kickstarter, then picked up a couple of the RAM ball attachments. Ridiculously secure.
I'm glad you took the time to update and repost this video. I wish you had included the available vibration dampers in the tests, they do cost more money but in the case of quadlock (which is the only one of these I have used), I was happy to buy the add-on to protect the well over $1000 phone I use it for and I would be interested in independent testing to see how effective it really is
Why would you spend $1000 on a phone and not expect it to withstand vibration? My $300 phone has handled 30,000 km of big thumper riding on a KTM, and the phone functions perfectly.
@@shhmule I'm glad you're happy with your $300 phone, mine has functions that yours does not, that is the nature of paying more money for things. Whether a flagship phone is necessary is another question. Actually my previous $1000 phone survived around maybe 10,000km on my DR-Z without the vibration damper too, much of it off road (and more crashes than I could count). But others had problems with the exact same phone, so I guess I was just lucky. I just bought the vibration damper for piece of mind.
Thanks for taking the feedback and updating. Although what I actually want to know is how well they do WITH the vibration damper. Cause anyone that is concerned about it is going to get that anyway
As someone who does vibration analysis for work, I'd be interested in seeing the raw accelerometer data to see what ASD levels each mount produces, i.e. the frequency content of the measured vibrations
would it be possible to figure out the resonant frequencies of the parts that are responsible for broken optical stabilization? In practice would that just be done through testing and breaking a lot of phones?
Absolutely one of the best channels on UA-cam. The previous phone mount video is the only time I've ever seen overwhelmingly negative comments, and instead of just letting that slide you went and improved the video with math to backup your findings. I found the original video came off a lot like an SP connect advert, where is this one definitely comes off like an actual analysis of quality. Thanks to the team at Fortnine for continuing the unbelievable quality you've always had
Yeah, they portrayed people caring about SP Connect's lack of upfront nature about vibrations as being tinfoil hat wearers, and then provided a control for QuadLock but never showing it with the vibration dampener which is the other half of what so many comments asked for. Great job FortNine, you portrayed people who cared and commented as conspiracy nuts. So much respect for the community that thought you cared about details and good testing, as well as companies (SP Connect as an example) being upfront about vibrational damage and marketing claims (Quadlock as an example of a marketing claim that went fully untested).
I have the QuadLock with vibration dampener and wireless charger; I was hoping to see it tested 🤷🏼♂️ But yea, I guess that vibration dampener does such a good job so it wouldn't be fair to the others 🙃🤷🏼♂️
I moved on to the Peak Design motorcycle mount (the one with the ball adapter) for my dual sport adventures and it's been the best mount I've had BY FAR. This coming from someone that has used Quad Lock, Ram X-Grip, and some no-name cheapo from Amazon. Seriously they nailed the design with their mounts and cases. You don't even have to think about attaching it to the mount it just snaps into place, and you can easily release your phone with one hand. Only time will tell about their motorcycle vibration dampener, but hey at least it's built in and they're not bending you over a barrel like Quad Lock.
The only problem I have with Peak Design is that their wireless charging mount is non locking. If they made a locking wireless charging mount for motorcycles I'd switch over from quad lock.
Having used the RAM X-Grip across 3 iPhones on two Harley Davidson bikes over the years (and HD’s don’t vibrate at ALL 🙄), as well as my leisurely strolls on a Trek Verve 2, I can report zero phone damage over thousands of miles. I refuse to use a mount that requires a dedicated case.
Isn't that like one of the biggest issues with some of these mounts, the fact that if you use a non-popular phone you're pretty much screwed to not be able to use it at all?
@@sirskyrage they have soft case. Looks like bag and it's ok, gives better weather protection, and there is vice grip. I use both they are ok. I don't know how good they are with keeping your phone camera alive. My cat killed it first :P
Hey! Cool video as always! I do have one question though: In some of the cuts of footage from the accelerometer tests, I can see that the accelerometer is attached directly to the phone mount. Wouldn’t it be a much more representative test, with perhaps a different outcome, if you attached the accelerometer to a phone on the phone mount? Feels to me like the added mass could quite significantly impact your vibration tests!
You could do some rough physics to estimate the size and weight of the phones from the size/weight of the accelerometer. There is a shred of hope that is what they were referring to in regards to having to do some math in the video. But I agree, Id like to know how that would change things.
Peak Design FTW. After scrutinizing options, and barely stomaching the price, I wouldn't consider anything else. The vibration damping, options for vehicle and home mounts, ease of mounting/unmounting, durability, and design are overall better than the other options...at a price. No issues running it on my Monster for the last year. I do like the RAM Mount ecosystem and still have one in my truck, needing to position my phone very carefully to avoid turning the volume all the way up. I wouldn't use one on my bike for all the reasons. Awesome video, but please do a full review on the Peak Design. I'd like to see what downsides you find.
agree 100% - I've had all 4 on trial here - the x-grip is great, as fits anything, but bulky and the rubbers will fail eventually - the sp-connect was fine, but I broke several and stripped the threads on the mounts (assume it's the pressed steel riv-but into alu) - the quadlock I first used many years ago, and was perfectly happy with, but the new mag-safe cases don't work with Apple's mag-chargers... it's a well discussed issue - 3rd party chargers seem to be o.k. ..... returned all my new mag-safe quadlock for a refund - then found Peak Designs.... the cases are a step above the SP & Quad, the mount is excellent, no twisting required, with the options e.t.c. being fantastic - recommend the peak design system
I was really looking forward after having upgraded my phone to buy a dedicated case with high quality mounts for the various vehicles... however I was quite disappointed to see that PD is still just "working on" a moto mount with built-in wireless charging... now that my phone comes with the capability I really do not want to mess around with cables everytime I put it on or take it off
I use one of the RAM mounts and have not had any damage to my phones so far. I really like that it doesn't require any particular phone case (you can use your own or none at all) and the extra rubber "wings" are optional in normal street riding (just clamp it into the arms which takes only one second) and you can optionally strap it down if you're doing something rowdy. The flexibility in mounting is great, and you can do complicated or fancy stuff with multiple mounts if you're setting up a touring rig with other gear like map/GPS holders, cupholders, etc and everything interoperates.
I agree with the smushy buttons on the QuadLock. However the new case for the iPhone 15 has very snappy button presses. In my personal anecdotal experience, from the three I've owned, QuadLock is improving their case design.
The Quadlock phone specific cases aren't a mandatory requirement either. This video, and the original, both seem to lean towards SP Connect with a bias. Portraying people who care about details and testing as being tinfoil hat nut people, and then also just glossing over the facts that Quadlock doesn't require specific phone cases, as well as actually having a vibration dampener (and then not testing it).
The only unfortunate fact for new 15 series Quadlack case is they don’t co-op well with any other brand for MagSafe charging, doesn’t matter it’s Apple or Apple certified ones. I mean the charging devices is not too bad from Quad lock, but I hate the fact they are not being clear upfront and took away my Possibilities to pick whatever I want.
but the buttons become better to press after some time. when i first got my quadlock case the buttons were really hard to press, after over a year it got way easier.
Experienced exactly the same switching from 13pro with magsafe case to the 15pro with the same case. It no longer works with 90% of my magsafe chargers except quadlocks.@@Agridoce0629
important thing for the RAM mount - for users of specific phones that have power/volume buttons in the wrong spot, the RAM mount squeezes on them and makes your phone unusable unless you reposition it weird. For that reason I use the QuadLock and im happy with it besides the fact that I don't know what wizardry it takes to put it on the mount with one, ungloved hand.
@@sys-administrator Yep Quick-Grip is the best, mine is on my dirt bike and I've jumped it, smashed into big ruts i didn't see in the shadows, pin-balled down rocky single track, hopped logs, you name it, it's never moved. Works with my phone in its bulky waterproof case and is the fastest/easiest to remove and replace the phone from, it's perfect, their X-grip however is terrible, I don't know why they still make it and don't know why it was in this review.
@@-TheRealChris Another vote for the Quick-Grip, it's the best, another thing to note is it lets you move the pins around to give access to your phones button layout and avoid unintentionally pressing them, unlike the X-grip.
Thanks as always chaps. Having used my Quad Lock for some years with no discernible damage to my camera I bought a damper anyway for only $25au and continue to be happy but with greater piece of mind. And definitely Zed...
I bought an X Grip because I don't have an Iphone and I couldn't find a case for the other mounts that require one. I was not much of a fan of the X Grip, because it's a bit of a pain to get the phone mounted up. I ended up buying the Quick-Grip phone mount they make and it's WAY better! Quick one hand install, grips hard, never came close to falling out. No idea how the X Grip gets so much attention. The lesser known mount is superior.
I bought a TACKFORM and can't recommend it enough. The vibration dambing is stock. Custom service is awesome as well. There is nothing to attach to the phone. The mount is incredibly secure.
I'm little disappointed that Peak Design and Mous Case still not make it to the test part of this remake video, they both have vibration dampening build in their mounts and their cases feels a lot nicer too
@@CKfaro They did test the Peak Design for the vibration accelerometer thing. It's the fourth in the list of their data shown. It's true they did not do a MTB run with it though. Still no love for the Mous case.
Still feels not very thorough. Would have liked to see peak designs properly included, would have liked to see vibration tests with the phones on the mounts, kind of pointless to test bare. Lots of details missed. Even though don’t like ram mount they have a new quick connect mount that is apparently good. Also new cases from all manufacturers have recently upped their game. It’s kind of like this is what a video from 2021 would be like if someone who didn’t know much about mounts would do. Would have liked to see what brand was easy to hook up to electrical also as that’s all over the place with costs and complexity.
Got a good deal on Quad Lock ball mount kit, now I'm looking for the handlebar part... Is there a handlebar clamp with 1 inch ball socket besides the "FANAUE Single Socket Arm with Handlebar Clamp Mount" on Amazon? Seems they want us to go from the handlebar clamp to the ball to the double-ended clamp to the ball that's part of the phone holder. The FANAUE looks okay, but maybe its handlebar clamp is not ideal for small diameter bicycle handlebars. Thanks.
Not Tested: RAM Quick Grip - 100% phone retention, no required after thought rubber band of the RAM X-Grip, and doesn't require a specialized phone case so there's easy access to the buttons.
I’m glad they added the peak design mount. I’ve been through a bunch of mounts and I (anecdotally) have found the PD to be the best. Easiest to mount/dismount, built in vibration dampener, and the case is actually pretty nice. It includes stronger magnets for MagSafe charging (adds magnets for android phones) and they offer accessories that work with the mount as well. It’s also the most elegant design using actual metal to the positive locking mechanism.
I love the Quad Lock, have them on my motorcycles, mountain bike, road bike, and cars. Crashed while riding on the track, and the phone stayed in place, same while mountain biking.

I've used the Quadlock Classic for a couple seasons now, and it's very nice and secure. The new mag-mount with an integrated charger is also quite nifty. I don't know if I'd trust it on a bike over the classic, but it works great in the car. They've also held up very well, so it's a bit of a "buy once, cry once" scenario. They also now do accessory levers for the classic system so that you can swap the lever to something other than the blue which is nice if you happen to have a bike that's not blue.
I use the quick grip as well. I don't worry about vibrations on my street bike that isn't a Harley. The main issue with it is that you need to readjust it for a different phone. This usually isn't an issue for most users.
@@KevinSmith-qi5yn Only if they have different button positions I suppose, and you can probably find a position for the side pegs that fits multiple devices. Only need one per side.
i flip the quick grip over, so that i push the phone down to insert it. This is easier, and does not push the sleep button my my pixel on the mount's side post when inserting!@@csn583
I have no idea why you guys used the old X-Grip and not the newer Quick Grip from Ram Mount. That said I can confirm that the Quick grip damaged not one but 3 iPhones before I clued into what was breaking the cameras. (Warrantied the phone) Funny enough my Yamaha FJ09 did not damage the phone but my DRZ did. Same mount was used on both bikes. I now live with a damaged iPhone 11 camera. Good news is that once broken it doesn’t get any worse.
I love the X-Grip for its ease of use and quick attachment to any phone with any case, plus the wide range of Ram Mount accessories you can use it with. I use it on my DR650 and it has never let go of my phone, (and I don't even bother with the extra rubber holder), both on rough pothole filled roads, and dumping the bike while offroad and pretending to be riding a 250cc dirtbike. It has, however, killed the optical image stabilizer in two iPhones, so there definitely must be some decent vibration going on.
The iPhone is your problem. And how do you manage the RAM having rubber bands over the screen? It looks like they strap directly over where the Back and Apps buttons sit on the screen, so you'd have a hard time navigating thru menus.
Thanks for the re-review, it didn't answer the issues I had, but at least it was a good follow up. And I hope the host didn't take it personally or get crap for it, I don't think it was really his fault and he is a good presenter.
@@chickenmunga ah yes, my first bike was a WR250X. that bike vibrated so much that it beat my license plate to pieces. ig it's ymmv for this since it depends on a lot. mine has been fine for 2 years, but that's with a Galaxy S22 and on a Triumph Tiger Sport 660, which is a lot smoother than a dual sport
I've been using iphone mounts from the beginning. The Peak is 10/10. The magnet is strong so when the phone gets close to the mount, it seems to get sucked right on to it. The release is even cool. The phone pops off with that great mechanical feel. I Like to take lots of photos with my phone and this makes it so easy to take on and off. Also, I can easily spin the orientation of the phone and adjust the angle of the phone while on the mount. I use mount with the silicon band. Well done Peak. You want a score of 11/10? Belt clip.
You don't have to use the Quad Lock case, there are stick on thingies too. I don't mind the case though. It feels pretty tough without adding much bulk and the ring thing is useful for the 99.99% of the time that it isn't mounted to something. I think my favourite feature is that the common components are actually widely available and the less common parts ship quickly within Australia.
Out the the couple I've tried and used, quadlock is by far the best, I added the ($25) vibration damper and I've never had an issue with camera damage. The buttons at least on all of the galaxy phones I've had have never felt mushy, they've always been super tight and snappy.
If you want wireless charging, sp connect has an anti vibration module with wireless charging build in. Also they have more mounting options en more non-phonecase options. I sell this for a living and know the product well
Been using the ram mount for almost 8 years and never had any issues with vibration damage or screen visibility from shaking, plus its been compatible with the 3 different motorcycles I have had over the years as well as compatible with the different phones I have had. with the ram mount I can buy a less popular phone and not worry if the mount company is going to make a case for it. While I agree that the ram mount is a bulky solution that's not necessarily going work for everyone I think the video severely under values the high universal fit of the ram x mount along with under estimating the value of a buy it once and use it for 8 plus years solution the ram mount can be.
I had a Ram X mount for 5 years on the street without issue. Once I started riding ADV it would fall off nearly every tip over. I also use Ram X in my car/truck without issue. I switched to a Quad Lock on the ADV bike 1.5 years ago and it hasn’t come off once. Last week I cross rutted, left the road, and nearly put it in a fence row. The handlebars and front wheel were no longer aligned when I picked the bike up, but the phone was still in the mount.
Random internet guy’s opinion: I used the Ram mount for a year on my motorcycle but it was quickly benched when my phone was thrown off the bike on the highway. I wasn’t using the rubber tether (I know it was mine own fault). I used it in my vehicle after that but I found that it always was pushing the buttons on my phone. I liked how the Ram mount didn’t need a special case. Since then I bought into Quadlock. I love the mag case I stick my phone on the fridge or microwave or work bench all the time and play videos. I use the mag heads in my vehicle and the powered motorcycle mount (without vibration dampener) on my bike. I’ve never had an issue with vibrations on or off the road. I had a good motorcycle crash at about 60km/hr and the Quadlock system failed (phone was ejected). Found the phone and it was undamaged. Mounted it right back on the bike. I now use the Quadlock accessories like the wallet and battery pack when I’m out. Strongly recommend the Quadlock system.
11:59 Can someone please explain to me how you can have (on average) 218% less of something? This would entail negative vibrations... The data itself is not intuitive either. Why are you comparing standard deviations as the main variables instead of averages? Why do you have one value of standard deviation even though you tested multiple RPM scenarios? What do the numbers and relations in the table actually mean? What is the test based on? That is excluding the million different variables that would change because you don't have a controlled environment. I really appreciate that the previous video was taken down and retested, but this still feels inadequate support.
I was also thinking that the amplitude may not be the killer for the camera, but rather the acceleration. (Or jerk/shock? I'm not up to date on my physics, I mean the force pulling stuff faster in a different direction than its inertia.) You could expect the higher the amplitude, the higher the acceleration, but what if multiple smaller vibrations were dampened into one with higher amplitude but smaller force exerted on the camera? Edit: I may have misunderstood the video at first, thinking he's saying more deviation = bad, while actually his claim was more deviation = good. I'm still unsure what their conclusion really was though, and I replayed it couple times. The methodology there isn't very clear to me.
@@LukasHaldathats exactly what the vibration dampeners do. Especially the one from quad lock. Its translates the many high frequency vibrations into höher frequemcy vibrations. This causes the mount to actually be more shaky causing the phone to wobble around more, but protects the OIS from the high frequencies which would destroy it. The OIS itself is a mount for the camera lens, which can be magnetically controlled to change the direction oft the lens. When it is exposed to very high frequencies the shaking caused by them cause it to move too much until it breaks. You can think of it like a bridge breaking itself apart due to strong winds in the right frequency, or a washing machine disassembling itself when a stone is put inside it causing it to vibrate uncontrollably.
@@CaptainChromYes, that's what I meant, not sure I explained correctly. With that in mind, how does "standard deviation in the change of angle over XYZ axis" say anything about damage protection? Meaning the more wobble (deviation), the less high frequency vibration and the more protection? Can't it still get into resonance and actually exert more acceleration on the OIS mechanism?
Pretty he meant 218% *more* on the SP Connect, but flipped around... so the Peak has about half as much vibration compared to the next best one they tested. Matches the charts as well. But really, why nit pick this stuff? Just get the one with the least vibration. And maybe pay for accidental damage cover as well.
The video I needed for so long. As it happens I bought the SP connect before watching this as it was a good deal on Black Friday. So I watched this with fear that I’d bought the wrong product. I bought it because it looked well built, sleek and subtle on the bars. Now I’m yet to try it as it’s winter and I’m not that brave. Thanks F9 - another great video.
This is a Canadian channel, perhaps it's $60 CAD which is sadly about $20 USD with all the exchange fees all the purchase platforms tend to add on for funzies. Also extra thumbs up for being the only person not using the incorrect term "dampening".
But where does rokform fit into this? I would be interested in seeing it be tested for vibration. It’s VERY similar to the quadlock. I would also be interested in seeing the maus setup as well
Having the SP-Connect with the regular vibration module(which you can just order here in the Netherlands BTW) I like it, it works well, simply, reliable, very adjustable.
@@MrSnowMen Namely, he dinged the QuadLock for something the SP Connect has too merely because QuadLock was the only one with a page emphasizing the importance. Furthermore, he took that good-faith information and used it against them, misrepresenting what was on the page by claiming the issue only affects QuadLock. I don’t have either and I will probably get the SP Connect anyway, but I was still one of the ones calling them out for it. How do you turn a positive into a negative?! Breaking: While I was writing this the video got to 6:49 where he again says that QuadLock’s page says that using a QuadLock on certain motorcycles can damage phones. The page says nothing of the kind. It says that the vibrations on certain motorcycles are known for damaging phones without some kind of vibration dampening whether they are in a QuadLock or not. It could even happen in a tank bag. It’s a shame they still didn’t fix this error.
BTW QuadLock sells stick-on accessory to transform any case in to QuadLock compatible one. And from personal experience - it sticks forever, won't fall off.
Good job updating with new info. I use QuadLock, I don't think it should come standard with the vibration dampener. If it did, the overall cost would increase and you don't always need one. I have a mount in my car, mountain bike and motorcycle, I only need damping on my MC. I do prefer the look of the Peak design option, however, they don't offer wireless charging for the motorcycle yet. As I'm already into the QuadLock ecosystem it's unlikely I'll change.
The one thing missing is that with the Ram Mount X-Grip, you can attach it to you handlebar using an adjustable clamp that can mount to any handlebar. It also works with any phone regardless of make and what case you choose to use. For someone with multiple bikes and phones, the Ram Mount is the only option, and it actually works perfectly. Never lost a phone while using it.
I thought it's Top Gear of Motos. Turns out ut was Myth Buster of Motos all along. Thanks F9, legendary Ryan.. and the new rookie that is filling up big shoes, but doing very well! 😊
It shouldn't matter. No sane person should be buying any product from someone whose entire marketing campaign is screaming as loud as they can while they throw things.
Additional data point. A ram mount on a 22 Africa twin with the OE tires killed both cameras on a iPhone 11 after a 80MPH cruse for 1 hour. Now running a quadlock with vibration damper with 0 issues on an iPhone SE3 for an additional 6,000 miles. Including the 80MPH for 1 hour. The new Magsafe cases are slimmer, work with wireless chargers, and I have no issues with the button feel.
I am a current quadlock user, former ram. I legitimately found both to work well. however I have indeed had an issue with phone damage on the quadlock. i bought the dampener and it seems to have helped. i am sticking with quadlock because ive essentially bought into the full ecosystem at this point and it works well.
I've been through the gamut myself and bought most of these mounts at some point over the last few years. the ram mount was too big and bulky, and the rubber thing is super annoying to put on. But ram ball mounts are by far the best. I've settled on the quad lock BUT I hate the default arm they sell. I ended up getting ram ball mount and arm (metal version) . then quad lock sells a ram ball that bolts directly to the back of the wireless charging motorcycle head (with the vibration damper). They now sell a 12v one, but I wired mine through the battery disconnect that also runs my fog lights so it will turn off automatically with the ignition, with an sae 2 pole adapter to female USB, then ran the waterproof type A to type C cable the charger comes with up under the tank. One big thing for me as well is that I have the same mount in my car so my phone mounts to both easily and charges just by being on the mount.
Quadlock, portrait or landscape 😉 sp connect pick one and stick with it. Used quadlock for years and even when a case failed, they sent a brand new one to me free of charge. One loyal customer for life here.
If you accidentally splash a few drops of fuel on your quad lock while refueling, it will melt in about a minute, and your phone falls off. Ask me how I know 😕
I would not say I am a fan boy of any of these brands but I broke the focus part of my iPhone whilst using a quad lock (phone replaced under warranty). I bought the the vibration dampener and know it all works fine. I ride a 2T dirt bike and only look at it for earth mate app when I am stationary. Hope that helps someone as I was super nervous about trying it out again.
Quadlock is a beast!! I've dropped my ATAS in every karma sutra position you could imagine and it's been safe. The case is also decent. I left the phone on the roof of my car and it slid off at 75mph into the street. It laid in the middle of the highway for 8 hours and the phone was unscathed when we eventually found it!!! Will never use another mount.
@@512mbflashdrive Depends on the phone, not all phones have camera stabilizing bits that can be damaged, which is something they should have mentioned in this review.
@@DJPTEXAS That is very surprising to me. One of my bikes only has one of the two handle bar clamp hex bolts in place so it can be rotated to avoid the sun and it's been working that way for 30k miles haha
Quadlock are very good, if you have an iPhone you need the vibration damper. I use the case on my iPhone and it doesn’t make the buttons difficult to use, its fine
Check out Yamaha's phone holder I believe its the best phone mount; it has a gear ⚙️ that when rotated extends and contracts the four arms, each arm has a triangle shaped basket that fits over all four corners of the phone and there is a second gear ⚙️ that locks against the first gear to prevent it from loosening. The mount is adjustable in terms of 1) The angle with the handel bar 2) The angle of the clamp vertically 3) 360 degrees in horizontal plane Advantages 1) Fast mounting and dismounting 2) Very secure (mtb trails and highway tested) 3) Very cheap (i paid 3$) 4) Looks tidy 5) gets rubber padding anf fiber body so minimal vibrations get through. Disadvantages 1) modern phones whose height to width ratio is higher (ex 9:19 and onwards) fits poorly. 2) It might not be able to withstand direct impact.
I used X grip in cars, but quick grips on motorcycles, quads, or anywhere the phone really needs to stay put. Yes the little rubber things can make the phone stay in the xgrip but its a PITA to use. My phone and my prior phone were in otter box cases, the big chonky ones, never had problems with vibration in 6 years of use.
Nice that this video was redone, however I still feel it misses the mark. Vibration isn't the only thing that matters. I love RAM because the versatility of the ball joint, not needing a case. I've run mine on 3 different motorcycles and it never wobbled or vibrated making it hard to read, on road or off. 20k km and no issue on my phone camera either. Mileage will vary but testing with the oversized model and then calling it bulky is silly
I used to work for a rental motorcycle company. We used X-Grip. Except for pressing every volume and power button on almost every phone, the safety strap would snap every now and then and phones would fall off, destroying them. It's useless.
That was a down side, but it's not like all four strap points are likely to break at once, so you have plenty of time to buy new straps. I purchased some well reviewed 3rd party replacements and two years later it still has not broken. Specifically, I bought NALAKUVARA Phone Mount X Holder Grip Tether Rubber Strap Silicone Security Bands
I went with Quad lock after i broke my rokform case twice. Havent looked back since. Yes its more expensive, but i have wireless fast charging, and vibration dampening. I wish the finger ring was a little more sturdy like the rokform, but it does the job.
Strange you didn't test the QuadLock vibration dampener. Yes it's an add-on, but that's what makes QuadLock so versatile. Do I need the dampener on a golf cart or kayak, or car dash mount? No. Less expense where not necessary.
I purchased the RAM X-grip mount for my motorcycle after seeing a previous Fortnine video and it was the best purchase ever. I had problems with various other brands beforehand, and RAM was the solution to all of those. A thief tried to steal it on my building parking with pliers and failed. They are expensive, but I totally recommend RAM
The quad lock button feel is actually much better with the newest version for Iphone 15. That doesn't rescue it in this case but it is a note. Also I think the reason that the vibration dampener doesn't come with it, is because when it first launched, optical image stabilization wasn't the norm on most phones. It shouldn't be that expensive tho.
...and this is why I love watching you: if there is a mistake, or people are confused, you expand and reupload with additional data. The amazing storytelling, humour, and overall just great content of course also help.

@@spacecruisers Did you watch until the end of the video...? :)

The Peak Design moto mount has been bomb proof for me and a few others I ride with. And the cases are slick, protect the phone, and still keep a decent feel on the buttons. And it puts you into the RAM ecosystem. They really did nail it on their mounts.
Same here. I am surprised it's not included in this video, I find it far superior to Quad Lock even.
Yes! The Peak Design Mobile line is awesome, I got a whole set of their mounts from the Kickstarter, then picked up a couple of the RAM ball attachments. Ridiculously secure.
Yeah peak design is best and it’s not close

Reuploading to correct your methodology is why you're trusted. Thanks.
I'm glad you took the time to update and repost this video. I wish you had included the available vibration dampers in the tests, they do cost more money but in the case of quadlock (which is the only one of these I have used), I was happy to buy the add-on to protect the well over $1000 phone I use it for and I would be interested in independent testing to see how effective it really is
Exactly, they gave control testing but not testing on with the apparently only vibration dampener available on market right now.
This is a huge miss. They literally redid the video to add additional tests but didn't test the anti vibration mounts...?
Dampeners 😉😁😁😁. 😎

Yeah, old FortNine would've displayed those.
R.I.P.
@@MotoDash1100🤷🏻♂️ they got big and now have to adjust for the masses, basically all channels have to do it.
Ditto!
would it be possible to figure out the resonant frequencies of the parts that are responsible for broken optical stabilization?
I have the QuadLock with vibration dampener and wireless charger; I was hoping to see it tested 🤷🏼♂️
But yea, I guess that vibration dampener does such a good job so it wouldn't be fair to the others 🙃🤷🏼♂️
Peak Design mount comes with vibration dampening already included, and the case is really nice, i’ve had one for a few months now and no complaints !
What an amazing move guys!
Re editing and shooting some parts to ensure better and more accurate results! 👍🏼
“It’s damper”
The only problem I have with Peak Design is that their wireless charging mount is non locking. If they made a locking wireless charging mount for motorcycles I'd switch over from quad lock.
I agree, I just switched over from Quadlock of 5 years to PD and love it.
Team Peak Design here. I have two of their motorcycle mounts. Hands-down the best in my opinion.
Agreed
And how many of the others have you tried?
@@csn583 like 4-5 various brands/mounts.

Having used the RAM X-Grip across 3 iPhones on two Harley Davidson bikes over the years (and HD’s don’t vibrate at ALL 🙄), as well as my leisurely strolls on a Trek Verve 2, I can report zero phone damage over thousands of miles. I refuse to use a mount that requires a dedicated case.
especially since most phones don't have a case for quadlock ect lol
The RAM Quick grip w Vibration damper is more secure and never had an issue. I agree I do not like using a case....
Well it dropped mine so average in my 100% damage to that equation. Just buy the far-superior Quick-Grip in the same Ram mount ecosystem.
Most phones have accelerometers build in. maybe use these and an app to read the data....
I thought the same thing. You'd like to think more mass would improve things however, but then again, the resonant frequency may change for the worse.
I was really looking forward after having upgraded my phone to buy a dedicated case with high quality mounts for the various vehicles... however I was quite disappointed to see that PD is still just "working on" a moto mount with built-in wireless charging... now that my phone comes with the capability I really do not want to mess around with cables everytime I put it on or take it off
You're still claiming that the quad lock vibration mount is an extra 60 dollars investment, when your own screenshot shows that it only costs CAD$25
€17 in germany
I used a Peak Design with my new 14ProMax this season. No issues, no damage and MEGA easy on/off.. All the best from Calgary!
I mean the charging devices is not too bad from Quad lock, but I hate the fact they are not being clear upfront and took away my Possibilities to pick whatever I want.
but the buttons become better to press after some time. when i first got my quadlock case the buttons were really hard to press, after over a year it got way easier.
i have quadlock for iphone 12 pro and buttons feels fine
Experienced exactly the same switching from 13pro with magsafe case to the 15pro with the same case. It no longer works with 90% of my magsafe chargers except quadlocks.@@Agridoce0629
important thing for the RAM mount - for users of specific phones that have power/volume buttons in the wrong spot, the RAM mount squeezes on them and makes your phone unusable unless you reposition it weird.
For that reason I use the QuadLock and im happy with it besides the fact that I don't know what wizardry it takes to put it on the mount with one, ungloved hand.
And it is much more secure than the Quad Lock......@@sys-administrator
@@sys-administrator Totally agree, the Quick-Grip is the best phone mount ever, I don't know why they even still make the X-grip.
@@sys-administrator Yep Quick-Grip is the best, mine is on my dirt bike and I've jumped it, smashed into big ruts i didn't see in the shadows, pin-balled down rocky single track, hopped logs, you name it, it's never moved. There are options for mounts that reposition the arms to accommodate buttons. The ecosystem is huge
@@-TheRealChris Another vote for the Quick-Grip, it's the best, another thing to note is it lets you move the pins around to give access to your phones button layout and avoid unintentionally pressing them, unlike the X-grip.

Ram has the “quick grip” which while bulky, is my go to. I’ve put them in all my work trucks and most my motorcycles.
I use the quick grip as well. I don't worry about vibrations on my street bike that isn't a Harley. The main issue with it is that you need to readjust it for a different phone. This usually isn't an issue for most users.

I have no idea why you guys used the old X-Grip and not the newer Quick Grip from Ram Mount.
That said I can confirm that the Quick grip damaged not one but 3 iPhones before I clued into what was breaking the cameras. (Warrantied the phone)
Funny enough my Yamaha FJ09 did not damage the phone but my DRZ did. Same mount was used on both bikes.
I now live with a damaged iPhone 11 camera. Good news is that once broken it doesn’t get any worse.
I was trying to re-watch this video yesterday and couldn't find it. Thanks for the update, team!

I'm a Quadlock user, but I see Peak has an adhesive mount too.
Not to mention you have to use the sick on mounts if you don't have supported phone like Samsung or iPhone
THANK you, Ryan for pointing out that the word is "damping", not "dampening", when the topic is vibrating the phone and not using it in the shower.

While I agree that the ram mount is a bulky solution that's not necessarily going work for everyone I think the video severely under values the high universal fit of the ram x mount along with under estimating the value of a buy it once and use it for 8 plus years solution the ram mount can be.
as someone with a PD case, I was wondering how it would compare, so the last-minute add-on is much appreciated
Would've loved to see how much the quad lock vibration mount helped
I had a Ram X mount for 5 years on the street without issue. Once I started riding ADV it would fall off nearly every tip over. I also use Ram X in my car/truck without issue. I switched to a Quad Lock on the ADV bike 1.5 years ago and it hasn’t come off once. Last week I cross rutted, left the road, and nearly put it in a fence row. The handlebars and front wheel were no longer aligned when I picked the bike up, but the phone was still in the mount.
As someone who lives in Denmark where there's a LOT of bicycles, and not a lot of motorcycles, it's awesome to see cycling-usable content here too!

I’m so glad you remade this! I was wondering why it wasn’t mentioned before and now I’m so glad I have a PD case haha
wait, why I feel a dejavu here?
Happened with the glove review too. New guy missed something too big to ignore.
was it the red pill?
@@MrSnowMen Namely, he dinged the QuadLock for something the SP Connect has too merely because QuadLock was the only one with a page emphasizing the importance. Furthermore, he took that good-faith information and used it against them, misrepresenting what was on the page by claiming the issue only affects QuadLock. I don’t have either and I will probably get the SP Connect anyway, but I was still one of the ones calling them out for it. How do you turn a positive into a negative?!
Breaking:
While I was writing this the video got to 6:49 where he again says that QuadLock’s page says that using a QuadLock on certain motorcycles can damage phones. The page says nothing of the kind. It says that the vibrations on certain motorcycles are known for damaging phones without some kind of vibration dampening whether they are in a QuadLock or not. It could even happen in a tank bag. It’s a shame they still didn’t fix this error.
Rewatching because good content deserves it
Have used the SP Connect on my Triumph for years now. I wanted something secure but not obtuse in terms of design. All machined aluminum to boot.
BTW QuadLock sells stick-on accessory to transform any case in to QuadLock compatible one. And from personal experience - it sticks forever, won't fall off.
Perhaps this guy will grow on me over time……..
Ram mount is a one-time purchase. No new phone cases to wait for. Ram mount's ability to hold or serve other functions made it my choice.
*damping
Exact same belief for me too.
Any difference between the previous one?
past 7:09 they do more vibration testing and add an extra product that does the best
I thought it's Top Gear of Motos. Turns out ut was Myth Buster of Motos all along. Thanks F9, legendary Ryan.. and the new rookie that is filling up big shoes, but doing very well! 😊
Love the content as usual. Would have been cool if you had also tested Mounts from Mous. Easier to mount than the some of the listed competitors.
It shouldn't matter. No sane person should be buying any product from someone whose entire marketing campaign is screaming as loud as they can while they throw things.
@@brianhaygood183 Mous products actually work as advertised if you bother to filter out the screaming and just focused on the results.
U already uploaded this
No, they uploaded a deeply flawed test that forced them to retest.
@@emmettturner9452 oh
@@gigajames The same thing happened when the other new guy did the gloves video. ;) Glad they are willing to do things like this.
May I suggest a re-re-test, mounting the mounts to a trial bike?
Funniest episode in a while...love the comedy...this guy is comedic gold.
Will never use another mount.
oh yeah, never used a vibration dampner on any of my bikes and my camera is fine. 🤷♂️ one of them is a buell, too
@@512mbflashdrive Depends on the phone, not all phones have camera stabilizing bits that can be damaged, which is something they should have mentioned in this review.
@PNW_Trials_Adventures Most newer phones do. My current is a s23 ultra and it's a-ok
Its all subjective, I had a Quad Lock come apart on me dropping my phone on an Highway exit ramp...phone was ok though still in the case...
What happened lol.. we want a re-retest 😂
Check out Yamaha's phone holder
I believe its the best phone mount; it has a gear ⚙️ that when rotated extends and contracts the four arms, each arm has a triangle shaped basket that fits over all four corners of the phone and there is a second gear ⚙️ that locks against the first gear to prevent it from loosening.
The mount is adjustable in terms of
1) The angle with the handel bar
2) The angle of the clamp vertically
3) 360 degrees in horizontal plane
Advantages
1) Fast mounting and dismounting
2) Very secure (mtb trails and highway tested)
3) Very cheap (i paid 3$)
4) Looks tidy
5) gets rubber padding anf fiber body so minimal vibrations get through.
Disadvantages
1) modern phones whose height to width ratio is higher (ex 9:19 and onwards) fits poorly.
2) It might not be able to withstand direct impact.
The RAM MOUNT QUICK GRIP is by the far the best phone mount, their X-GRIP however is pretty terrible.
Peak Design much better
I used X grip in cars, but quick grips on motorcycles, quads, or anywhere the phone really needs to stay put. Yes the little rubber things can make the phone stay in the xgrip but its a PITA to use. My phone and my prior phone were in otter box cases, the big chonky ones, never had problems with vibration in 6 years of use.
Lost a phone with the x grip lol
The RAM Mount Quick-Grip is what the RAM X-Grip should have been.
In Australia the vibration dampener is $20
Other videomakes and reviewers can learn a lot from how F9 handles critique. Well done once again.
Ive never been the first view of a FortNine video before. I am honored
