we had this tofu the other day at Malacca peranakan restaurant..my employer asked me to try to cook it on CNY hahaha..i'm glad you uploaded the recipe already..my CNY menus nextyear are most likely all from your recipes hahah..thank u so much 😍
Thankyu for the recipe...i was try this menu last night in the restorant, it is so yummy...i love taste....i want to try to make this menu by my own.....it is so easy....thankyu
I just knew that this dish took a lot of effort to make it.. Maybe next time will try to appreciate this dish more.. My mom always love to order this dish in a chinese restaurant but honestly i dont really like it.. Looks simple but actually take a lot of time to prepare it.. (chopping the spinach.. Beating the egg.. Boiling the water for steaming.. Wait for 2 hours until the dish cooled down.. Chop it... Fry it.. Prepare the pocai for plating.. Cook the mushroom.. Make the thick sauce...). Surely will take more than 3 hours to make a dish like this from scratch.. But.. Thank you for your recipe.. Hopefully got a chance to cook this dish for my mom..
Hi, thank you for sharing this recipe. Do you think I can prepare this during the weekend, keep it in the fridge first, then to fry them in oil the next day?
Hi, Ronan, great recipe, tried it once and it was delicious. I wonder if I can prepare this steamed tofu in advance, and store in fridge for few days then just fry it when I want to eat them. Can this tofu be stored and kept fresh in fridge? If yes, how long can I store them?
Hallo spice and pans, the steaming will be under low heat or medium heat? And do you think how long and heat if I fried it in the air fryer? Usually you mantion before fried, this time don't have. Hehe... thank you so much.
Hihi. Thank you very much. You can use the ratio of 1:4. If water is not enough to dissolve the flour even after stirring, add just a bit more water. Before you add the solution to your pot/pan, please give it a good stir and stir the gravy in the pot as you pour in the solution to avoid lumpy coagulation. Happy cooking!!
Wow didn’t think I’d see a homemade version of this. Always thot it’s a restaurant dish. Hope to give it a try although I’m mortally afraid of deep frying tofu! Haha...
+Hem Joo Yeo Haha I know what you mean. Pat down the liquid on the surface of the tofu and let it air dry for an hour or two to reduce the moisture - then they shouldn’t splatter too much when you’re deep frying them. Happy cooking!
ooh this looks super yummy :DD haven't had this since I've moved to Australia haha! Thanks for sharing the recipe :) Do you think the soya bean milk they sell in cartons would work? Or would we have to make fresh soya bean milk?
+Xiu Ching Hihi :-) can no problem. We actually used soya bean milk in carton too. Turned out great. Hope you can make this soon to cure your homesickness 😜😜
+Sue Teen Sorry for our late reply. We would believe so but in case you can get hold of Asian soya bean milk, go for the unsweetened ones. Have fun cooking!
How would this work by preparing the mushrooms first, then separate sauce (and save) and add mushrooms to spinach-tofu mix before steaming (so mushrooms are cooked into the tofu). Finally, add sauce (and more mushrooms?) for serving. Would the mushrooms add more flavor to the body of the tofu?
+Caterpillar Kw Hihi. We don’t think you can freeze this tofu because we’ve never seen egg tofu sold in frozen form. However you should be able to keep this in the normal compartment of the fridge for about 1-2 days. We’ve never tried before though so we couldn’t be sure if it can last 2 days. Hope this helps. Happy cooking!
hallo.. i need too ask something, if we want to prepare this dish, is there any part of the process that can save us time? i mean like, if i want to cook this dish for tomorrow, is there any part that i can prepare 1st? can the steamed tofu stay at freezer for 1 night ?
Hihi. You can prepare the tofu in advance (without deep-frying). Just leave it in normal fridge - not the freezer. However do note that there will be a lot of water emitted from the tofu so please pat it dry before deep-frying unless you wanna have an oil facial 🤣🤣 happy cooking!
ohhhh i really want to make this but as a student abroad soymilk is super expensive where i live, is it possible to use any kind of milk substitute (full fat milk, or heavy cream, etc) instead? I know it wont be tofu without the soymilk, but do you think it would still taste good? thanks for sharing, looks yummy!!!
Good morning from Singapore! Unfortunately no. Would ready made egg tofu be cheap there? Maybe you can just buy ready made ones and put the dish together. Actually the chopped spinach doesn’t really add much taste to the tofu. It’s the gravy that makes the difference.
Awww sucks, looks like i wont be able to make this dish for a long time because there isnt any tofu around me neither :( but i can get my hands on soyabeans in a nearby town, ill try to look that option up thanks for the quick response (before i started trying to make it with milk hahah ;)
hai Spice n Pans..thank you for sharing this. i already try it..but i forget to using paper when steam the tofu. what kind of paper that you using for steam the tofu ? thank you :D
you can chill the steamed tofu in the fridge for about 3 days with no problem. Freezing the tofu may change its texture so it's not recommended. Happy cooking!
+Baygamma Hihi thank you so much. We got the wok more than 10 years so we can’t remember exactly where but you can try those HDB shops that sell pots and pans. Happy shopping!
Hi Roland, Can I use the Australian spinach, just leaves without stem. Hard to find local spinach at Cold Storage. Thank you for your advice in advance.
+Rebeklim Lim Good morning from Singapore. We have not tried before though but should be fine. From our research, we found that Australian spinach can be a little bitter. Maybe you can try and see if the taste is acceptable to you? Happy cooking!
Rebeklim Lim Have u tried the wet market? They usually have them. The Aussie spinach sans stems are better for salads, they wilt much too quickly. U might have better luck with frozen spinach if they have it in cold storage.
same thought, wondering if it will work in the air fryer .. i'll probably spray oil on it and air fry for 5 mins at 180? LOL ... anyone tried air frying it instead :3 Great as easy recipe as always, love your channel !
Forgive my confusion, can someone please clarify for me what tofu made from soymilk is called? This is the second recipe that had tofu in the recipe name that was made with egg 😞 I'd love to understand how it works in Singapore!
Awesome. Happy cooking! If you follow us on Facebook, you can message us anytime for faster response cos we only respond to messages on UA-cam once a day. You can look for Spice N Pans on Facebook. Seeya there! 😊😊

A healthy wholesome dish...very nicely demonstrated...thnx
Thank you too! 🤓🤓
Hi there. Really enjoy your videos. How much corn starch should be mixed with water to create the corn starch solution? Thanks in advance.
Hihi. Thank you very much. You can use the ratio of 1:4. If water is not enough to dissolve the flour even after stirring, add just a bit more water. We really liked the Spinach ...Is there other to be

I just saw this wonderful recipe. May I know if I can air fry the tofu instead?
Hi I love your videos ! Thank you 🙏🏼 Can we make this in dish airfryer instead of deep fried ?
It taste so good! But can we store it in fridge for long if there’s leftover?
Hi, what is the ratio of unsweetened soya bean milk to egg? If I m only using 2 eggs to make the tofu for small family?
Hi Gillian, you can use about 70ml of unsweetened soya bean milk for every egg used. Happy cooking!
Yummy n delicious
Wow look so yummy.
Can u please write down all the ingredients? Thanks

Hi Daisy. No need to blanch. Just wash, chop and squeeze out water
Hello. What can I replace chinese cooking wine with? Something else that does not contain alcohol
Hihi, no worries. You can just omit them and this dish will still be yummy. Hope you'll enjoy it. Happy cooking!
This looks amazing, I can't wait to make it, thank you for sharing!
Happy cooking, Debbi 🙏🙏🙏

Spice N' Pans yay! That's great to know :) thank you!
Do we have to use the Asian soya bean or we can use the western kind?

I love homemade tofu so really appreciate the recipe! Would like to know, in the freezer how long can I keep the homemade tofu?
+Caterpillar Kw Hihi. We don’t think you can freeze this tofu because we’ve never seen egg tofu sold in frozen form. Do I need to add salt to bring out the juicie from vegetables? Do i only use the leaves ?
How long do I have to let the tofu rest if I don’t have 2hours. Could you tell me how long should I let it rest?(15min?)
Is it possible to fry the tofu with air fryer instead or will it ruin the spinach?
Sir.. is HUA TIAO CHEW the same as rice wine? 🙏

Hi Roland, how long can we chill the steam tofu? Or can we deep fry and store in the freezer?
you can chill the steamed tofu in the fridge for about 3 days with no problem. Freezing the tofu may change its texture so it's not recommended. Happy cooking!

Hehe. Now you know :-). Thanks so much Maria.
My favourite! Thanks for showing how it’s being done Roland :)
May I know where did you buy your wok please?
+Baygamma Hihi thank you so much. We got the wok more than 10 years so we can’t remember exactly where but you can try those HDB shops that sell pots and pans. Happy shopping!
Will it taste bad if i use normal sweetened soya bean milk?
Good morning! Yes it will because the tofu may taste like a dessert instead.
Hi, can I use seaweed instead of spinach? Thank you
May I know the brand of the unsweetened soya milk that you are using?
Hi xiupei. We used house brand of the supermarket (NTUC). Hope this helps. Sorry for our late reply 🙏🙏
Is there any substitute for soya milk?

May I know the exact size of the pan u use it to steam? LxBxH
wah! I've never made tofu at home ever. looks sedap. must try. thanks for the recipe!
Happy cooking! 🤓🤓
Banyak sedap lah
Hi may I know is this 菠菜or苋菜being used?
Good morning! It’s 菠菜。
Are they interchangeable for this dish? I saw some other recipe using chopped round spinach for the tofu.
Hehe actually I’m very bad at Chinese. I don’t even know how to pronounce the 2nd name. 🤣🤣 as long as it’s spinach, it should be fine.
菠菜含有草酸不能和豆腐一起吃,豆腐有钙
Can we use cow milk?
How long can I store the unused tofu?
thank you 🙏🏻 👍🏻
Thank you so much
Exellent.... I love it.
+Ignatia Jessica thank you 😋😋😋
Wonderful
Thank you sooo much.

@@spicenpans may I know the measurements please? Is the spinach optional?
What size of eggs do you use?

Thank you!! Going to make this for my weekly dinner at my grandmother's house (for 15pax) and I'm really excited!
Awesome. Happy cooking! If you follow us on Facebook, you can message us anytime for faster response cos we only respond to messages on UA-cam once a day. You can look for Spice N Pans on Facebook. Seeya there! 😊😊
Technically speaking that is soy custard, not tofu. Looks good, though. I will try it.😋
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
can you make eggless tofu?
Thank you so much for the suggestion, Joan. We would love to make this one day.
Another yummy masterpiece? 😸
Thank you so so much!
Do u steam on low heat?
Hihi. You can steam it over medium heat. Please wait for the water to boil before putting the tofu in for steaming. Happy cooking.
Spice N' Pans ok. No need corn flour in soymilk egg mixture? Plus do u only use the spinach leaves only not stems?
Lilian Hoh egg and unsweetened soy milk is enough. Dun need flour
Yummy !!
Heeee. Indeed it was very delicious. Hope you can try making this at home! Gong xi fa cai!
You're amazing 😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much!
Can I use fresh milk instead of soy milk?
Hi Ingrid. So sorry for our late reply. No you can’t replace soy milk with milk unfortunately because tofu is made with soy milk. Happy cooking!
What is Chinese Spinach? Tomiauw? PoChai?
+Donna M Hi Donna - po chai
Spice N' Pans Thank you, for replying and for the recipe.
+Donna M thank you too, Donna!
