  • This dish is one of the Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki Terada's best creations ever, and if you try this at home, you too will be amazed at how easy and amazingly delicious it is.
The best part of this recipe maybe that all ingredients can be found at your local supermarket, but if you can't find the Sambal, use another type of hot sauce, such as Tabasco or Sriracha. There is no set hot sauce that you must use so give some different ones a try yourself.

Tofu is legit amazing when prepared well (like anything). Freezing it in the package then thawing it (and then freezing it again) results in a chewier/"meatier" texture, and now I'm hooked. I like to squeeze the tofu between two plates over the sink. Also, you can bake these strips at 400*F for 25 minutes, flipping half way through for an equally crispy outside. No oil needed.

Thanks for the information, I've just recently started using tofu and my body loves it, I was frying it in coconut oil, but I can put it in the oven and that'll make it crisp also? I've gotta try that. Thanks

I made a contraption from two bamboo cutting boards, 4 long bolts, 4 wing nuts and 8 washers. Drill four holes in each cutting board so that they line up. Put a washer on the bolt, put bolt through both boards, add another washer and the wing nut. Super easy.
Then all you do is put the tofu between the two boards, screw the wing nuts down and the water just gushes out. Gotta be careful not to screw them down in an uneven way. Or screw it down to far that you crush it.

I used to press out the water, but now I don’t bother after watching korean & chinese youtubers using it without the excess pressing. Only time I squeeze is when I put in the freezer. I used to absolutely hate the texture of tofu, but now I enjoy the texture of it both cooked & cooked after freezing.

I don't have the cooking experience nor the life experience as this chef. Much respect is given to him that's for sure.
I've found recently that if you press the tofu as much as you can, then let it sit in a container in the fridge on paper towels for 48-72 hours... it's a GAME CHANGER for tofu.
It's dried out some and even when you rehydrate it I've found it just retains the marinade really well and is super chewy like chicken... if that's your thing.
Trust me... you're gonna love it.

Full disclosure did not have both sake and teriyaki sauce and it’s -35 c for over ten days so I am fast running out of groceries had to make do with hot sauce , ketchup and soy sauce mix and red wine instead of sake , added a few shallots . Will try with the original sauces as Chef recommends but thank you Chef for saying my day.

Tofu is great. It has so many variation of incorporating as an ingredients or just by itself, ranging from kimchi soondubu jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) from Korea, mapo tofu from Sichuan province, China, tofu with scramble eggs, tofu and mushroom miso soup, tofu lentil salad, garlic-chilli tofu burger, and hundreds of more. I personally love it. And soybean product in general has high protein with antioxidant.

I made this for meal prepping this week. It came out wonderfully! I keep asking people to try it and then tell them it's tofu and their reaction is great. I fried the breaded tofu in a thin layer of oil rather than deep frying so the breading got stuck and came off in a lot of cases. Delicious meal I will definitely make in the future.
