1986 Range Rover; Will it start? - Edd China's Workshop Diaries

- 'Will it start?' is THE question we have all been wondering about since John's garden find 1986 Range Rover was pushed into the workshop! Having already installed some custom made fuel lines and a new fuel filter, this week's job is to install a new fuel pump and sender into our freshly de-rusted fuel tank and then get that tank re-attached to the car. Surely once the fuel is flowing the engine will start?... Or will we find something else that needs to be fixed first?...
Edd China's Workshop Diaries 16: Will it start? (Rusty fuel tank fix (Part 3) on our 1986 'Garden Find' Range Rover)

I almost had a heart attack when you said "that is a job for...
today" 😀
I'm so bored at work I actually let out a small cheer seeing this video.
Sounds like you're having the wrong job mate! 😛

So happy I found this channel! Couldn’t stand wheeler dealers without you lol
such a great presenter in his general manner ....calm ,insightful ....how he dosent have a big motor show of his own ill never know ,hes such an understated star
Agree 💯
Nothing quite makes a Friday like a new episode of workshop diaries! Happy days! :D
It's not just me then...
@@mikeb6385 Or me
What I like about Edd's show is that he shows very truly the struggle of the small little battles that every home mechanic goes through especially on those "small and quick" jobs. Always seems to be one stumbling block or another, and never goes exactly according to the manual.
I love your patients and methodical approach to solving problems great posting :-)
I love the top tip with vinegar and salt. These tips are the reason I'm watching.
Greetings from Turkey, Edd! It's a joy seeing this old car working after all those hours of work.
It’s lovely to see someone from turkey watching Ed China fix a car brilliant. They have some good Machinic in turkey
So glad Edd fired her up at the end and didn’t make us wait till the next episode! 👍
Thanks for the spoiler.
@@muaddib667 Watch the video first before reading the comments. 😎
@@williammiller8317 I was actually writing a comment about something current in the video but if you're just gonna double down on your shitty attitude, you're the one who has to live with you.
@@muaddib667 Who pissed in your Cheerios sunshine? 🤣😎
@@williammiller8317 took you a while to come up with that zinger.
As an Italian who lived in UK for a long time (in Italy now) I am really pleased that I can enjoy watching his work again.
Am I the only who watches Workshop Diaries videos and quietly wishes each one would just never end? I could watch Edd work on something all day.
I really love this series and watching you being the Sherlock Holmes of car problems!
I've been watching Ed China for as long as I can remember , he's an awesome person.
Brother.... i wish a DAILY program!! you are GREAT !!!!!!!!
Straight up my new favorite channel. I could watch this for hours on end.
The difference between Edd and most other mechanics is that Edd makes relatively straightforward tasks genuinely interesting.
Quite like the viewer's Q&A section as well, takes me back to similar sections you'd find in car magazines to learn handy tips & tricks.
Cheers Edd, grand job as always 👍
Hello Edd! I always loved your work on wheeler dealers... I came a litter bit late to your show here on youtube, but better late than never. 😊
I came here from PhilosophyTube and this channel is awesome. The content is super different, but there's a similar feeling of happiness watching people that are completely in their element and sharing what they love with me.
Only discovered Edd's chanel today having stop watching Wheeler Dealer on Discovery Channel since he left. Been binging whole of today on the Rover series thus far. This was an episode so satisfying to watch not unlike a briliant heart surgeon succesfully putting the final touches to resuscitating a lifeless soul.
I swear Edd if you had left it until the next episode!....😄 Great episode yet again!!!
When you said "but that is a job for..." I actually shouted "Don't you dare!" Nice one, I don't know what I'll moan about now though! Keep up the great work Edd!
Me too ! had me going !!
exactly the same, i was like oh no you bloody didnt
Glad to see I wasn't the only one that got faked out!
Me too!

That tip about the salt and vinegar bath is one of the best I have heard of. Fantastic, cheers Edd !!
Edd China is the David Attenborough of cars, he's national treasure
In my dream Edd is my friend and we drink tea and work on cars together
In mine, Nik Blackhurst and Richard Brunning join us and Richard puts the kettle on.
Add Guy Martin and you'll double your fun. lolol
@@gwaynehiner Does he get the funk out too?
In mine, Edd , Henry Hole & Harry Metcalf from Harry's Garage...all working on cars & motor cycles...
Nice dream
Watching Edd is like watching sci-fi, and the answer is always, reverse the polarity! In this case switch the cables ;)
Spoiler!
He is a bit like Doc from back to the future..
Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow?
"I looked at the trap, Ray!"
Eddy china the best mechanic of the world 👍👍👍👍
I can’t believe how much I enjoy this!!!!!!!
So glad edd is doing his own thing and loving it! I used to love watching wheeler dealers only for edd, his knowledge and charisma are so great!
He was the only reason to watch. I used to record them and fast forward through the guff.
The chemical treatment on the wires is a nice trick, thanks for showing that as an option.
Cheers,
Nitric acid would be quicker; though if you get it wrong your wires will vanish in a puff of brown smoke 😂
He goes to all the trouble to clean the copper up then uses garbage crimp-on connectors which are open to the weather on the back end. Maybe some shrink wrap at least?
@@bill90405 I'm guessing the owner will be looking at a lot of restoration in the future, possibly including a new wiring loom given the state of it?
Just remember your chemistry. Acids eat alkaline oxides, bases eat acidic oxides. Alkaline battery mess in your kids toy? Use acid. Sulfuric acid corrosion on your car battery? Use a base!
what happens to the chemicals after, why not just get some new wires for such a short run?
No annoying background music 🎸 so nice and relaxing
Ed is the best , a master of his craft.
Edd has become the Bob Ross of the automotive world 😍
When I saw all those fuel cans I thought you were going to throw it all over it and give it a light 🔥😄
Making a cup a tea, one the best way to describe time in England.
OMG , I Must have been living under a stone, I never new Edd was back, Lol, Brilliant life is great again, nice to see you EDD, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.
This is brilliant and like the fact that Edd shows us through the inevitable snags 👍
Hi Edd from Pennsylvania USA, great to see that old thing roar into life! I moved here from the UK 5 years ago but still keep up with you and even got your book! I am a bit of a car geek and I love mooching around old junk yards looking at the old classic cars. If you ever need someone on this side of the Pond to source any parts or even whole cars for you and ship them over then give me a shout, would love to help!
This is the happiest moment of restoring a car.
It’s alllliiiive!! There’s something satisfying about hearing an older engine fire up the first time in years.
"Will it start?" title is Edd's official entry into UA-cam DIY family. Great job as usual!
Edd these videos bring me more happiness than you will ever know my friend. I cant wait for the next video to see this beauty clean as a whistle 👍
Crickey Edds a bloody scientist as well. love the wire cleaning part. so simple. Cheers Edd. You the MAN.
Wonderful to see it running again....bravo Edd 👏
The thorough clean will probably take as long as sorting the fuel system... thanks for the great Friday videos, and a great start to our weekend
Congratulations Edd, you've reached 700k subscribers 👍
Keep creating absolutely entertaining and informative videos, thank you...
This channel should win a UA-cam accolade for being able to hold you till the last second and then comment for another video asap and as it is released every friday ... we all end up wishing our lives away
I love the amount of detail you show. I feel like other channels wouldn’t have shown swapping the fuel pump wires. Thankful for all that you teach us!
I love this new series Ed! 👍
29:10 "That is a job...... For Today!" Had me going for a minute! LOL!
The music at the end adds such an epic touch to the event.
This result is worth 2 cups of tea, Edd!
Haha you really had me going with "but that's a job for..." 😂
Those clean painted parts look sooo out of place amongst all that dirt and rust lol. Great vid
Vinegar and salt tip to clean blackened copper wires. That's brilliant. Thanks so much for sharing. You made me think that last option was to replace the entire wire system. Really clever.
OK - Who REALLY believed that this old Range Rover might not start after Edd China did the mechanics? Great show, as always - but come on... OF COURSE it was going to turn over nicely - and it was indeed "brilliant". Loved it.
For a moment I thought Edd would scream "IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE!" 🤣
Missed a trick there Edd
Basicaly i did @home
That was really a lot of fun, Edd! Great to have a show where you can really get into the details and show us how to overcome a setback or two along the way.
Getting it going is today's job. Then up the pub to celebrate and cleaning is always a job for another day. Which is why my wife keeps saying "it's another day, clean something"!
For a brief moment, I thought that you would have wait another episode to crank over. What a relief 😂
I almost threw a shoe at the screen when you said: "That's a job for another day"
this comments section would be like the wild west if he had done that. 😂
Almost said "for another..."
Wow, a bit earlier than average Friday premiere, first I thought I was a teaser, but actually it's the real deal!!
Thx Edd, been waiting ~
Edd, sir you are a legend,,, for all you have done
Another top edition of Edd's workshop. Love it.
"We now have a working Range Rover!" Don't get carried away now.
Nice series.
Fantastic Ed. Good job. Looking forward to seeing it being cleaned then the list of MOT faults could be interesting.
I truly enjoy your excitement as you reach various points in the job! We’ll done!
It's a joy watching Edd working his mechanical knowledge on various motors.
Oh! God! You seem so exhausted at 29:14 ! 😆 Nice job!
You almost had me with that job for another day LOL , glad you started on this video I was going to be 🤬🤣😂.......well done my man !

Excellent trouble-shooting! Most people would not thing that a brand new, tested fuel pump was still the problem. Very fun episode.
Can't wait to see how it does at MOT, that would most likely many jobs for another day episodes for Edd.
I think Edd will have to start a new channel: *jobs for another day*
Just Soley to deal with the Rangey.
Might take as long as project Binky..
Will there be any range rover left after a thorough clean is the question!
LMAO!
It's will be spread out all the over the floor...

Great job done on that fuel suply and fuel tank cleaning😎👍
Edd you are super. Mechanics in Russia love your channel. I look forward to continuing.
The never ending saga of every classic range rover ever. once he does get it going, it will only do 4 miles tops.
