Wow…i’ve watched tons of these videos, and you guys are the first ones to mention that u shouldn’t do a “part”🤙Thanks! that’ll add this to my routine !
Very informative. I’m a diffuser kinda girl. Usually airdry for 15-30 minutes, then diffuse the rest of the way. I haven’t tried curl smith yet, so that may be my next purchase. But in this Chicago spring, I really love the Aveda Be curly enhancer followed by Dippity go girls with curls gel, or my fave routine is Eva NYC mane magic products. First, prep spray, curl cream, then I either use Briogeo rice amino gel or the Eva foam. Thanks for all the tips. Semester videos are the best!
@@franchescamayialmonte1303 I do a little air dry and blow dry cuz if not I'm like you and I can wake up the next day and my hair is still wet and I am not trying to do that anymore I tried it once and it was hell... I am not a fan of diffusing so I love air drying! Great tips on waiting to put gel on after the leave in/curl cream! Will be doing that! Too bad my hair is already dry after washing today, will try next time!
I agree it’s amazing how much work you put into this channel even doing research for us I cannot imagine staying in one place for two hours I’ve never ever had a problem with hair drying I would even finger curl it the whole time and it was beautiful but now I cannot even get it to look curly without a diffuser I think it’s because I bleached my hair blonde double processed it w breakage is this why my curls have gone away???
I can never get my hairstylist to cut my hair right either I get so sad because it looks so short in certain areas & long on some I’m like 😩 GIRL I still want the long look & long layers lmao
I just want to say this worked super well for me. I have really thick 3c/4a hair that's starting to get long and I was realizing that my hair was staying wet for 24hr+ periods. Anywho, my hair thanks you and I just wanted people to know this works for an even tighter curl.
Thank you much for sharing. I’ve had issues with getting my curls under control. After watching this video and following your suggestions my curls are amazing today.💕 who knows what sleep will do to them 🤦♀️ but I took a picture so I can remember what they can look like if I put in the effort and time. Thank you again!
Thank you Mel, your tips have been helping me a lot to embrace my natural curls and it's never been better 💞 it's rather hard to find products you recommend here but I just look for products with ingredients that you've explained in your previous videos. Love you xoxo
YESSS! Super happy I found your channel rn, easily subscribed. I have neglected my curly hair for far too long and ya'll have encouraged me to EMBRACE IT. Time to start picking up these locks again!
I so agree with this video! I noticed a lot of breakage in my hair after starting the curly girl method and air drying all the time. I already had some damage, but my hair is way healthier after I started diffusing!
I have had numerous bad experiences with gels in the past. lots of crunching and stickiness no matter how little I use, no matter the way it's applied. These gels, however, look very promising. I like the results you girls got. I may set money aside for some of their products in the new year.
I'm re-binging all of yalls videos! I LOOOOOOVE the curlsmith curl cream, it was the first Curlsmith product I tried and loved it! It blew my mind how wonderful it worked even on its own. Never before would I ever trust a cream on its own with my crazy head of curls. Now I'm addicted to this brand! I don't use a lot of products with protein but thinking I need to try them anyway! LOVE YOU SEESTERS!!
Thank you for making these videos! I'm learning so much! I'm a curly girl and my hair is changing, I'm excited to try these techniques to get more definition!
Hi Mell, I’ve been struggling with my 3A-3B curly hair. No matter how I dry my hair, there is almost never volume or curl at the roots and I always see frizz while diffusing and air drying . My hair looks more like Amanda’s, but I never get the same great looking results as her. I have just started my curly hair journey and was wondering if this was supposed to happen. Got any tips?
Maybe it's the hairstyle. My hair doesn't have layers, so it doesn't really curl near roots. However the front curls because the hair is more. Layered there..
I have a slightly looser curl pattern I think it's somewhere between 2c and 3a, but it's as long as Amanda's. It's also very thick/course textured and from soaking wet takes 10 hours to air dry - no one has time for that. I plop with a microfibre towel to get rid of some of the water and I do a combination of diffusing and air drying each washday (once a week with shampoo and once with a cowash as I have a dry scalp/skin). Even in combination it takes a good three to four hours to completely dry, so it's not a quick process. I have severe back issues so I can't just completely diffuse either, as it becomes very painful for arms/shoulders/back. I think many of us use a combination of air drying and diffusing with long thick hair. I do layer more products though as I need a lot of moisture. Be well and best wishes.
SUMMARY: 1. Start with clean, very damp and wet hair. Be careful if your hair is *soaking* wet because it could dilute and waste product. The instructions of your products will indicate you the correct way, so always read the instructions! 2. Apply your leave-in and brush normally so that it distributes through all your hair 3. Separate your upper part and style all your hair with the Denman Brush, always brushing away from your head. On the top part, try not creating any visible sections and style upwards 4. Wait for 10 minutes 5. Apply your gel using the "crab hands" technique and specially on the middles and ends. Then, scrunch. If you can hear that "squish" noise, your hair has the right amount of dampness and product. 6. Now let your hair air dry. Meanwhile, do NOT touch your hair with your hands, neither shake your head. Instead, try to gently keep moving your head around whenever you can so that your hair doesn't stays static and dries faster 7. If you have thick/coarse/long hair as Amanda and after an hour your hair is still wet, speed the process using your diffuser. Having your hair wet for hours can actually cause damage! 8. Once your hair is completely dry, finish it with an oil or a serum and break the gel cast 9. Fluff your hair with a pick for achieving more volume And done!!! Extra tips: *Lighter products will dry faster than heavier ones *More product amount leads to longer drying time *Try to always air dry your hair at home and at a ventilated room *Only air dry your hair outside if the weather conditions are optimal on temperature, humidity and wind *You can use a clip to gently pin your hair and remove it from your face so that you're more comfortable during the air drying process. It also may give you more volume *Remove some rows from your Denman Brush if you have a looser curl type as Amanda. Styling products used: -Curlsmith's Air-Dry Cream -Curlsmith's Hydro Style Flexi Jelly -Curlsmith's Intense Treatment Serum P.S.: this is something personal, but I would also recommend plopping your hair for (no more than) 30 min with a microfiber towel right after the styling. It really speeds the process and works great for me!
Thank you for explaining the damage that can occur with air drying. I've been doing it but I swear my hair was healthier (not curlier) when I dried it. But I'm learning to fix what products/ techniques I use..and i think I'm going to start diffusing instead of air drying
Penny aka basils mum here, I’m a curly, fine 3b/c. Dry it’s above the shoulders but wet it falls below. Seriously two hours? It takes me six on a good day, tbf I am disabled with limited mobility so lots of movements are tough, I do try to sway my hair but it takes so long, I’d rather dry it with a diffuser for an hour or to 90% then air dry the last bits. My roots are flat, but I saw your techniques today and I will try these, I’ve done all the clarifying, and protein but I just lack the big hair look. I’ll be back to let you know how I get on. Love you girls, and I hope you’re safe, xxx
You guys have inspired and guided me to love my wavy curly hair... I mean I haven't left my natural curly hair in probably over a year. I've always blown out or straightened. What combo of products do you recommend for humid summer? I have very frizz prone hair
I have hair like Amanda's, really thick and dense! The funny thing about my hair though is even though I have a more wavy curly type my curls tend to get tighter as my hair gets longer.
Both the section about brushing against the hair part to give better lift and the section about the “dance” to give the roots better ventilation is exactly what I needed for the mess that is my 3a hair.
I had been wanting to see in detail how you do the top of your head (especially Amanda!)! LOVE seeing both ways on different hair! Sometimes I do a combo! Thanks so much and please keep teaching!
I don't even own a hair dryer, so yeah--air drying is my method of choice! Some great tips, here. I shower around 7:00 at night, let my hair dry until I go to bed around midnight and then give it a fluff in the morning. I don't have the patience to fuss with my hair in the morning (yet another reason I never Refresh--they all take too long), so this is perfect for me! Going to go check out that airdry cream...
I have been diffusing the hair to about 60% dry and let air dry rest of way... but I am pretty sure if I completely air dried it’d take 4 hours to be all the way dry... maybe even 5😳
Its great when you have time for all of this. I dont know, I have to be up by almost 5am, and on the road a bit after 6am. I'm in Houston (worst spot for humidity), I will say when I'm home, my hair looks better when it can dry at home. Going in and out of the car, car heater, to class, my thin, low porosity hair just becomes limp and frizzy, once dry, I'll pin it up for the rest of the day. I really can only dry at home on the weekend or on break. During summer when its more dry, its not as bad going out and about bit humid winter aint having it.
My hair is now silvery white, which I have come to love. I do find, however, that products often have colorants in them that transfer into my hair. So anything that is yellow coming out of the bottle will make my hair yellow-y or, worse yet, brownish. (I use a purple shampoo and conditioner every other washday.) I love your awesome reviews, would it be possible for you to say if the product is clear or white as I can't always tell when it's in the palm of your hands?
Where was this video 20 years ago? Where was youtube for that matter? Thanks for this. Much appreciated (waiting for diffuser to arrive having lost my old one)
Just bought some air dry cream (not curlsmith unf)...hope it speeds up the process! 🤞Honestly civilisations could rise and fall in the time it takes my hair to dry. Great video Mell and Amanda!

I'm not sure about the moroccan oil but I know Mel talks about AG products a lot in some of her "cold curls" videos! Just thought I'd give ya a heads up
I went on holiday with my white friend with straight hair. In the morning she would use a leave in/detangle spray and brush her hair. Thats it. That was her routine. Shiny long golden locks she got. I was shook.
I was hoping that today was Tuesday because I kinda forgot what day it was and I’m happy to see a new video. And, I’m sure I’ve probably asked this a lot, but I have trouble with the back of my hair not coming out as well as the rest of my hair. It even feels completely different from the rest. Almost rougher. So I was wondering what tips you have for helping with styling it and to help with that roughness. Because it takes all my happiness away when I’ve felt the rest of my hair and then I just feel... a bush. Also, I recently ordered some CurlSmith products and I can’t wait for them to get here so that I can try them.
It’s such a pain to see all of these really nice curls around my hair and then that one section that’s just rough and frizzy no matter what I do to it. I pay extra attention back there with the conditioner and leave ins and deep conditioners. Try to put a little extra cream back there. Still rough and wanting to be frizzy. It’s like one section of my hair is hell bent on looking like Hermione in her first 3 years at Hogwarts.
I am currently in transition, I wash my hair twice a week. All of your tips and tricks have helped me tremendously. I have length like your Seester with a curl type between 3b-3c. I have one annoyingly stubborn area that loves to dry faster than everywhere else, and it doesn't like to define that well the struggle is real >.

13:13 I’m pretty sure I saw a Brand Mondo video (he’s a hairdresser) that said that if you diffuse upwards that would cause baby hairs to fly upwards creating frizz. Yeah I found the video it’s not that big of a deal I don’t think but I thought I’d let you know. The video is called “Pro hairdresser rates your hair routines” and the time he starts talking about diffusing upward is at 19:05.

First, prep spray, curl cream, then I either use Briogeo rice amino gel or the Eva foam. Thanks for all the tips. Semester videos are the best!
My hair still ain't dry after 4 hours 😭
I get you, that's why I never air dry.
4hrs please I finish a 2 pm at 10 Im still wet! Prefer blowdry
2 days here with 4c 😂😂😂🗣🗣
Use your fan girl😅😋
@@franchescamayialmonte1303 I do a little air dry and blow dry cuz if not I'm like you and I can wake up the next day and my hair is still wet and I am not trying to do that anymore I tried it once and it was hell... And my microfiber towels really help alot especially with my hair even longer to my lower back now and it being so thick 🙌💓. I know everyone is different
We need Mel merch, "Honey if you're gonna air dry I'd rather you do it in the house" 🤣
LMAO not a bad idea, but did any get that it was a lil mean girl reference? Hahaha
@@ManesByMell yesss! Honey if you wanna drink I'd rather you do it in the house!🤣
@@ManesByMell you so should I would get a shirt or even a hair towel ... Or a wrap for us curly girls 😉
"Whass good everybody!"
"The bigga the hair the harda they stare" !!
I am SO HAPPY thank you guys so much for this video and sharing your routine !! My hair has never looked this good❤️❤️❤️
I am not a fan of diffusing so I love air drying! Great tips on waiting to put gel on after the leave in/curl cream! Will be doing that! Too bad my hair is already dry after washing today, will try next time!
Since I have high porosity hair, air drying never works for me! Must be because of the cuticle damage like you said.
Love the results you both got! 😍😍
Yay!!! It’s Tuesday with my favorite sisters 👯♀️
Eri Vill You spelled seesters* wrong.
"So, after all that yapping..." 😂 😂 Amanda should change her last name to Savage 😂 😂
Hi, can you please talk about Amanda’s hair cut? I have long hair like hers but ı dont like my hair cut and hers look so good.
Stay tuned, coming up verrryyyyy soon 😊😊😊😊😍
I also have longer hair and my curls look more like hers but I can never get the stylists to cut it right.
Yessss!!!!
I can never get my hairstylist to cut my hair right either I get so sad because it looks so short in certain areas & long on some I’m like 😩 GIRL I still want the long look & long layers lmao
Manes by Mell ı am excited!!!!! Thank you 😊
I just want to say this worked super well for me. I have really thick 3c/4a hair that's starting to get long and I was realizing that my hair was staying wet for 24hr+ periods. Anywho, my hair thanks you and I just wanted people to know this works for an even tighter curl.
I just saw the first seester video, and the transformation in your seester's hair is amazing. What a transformation over 2 years.
Brilliant! Yay!! This video answered so many questions I didn't even realize I had! Super useful!! See, this is why I love you two! 💕
Amanda and I have the same curl pattern but I WISH my hair was as dense as hers. I have very fine hair and low density. Love it so much.
You made me love Tuesdays❤
Thank you for making these videos! I'm learning so much! I'm a curly girl and my hair is changing, I'm excited to try these techniques to get more definition!
I just bought this entire scalp line! I’m so excited!
Love CurlSmith. Hate silicones, they block moisture from my hairs.
I don't even have curly hair but I'm here for the science facts.
Best thing about Tuesdays! I'm curious what level of heat Amanda uses??? Low heat does nothing for my thick wavy hair
SUMMARY:
1. Start with clean, very damp and wet hair. Be careful if your hair is *soaking* wet because it could dilute and waste product. The instructions of your products will indicate you the correct way, so always read the instructions!
2. Apply your leave-in and brush normally so that it distributes through all your hair
3. Separate your upper part and style all your hair with the Denman Brush, always brushing away from your head. On the top part, try not creating any visible sections and style upwards
4. Wait for 10 minutes
Instead, try to gently keep moving your head around whenever you can so that your hair doesn't stays static and dries faster
7. If you have thick/coarse/long hair as Amanda and after an hour your hair is still wet, speed the process using your diffuser. Having your hair wet for hours can actually cause damage!
8. Once your hair is completely dry, finish it with an oil or a serum and break the gel cast
9. Fluff your hair with a pick for achieving more volume
And done!!!
Extra tips:
*Lighter products will dry faster than heavier ones
*More product amount leads to longer drying time
*Try to always air dry your hair at home and at a ventilated room
*Only air dry your hair outside if the weather conditions are optimal on temperature, humidity and wind
*You can use a clip to gently pin your hair and remove it from your face so that you're more comfortable during the air drying process. It also may give you more volume
*Remove some rows from your Denman Brush if you have a looser curl type as Amanda.
Styling products used:
-Curlsmith's Air-Dry Cream
-Curlsmith's Hydro Style Flexi Jelly
-Curlsmith's Intense Treatment Serum
P.S.: this is something personal, but I would also recommend plopping your hair for (no more than) 30 min with a microfiber towel right after the styling.
Check out my spring routine video I go over some of my top tips and some products for humidity Defense! ua-cam.com/video/QrUGImvW6s0/v-deo.html
Such beauties you two girls are! I am also appalled at the efforts you'll are taking to give us the information. Thank you.
Appalled, huh?? Good one! You made me chuckle.
Love the curlsmith comparisons! Thank you! Curlsmith rocks ( and so do you two!)
I have hair like Amanda's, really thick and dense! The funny thing about my hair though is even though I have a more wavy curly type my curls tend to get tighter as my hair gets longer.
Where did you ladies get those adorable tops?! I almost couldn't focus on the information because I was distracted by how cute your outfits are!
To the four people who disliked this video.... you got to be crassssy
"More on the wet and dripping side"
Lol I put in my styling products in the shower specifically because if my hair dries a second, it does horrible
I have been diffusing the hair to about 60% dry and let air dry rest of way... but I am pretty sure if I completely air dried it’d take 4 hours to be all the way dry... maybe even 5😳
My order is coming Friday I can’t wait!!!!
Thanks for the product recommendations! I've been looking for products to use for my spring/summer routine, can't wait to try these out!!
I'm new here and I just love you both. I thought I could only be pretty straightening my hair because I didn't know hoy to take care of my curls. I am just starting to learn thanks to you and I'm loving it!
Literally the only reason I ignore curlsmith is that they aren’t sold by target or amazon prime (I refuse to pay for shipping lol.) Great hair styling tips!
they sell some of them at ulta!
I don’t buy them because I tried them and I am allergic 🙁
Walmart has them
ULTA sells their products online and in store...
I also have a discount code for Curlsmith website if you wanna try it !!!
“CURLS15”
I LOVEEEE WATCHING YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH I AM TRYING TO GET MY CURLY HAIR LIFE BACK!!! I am only using Cantu and it is okay but day 4-5 it is wash day you know but I just want to clarify if using Cantu is best product to us for my short short thin curly hair. I need less frizz and more define. 💜💜 love your channel and love you! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you Seesters Mel and Amanda for this video tip of air drying curls. I have severe frizzy curls and my dry spot is the middle back of my curls. I'm going to try curlsmith products and keep you both posted. God bless you both always.
can you do a full brand review on the moroccan oil curl products and the AG hair curl products?
BTW i always love your videos! Im currently going on 2 months of my curly hair journey and hope that someday my curls will look bomb like yours! xoxoxo
I'm not sure about the moroccan oil but I know Mel talks about AG products a lot in some of her "cold curls" videos! Just thought I'd give ya a heads up
I personally HATE diffusing and a non distinctive part that's not literally perfect, both results look great btw :)
Just used these products for the first time... The serum doubles as a great moisturizer for my hands lol smells AMAZING
Ciara Rozet literally same!!!! Back of my hair is limp and dry and doesn’t even curl it’s like a 2A curl while the rest of my curls are 3A 3B 3C
@Isabella Chidiak thanks I'm going to give that a shot on my next wash day :D Xxx
I can never air dry my hair and get the same results as diffusing I always get more frizz and way less definition

@@sejieneedscoffee94 oh no I missed one?! How the heck did that happen! Thanks!!!
I absolutely loveeeeeee your hair! HAIR ENVY big time 😬 I’m currently transitioning my hair... Hopefully I can show my hair journey on my channel someday soooon xx
What's the difference between a leave in and a curl cream and when do you use one vs the other or both?
