This was very informative. Thank you. Today I'm down 135 lbs. I started a year ago. Learning more about this Science has changed my life. My doctor could care less. I asked her what do you think about my 100 lbs weight loss. She said. Did you lose that much. She looked at her computer to see my highest weight and said. Oh wow. You did. Congratulations.... then lectured me on why I should be taking a statin. Going from an a1c of 8.5 to 6. Triglycerides 295 to 70. Cholesterol 190 to 168. Doctors aren't our friends PS: Update 11/20/23 - My most recent labs show my A1C is 5.7. Cholesterol is 157, triglycerides 74. HDL 55 and LDL 88. My A1C was 9.9 in 2018. Doctors always said I would never reverse my diabetes. The seed they planted was true in my mind. I lived behaving I couldn't change my illness. These doctors speak the truth. Sugar, processed foods, bad eating habits are killing us. Food is medicine. Also, don't believe the governments lies about the Standard American Diet. Low fats and carbohydrates leads to illness and death.
I joined the Virta program. It's keto based. I have doctors and coaches helping me. I've learned to use my macros better. More fats and proteins with less than 30 carbs. I eat and feel satiated. My coworkers tell me how I eat so much and lost all the weight. I did it in front of them over a year so they believe me. I learned how my body reacts to food
I used to stop sugar on and off in the past because it was trendy to quit. Dr. Lustig is so sincere and convincing that I finally quit sugar for good because of him. No more blurry vision, palpitations, joint pain and the list goes on. Thanks Dr.Hyman for hosting the best of the best on your channel 💫
The problem wasn't sugar. It was junk food(suger COMBINED with fat, and artificial crap. And lack of nutrients) (Lustig isn't sincere; he's chronically fat)
@GaryHighFruit sugar is a huge problem. You need to do more research. Lol its the root if almost all disease. It feeds candida which affects everything in our health when out of balance, sugar causes inflammation and insulin resistance amd everything else. Its a problem when high fructose corn sugar is added to tons of foods. Junk food us usually processed carbs which are the nearly the same impact as sugar. You cant say one is a problem and the other isnt.
My husband of 27yrs & I cut out sugar & bad carbs, basically keto, on December 30th 2022. Our bodies began changing quickly after the initial water weight loss & keto flu (first 2 weeks). Then the next few months were incredible!! Losing weight, gaining muscle (strength training, rowing, lifting weights), plus our energy levels, mindfulness, clarity, stamina, moods, overall we’ve never felt nor looked as good! We’re committed for the remainder of our lives! 6mths in he went from 205 lbs to 167 lbs! I went from 133 lbs to 106 lbs! We’re both extremely lean & back to our weights from high school when we first met. We’ve changed all the flours & sugars & pantry staples in our home to keto. Now our youngest daughter (age 24) is joining in and she’s already lost weight & feeling better! I’ll never understand how people can watch these videos & still choose the twinkies over the homemade keto cheesecake. We feel so much better & enjoy learning to cook healthy meals plus bake Keto desserts, as well as learning the importance of vitamins & supplements.
@@joycebrewer4150there’s many other delicious keto recipes & desserts aside from cheesecake. Choczero is where I get most my pantry staples & treats, as well as many recipes!
I recently found out that I am sucrose intolerant. No white sugar, no white flour, I'm not allowed to eat specific fruits and vegetables, grains, etc. So I'm basically keto with a bit of vegetarian. I'm down 50 lbs total, from my heaviest weight. I'm basically almost at my pre baby weight from my early 30s and I was a very thin/skinny kid. I feel so much better and an going to be more strict now that school just ended.
Dr Lustig has been a trusted advisor for my continuing health plan for many years now. I am just short of 76 years old and have zero inflammation, arthritis, brain fog, a glucose average of 96, and a BP average of 115/75. My intention is to live to 100 and I have a 25 year plan that I work on daily. Body health including brain health as a single unit in focus. We all have a choice to be healthy. Don’t let others do your thinking for you.
My husband had a liver transplant due to fatty liver-NASH. He never drinks alcohol but had a major coca cola habit. He has cut back but won't quit. I've told him coca cola is worse than heroin. I stand by that statement
Cola is my absolute weakness!! I understand your husband's issue, but it also made me furious to read that he was BLESSED WITH THE MIRACLE OF has a NEW LIVER and us still abusing the culprit!! 😮😮😮😮 Disgusting!!
Look up the Englishman John Yudkin and his book.....and when he said all of this. In fact this guest admits he begin his work on sugar the first time he heard about Yudkin. And why haven't people heard of this man? And why was he belittled and called a charlatan.....well look at the American Ancel Keys. It's terribly interesting and we've been put on some version of the American National Diet for the past 50 years. Basically profit and political machiavellianism in the States won out 50 years ago and now we have the obesity epidemic we have today. Look at video clips and photos from 50 years ago and further back.....and try to spot the obese....it simply was not prevalent.
I haven't eaten sugar since 2018, and I feel totally different. The bitter fruits or veggies don't have this strong bitterness. Bitter herbs like wormwood are not so bitter like 5 years ago when I started drinking. My brain is really working differently, faster, better concentrated, I see colors clearer and intense, I'm not stressed anymore, no panic attacks, less stomach problems etc etc....I have thought out from my diet gluten and lactose. No more unexpected diarrhea in my life 😆. Of course, I'm still taking other supplements, but the good one, and I feel amazing. People, please open up your eyes🙏Wake up! Life without white sugar is more beautiful. And who has donn it knows what about I'm speaking 😊God Bless u all, Monika
@@Erica-t2uI know the frustration. I used to get in the car at 10pm every other night to get a pint of Ben&Jerry's then ate the whole thing in bed. On opposite nights I'd eat a large loaded pizza in bed after 7pm (violating all the dieting rules). I got a grip on it gradually by eating large, super nutritious meals and trying to eat by 5-6pm. Eventually the extreme cravings went away. I still avoid the freezer aisle in the grocery store and sometimes after dinner I have mild cravings so I eat a handful of salted nuts or sunflower seeds or a block of hard cheese - just something that has more protein and less sugar. Don't expect to quit suddenly - just give more attention to what you're eating all day. Plan a high protein menu of your total recommended calories for your ideal weight. Eat meat and vegetables and fat for meals. You'll be surprised how different you'll feel after a dinner of 8oz beef steak or burger. Check out Dr. Ken Berry's Monday night live Q&A and then watch all his other videos on low carb lifestyle and nutrition. You CAN do it! Lots of testimonials around UA-cam.
@@Erica-t2uI understand that. The cravings and total sugar pig-outs in the middle of the night were a REAL PROBLEM for me too! Then I nearly choked on hard candies in my sleep two nights in a row! Duhhhhh!! Something had to change. I'm a mental health practitioner, not an expert on the physical, so I'm not advising this, just saying it seems to have worked for me- I now put cheese cubes by my bed for that late night assault. No sugar and no choking!! 😂😂😂 My understanding is that our liver purges at about 4am (if we are going down around 11 or midnight) so we get a prompt that something has changed dramatically in our body and needs attention, but the message we get is distorted by habitual response. I grabbed sugar. Now I believe protein is a better response. I STILL can't seem to sleep when hungry AT ALL....OH WELL...We do what we can.❤😂🎉 Keep Working it, kids! A little bit is better than none.
Mark - in future I’d recommend not interrupting your guest every 30 seconds with comments. He’s the expert here: let him speak! It’s a frustrating listen, but worth it for Lustigs passion.
I noticed that too & it was a little annoying however I realize perhaps Marks reactions were due to the excitement caused by the information Dr. Lustigs was sharing. 😉🎉
Yes, he is an annoying serial interrupter with a constant interjection of a one word affirmation while the other speaker is making a point. He also interrupts w/ his takes, too.
Omg!!!!!! mark was a bit annoying that I almost stopped watching!!!! I didn’t want to hear Mark at all…I know mark has alot of knowledge but I prefer to hear Dr Lustig
I finished watching this interview and the recurring thought in my mind is that this is great, fantastic and such a good encompassing clear picture of the underlying issue. However, we need a presentation on this targeted at kids directly. I have an MSc in Biomedical Sciences so my 12 year old knows quite a bit about biology, but there’s no way that he is going to listen to a talk that is more than an hour long on this. Our kids are not dumb. They need to be educated directly and they will not necessarily listen to their parents. We need them to understand this themselves so that they can have the insight to know what they are putting into their mouths and can make their own educated decisions. Even medics and scientists who know that sugar is bad are consuming it on a large scale because the addiction is so deeply ingrained and normalized in society. The adults/parents are not equipped to wage this war even if they want to. So my plea to Dr Hyman and Dr Lustig is: Please make a basic presentation for kids, maybe for different age groups even. There’s a gap in information transfer here and it’s the information that we need to feed to our kids. Once the understanding comes, there’s a better chance that there will be willingness on their part to change their behavior. Roll this out in schools even. Let biology teachers show this in class. And please don’t make this targeted at US audience only. There really is such a thing as the rest of the world.
Maybe look up the Fat Head Movies. They're targeted at kids in cartoons so the message gets through in a fun way. I think there's 4 or 5 of them, hope this is helpful 😀
Sugar or sukari in Kiswahili language is a household item and a powerful proxy for economic soundness. It's absence in a home is self measurement of how deep in poverty one is. I realize households without sugar should rank themselves healthy! Complete turn round of mindset! Thank you for the presentation.
Since 12th February 2023,I stopped eating 1. Table Sugar 2. Rice ( All types) 3. Bakery Products ( Refined Carbohydrates) 4. Flavored Drinks ( Nescafé, Nestea etc ) 5. I learned much more today with your podcast. At 69 years old, I want to help myself to be as healthy as I can be. I don't want to live to be 100, but want to enjoy a few good years. I have managed a relatively good health by not taking prescription drugs. I'll follow and practice as much as I can your good advice> Thank you Doctor Hyman and Doctor Lustig.
In the 1960s my mom told me adult onset diabetes was caused by eating too much sugar. She was a PhD in biochemistry and my dad an internal medicine doctor.
Dropped seven prescription drugs I was supposed to be on for life. By cutting out processed foods and processed sugar. Not to mention I lost forty pounds as well. I have kept it off for eleven years. This is not easy to do, although it is definitely possible for those who are willing to commit to the process. After you get on a healthy eating program, you must learn to retrain the way you think about sugar and processed foods. This was something I had to fight daily for about three years! Until I retrained myself mentally not to desire the the destructive foods in my mind. You can do this also, but it will require a fight.
@@Moose185 It will be that way for about three weeks until you get the processed sugar and processed foods out of your system. From that point forward, you will need to train your mind (daily) NOT to go back to eating those kind of foods. The toughest part is retraining yourself to eat healthy foods daily UNTIL it becomes a lifetime habit. Most people go back to comfort foods under stress. Plan in advance, how you are going to solve this problem BEFORE it happens. I removed all the junk food out of my cub bards/house and only allowed healthy foods in the home. This helped so much!
@@Brian-rs4ug yeah that’s a great idea to remove all bad food from my cupboard, the thoughts just come all the time, I’ve got a health condition so kind of used food as a pick me up. It’s difficult when you don’t really seem to enjoy many things.
@@Moose185 I didn’t change my eating habits until I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia eleven years ago. Healthy eating habits helped so much. Hang in there, it will get easier for you in time. Developing a new habit is very difficult when started out.
@@Moose185Figure out why you lack enthusiasm. And fix THAT!! Food will never heal that - as you know all too well, I am sure. It's probably some trauma buried in there from way back. I went on this journey and found out some truly horrific facts but it's Doable. Good Luck. If you didn't believe it could get better, I don't believe you would be here!!
I've stopped sugar and processed foods (I'm 52) and am as lean as I was when I was a teenager, feel great etc. The information from guys like this is invaluable, great talk.
My 6 yr old dog was diagnosed with lymphoma and the information in this podcast is giving me hope. But most of all a plan for me and my dog. ❤ Thank you ❤️❤️
@@janegreen191Exactly right. Commercial food and endless toxic jabs have been destroying our pets' health, just like "they" have been doing to people.
Informative, far ranging and "digestible" content for the layman. Being new to the true metabolic relationship of the Western diet to our bodies, I am stunned there hasn't been an uprising in this country to make the changes we need for our health, especially our children's health. The reason? There is no money in telling the truth, so most people are unaware of what we put into our mouths and how it affects our health. Social media is where I get so much information about how my body interacts with the food I eat and, despite its drawbacks, it is a powerful tool for getting the word out, this conversation as a prime example. Thank you.
I appreciate how passionate Dr. Lustig is about this topic, in every interview he really is dishing out the truth. Information is such a valuable asset and imagine if we don't have knowledge about these, the trillion dollar industries of unhealthy processed food are still banking on us and pushing us closer to diseases everyday.
Doc Lustig is a serious science based investigator that deserves a 'Hero of the World' medal. Hyman, he's ok but I wish he would stop with the 'not clever wise cracks' and quit interrupting with his goof-ball remarks. I quit watching Hyman sometime ago but Lustig is so important that I'll put up with Mark. I now get most of my useful information about nutrition and exercise from Dr. Ted Naiman & Doug McGuff plus a few others here and there. Mark, if nothing else, helped me get on a path of investigation that has lead to wonders for my 75 yr old body's health & strength. I have a bio age roughly around 50 to 55 and shrinking. Well, actually I just hoping that's its shrinking. Thx Mark & huge kudos to Dr. Lustig.
Thanks Mark for bringing this Genius on your show it is a great conversation between the you two . The amount of information i picked up in few months listening to you guys is just incredible. iI fixed so many problems like Lowering Ldl and improving my Insulin levels in the last 6 months. I walk 4ms a day and excercise 5 days a week and mostly OMAD. My total fasting Cholesterol 6 months ago was 7.7 and last week i did a blood test it came down to ldl cholesterol 3.6 . i feel great now and don't have that brain fog any more and lastly goodbye to Statins.
He has been my initial eye-opener, ensuing to watch channels like the ones by Dr. Sten Ekberg and Dr. Eric Berg . I‘m so grateful for all this deep and comprehensive and utterly important information, I otherwise would never have gotten. The US is the most contrasting country: Putting out much of the most detrimental and much of the most brilliant stuff.
Berg is a chiropractor and a scientologist. He encourages ketosis which is linked with depression and hairloss, hugely in women. I have a son with Type 1, being in ketoacidosis is very dangerous believe me, studies show long term ketosis can trigger it. I'm all for cutting refined sugar and fructose, but Berg can do one and jog on. You might be interested in what his own son thinks of him. I'm only interested in what the actual educated experts have to say, like Lustig.
@@irishcountrygirl78 Can we really say Lustig is an expert in health & diet? MD's don't learn much about that. In fact, I've noticed MD's have a strange take on health.
@Tracey I can’t care too much if Dr Berg is a scientologist or not, It‘s his personal affair, and I haven’t heard anything criminal or highly questionable about that organisation. Why don’t we get alerted when someone is member of the Catholic Church? - That’s the one which has blood all over itself ! Dr. Berg’s private life is his own affair, as long as he commits no crime. He also doesn’t promote in the slightest Scientology in any of his appearances, for as far as I’ve seen them. I‘ve seen a Skype podcast by his son some months ago. I can’t even recall the content, so insignificant it must have been. No child abuse or torture chambers reported in them. Looks to me as if that’s a son-father issue on other things and a seek for revenge. Who knows?.
Fantastic podcast. I totally believe sugar (fructose), corn (HFCS) and soy (Omega-6) are the sources of most health problems. I think the arachidonic acid/EPA ratio drives systemic inflammation and recent clinical trials with Omega-3 EPA reducing cardiovascular disease 25% proves the “foodable” solution and that we have what I call “EPA deficiency syndrome” as a result of processed foods. So much good info in this podcast. I cut out fructose, used intermittent fasting and take 4gms of pure EPA and my health drastically improved. Food, not drugs, are the solution (and I am a pharmacist)
@@megmeyer7563Eicosapentaenoic acid = EPA one of several omega-3 fatty acids found in cold-water fatty fish, such as salmon. It is also found in fish oil supplements, along with DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Our bodies do not produce enough EPA, DHA, & other omega-3 fatty acids so we must ingest these in our diet.
This is an absolute stellar watch for after reading Dr. Lustig's book, Metabolical. A perfect interactive summary and review of the major technical points. Awesome interview. 😎✌️
This is the first time I heard Dr. Robert Lustig with Dr. Mark Hyman. Fantastic Functional Medicine Physicians. Thank you so much for the brilliant explanation of Sugars. I am from the Philippines.
I keep spreading the word to younger generations...my own kids and their friends... about heros like you...from my generation, late Baby Boomers...that are truly saving the world through food research. I love this stuff. Thank you, Gentlemen!!
Absolutely fantastic. No words are enough to thank you. Knowledge is Power. Unfortunately, we live in a hostile environment, where Truth is being slaughtered.
I've had a periodic high blood pressure issue since my pregnancies in my 20s. I also was advised by medical professionals to eat high carb low fat, consequently got very overweight. I worked for a doctor a couple years and noticed newly diagnosed patients advised to lower salt intake came back a week later with higher bp. Figured out there and then salt didn't obviously cause hbp as I'd been told all my adult life. Took another couple decades to figure out the lie of the high carb low fat way of eating was a giant lie, thanks Ancel Keyes and the wealthy parasites that hired him to promote the lie. Medical doctors only know medication and everything they do is to diagnose for prescriptions. If you fall for it. My son was diagnosed this week with diabetes. The nurse practitioner of course prescribed metformin, but after I said shouldn't he just change his diet said yes. I will be looking into metformin which seems benign but I believe causes other issues, like all medication does.
There's so much good info out there today. I wish you the best. For me OMAD LCHF (animal fats only, butter eggs dairy) Dr feng fasting What ever you like or works for you. I feed my kids lots of homemade things. Soaked in butter or protein. They don't eat as much of it compared to store bought foods. Make burgers no buns. Just cut all soda, tea and processed meats, processed treats. Make your own butter loaded cookies. Maybe add some protein powder. It'll fill you up and you wont have the cravings after. High vegetable intake if you can take it. if not, just have a few. Or find ones you like. Don't force it if you hate it today. Later on you may like the veg. Lustig is the man Follow how he did his studies with kids. Substitute the processed low fiber foods with more whole/full fat foods. Lower sugar things.
@hoboonwheels9289 Try berberine instead of metformin. Taking 1 500mg capsule 3 x day has lowered my A1C to 6 from 10. It has helped my husband, too. He was having so many side effects from metformin that he didn't want to take it. The research I did for an alternative to metformin was what brought berberine to my attention. Research it. I hardly ever have to use insulin anymore.
I strongly recommend that you read "Dr Bernstein's Dibetes Solution" by Dr Richard Bernstein. This man knows more about diabetes management than anyone.
@@scoobtoober2975do you make the cookies for the kids a specific way? Im desperate to replace the snack foods with better options they’ll actually eat!
Google "cooks illustrated chocolate chip cookies" cut the sugar a little bit, but make it full strength the first time. Then use 70% chocolate or something dark. No cheap chips. Organic flour and grass fed butter is the next upgrade. It's about how saturated it is and nutrient profile. Throw all seed oils away. Our kids are still doing good and satiated, they don't finish most desserts anymore. Except ice cream, they always do on that. Other good desserts are cheese cake and flourless chocolate cake. GF for our frieds. No crust for the cheese cake. Look up bryan langerstrom. I make half the cheeesecake, round pan on a sheet tray, works great no cracks. Have any for questions. Not true, shops tries to convince you so, cause they only sells that, cause the public loves it most, cause of the taste, but there are Carnivore and such diets, even green leafy vegetables starchless are ok, wont mess anyone up
This was a fantastic interview with Dr. Lustig, the first time I have heard about him before, and I bought his book. It seems the more one learns, outside of the common narrative, the more one learns how money and lies have contributed to disease, drug pushing, and death. Thank you for this information.
Eliminate sugar from your diet, including fruit juices (just eat small amounts of whole fruits like 1 apple or pear at the end of a meal). Processed foods tend to have added sugars like high fructose corn syrup so eliminate them too. Then eliminate all grains and flours since they are metabolized as glucose and they increase your insulin. Your best bet is eating a diet centered around whole foods, particularly non-processed meat, eggs and seafood accompanied by non-starchy vegetables. Check your blood glucose levels several times a day to determine what foods spike your blood glucose too much. Include daily movement (walking is ok. Adding some weights while walking help to build muscle which is essential for older folk)
Cut out sugars as much as possible and stop eating crap food altogether ( chips and fast-food) and you will see a Big improvement in your mood and pain levels in just a few short months, if not weeks or even days. That's pretty easy, right? I felt such joint pain relief after 3 days of stopping my GINORMOUS COLA HABIT at 55, that it inspired me to keep clear of that stuff for good. Now at 58, I am happy and healthy. No more "BIPOLAR". It gets easier as you feel the results. And see your numbers just going down, down, down. I'm sure I could do better things for myself, but neurosis makes me feel sick. 😂 Keep It Simple seems to work for me. Good luck. YOU GOT THIS ❤
Look I've been on keto on and off for years love everything you do ,you help people every day and answer everything people are experiencing thank you for all you do
I find the history of much of this quite interesting. I grew up in northwest New Jersey in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. There was an enormous amount of farmland in that specific region that was “converted” to suburbia during the post WW2 period as industrial scale farming became more regionalized and…presumably… the American caloric production industry transitioned more towards transportable processed foods. One might say that urban planning, in the form of highway construction, suburban expansion and loss of diverse regional farmland may have also contributed to where we are today. Most pre-war cities had farmlands that “fed” their regional populations. This wasn’t universal across the board as some globalization always existed and the age of railroads permitted long distance transportation of commodities such as beef, pork, wheat and even dairy products. The question I always have is “what happened in 1980”? And by 1980 I really mean 1970-1985 because I really feel like the country hit a tipping point around then. As I child I recall consuming quite a bit of sugar as did my childhood pals. Nevertheless, it seems many of us were healthier than the children described as being “typical” today.
In 1980, the FDA came out with their new food pyramid. Prior to this date, it didn't exist. It was based on falsified data put together by Ancel Keys, which wrongly emphasized more carbohydrates needed to be included in the American diet rather than saturated fat. This mistake can be attributed to the early death of many thousands of people.
I was born in 1964 so I grew up in the 1970s and early 1980s. Two things come to mind. (1) when did they start substituting HFC Syrup for sugar. (2) when did moms enter the work force full time and this needing convenience food?
@@eriwendikhaila Read Gary Taubes. HFCS really entered the American food-stream in the mid-70s and it was a gift to corn producers and the entire food industry at large. It was cheaper than cane and beet-based sucrose and could be easily added to a whole array of foods that were offered as “low-fat”. I was born in 1955 and conveniences foods were around my whole life in one form or another. My mother worked and we were latchkey kids. The ice cream truck came around every night. We drank plenty of Hawaiian Punch, and High-C. Taubes talks about this but I think this whole process started right after WW2 and the genetic predisposition to develop high insulin levels has been growing each generation. Not good.

I've had low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) since I was a kid. My brother, just the opposite. He is type 1 diabetic. Over the years, every time I'd check my bs with his glucometer it would show below 60 and he would be surprised. Sometimes it would even just say Lo when I was feeling bad. After being a firefighter in good shape for 25 years our department made us all do blood work due to toxic chemical exposures. All clear except my ldl couldn't be measured. My triglycerides were over 900. Hdl was good. Doc tried to put me on statins and said it was genetic, nothing could be done about it since I am not overweight. I got a RX for omega 3 acid ethyl ester and immediately stopped eating bread, fruits, and vegetables. I cut out as much sugar as possible. I eat a carnivore type diet consisting mostly of fatty fish, beef, and bacon. My triglycerides are now down under 150, ldl and hdl are good. I also take krill oil.. Everyone should try to adjust their diet before taking the prescriptions the docs are pushing. My doc said it was impossible to fix triglycerides with diet.
I just love how they explain everything to us so we can understand them , and they make it fun so we don't get bored or distracted ( which happens to me very often) plus they are having fun to which is amazing. So thank you! You're amazing guys!
Also, may I mention how mental health meds are DANGEROUS IMHO!! At least my experience has been this: Dx'd BIPOLAR at 21. My parents insisted. They insisted on heavy meds and hopsitalization for years. At 55 a Major shake-up came into my life and EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED. Stopped taking meds and resolved Emotional Dysregulation myself with the support and advice of You Tube presenters and accepted the FACT that my parents have serious mental health issues that led them to push me into being sick, and Boy- O Boy is life beautiful now!! If I can do it, anyone can.❤
Oh god I need to stop eating sugar, I'm under constant chronic stress and it's a huge coping mechanism for me. I really need to move off of it before I get screwed.
This! No one is saying how to overcome this addiction. They're just saying it's not good for your health, but it's like towing a heroin attic to stop injecting their heroin into their arm.
I am a big fan of this guy and bought his book. My only pause on what he says, is our need for fiber. I went fiber free 28 months ago. So far, I have only had continued improvements in digestion and metabolic health. I think the microbiome research is still quite fresh. I am still on the lookout for some sort of negative from starving my microbiome of ANY fiber. None yet.
All we can do is lead by example and maybe they will get tired of being “Sick, Fat & Nearly Dead”. Just like the government, medical and food industries wants them
Some people have to learn the hard way. It's not until they go blind, or have their feet amputated, or have a Stroke or Heart attack, only then they will listen.
My mother in law just found out she has a fatty liver and is pre diabetic. She is also overweight and has heart disease. I send her all these informative videos yet she still thinks Subway, cheesecake, and sweet n low are healthy choices. She also thinks that all forms of fat are bad. She may be watching these videos but she NOT listening.

Sure, there are sugars in some other foods, but…my four doctors(Primary, endo, optho and cardio) find no signs of retinopathy and the other ‘opathies’. Will stay tuned.
I am 46 years out old. I suffer from migraines and have dramatically reduced refined sugar and artificial sweeteners. I also ready made foods , caffeine and I dont drink alcohol . Haven't in 3 yrs. Well, since changing my consumption of these things (I'm 6 weeks in) Only sweetness fruit. Apple's, oranges and banana . I've lost WEIGHT , I dont have migraines. I don't over eat (I'm convinced sugar causes food cravings) and BEST OF ALL , many people are commenting on how I'm radiant and glowing !
Amazing disscussion. im looking for answers for so many health conditions for my family and your videos are really guiding my journey to get there. Thank you sooo much Mark and Mr Lustig.
This video has truly been life-changing for me! A year ago, I was carrying 135 lbs more, but learning about the science behind nutrition has completely transformed my health. Despite my progress, my doctor seemed indifferent. When I proudly mentioned my 100 lbs weight loss, she glanced at her computer, casually said 'Oh wow, you did. Congrats,' and then immediately pivoted to pushing statins on me. The numbers don’t lie though-A1C down from 8.5 to 6, triglycerides from 295 to 70, and cholesterol from 190 to 168. It’s frustrating when doctors overlook real progress. Thanks to this video, I’m living proof that taking control of your own health is possible!
Thank you Dr Lustig for your lecture style. I’ve watched many of your lectures. I love the non politically correct delivery. People need an intellectual kick to their face. Kids suffer from their parents stupid decisions.
Fantastic presentation! The only negative that stood out for me was when Lustig was talking about mono-crops, soil depletion, microbiome, etc.; I think he should have mentioned glyphosate.
Just discovered this video and found it so interesting and could listen to Dr Lustig all day. I have found that sugar affects me in ways like sleepiness, mood wise being grumpy, and just sluggish. I recently discovered carnivore and now my foid intake is about 80% protein and feel much better and have lost weight. But just learning about all the processes in the body and exactly how sugar affects these, really helps to confirm my findings on eating sugar and why it makes me feel like it does. I am going to watch alot more of your videos because I love to know how things work and the only way to fix problems is to know what has gone wrong in the first place.
I LOVE DR BOB SO MUCH!!! He speaks in bullet points; succinct; understandable; logical; simple; honest: direct. No lecturing; just a gift for getting his point across to us laypeople. Praise God for his expertise! 🙌🏼🤗
Refined sugar is bad, but whole starches are excellent. The winner of most marathons the Kenyans eat 80% starch. The longest lived the Okinawans ate 80% starch.
HBP here. Keto and carnivore have not lowered my blood pressure even a smidgen. I I am looking at hardening of the arteries as the possible cause and am asking for a CAC test. I am looking at cardiology as more of a plumbing issue than anything else. If arteries are clogged with calcium deposits and/or you have inflamed arteries, blood pressure will stay high. Kind of like when your drain is clogged, neither water nor fat will pass through. Think cardiology=plumbing.
take a coated baby aspirin a day , so a clot wont take you out ! ...i take one every 12 hrs ! 2 a day , because they have a 12 hr half life ! good luck
I don't get it. I thought starch vegetables turned into sugar. And teriyaki chicken is white rice and chicken breast sweetened with sugar and soy sauce. That is okay too???
Dr. Lustig has such an excellent ability to present material, so it makes complete sense. However, I wish Dr. Hyman would stop interrupting and inserting himself at every opportunity. It makes it difficult for me to concentrate on Dr. Lustig when there is a constant background noise (laughing, giggling, etc.) coming from Dr. Hyman. Nothing about this subject is remotely funny or deserving of so much laughing. I find it very condescending. I rarely watch Dr. Hyman for this reason. Dr. Lustig is worth suffering through Dr. Hyman though.
I think he interrupts because he wants everyone to see he has knowledge too. But I agree he interrupts Lustig constantly and It is very annoying! I have always had a hard time with Hyman in his videos because he talks non Stop! But I do think Hyman is extremely knowledgeable for sure. I never could watch him in the past ever. I found him very annoying. But after watching a few of his videos the guy is super smart!

Thats why I refuse to take insulin. I figured out myself the insulin was the bigger bad guy. I had symptoms after eating before any glucose elevations happened or were very high.

I once read that people who drink alcohol are actually craving sugar...They are sugar addicts. I have had a massive sugar addiction. I have reduced my sugar intake as for years I have suffered from massive sugar lows. I feel much better since reducing my sugar. I notice my ability to taste sugar in foods has increased massively too. I'm finding reducing rather than stopping completely is easier on my sick body...I have cancer...Tiredness prompted me to grab sugar for a quick fix. I agree with the mitochondria involvement, it lead to my tiredness. Cheers.💎💎💎
I am watching it the 3-rd time, fabulous work!!!! I would like a more detailed video on TGP and uric acid. As a practicing physician, I discovered some new insights blinking in my mind since I was a student…

Hey Mark ..... Please stop interrupting him with your yeah and aha let the author talk please. It disrupts the great message.....If you need to talk, coordinate it with him.
I wish pharma and medicine would use science to treat people, i am so tired of being the crazy person in the family the only one that understand that money rules everything
I just checked the label of my salad dressing, Ranch, and Vinaigrette Balsamic, and was surprised it contains sugar. No wonder I was having a hard time losing weight despite eating only vegetable salad. Be careful ,almost all the food in the grocery even what is supposed to be healthy one is laced with deadly sugar.
A tip: Don't eat ANYTHING in the middle aisles at the grocery store. Only consume perimeter shelved items: produce, meats, chicken, fish butters, cheeses.
Make your own, I use a good quality olive oil mixed with a little apple cider vinger with fresh squeezed lemon or limes, I really like it, make your own ketchup also, use organic tomato paste, recipes on you tube, stay away from ketchup in store, it is loaded with sugar, read labels on every thing, thats the only way, Dr Eric berg on utube, has great videos on diff ways to get healthy.
Doctors aren't our friends
PS: Update 11/20/23 - My most recent labs show my A1C is 5.7.

My coworkers tell me how I eat so much and lost all the weight. I did it in front of them over a year so they believe me. I learned how my body reacts to food

The problem wasn't sugar. It was junk food(suger COMBINED with fat, and artificial crap. And lack of nutrients)
(Lustig isn't sincere; he's chronically fat)
@@GaryHighFruit wow
I am lactose intolerant. I need lactase pills to digest any dairy products!
You lost me wt Keto cheesecake lol
@@joycebrewer4150there’s many other delicious keto recipes & desserts aside from cheesecake. Choczero is where I get most my pantry staples & treats, as well as many recipes!
A good key to not suffering "keto flu" is to take an electrolyte powder, or sea salt and lemon/lime in water.

If you believe this guy saying obese is healthy good luck with a sustained life 😂
When a Microbiologist talked about disease to me in the 1970s he said it will probably turn out that Sugar is a large culprit on our society!
Do you mean you stopped adding sugar to your food intake?
Ditto - weaning myself off sugar since 2016. Soooo much healthier physically and mentally! Never get sick - no flu, no colds, no covid.or flus.
I'm so addicted to sugar, snacks, I eat candy bars and cookies in the middle of the night. I am trying to stop, because I have lupus.
My understanding is that our liver purges at about 4am (if we are going down around 11 or midnight) so we get a prompt that something has changed dramatically in our body and needs attention, but the message we get is distorted by habitual response. I grabbed sugar. Now I believe protein is a better response. I STILL can't seem to sleep when hungry AT ALL....OH WELL...We do what we can.❤😂🎉

Omg!!!!!! mark was a bit annoying that I almost stopped watching!!!! I didn’t want to hear Mark at all…I know mark has alot of knowledge but I prefer to hear Dr Lustig
Yeah shut up Mark!
Dr. Hyman needs to let Dr. Lustig speak!
this guy is THE BOMB. Dr. Lustig explains the MECHANISM and not just tells us what's good and bad --- !!!! thanks so much for this interview, Mark.
Would be great

I learned much more today with your podcast. At 69 years old, I want to help myself to be as healthy as I can be. I don't want to live to be 100, but want to enjoy a few good years. I have managed a relatively good health by not taking prescription drugs. I'll follow and practice as much as I can your good advice> Thank you Doctor Hyman and Doctor Lustig.
Avoid sugar and lower carbs as much as possible. Ideally, less than 20 grams of carbs a day.
Limiting sugar and intermittent fasting changed my life.
In the 1960s my mom told me adult onset diabetes was caused by eating too much sugar. She was a PhD in biochemistry and my dad an internal medicine doctor.
Sounds like your mom was right on target.
And...?

Dr. Mark, please stop interrupting Dr. Robt.. You already know the answers. It is very hard to keep up with both of you guy's..
agree totally, bloger is a jerk
Dropped seven prescription drugs I was supposed to be on for life. By cutting out processed foods and processed sugar. Not to mention I lost forty pounds as well. I have kept it off for eleven years. This is not easy to do, although it is definitely possible for those who are willing to commit to the process. After you get on a healthy eating program, you must learn to retrain the way you think about sugar and processed foods. This was something I had to fight daily for about three years! Until I retrained myself mentally not to desire the the destructive foods in my mind. You can do this also, but it will require a fight.
I’m trying this just now but it’s so hard!! Everyday I think about the sugar foods.

I‘m so grateful for all this deep and comprehensive and utterly important information, I otherwise would never have gotten.
The US is the most contrasting country:
Putting out much of the most detrimental and much of the most brilliant stuff.
Just mentioning Berg, highlights how this is all a scam. Berg is a proven scammer & liar. (and exposed scientologist)

I can’t care too much if Dr Berg is a scientologist or not, It‘s his personal affair, and I haven’t heard anything criminal or highly questionable about that organisation.
Who knows?.
Thank you Doctors! You guys are changing the world with honestly taking care of human beings!

I could listen to Dr. Lustig all day. Incredibly revealing.
With outdated science
@@benjaminbritt7862 The core message is still absolutely valid.
Thank God for people like you guys!❤thank you!
For me OMAD LCHF (animal fats only, butter eggs dairy) Dr feng fasting
What ever you like or works for you.
Lustig is the man
Follow how he did his studies with kids.
We've found lots of good hacks to be healthy. Ignore guidelines. Oh, full fat milk only. Never skim. Posion right there.@@sharondennis7185
Sugar is everywhere. Even my Trader Joe’s peanut butter has powdered cane sugar! Sick of all the fat free labels. We need sugar free and sweetener free labels
Not true, shops tries to convince you so, cause they only sells that, cause the public loves it most, cause of the taste,
but there are Carnivore and such diets, even green leafy vegetables starchless are ok, wont mess anyone up

This was a fantastic interview with Dr. Lustig, the first time I have heard about him before, and I bought his book. It seems the more one learns, outside of the common narrative, the more one learns how money and lies have contributed to disease, drug pushing, and death. Thank you for this information.
Yes how do we seniors put ALL this together? It’s just mind blowing and so overwhelming
Keep It Simple seems to work for me.
@@eriwendikhaila
Read Gary Taubes.
Not good.

Your brain needs cholesterol. Statins cause dementia. Just stop the statins. He works for you. Take control of your own body.
Your on the Inuit diet, all fat :-)😊
Interesting story. Thanks for sharing. Best to you and your brother.

Great podcast. Thank you. Knowledge is powerful tool when fighting health issues.
It would be enormously beneficial for Americans if Dr. Robert Lustiq is on FDA advisory board.
If I can do it, anyone can.❤
My first time listening to mark hyman. I am not disappointed. Amazing interview.
Great interview Mark.
None yet.
This is fabulous!! Wish all my friends and family would listen… but they won’t.
I believe there are a whole lot of people that won't listen. sad.
Mine won't listen, either 🤷♀️
Thank you, Dr. Lustig! I just bought your book. I will read it as soon as it arrives.
Well done Gentlemen, was a good watch & listen.

Sugar. glucose, corn syrup and seed cooking oils are very inflammatory.
And salt causes fluid retention. Nuts are healthier for me than fat meats. Note I didn't say nut oils.
@@joycebrewer4150 table salt would do that and if you got bad kidney function not because of salt but because of carbohydrates and sugar.
It was nice to listen to this one again. Grateful it was recommended
Refined sugar is bad, but whole starches are excellent. The winner of most marathons the Kenyans eat 80% starch. The longest lived the Okinawans ate 80% starch.
They eat starchy tubers that they grow. Nothing from a box, bag, protein bar, or factory.
Have you tried fasting? Hope you get better any direction you may take

Few things affect more lives, and deaths, than diet in practice. This subject matter would be important to teach to our young globally.
I once read that people who drink alcohol are actually craving sugar...They are sugar addicts. I have had a massive sugar addiction. I have reduced my sugar intake as for years I have suffered from massive sugar lows. I feel much better since reducing my sugar.
Nothing from grocery store is healthy. Stop supporting them
A tip:
Don't eat ANYTHING in the middle aisles at the grocery store.
And soybean oil.
